  1. I have a laptop about that spec but with an older graphics card. I run it with advanced lighting and it's a bit laggy but ok. I should think with the GTX 860 it should be fine. I am running Windows 7 on it and find that it helps to have a 4GB memory card and use it for ready boost, helps it run a bit faster as it only has 4gb internal memory.
  2. Good start Jackson, You could try this alternative to a 3D mouse Virtual Flycam. It turns the numeric keypad on your keyboard into a 3D mouse. In beta just now.
  3. I think Virtual Machines don't use your graphics card, they use some kind of VGA emulation. Dual booting is the way to go. I haven't tried it with W10 yet but I have done it with every other version of windows. Here is a how to: http://www.howtogeek.com/197647/how-to-dual-boot-windows-10-with-windows-7-or-8/
  4. This is a graphics card / driver issue. Try changing your desktop appearance from "aero" to a basic look. If that doesn't work or you have other problems with graphics try this: wiki.phoenixviewer.com/ati

  6. That sounds like a cue for some tips, so here goes: 1. Try tapping instead f holding down the keys, You can get a more predictable control of the camera this way. Notice on the Virtual Flycam (VF) interface how much the value changes for the axis. One tap may not change it at all (depending on your settings), in which case try a short series of fast taps. 2. Fine tune your settings. This only takes a couple of minutes. Open the Joystick configuration window and them put the VF interface next to it so you can watch what it does. Starting with the X axis, which is Left / Right use the 4 and 6 keys to take it to the extremes -10 to +10 in VF. Adjust the settings in the Flycam column on the configuration window until the camera movement feels natural, not to fast and not to slow. Type in the new value and press enter and the change will take effect. You may find the best settings for you change from viewer to viewer. You may be surprised ho much the setting for one axis needs to be different to another to get the camera movement just the way you like it. Again try holding down the key vs tapping. Quickly set the rest of the axis in the same way. Remember that you won't be able to roll if you have Auto Level selected. 3. Use the reset buttons: Imagine that you are steering your way down a path. Ahead of you is a tree, you have to do a hard right to miss it. You jam your finger down on the 6 key. But now you are speeding off to the right and you are going to go off the path and into someone's house. What to do?!?!?!? You can jam your finger down on the 4 key to go left but if you tap Alt + 4 you will jump back to middle 0 instantly. Continue to press 4 to turn to the left. Virtual Flycam has built in smoothing so the camera won't jump but it will turn much more quickly. If you are going in several directions at once it can get complex and you may become confused about which key to press to go in the direction you want. Tap Alt + 5 to reset all and then one other key. The reset will be smooth so you can go from several directions at once to one direction maintaining fluid motion.
  7. That's interesting Natates. Do the images still get loaded if you have the beastly critters (chat icons) turned off? As you can in the better viewers.
  8. Mesh clothing often comes with alpha layers that make parts of the body underneath transparent. This is because the clothing doesn't fit the body exactly, or it doesn't fit when the body moves. To avoid bits sticking out there is an anpha layer. If you are in a laggy area you may see the invisible bit before the clothing becomes visible. Or it could be because you have a slow internet connection or a graphics card that isn't fast enough. Or you might be using an old viewer that doesn't know how to rez mesh.
  9. You can always just make a new account. You can still keep the old one and it gives you a chance to have a clean start and buy lots of yummy new stuff.
  10. You say that you are going from sim to sim. That means that it can't be comming from something that is in a sim, the same thing happens between any two sims on the grid. That suggests that you are carring it with you which means that it must be attached to you. Right click on yourself and select Take Off and then Detach All and see if that removes the sound. If it does then take care when you are re-attaching stuff that you don't put it back on again.
  11. I am sure there are others that can give you a much better answer to this but my suggestion is build some very simple structures, just a few prims and texture them and then download them and upload to the beta grid (free). Try different viewers, I don't think there is a standard method for downloading as mesh. Make very sure that every texture you use was uploaded by you, otherwise it won't download. Find out/experiment with the Physics Shape Type setting in the edit box on the Features tab.
  12. Another possibility is to look in your Calling Cards folder. They are by user name and not display name but you just click on them and it opens up their profile so that you can see their display name and picture.
  13. I have uploaded a new version to handle the couple of reports I have had of Virtual Flycam not starting. So if you downloaded the earlier version and this was a problem please try again with the new version and let me know if this solves the problem. This is the download page.
  14. I don't know for sure. My thought is that a 750 graphics card would be good for a HD monitor in SL but I'm not sure if it has the oomph for UHD. I would suggest you look for gaming reviews with this machine.
  15. You can get object scanners but I don't think that they will tell you which script is causing the problem. If I was you I would start up a chat session with support, tell them about the free time and script time and that you have looked but cant find the script that is causing the problem and ask them if they can look into it from their side. You pay top dollar for the land and are entitled to support.
  16. That is a very high script time for a residential parcel. That is the sort of level I would expect in one of the London sims or somewhere like that where there are loads of scripted things going on all around you. It may not be the only thing that is causing lag but it is definitely worth looking into. You can use the About Land/Script Info to help track down scripted objects. On the parcel I am on now there are 230 scripted objects and the script time is about 7ms spare time is 13ms.
  17. You are probably right that it isn't your hardware. Try a clean install: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231
  18. I know it is client side but think that the problem is probably related to your other post: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Server/Zero-spare-time-68-scripts-Run-Frequent-texture-blurring/td-p/2915216 Try following my article Chasing the Lag (link below).
  19. You mention that Spare Time is around 0 but don't mention (or I may have missed it) what the other stats in that section are. Something is hogging that precious 22ms the sim has to create its frames which would be a clue to your server side lag.
  20. Changing clothes is bewildering but you get the hang of it after a while. Essentially it is a matter of taking things off and putting things on. There may be some differences depending on the viewer that you are using to access SL but for the most part it is the same on a PC or tablet. Right click on yourself and select Take Off, then select Clothes and then All Clothes. Right click on yourself and select Tack Off again, then select Detach All. Now you shouldn't be wearing anything and may look a bit weird, but don't worry about that for the moment. If it looks like you still have some clothes on don't worry about it for the moment. Next step is to put on that new Avatar you bought. This will probably consist of several parts which may be in a box. If they have encouraging names like shape, skin, hair, jacket and so on try double clicking on them and see if you start wearing them. If you have just one thing it is probably a have to open it up and load the contents into your inventory first. To do this drag the thing that you have to a ground right click and select Open and then click Copy to inventory.
