  1. BTW, I see what you did there with you badge. That's so last week, dude. Ok, you had me agreeing with you totally in paragraph one. Then the whole tone of paragraph two, while I can understand a bit about why it is annoying to be analyzed, was a bit much. I do see some man bashing here, agreed. The last two sentences get back on track, but the "obsessed" part? I don't see any of this as being obsessive. The OP made an observation which seems to be accurate. She found it interesting and posed a question as to why her observation might be happening. People are responding conversationally which is a nice change from all the bickering. That's not being obsessive. I doubt anyone here has thought that much about it. ::: purrs, scratches the chair leg:::
  2. I think it also depends on what you mean by mean. Rude? nah, but I think some people view it as such. Stupid? nah, but I see a lot of it masquerading as mean. Etc. And I know the forums seem overrun by meanies lately, but it is truly only a handful of genuinely disruptive people combined with people with low settings on their collective BS meters. Never a good combo. In world especially, I rarely meet mean people. I meet people I don't want to know more than a casual conversation or even just reading their profiles, but on the whole more nicer than not folks.
  3. And I feel a bit guilty now! But you both look mah-ve-lous, dahlings. (zomg 1985? and there's so many good lines in this)
  4. Happy sigh. Pet peeve: Not being able to give 3D hugs sometimes via SL forums. Across a few threads, and a few people and most notably the sniffly, stubble-toed Scylla, Scylla, Scylla... THANK YOU. I haven't laughed so hard in the Forums in eons.
  5. Well I WAS KIDDING @Scylla Rhiadra And gentle is no longer people, human, possible, whatever it was supposed to be? Change this to look what I made you do...
  6. And you are defining a chosen few as? And slander! Lies! Ya can't out catty a cat...
  7. Thanks @Beth Macbain I'll check that out! And one that is probably similar, that I frequent is called "It's never your successful friends posting the inspirational quotes."
  8. I wasn't going to post another and then I checked my email. I get several e-magazine, newsletters, whatever they are called. This clip was in the latest and just had me cracking up. I was thinking up all sorts of picture responses to it, but I'll leave that up for y'all's imaginations.
  9. Please, at least your toes! I'm getting stubble burn when I kiss your feets.
  10. It looks like a nice piece of multifunctionalism to ME.
  11. deleted didn't realize Lil beat me to it so it was kind of a double post
  12. That's petite and adorable fur ball, I'll have you know!
  13. I understand that. I hope we get to a point where we can vote by computer though, not exclusively because that would be a class system too. Plus, who would want to deny Beth her "I voted!" sticker? I don't think Trump's motivation has anything to do with security though because I doubt if he has that level of understanding. I think his antipathy towards it is simply the more voters the less likely it is for him to get re-elected.
  14. Oh sure, Scylla messes with your vocabulary. For ten years all I've heard is how Scylla is great at this, Scylla is a goddess, Scylla knows all the things, Scylla is never "acrimonious much". Scylla. Scylla. Scylla! :::pouts::: :::tries to think of a big word. can't. because: cat :::
  15. You all are peeving me out. (You know it is serious when it is you all and not y'all. That's like using a kid's middle name when you're yelling at him.) I want to reply with a 😄 (sincere) to @kiramanell's 😞 to my post but I can't!
  16. Pet peeve: I often read posts by taking a quick look at the avatar picture in the circle over there <--- to ascertain who is saying what. Jeebus @Scylla Rhiadra and @kiramanell ONE of you needs to change your photo! They are both near black backgrounds, dramatically dark faces, and I'm getting confused!
  17. The one I do most frequently is with depth of field. I only have that on for photos. I often use a very tight DOF so that the foreground and background are blurred. Log in to be met with some kind of bad trip blur! Move around. Get dizzy in RL. Luckily this one I quickly recognize and will immediately swear, roll my eyes and change it. Quickly realize is not the same thing as "immediately" realize, so there's always that brief freak out that the computer is broken and/or my eyes have finally gone from farsighted to legally blind.
  18. I'm totally jealous of Kali and her cupcakes. @Sukubia Scarmon your first paragraph was read and :::hug::: for you to be soon out of the not good place. This does feel a bit like a gratitude journal, and nothing wrong with that! I always tried for 5 things when doing a gratitude journal. I'm grateful that I got into the subsidized housing complex that I wanted, that is literally right across the street from my old, expensive place. I needed "no stairs" and didn't get it but I got "relatively few stairs." The apartment is much nicer than the expensive one. I'm grateful for the river rapids that is right outside my windows. It is a lovely sight and sound. I thought it might get annoying after a while because it can be quite loud, especially with the windows open, but nope, it is never anything but calming. Green leaves on the trees, that pretty spring "lookit me I'm new!" green. That I did not go with my insecure, introverted instincts and say "no" to an offer to build (actually assemble, the only thing I can build in SL is a cube and put a spin script in it). I had turned it down once before due to hiding instincts and depression (often one and the same). This time "underwater) was too much to resist. It is a terrific opportunity, it is a creative outlet, and I met a nice new person. Pretty much "win win win." SSDI. It pays next to nothing. I live well under poverty level BUT it keeps me afloat especially now that I have subsidized housing. I've not lived extravagantly ever, but had a comfortable lifestyle in CA. Since then, I'm pretty low maintenance. I don't need a lot (thankfully) and right now it seems ok. Do-able. :::cough::: Of course I'm writing this BEFORE I lay out an actual budget, but for now, it is good.
  19. Not super sekret SL peeve: Ultimately, the peeve ends up being "user error" but I will deny it. Messing around with my photo setting to get a nice artsy fartsy glow effect on a very specific place. Ending that. Turning off SL. Logging back into SL a good while later, and so totally forgetting what I had done hours previously, because: cat. Log into the region where I am building to be met with total white, blue and green screen flares. Blindingly so. Move my avatar around to get out of whatever horror is happening. Can't. Start panicing that my less than new computer is dying. Sure that the graphic card is blowing up. Zomg! My backup laptop is dead ages ago, if I lose the desktop... Anxiety attack in RL. :::lightbulb::: Oh yeah. GLOW effing settings. And voila! Nice underwater scene! Whew. Uncomfortable laugh at my stupidity. Followed by texture editing the glow down to nothing on all of the effing underwater plants.
  20. Over the last ten years or so I have had every job end with: owner retiring so the business closed, lay off, company deciding after the 90 day probation that they didn't need that job after all, desperate awful temp work, outsourcing, that full time position being change to PT... AND this has been in three different states! So yeah, the nightmares of the noobies to the system(s). Thank goodness your friend had access to you! I was shaking my head reading this because what happened to her is so easy to imagine. Certain sectors of the political sphere want to make it out that the safety nets in the USA are so rigged that they can be easily abused. Ha! They are so rigged to be easily misunderstood! I'm not stupid and have a college education and yet, I still found myself reading through govt legalese mumbo jumbo and having to reread, and reread, and scratch my head, and look things up on Google. Every time that happened I wondered about the poor (literally and figuratively) souls who maybe are not quite bright, have limited reading skills, don't have access to computers, and so on. That's not just for UE, but all of the safety nets in place. I'm now on SSDI and well, that is no exception.
  21. It honestly feels like *everything* is related to covid anymore.
