  1. Thanks, Innula. I wasn't aware of SVC-6686. I'm glad it's been opened. As I've reread the OP's latest post, it does seem like the problem is more complex than simply rezzing, but it's still a permissions issue. I'm not sure that there's an easy solution, although Void's suggestion of deeding the cart to the larger group sounds like the best one so far.
  2. Many of your basic questions are answered in THIS KNOWLEDGE BASE ARTICLE, which you really ought to read first. Then, as Peewee suggests, post any additional questions in the land forums.
  3. You're going to have to work it out with them, I'm afraid. LL doesn't get involved in personal disputes between residents.
  4. I don't think that crossing multiple parcel boundaries should be a problem. The issue is giving the script permission to rez the attachments that each rider will need to wear. I think that if the OP either sets the scripted cart to the group (or deeds it .... I still can't remember which), the rezzer should work. After that, there's no more rezzing to deal with. The rider just attaches the things and rides off into the sunset.
  5. This is a permissions issue. If you have permission (through group roles) to rez objects on a parcel, then your script only shares those permissions when you're online. That is, the script can not take advantage of group role abilities unless you are logged in. So, if your cart has to rez anything and you are not present, the rezzer fails to fire. You ought to be able to beat the problem by setting the cart to share with the group, but you may have to actually deed it to the group. I can't recall which at the moment.
  6. Take a look at THIS SITE for the best current list of educational instiutions in SL. It is far from complete, unfortunately, because many institutions prefer to set up on closed sims. Also, that's a wiki, so it really depends on who has bothered to add or remove places from it. Still, it's what we have.
  7. Did you remember to click the button that says Sync MarketPlace with Magic Boxes? You have to do that first, or the inventory management routine in Marketplace doesn't know where your item is.
  8. The Building forum is meant as a place for builders to learn from each other. If you are looking for someone to build something for you, the best place to ask is in the Inworld Employment section of the Commerce Forums (http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Inworld-Employment/bd-p/InworldEmployment). If you are looking for something that already exists, try Marketplace or the Wanted section of the Commerce forums (http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Wanted/bd-p/Wanted). You will have much better luck. :smileyhappy:
  9. It may be your translator. If it is turned on, the translator will echo anything that you type and any incoming message. If it is not translating to another language, you will see two copies of every message.
  10. I agree. It's a very simple idea. As I understand it, the texture isn't actually uploaded at all, but simply loaded into your own local cache so that your graphics card can render it. When you're tweaking a clothing design or whatever, that's all that you need.
  11. Or use the Phoenix or Imprudence viewers, which allow you to upload a temporary test version of your textures for L$0. It's an ideal way to do trial adjustments of textures before paying for a permanent upload.
  12. Thank you, Jenni, for putting some detail on what I referred to as nonsense before I quit for the night yesterday. As you say, a LSL script is never transmitted to the client in any form, so there's nothing to capture. The only hole in LL's armor was plugged a long time ago, and I doubt that there's another. This feels like another Chicken Little worry, propogated by someone with a magic cure-all for sale. I'm not buying it.
  13. I'll pass you a 1024 x 512 texture in world that has 34 cells. The resolution on it is passable, but nothing to write home about.
  14. Nonsense. If a script is no mod, there's no way anyone is going to read it.
  15. Before you break up the group, be very sure to return any deeded objects that were originally yours to your own inventory.
  16. That's true, but it puts the burden on the buyer to do that filtering, and I suspect that most shoppers aren't that sophisticated or patient. My guess is that someone looking for a scripted lamp and finding that is displayed among a bunch of dresses and nightgowns is less likely to look for other household items scattered through the listing. As it is, LL controls the arrangement of things in my shop and the shopper has to click a filter to sort them. It would be nice if I could list similar items in the same part of my listing, the way I can in an in-world shop, that's all.
  17. Exactly. As a content creator in SL, I am self-employed but I could just as easily be a contract employee for some RL business who wants to set up in SL but not hire a full-time workforce. I get to choose who I work for, if anyone. The only real inequity is that if I wanted to do the same work in RL that I do in SL, I'd expect to get paid a LOT more. I'm doing well if I get paid $L3,000 for an hour's worth of scripting in SL, but a scripter in RL is going to be paid at least three times that. A RL business that hires scripters at typical SL rates is like Wal-Mart buying clothing manufactured in Bangladesh. I could get upset about that, but I'm basically here to enjoy myself, not to earn a living. Besides, as I said, I get to choose who I work for, if anyone. :smileyhappy:
  18. So long as you keep any $L earnings in world, they cannot be taxed. After all, L$ are not real money. They are tokens. You can decide to sell your L$ for "real" money. If you do, then they are taxable income, just the same as the income you'd get from selling anything else in RL.
  19. Unfortunately, BBC Radio only streams in RealAudio format. SL will only let you play streams that are encoded as mp2, mp3, or ogg. Until someone more knowledgeable explains how to convert from one stream format to another, I'm afraid BBC RAdio 3 isn't going to play in world. Sorry. :smileysad:
  20. Hehehe.... This feels like one of those old-time Mac vs. PC wars. I have my own preferences, but they're not relevant here. If you are buying a new computer, the best advice is always to consider all options, ask lots of questions, try out demos to get the feel of the machines, and make up your own mind. In this particular case, be sure that the salesperson you talk to understands that you want a gaming machine that meets or exceeds the recommended standards for each game/VW you will be running. If you can, get the salesperson to actually load up SL on a demo machine so you can see that it works. Good luck with it.
  21. Oooo! That's a great possibility, Dora. I bet that's it. Nice catch.
  22. I don't think it's the speed of the Internet service. I have a 3Mb cable connection myself and SL runs just fine. What I'm suggesting is that it's something right there between your computer and the ISP's main line -- your router, your modem, a cable, wifi interference ..... ?
  23. It's been a very long time, maybe 25 years, but we used to have that problem with old acoustic couplers when they were set in "duplex" mode. They'd echo in some settings. I haven't thought about this for ages, but if there's a similar thing going on here, perhaps the settings in your modem are to blame. (I know this is a weak answer, but it was the first thing that came to mind. It's worth checking anyway.)
  24. Poison Aura wrote: And why not everyone has the same problem if its the inet connection? I thought it was a matter of scripts, read some shoes had that "offsim effect". Because their Internet connection is OK. The servers upload the animation instructions to every av in the vicinity at the same time. Your Internet connection is wonky, so your client acts up, but their connections are fine, so they see you animated properly. It doesn't make any difference where the animation and its triggering script are -- a pose stand, your shoes, whatever. What counts is that the animation is triggered, and all client viewers need to know about it.
