  2. Does "semi exclusive" mean 10 templates will be sold, or 10,000? If you presume that you will find yourself in competition with the other purchasers of the templates, that matters. If the templates are effectively full perm, can you be certain the exclusivity won't be undone by another purchaser.
¡Buena suerte!
  4. Hi beautyqueen101omg, It appears you have yet to log into Second Life (SL) for the very first time, as you don't have a profile. Unless you purchase Linden Dollars, or pay for a premium membership, you will not own any money when you start here. But you don't need money to enjoy the wonderful world of Second Life. There are endless freebies available in shops you can visit in-world, or in the SL Marketplace. You can select from the basic starter avatars and then go wild changing skins, shapes, clothing, accessories, and eventually... friends! So, download a viewer, read the quickstart guide and user's manual (or at least be ready to refer to them), then log-in and start exploring! Welcome aboard!
  5. Yay! I'm glad I could be your Easter Bunny, Guinevere!
  6. That thing you found was a "coalesced object". That was probably created when you abandoned your home and everything in it was returned in one lump. When this happens, the whole lump is named after one of the objects inside it. And as you saw, the icon for a coalesced object is a li'l pile of object icons. I'm glad you found your bed!
  7. Hi FreakyGin, It's unusual to lose only one item. Sometimes your local inventory list gets corrupted and you have to force the viewer to build a new copy with information from the SL servers. Here's a web page all about inventory loss... http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_loss Try the first of the Common Solutions, paying special attention to point 6, which tells you to "wait in place 5 minutes". Log-in to a quiet sim like Smith or Pooley and wait for inventory to rebuild. Do NOT teleport anywhere until the inventory item count stops growing. Good luck!
  8. I'm still waiting for the opportunity to tell someone... "Your red scarf matches your eyes."

  10. Hi Guinevere, This happens sometimes. Try typing Esc or Esc+Shift a few times, or type Ctrl+9. If that doesn't work, try: Advanced->Show Debug Settings, type CameraOffsetRearview, click Reset to Default Advanced->Show Debug Settings, type FocusOffsetRearview, click Reset to default If the Advanced Menu isn't showing, type Ctrl+Alt+D. Good luck!
  11. Hi Blake, It's normal for left click-drag to move the camera angle, what were you expecting that to do? Come back to edit your question via Options over there on the right.
  12. Teachergirl, you asked for help on Tuesday here, and you got excellent advice. Now you have returned to ask why customer service has not answered you. The forums are not LL customer service. This is a resident-to-resident exchange and we did respond. Once again, the solution to your problem was offered to you here... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Avatar/What-do-I-do-when-my-avatar-seems-to-have-been-caught-in-youor/qaq-p/2654906
  13. Hi Missbehaves, Scripts can't see what's typed in IM, so there are no direct translators available for IM chat. We're not supposed to give recommendations here (and I really haven't got one anyway) but you can search the marketplace for "translator" and you'll find a thing that claims to have an imperfect work-around. Good luck!
  14. Hi Louloupot, The currently advertised version of the SL Viewer (the one linked to at the bottom of this page) contains a bug that throws up a crash logger window when you quit (only under MS Windows). Quite a few people have been observing this. Here's a version of the viewer that was released yesterday, and addresses it... http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/3.7.6.289164 If your previous installation failed, you may have corrupt files laying around. If this latest release gives you other problems, you may need to do a "clean install". Here's how to do that... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 If you want to preserve chat and IM logs, take care to read the first note on that page, which will direct you to this... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Text-chat-and-instant-messages/ta-p/700155#Section_.3 Good luck!
  15. Hi Hippie. I got the jump on the Easter Bunny this year. The rest of you are on your own... Happy weekend, Kids!!!
  16. Drongle McMahon wrote: "I think this has bearing on your question..." Yes it does. However, it looks like that was settled out of court while under appeal, which I think means the question was not legally determined there. Also, I don't think that was a question of activity being outside the scope of the safe harbor provision, was it? The relevant part of the DMCA* is (sorry, I don't know the official way of formatting legal citations) Title II, Section 512, ©(1)(B), which requires that the service provider ".. does not receive a financial benefit directly attributable to the infringing activity, in a case in which the service provider has the right and ability to control such activity;" I suppose we can't even consider that until we know exactly what LL may be planning tom do with their new rights. The "directly attributable" may be the significant point. If it's going to be just taking a commision, then In guess it stays within the safe harbor, since that's already the situation with the marketplace. I suppose that must be considered indirect? This does seem the most likely, all things considered. * http://www.copyright.gov/legislation/pl105-304.pdf Although the case was not taken to full resolution in the courts, the preponderance of the decisions in the case favored YouTube. I think it would be the same for LL. So long as any benefit that accrues to LL for the use of infringing material comes as the result of a business model constructed to benefit from legal content, and LL cannot be shown to have direct evidence of infringement (a DMCA takedown notice might be the only good proof), the "directly attributable" requirement will not be met. It's not uncommon for deep pocket defendants to settle out of court by offering a nominal payment that scales from their predicted cost of continuing. You incur substantial legal fees, win or lose. That Google paid nothing suggests (if only weakly) that VIacom didn't think they had a chance of prevailing and Google didn't feel particularly threatened. So, we don't have certainty, but we've got a hunch. I could argue that it would be easier for YouTube to recognize pirated content than for LL. Popular music and movies are just that, popular. Much of the pirated content in YouTube is not heavily morphed, and is therefore easily identified. I can quickly find stuff on YouTube that's pirated, so can you. Yet I am not particularly knowlegable of the entertainment industry. Now, if I skim through the SL marketplace, I might spot a Mickey Mouse avatar or Barbie car and wonder, but for the most part I'm oblivious to whether a thing is an illegal copy. A similar argument could be made that the barrier to entry for pirates is lower for YouTube than for SL. I think the French have levied "taxes" on YouTube like services and iPod like devices to account for the piracy that naturally flows from their use. Those taxes fund support for the arts, and were the result of lobbying by influential groups. There's no such political dynamic around SL, which is largely unknown to the world.
  17. Hi Psychic, I'm unsure whether you just want help texturing a prim which already acts like a gift voucher (meaning it contains a script with that functionality) or whether you want to create a gift voucher from scratch. If you've purchased a gift voucher system (it sounds like you have not), there should be instructions for modifying it to suit your particular needs. If that boils down to simply adding your custom graphic to the viewing surface of the gift card, that should work like texturing any other prim surface. You create your graphic, save it as .jpg, pay your L$10 to upload it, select the prim for editing and then drag the texture from your inventory window to the card's display face. If you did as Rolig theorizes, rather than dragging your image to the card's face, you may have dragged it to the contents folder of your prim. But I think you may not have done that, and I'm baffled at how the result of applying the texture would produce a blank grey sheet. If you double click the texture in inventory, does it look okay? Did you really upload it, or did you use the "Local Texture" feature of the Texture window? And finally, if you did not purchase some kind of gift voucher system, you may be underestimating the scope of this undertaking. However, I think it's more likely I simply don't understand exactly what you are trying to do! Come back to your question and edit it (via "Options" over there on the right) to tell us more. Good luck!

Drongle McMahon wrote: The ISSUE for me is that even though they have made this rule and many of us are complying -- there are just as many blatantly stolen items up on the Marketplace and fraud is rampant. Indeed. Does the ToS really absolve them of all liability if they step beyond the scope of protection by DMCA? Would it really be plausible for them to claim ignorance of the extent of violations? I think this has bearing on your question, Drongle... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viacom_International_Inc._v._YouTube,_Inc.
  19. Hi Xendoras, Others have been complaining of the same problem. You'll learn (not much) more here... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/Crash-Logger-on-Close/m-p/2604154/highlight/true#M23474 Good luck!
  20. Syn's right about the wild guesses, Fantasy. Here's mine. Both walking through doors and camming can introduce lots of new objects into your view. This can simultaneously cause an increase in texture downloads and an increase in texture memory swapping and view processing in your graphics card. If your PC/laptop has accumulated a lot of dust, or if you have recently increased your graphics setting (particularly enabling shadows or DOF), your computer's operating system may be throttling the graphics processor (GPU) to keep it running at safe temperatures. This can cause SL to crash, as it's not terribly tolerant of GPU throttling. If that's the case, it's time to clean out the dust bunnies or dial back your graphics settings.

  22. Hi Jarah, Your question confuses me a bit. I've never heard of voice mailbox capability in SL. I did a bit of Googling and see some mention of it many years ago, but nothing since. Would you come back to your question and edit it (via "Options" over there on the right) to explain just what you did to "call" someone who didn't answer? Was this an IM to an offline resident in which you attempted to use voice?

Actually i would be hapy to see a list of licenses in the TOS that would be compliant with the TOS. I would also be happy to get a list of licenses which are not compliant with the TOS. And for all not mentioned licenses i would be happy to clarify that with our lawyer if necessary. My personal point of interest is if the "CC BGY4.0" is allowed, or will be allowed with an updated version of the TOS. You can upload whatever you want.. The question is, do you have the ability to grant those same premissions to LL? ETA: from what i can find a CC BGY 4.0 license states.. You are free to: Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially. The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms.I don't see where that would be an issue with giving LL free license. Also from CC BY 4.0... ___________________ Under the following terms: Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. ___________________ Many years ago, I investigated using open source software in a product where the code would be deeply embedded. The license terms on the code were pretty much CC BY. I showed the CC license to the company's IP counsel, and inquired how we would show attribution. I was advised NOT to use any such software, as the only ways of showing the required attribution would effectively "deface or defame" the product. By "deface", he meant that we'd have to place attribution somewhere on the product, thereby spoiling the design with superfluous messaging. By "defame" he meant that displaying attribution for something which comprises perhaps 0.001% of the product's value effectively devalues the remaining 99.999% of the product. It would be as if you purchased a shiny new iPhone, and on the back saw "Designed by Apple in California", followed by "And Madelaine McMasters in Wisconsin" because they used my CC BY 4.0 algorithm for abs(x). I then asked if it would be sufficient to print attribution at the back of the owner's manual. Counsel thought that addressed "deface" but not "defame" and recommended steering clear of anything burdened by a license requiring attribution. It did not seem there was any reasonable way to show it. Shortly after getting that annoying opinion, I countered with the observation that only the source code was encumbered by the license, and that I could get around it by compiling the source down to machine code, and ship only the compiled code in the product, which is exactly what happens in most computer systems. Counsel responded with what roughly translates to "Your solution is probably legal and certainly undetectable." Much of the content being brought into SL can't wiggle through the compilation/obfuscation escape hatch. The final form of the content is recognizable, and there is no reasonable way to give attribution. Nobody's going to purchase clothing with attribution and change logs imprinted on the seams. You're not going to provide attribution on your ad copy without potentially defaming your own effort. In the end, I followed counsel's advice and chose not to use content encumbered by licenses that required attribution of any kind. The SL TOS is a problem to be sure, but in this context I wonder if CC BY isn't a bigger problem.
