  1. Solar Legion wrote: Nice comparison of apples to oranges. Computer data is computer data - it is not a medical instrument. Sorry - Amazon is to blame for any leaks that occur through the use of their SES service. That people do not accept this simple fact simply goes to show that everyone is quite ready and willing to take the easy way out. Wrong, Solar. If a hospital's use of Amazon SES resulted in a HIPAA violation because of a breach within Amazon, the violation would be registered against the hospital, not Amazon. The hospital might well go after Amazon to recover any damages that resulted, but the record would show the hospital as the violator. You seem to be confusing blame with responsibility. I hope you never find yourself in a courtroom, you may find that reality is very unpleasant.
  2. Solar's argument reminds me of a medical intstrumentation company that got cited by the FDA for failure to comply with good manufacturing practice requirements. The company argued that, as they'd subcontracted out the design of the instrument, the subcontractor was responsible. The FDA was so impressed by this explanation that they immediately forbid the sale of any of its products in the US. I had a friend who'd just gone to work for that company and who was shocked at the naiveté of the management team. It took 18 months for the company to rework all its internal processes to the satisfaction of the FDA, during which time they nearly went out of business. You'd think people would learn after an experience like this, but no. Fifteen years later, they got shut down in the US again, for more or less the same reasons. Solar's argument doesn't hold water, but there are plenty of people who won't believe that. It's okay though, people can't scream in protest over being held responsible when their lungs are filled with the water their argument didn't hold.

They cannot deny responsibility because they outsource certain things. If LL choses an untrustworthy company to outsource things, then I'll blame LL for that. Of course it is. That is how business works, or at least how it works in real life and your situation is strictly real life. If you are dealing with LL and only LL, then LL has full responsibility to you, regardless of where or how they subcontracted anything. Yep, just ask Kathleen Sebelius how "responsibility" works. ;-)

  5. Hiya Steph, What's the benchmark? Well, if you are in SL (or RL) for the same reason I am, to pursue happiness, then the test is easy. Ask yourself this question... "Do I enjoy _(insert endeavor here)_?" If the answer is yes, you're good to go. ;-)
  6. Authorizing the first launch of an unauthorized app does effectively whitelist it, and that is a per-program method. But there's no central place where you manage app authorization (although the "Privacy" tab of "Security and Privacy" does allow centralized control of app access to location data, contacts, calendars, reminders, etc). I'll argue that the Mac does app authorization the right way, bringing the authorization mechanism to you when you need it, rather than forcing you to hunt for a whitelist to add something. If there's a downside, it's that there is no collated whitelist to remind you what's on it.
  7. Hi Tresha, I just surfed a couple marketplace pages myself, to understand how it tracks your search progress. I thought it might be a cookie issue, but the page number is contained in the URL, so that's not it. Is this a new problem? Are you using IE? People have complained of issues using IE on SL websites. You might try Chrome or Firefox. Come back and edit your question (via "Options" over there on the right) to tell us more about the problem. Good luck!
  8. Fellixe wrote: Hi guys, Everytime I try to upload a profile picture (a screenshot of my character) I get an error message that reads: InvalidAccessKeyIdThe AWS Access Key Id you provided does not exist in our records. Does anyone know how to help me? Thanks! Hi Fellixe, I've not seen that error message before. It sounds like the SL webpage is having difficulty with Amazon Web Services, so maybe it's a temporary glitch in the profile webpage code. Heaven knows there are enough of those. If this is something that just started happening, it may resolve on its own. In case you are accessing your web profile using an external browser, people have mentioned having difficulty with SL's websites using Internet Explorer, so you might try Chrome or Firefox when accessing your web profile. If you'd like to continue troubleshooting with us, edit your question to provide additional information, using "Options" over there on the right. Good luck!
  9. Rolig, there is a tab in the "Security and Privacy" panel of "System Preferences" that allows the following selections... Allow apps downloaded from: Mac App Store Mac App Store and identified developers (default) Anywhere One could select "Anywhere" to enable execution of things like SL viewers, but that's not advised, as it's then too easy to accidentally launch potential malware. A Mac's default behavior on double clicking an unknown app is to throw up a warning dialog saying that the app will not be allowed to run. By right clicking that app and selecting "Open" rather than double clicking, you get a dialog requesting an admin username and password to mark the application as runnable. Once that's done, the app forever after launches without issue. A subsequent downloaded update will once again require authorization to run. So, when a Mac person says their Mac won't let them run a program they're certain they wish to run, suggest they right click it, select "Open", then provide the credentials to launch it and mark it as safe to run.
  10. Hi Alezz, I think we'll need more information to determine what your problem is. I have a one year old iMac and all the popular viewers seem to run okay with it. Firestorm locks up sometimes and Flash video doesn't play in any viewer, but otherwise I'm not having any more trouble than normal. Come back to edit your question (via "Options" over on the right) and give us more information. Good luck!
  11. Hi Tatiana, Two private regious would only be visible to each other if they shared a border. This means that even if they touched at a corner (were located on a diagonal) they'd not see each other, unless there was a third sim sharing borders with both. (And it's possible that all the regious must belong to the same estate, I don't recall).
  12. Hi Animorf, The last word that came from Rodvik Linden was that, after "careful" review of the issue, they were going to do... absolutely nothing.
  13. Hi Sandra, Flash no longer works in SLV for Mac OS, but Adobe is apparently addressing the issue. MacOS blocks older versions of Flash because of numerous malware vulnerabilities. You may be able to track progress on a fix here... https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3597462

I'm not switching over until next Monday morning, so I can have 25 hours of it!!! Until then, this is this Monday, let's get going, Kids!!!...
  15. Hi Jerilynn, "Delete" is a two step process, did you check your Trash? Good luck!
  16. Hi Griffin, We are not Lindens, we are residents just like you. And so we cannot fix this double purchase. I suggest you contact the creators from whom you purchased the doubled items, explain the error. Most creators are reasonable people and will work with you to achieve an equitable resolution if you are patient and explain just what happened. Good luck!
  17. Good morning, Hippie. I think Winter is coming, I woke up to find my lawn looking like this... Hi, Kids!!!
  18. I'm on a 2012 iMac 27 (quad Core i7, nVidia GTX 680MX). SLV, Firestorm and Singularity all work.
  19. Hi Whiwendy, It sounds like someone gave you a griefing object. Find it in your inventory and delete it. The box you rezzed on land will probably be returned to your inventory, either by the landowner who threatened to complain (probably via Abuse Report) or by parcel auto-return. So your inventory may contain multiple copies of the offending box. Delete them all! Nobody here can look at this box, or your inventory. We're residents, just like you. Lindens do not visit the forums. And do be careful about accepting "gifts" from people you do not know and trust. Good luck!

  22. .scr isn't executable on a Mac, and the default setting for execution of downloaded code on a Mac is to throw a warning dialog and require user (name/password) authentication to enable execution. So this type of malware is not a threat to Mac users. But, if the following example works, this is a way to slip banned words into the forum... ‮!ekyD naV kciD yas nac ew won ,ooh ooW
  23. nahladahl wrote: So I recently download firestorm viewer. When I go into fullscreen I can't view my other windows such as my desktop and browsers. I also have a macbook. Is there any way to fix this? I don't recommmend using Firestorm in full screen mode on a Mac for the reasons you just cited. That mode doesn't seem to honor the screen's native resolution and (for me at least) runs at much lower resolution. To disable it, go to Avatar->Preferences->Graphics and uncheck "Fullscreen Mode", then restart the viewer.
  24. Most of the jobs in SL are probably social in nature, greeters, DJs, dancers, etc. You can get some idea of what people are looking for here... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Inworld-Employment/bd-p/InworldEmployment On the creation side, if you have 3D building skills, you'd probably want to go into business for yourself, selling your products in-world or in the marketplace... https://marketplace.secondlife.com Second Life has a fairly steep learning curve for creation, and the pay is a fraction of what the same skills might attain in real-life, but if you're going to be spending time in Second Life anyway, go for it. The in-world employment forum will sometimes produce opportunities for people with a subset of creation skills, like scripting or texture design, but most creators seem to work on their own, purchasing textures or shapes from the marketplace if they don't create their own from scratch. Good luck!
