  1. My impression, the "G" still applies... as to why there are ratings on profiles... there was plenty of speculation, but it appears to be just a side effect of automated ratings or all search results.
  2. oddness, I noticed it gone for a while, but it looks like FF 7.01 automatically disabled grease monkey along the way, and I didn't notice it until I just updated to 8... where it's definitely working. I do note that the install button from userscripts isn't installing to greasemonkey anymore but rather just popping up the code =/
  3. posts.... at least I'm pretty sure.... new post count goes up, yet entire forum is read, most recent thread title shows at the top level, but most recent post disappeared until I posted something else.... could be they removed the spammer from here, but as far as I've seen the spammer never finds this forum, so it makes me curious which 3 posts went missing.
  4. deleted from this forum... interesting.
  5. needs a script update... that's Cerise's baby so perhaps a PM or IM inworld
  6. good points, interestingly enough they seem to be able to block PM's between adult and teen accounts, yet can't define forums on the same basis? I suspect the problem there is less technical, and more esoteric.
  7. Derek, we've disagreed in the past, but THAT post.. two thumbs up and a tribute lighter... @Rudi: I had such high hopes seeing your first (readable) post... it was intelligent and literate (if a bit dry)... I'd probably read more of what you had to say instead of skipping over it if you kept that format... just saying.
  8. that would be because they are edited (check the time stamp) to remove all content.
  9. I'll comment on an aspect of that, and that's the idea of inline ratings.... I don't see them working here for two reasons... we don't have a community or content (on the forums) the size or scale of yuotube. We also have a a ignup method with no confirmation or control which leads to easy abuse when one person decides to register 50 alt accounts (or just get all their friends in) to down rate anyone they don't like. the same thing actually happens on youtube, the difference being that the content isn't affected by that, and the size of the service tends to hide peoples personal vendettas a simple ignore/block feature would probably go a lot farther to quelling personal disputes IMO obviously it goes without saying that I disagree with certain other points, but I'll touch on one other. Guidelines may not be as clear as we think... if they post tomorrow that the guidelines have changes, and those changes say that all those things are ok (which they have every right to do, it being their service) then they weren't really clear were they... I would hope that wouldn't be the case, but it is a lingering possibility. I do feel sorry for Viale, that was a mean stunt to pull. although as far as I can tell he wasn't the "special guest" we were supposed to expect. PS my impression was that the adult forum did require you to be logged in to see it, I'll verify that shortly. ETA: nope, publicly viewable... that's half a problem right there.
  10. sheesh a comp store that doesn't know about multi-cpu motherboards? I wouldn't shop there (they've been around for the home market since, what... 04? almost got a dual jobbie in o8 but most of the motherboards for them were crap or overpriced then. although I wasn't aware they mad more than dual models available for the home market (commercial harket had at least 4's when I last went shopping.
  11. window shake (sometimes also referred to a s jiggling the window) is what some applications do to get your attention... the window (or likely in this case hud) would move in randoms directions from it's center for several step then return to normal. and all it is a movement script that saves the tart location and and adds a small position move to that several times (without overwriting the original position) then reset the orignial position...makes it look like it's shaking.

JeanneAnne wrote: [...] Very little of what he did was innovative and what little of it may have been, is long since outdated.[...] really? so you know of some other places with large continuous virtual landscapes that allow it's users to build, collaborate, buy sell, and trade in a realtime environment, with fully customizable... everything, with full retention of their own IP rights and not based on SL's technology? seems to me you're failing to see the forest with all those trees in the way. regardless this is very far off the topic, but I'd be happy to discuss it elsewhere, assuming you aren't still leaving for greener pastures.
  13. wasn't this article hashed already? granted it started with the silly proposition that said project would "replace" SL.... and I suppose it has, at least for Mr Rosendale, as his current venture... but truth be told it was replaced in that sense long ago with the first CEO changeup. That's not actually anything new in the business world, and there are lots of creative minds following the path of "build it, and if they come great, I'll let someone else manage it while I build the next thing"
  14. Tari Landar wrote: [...] So a script that can make a prim jiggle like jello does, is what I thought of. the reason I thought of it was because of the goo comment. I've seen scripts that make prims move, but I've never seen a prim move with a "natural jiggle", if that makes any sense.[...] flexi with tight springiness and high reactivity to wind? or on demand via script manipulation of gravity? neither should affect a resize script, so I'm curious what's going on there.... now a window shake (like for huds) would probably mess with 50-75% of the current resize scripts (most based on free versions) and bork the object if they were both engaged at once... but shouldn't reset the objects size.
  15. if you are not advertising SL specifically, then there should be no problem per the content licensing in ToS which clearly states your own IP rights to content you create. on a personal note however, the content of those videos better be pretty amazing to be worth sitting through ads, otherwise you may be driving more potential viewers away than you are profiting from, with the dearth of free videos available.
  16. while it's a wonderful thought (that could easily be applied to other content types), there is a problem or two with it... the major one being that LSL is platform specific... there is no place else to hone ones skills in this particular language. the second big one to me is the various idiosyncrasies of scripting for LSL... of which even we who can program are at a loss to fully document at times. another would be some of the design elements that make it nearly impossible to write both efficiently AND in compliance with standard practices... the very simplistic compiler is a part of that. and finally of course there is the fact that it's a scripting language and not a full fledged programming language... no matter how efficiently we write, it's still at very best a small subset of commands with much less flexibility than a normal programming environment. Given all these facts, and that people can and will try anyway, my personal take has always been to try to improve the quality of what goes out.... it's not ideal, but at least it's a stride towards better.
  17. Venus Petrov wrote: Although the behavior exhibited by some posters in the Vampire subforum (spamming) would still be considered spam if it were done within the RP subforum. As the Fashion initiative was presented as a series of blogs by 'experts' over the course of several days, why that mode of 'focus' on the vampire subculture in SL was not used...well.../me scratches her head indeed true on the first part, the inconsistency seems to be flowing in both directions there... as to the second part... I can tell you exactly why, although it only makes sense in a marketers mind... The whole vamp thing DID start on the blogs, but like much marketing it was forced, and didn't get much participation (nor does the format allow for it really).... seeking wider coverage and hoping for a more viral reaction to generate interest, they moved it into the forums.... and if you're a marketer, that makes sense. the problem is marketers don't have any sway over what the public picks up as viral, although they can tailor it by being funny and unique to get a better chance. Unfortunately they violated two cardinal rules for something to go viral... uniqueness (it'd already been featured on the blogs) and community supported (officially backing up a campaign that's intend to be viral screams marketing manipulation, and people get quickly turned off to it)
  18. Tristizia Demonista wrote: Which of course raises the question, why use an 12hr timeformat at all. There are 24 Hours after all :smileywink: ps.: As a Continental-European i stick to our use of DD-MM-YYYY because analog/mechanical clocks (which are still common) use 12 hour faces? their continuing popularity is probably twofold... they more clearly separate the natural morning and evening schedules, and visually, 24hr mechanical faces are a bit crowded. PS I forgive you since you use a 4 place year which makes the logical order clear, even if you have to reverse standards to tell me what time it is =D
  19. PS to my previous post: while both my machines were near SOTA when built, like most people I can't afford the kind of 2yr suggested cycles that the industry seems to expect... so rather than falling back to something more like a mediocre 4yr lifecycle, I put money aside the entire time and build as close to top of the line as I can every 8 years, and try to upgrade minor components inbetween. cost wise this works out about the same as getting a good but not great pc every 4 years, and cheaper than getting an average pc every two. It gives me up to average performance before I upgrade and a fairly long great to good arc of performance, while not absolutely killing my budget... of course the first time is the hardest, and I had the benefit of other peoples computers while I built up to it.
  20. oddly enough, they are all theoretically possible, but in application they are so far ridiculous to implement =/ @six: I'm aware of the body part deffinitions, but those don't take scripting (just wearables with parameters set), so I still remain confused...
  21. I seem to remember this bug showing up before, having something to do with camera focus or antialiasing...
  22. I just noticed that the quote on the ISO lists it's founding date in text format order =D
  23. nor I, which is why I relate it as a genre.... one in which I myself have taken part in. I've also taken part in the Gothic, Robotics, Zombie, Pirate, Furry, Fantasy (mythological, magical, and supernatural), Steam, Victorian, Science (both super and mad) and Kids RP communities too.... I even like to mix them up. I have one av that fits SIX of those! and those are just the generic categories... do I think we need separate subforums for each? probably not, the RP overall community has a nice active space and is still only one subculture within SL..... I think trying to cater to them all is probably a disaster in the making as specific fandoms must be left out because of their basis in commercial works (some of which are more permissive than others), and there may not be enough general interest to talk about some of them rather than to just log in and engage. (although it would be nice to see all of those featured, just not in the way of specific sub forums) ETA: rereading that it sounds like I'm arguing a point, when it's supposed to sound like a wholehearted agreement with my own personal spin... apologies.. I've become to used to the compare and contrast writing model and need to work on my style a bit more.
  24. I would like to add (as an american) that I use two date orders depending on format. pure numeric formats I use Y#-M#-D#, or Y###-M#-D#, as both these formats fit the numerical print order (smallest unit to the right) however if the format is conversational, or letter writing, I tend to use Mmm D#, Y###: which translates to the casually spoken "November the 11th, 2011" where the year is often omitted, and sometimes the month if it can be reasonably assumed. however when using this format, it is never acceptable to use a number for the month, although abreviations are allowable, and the whole thing can be prefixed with the weekday if it matters. following those rules, there is never any confusion as to a dates meaning, since the numerical format follows numerical rules, and the text format follows grammatical rules. please feel free to smack anyone that uses text order, in a numerical format, or numerical order in a text format, as they've violated expectation and introduced ambiguity. similarly people using D#-M#-Y# formats may think they're cleverly offering an intermediate that's passably acceptable to both formats, automatically violate expectation as to time within the day, and in most languages, mathematical ordering as well. and don't even get me started on the people that use 12hr time keeping but can't be bothered to append whether it's am or pm
