  1. That sounds a bit more like the real world. You could investigate if there is a way to change the balance between upload and download so that the download is faster, that would probably be a setting in your account from your provider (if it exists). The performance you are getting does make sense. Second Life is different from most other Internet games because you don't download the game before you start playing it as is the case with many games. Firestorm is probably the not the best viewer for you, it is the heavy weight, try Alchemy Viewer.
  2. (1mbps/sec)? one mega bit per second? According to the blurb on their web site (http://fios.verizon.com/fios-plans.html) Verizon Fios start at 25 mbps so if you are doing a speed test and getting a result of 1 mbps that must be worth troubleshooting.
  3. Linden Lab don't come here so you won't get an answer from them. You can also pay by Skrill these days: https://www.skrill.com/en/personal/
  4. Log into the web site and check your balance. If it is -34 there check your transaction history to see what happened. The linden balance displayed in the viewer sometimes glitches, i.e. shows a zero or strange value so it could be that. If that is the case it should correct itself.
  5. You would be better off asking this kind of question in the opensource-dev user group. There is not much discussion of viewer development in the forum.
  6. That is an alpha layer doing that. Some clothes use alpha (transparent) layers to hide the body under the clothing so that your body doesn't poke out of it. When you take off that item of clothing you have to take off the alpha layer too or you are left with a transparent bit of body. Right click on yourself and in the menu go to Take off/Clothing/Alpha to remove all alpha layers.
  7. I'm not sure if I understand what your problem is but I notice that you don't have "Use lossless compression" checked in your upload box.
  8. Your fatal mistake was to engage a youngbuckrabbit in conversation. If someone breaks into your home just ban them. All he means by DDoS is that he is going to annoy you a lot or he is threatening to. I am sure that he was delighted when you repeatedly asked him to leave so that he had the opportunity to mug you.
  9. You can convert a GIF into a SL animated texture. Here is one way: http://www.outworldz.com/Secondlife/Posts/Gif/Create-Gif-in-Second-Life.htm
  10. Your login picture is either screen_home.bmp or screen_last.bmp in the folder C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\YOUR_SL_NAME depending on if you are logging in to your home location or your last location. The home picture is recorded when you set home. The last picture is set the last time you logged out successfully. So if you are logging in to home and seeing an old picture that is expected behavior, All you have to do is go to your home set the scene to look pretty and set home again. That's probably going to fix it for you but if you see an old picture when you log into last location I suggest you do a fresh install following the procedure here: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231
  11. That error normally means that there is a connection problem at your end. First thing to try is to turn off your router, or disconnect the power supply from it and leave it off for a couple of minutes to let the power drain. Then connect it back up again. If that doesn't fix it try Nalates troubleshooting page: http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/
  12. Google 'lsl pose ball scripts' gives results. Just drop in the script and the animation and you have a pose ball.
  13. Any scripted solution is probably going to look horrible, i.e. jumpy/jerky. The best solution depends on why you want to do it. You can alt +left click on an object and your camera will follow it or you can use flycam (joystick/gamepade) to steer your camera to follow the saucer. I also have a virtual joystic solution on my website (i.e. software only) in beta here: http://www.atob.ws/VirtualFlycam.aspx
  14. Find out about different types of lighting, windlight, projected lights and so on and then try reproducing different types of portrait lighting as these examples http://digital-photography-school.com/6-portrait-lighting-patterns-every-photographer-should-know/ Search youtube for tutorials for retouching sl photos, there are quite a few that I found useful.
  15. I have no idea, there is no in world measurement in MBs so I don't think that it would tell you anything useful. More usual is to look at prims per sqm which is also land impact per sqm. Old style prims you just count up, land impact is used for mesh as an approximate equivalent. There is a table here https://secondlife.com/land/pricing.php.
  16. Log into the main website and on the right of the page click on the button "Get your new home now". If you already have one it will display the details, if not you can select one.
  17. There is a great group you can join for Firestorm support Firestorm Support English.
  18. Particles depend on two settings the on off settings and the Max particles setting. If this is set to a low value you may not see particles,. default is 4000 in prefs/graphics.
  19. Great work Jackson, Michael would be proud.
  20. You would probably be better off with a single higher spec card which will run two monitors, which most cards do.
  21. Try a clean install: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 If that doesn't help read this: Why am I so Laggy?
