  1. Expanding on what both Sylvia and Jewell wrote, there is a free Linden Homes Security System in the Content Creation Pack, which is available in your HouseController (mailbox, life preserver, etc.). The Linden Homes Security System conforms to the Linden Homes covenant by default, so there is no need to worry about that part. It also allows for access to your parcel by group and you can even configure it so someone other than the owner can control it.
  2. Thank you very much. it is probably my favorite as well, though I do like them all.
  3. And for those who are curious, I build all of my shells and add-ons in world using prims, I texture everything as prims first, and then I use Mesh Generator to convert the prims to mesh. I do all of my texturing with GIMP. Excel helps me with both prim and texture placement. I know I can just export my prims as Collada files instead of using Mesh Generator for that step, but mesh objects created by Mesh Generator tend to be much more efficient regarding LI, and as we all know, maximizing LI efficiency means we can place more stuff.
  4. Assuming you mean everything outside, I am using 143 LI for the outside of my Havana Havana, and The House of Blues uses 124. Neither total includes my shells, as more of the LI for those applies to the inside, and I have some other items linked to them. I may have missed a shrub or 3 on the House of Blues, as linking most of the landscaping was not beneficial. If you mean just my shells, My Havana Havana is 10 LI, and House of blues is 11 LI. Both include lower half of all exterior walls, all interior walls, all ceilings, ceiling beams, and all floors. The House of Blues shell also includes the original decks, stairs, and exterior ceilings.
  5. It's all math. I probably use Excel more than GIMP when building/texturing.
  6. Overlays are probably my favorite decorating tool, though I likely use them excessively.
  7. Thank you. I went and had a look. Unfortunately, the textures, particularly on the stove, are a bit too "cartoony" for my personal tastes. Also, this is a great set for a commercial kitchen, but would be overkill for most Linden Homes, at least for me. I wouldn't mind having a "chef's dream kitchen" at some point, but I would likely only consider that on a private parcel where space and LI aren't so limiting. I do appreciate the suggestion.
  8. It did not when I checked it out a couple of weeks ago, but maybe the moles have added or will add one. I had to in paddle from 3 regions away.
  9. I saw a houseboat pop up on the land page, and couldn't resist the urge to claim it. It's not a keeper for me, so I'll be tossing it back in a few. If anyone desperately wants a houseboat, be on your toes. It's very near the new stilt home waterway. https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Tide Down/52/220/0
  10. Thank you, @Leora Jacobus. I don't currently sell any of my creations. One reason is that, while I think I do a decent job with how they look, I have not mastered the mechanics of creating mesh objects that always function as intended, so I sometimes have to use extra invisible pieces in order to maintain walkable surfaces, posts that act like posts, and other silly details. Attempting to package that effectively and explain to any buyers how to correctly install it isn't something in which I want to invest the time. Even if I overcame those challenges, I'm still not sure I would want to sell anything. I selfishly enjoy having one-of-a-kind items that no one else has. If I ever change my mind about that, I will let you know.
  11. I would imagine that there are stilt shells on the MP, but I haven't looked, preferring to make my own. I also made the decks, pergola, and various odds and ends inside the house. The "pool" is a modified Apple Fall Oregon Spa.
  12. It's just a shell with a blue and white wood texture on it.
  13. Thanks, Marianne. The Plantation kitchen is often too fancy for what I want, but I think it is well suited for the stilts. It has the bonus of being modular and has countertops that are easily retextured. I just can't bring myself to use any kitchen right out of the box. They rarely have a layout that works for the space, upper cabinets overwhelm most Linden homes, and as always, I prefer décor that no one else has. I use the combination of the Hive stove and Qutworld fridge often, as they go so well together, and the latter just looks better to me than the Hive fridge. Unfortunately, it keeps me tied to a retro style. I actually prefer nice modern stainless appliances, but I am still waiting for some in SL that look acceptably realistic. Stainless is so difficult to get right. The Roost stainless fridge is close, but I have never been able to find a suitable stove to go with it. I love making my own add-ons. It's the only way to have what I want, and to have something that I won't see on every any other home in my region.
  14. I’m not really feeling the chalets, so while I wait for whatever’s next, I thought I would do another stilt. Since I did a Havana inspired Havana last time, I opted for a more common coastal/nautical vibe for this one. I did stick with the Havana floorplan, as it’s small enough to reasonably fill, while saving enough LI to use on the great outdoors. The name of this one is Stilt House of Blues. While I am a fan of the blues musical genre, the name was inspired by the dominant color palette. I did recycle some ideas and décor from some of my previous builds, but it’s not always easy to avoid what I know and like. The full set of photos is on my flickr, and visitors are always are welcome to check it out in person as long as you wipe the sand from your feet before heading inside.
  15. Not all the homes on the "log landmass" are logs. There are quite a few Victorians, and a smattering of campers as well. Regardless, however many logs homes that there are currently, it clearly isn't enough. What I find particularly intriguing about your map is the obvious waterway. There have been many mentions of the obvious route through the new chalet regions, but it's clear that the moles have a plan for establishing a sailable path. It's nice to see seafarers' needs being considered. Not all of this is open water yet, but I suspect it will be at some point.
  16. For those who want to follow the map issue:
  17. I'm in no better position to answer that than you are, but there are a lot of technical things that go on behind the scenes from just being in the cloud. It could be something like the software responsible for updating the world map only runs on older operating systems that are no longer supported, and thus not available in the cloud. And either their planned workaround isn't working as intended, or they knew this was going to happen, but couldn't delay the uplift for just this. Or it could be any number of other issues. Regardless, I know they are fully aware how important having a functioning world map is to most of their use base, and I am confident that they will have it working as soon as possible.
  18. I don't know anyone who doesn't share this sentiment. It must be a fairly complicated fix, otherwise, it would be done by now.
  19. They aren't my cup of tea either, but luckily some of the other themes are more to my liking.
  20. Thanks. I'll have to play around with that. I don't typically have shadows enabled unless I am taking photos.
  21. That is only on the water "for now." That coastline will be added to at some point. Whether it will improve worsen the appeal of that parcel remains to be seen. Someone can enjoy waterfront in the meantime.
  22. You give me more credit than I deserve. Creating a nice nighttime ambience is a level of detail I rarely attempt. Tweaking lighting is a chore under the best of circumstances, and when you factor in the "where is that light coming from" effect that you get under the stilts, it's just not worth the effort to me. I do like a nice little outdoor space to enjoy at night, but I try to avoid having my house look like I am worried about finding it after a nighttime boating expedition. Most of the time, I keep my environment set to some measure of daylight, with most lighting in a turned off state. Light bleeding through walls and floors is more than my OCD can usually handle (pretends I can't see my neighbors' homes). Maybe someday, the technology will improve to prevent artificial light traveling through solid objects. The performance hit likely makes this a nonstarter, but there is no harm in wishing.
