  1. Sit back with some popcorn and watch. I like my name. My alts like their names (well, except for one, but he doesn't count because I can't remember his password anyway). I'm not changing a thing.
  2. Leave that one. It's lovely. But then get back on track..
  3. The moles have been busy on Pickle Island this week. Regions are being decorated faster than I can explore them, and they are all fascinating. Within the past day, @Daniel Voyager and @Alyona Su have both posted about the new Tusktooth region on the east coast, where there is a new mermaid grotto. It's not open officially yet, but I had to go see for myself. It's not hard to find. I started from the pinnacle rocks at the south end of the houseboat docks and swam east. No more than 100 m away, a gigantic rock mass dominates the seafloor. It's more than half a region long. It took me quite a long time to swim all around it, scouting out landmarks. I discovered that there are several openings between rocks, all quite easy to swim through and surprisingly well-lit, thanks to an abundance of Glowing Moleweed. Unlike the twisting maze grotto in Picards Wharf, this new one is a single gigantic room. Its floor is covered with a mat of sea grasses, and the luminous Moleweed is everywhere, in many colors. I spent more than a half hour poking around nooks and crannies. The walls have a soft blue glow in places, and I found masses of bright red, blue, and lavender crystals. ( Ooo! I hope they aren't radioactive! I didn't even think of that until now. No, it's probably phosphorescence. Yes, that's it. I'm sure the moles wouldn't build anything dangerous. ...... right? ) This would be a wonderful place for a large scale gathering of merfolk, or anyone else. Heck, this place is almost as big as Bellisseria Fairgrounds, and you know how many people can gather there. Look at all the room for dancing! And look what else! Treasure! I have no idea why moles would just leave it lying around like this.... ... except that they are lovely, trusting moles, and I suspect they have way more where this pile came from.
  4. How could you forget the L$1000/week stipend and the unlimited group memberships?
  5. OK, just a shot in the dark. Since you didn't say when it happened or how many times you tried at different parts of the day, I figured it was worth mentioning anyway. You might check out the other caveats there too, if you haven't already.
  6. Perhaps relevant, from the LSL wiki: Requests made at approx 0625 SLT may fail with a 503 status code, with "ERROR: The requested URL could not be retrieved", and "(111) Connection refused" in the body of the response. This has been confirmed as expected behaviour by Kelly, due to the nightly maint & log rotation. It does reliably impact object to object HTTP at that time, and quite probably may impact object to/from web around the same time. The interruption in service is fairly brief, and the precise timing may vary as LL adjust their nightly maint processes, or due to server load.
  7. Yup. Those are all things that a gamer might know, but are totally unfamiliar to most SL residents. It's fortunate that either style works here.
  8. It looks like there's a pattern developing here. Gamers are more comfortable with WASD. The rest of us like the arrows. That makes sense.
  9. So apropos today, thank you. I wasted almost two hours this morning trying to chase down what I thought was a race condition and instead turned out to be a disagreement between two scripts sending conflicting link messages. Some dumb mistakes can't be discovered until you finally get in world to see whether all the parts play nicely together. So much for clever scripting.
  10. Yes, that's often the case. The distinction between "in-world" and "off-world" is a bit fuzzy, though. When I am developing a script -- even one that will need to move a lot of things around -- I can still do much of the basic logical framework in Sublime Text before logging in to SL. Once I get to the point where I have to start testing things, or as I start to doubt whether I have coded something backwards, then I will need to find a quiet spot in world to try it out. I can generally lay out the logical structure of my scripts without needing visual confirmation. The place where it starts to get fuzzy is that I often do my "off-world" scripting while my av is parked somewhere in world, like Isaac Newton contemplating an apple tree. So, am I in world or not? Does being in SL help my scripting even if I am not using my script to do something in world? Do the little side experiments that I do to verify which way a door swings count, even if I'm not doing the experiments with the script I am developing?
  11. Kids tolerate a lot of things that adults have learned to think of as gross and icky. I remember liking to sleep in the barn on a hot summer night, at least partly because the bats would keep the mosquitoes under control. At some point I learned that bats are scary (or maybe I learned that breathing dry bat dung can do weird things to your lungs). I haven't slept in a barn for more than 50 years.
  12. Or just sit slightly to the right of center. It's all in what you're used to. Never having played games, I didn't come to SL even knowing that WASD was an option until I was well set in my current way of doing things. No magic, just habits.
  13. That's an interesting hypothesis. I suppose a left-handed mouse could make more sense to those of us who use the arrow keys, but that never occurred to me. I use my right hand for the mouse and my left hand on the arrow keys and for CTRL/Shift/Alt. I have no idea why. It just seems natural, which means that in my case your hypothesis doesn't work. I suppose if I played games, I might have brought different habits to SL, but I don't, so I didn't.
  14. This ^^ WASD is way too confusing and inconvenient.
  15. That's been true for a long time. The tech companies there and to the south seem to attract DDoS idiots. They can mess up SL unexpectedly several times a month. FWIW, I haven't seen any change in my own FPS or any increase in the number of difficult TPs recently. It sounds like random bits of bad luck are being scattered among SL residents.
  16. Well, that stinks. It's one more good reason to avoid facebook. Thanks.
  17. That would be truly annoying. Where do you find people who do that? I must lead a charmed life (or maybe I am already stunningly perfect?), but I've never had anyone feed me a line like that. Not that I would do anything but ignore that sort of twit and walk on by ...... 🙄
  18. Pile rocks along it, or maybe put bushes and your picnic table over it? Damn OSHA! Full speed ahead!
  19. Todos somos residentes de SL aquí, como usted. No somos Lindens, por lo que no podemos analizar su cuenta y, por cierto, no podemos hacer nada para ayudarlo a resolver su problema. Deberá enviar un caso de soporte para hacer su pregunta.
  20. Mostly, I write off line and test/update in world wherever it's convenient. I have my own region, but I'll script anywhere.
