  1. From the BBC. It's possibly the worst Top 100 list ever compiled. Fleabag is a cute comedy, but Top 5 material? A poll like this should have been open to the public, the results are seriously skewed when 'TV Experts' are voting on a limited selection of shows. Where was Rome, and Spartacus? And I can understand shows like Banshee, The Boys, Invincible and Gangs of London are on the violent side, but they're highly recommended(by me!). Overall only 8 non-English shows were featured in this list, all from the EU as it appears Japanese and Korean TV does not exist.
  2. My other avatars which were more extroverted were more likely to encounter random reactions, almost entirely from other men. But it's usually followed by wanting to know where a particular item/skin is from.
  3. From a content creator's perspective, the difference between L$10 and L$64 is negligible, you'll make it back on the first sale. With web browsers starting to support the AVIF format, I haven't seen anything about its use in game engines yet. Is it feasible for Second Life, would it trim 50% from file sizes and squeeze more textures into your memory.
  4. Facebook to hire 10,000 in EU to work on metaverse. Why the EU? Maybe to appease European regulators into not having a "This metaverse uses cookies" popup every time you launch the game. And Steam have banned games from using NFTs on their platform. Given the timing, it may be to keep the Steamdecks from becoming crypto farming machines in this trend claiming the MMO space. Do you remember Google Cardboard? Eventually it will become viable when 120Hz screens can comfortably display environments at 120fps, that's a couple of GPU generations away. The definition of a metaverse is fairly loose right now with even games like Fortnite occupying the category, so could FFXIV and Star Citizen. To me a metaverse begins with its socials features, something I feel Facebook and Epic are overlooking in their definitions, they're focused on delivering experiences and branded content. Second Life is built on a strong set of social features which understands you want to make, and take friends to those experiences. And where SL is profiting from extortionate land pricing, other metaverses will optimize every space for advertising. For all it delivers (particularly in the adult space), SL has no competition right now.
  5. This is from last month (full article at the Washington Post), I don't recall it being posted here. Facebook basing their metaverse on VR headsets is shooting themselves in the foot(if they had one). Who wants to wear one regularly. Epic have the technology, but no one wants a metaverse with Fortnite's cartoony visuals. Second Life is still the defining example of a metaverse, but it's no longer mentioned with the cool kids.
  6. There are a bunch of tech-demo's trying to cash in on the hype. This TCG World has a combination of low and high-poly models, and about 16 minutes in his avatar falls into the terrain. New asset-flip-verses are popping up at a monthly rate with that FOMO factor(fear of missing out (on that NFT goodness)). There's also Dreamworld, a hideous asset-flip of a procedurally generated metaverse. The only entertainment from this project was the lead developer's ex weighing in on the scandal. Then there's Earth 2, another procedurally generated metaverse + NFTs, that's been trending for all the wrong reasons. A random video on the growth of blockchain MMOs. There will be no shortage of Unity/Unreal projects claiming to be future metaverses, many of them will succeed in seducing sales with that promise of profitable NFTs. These projects aren't even close to generating diverse biomes, atmospheric lighting, AI navigable terrain and a whole list of gaming-necessities which takes years to properly implement. Sapiens is by a lone developer, built on his own custom engine. It's been a journey watching his videos these past years, the game hasn't improved much visually, but he goes into detail of every challenge beneath the surface which brings the game together. It's not aiming to be a metaverse, it's just an interesting watch.
  7. The future of Secondlife by 2030 goes in one of three ways: Still chugging along, largely the same as today (75%) It's over, the company was sliced apart and sold off (20%) LL stepped up, modernized the viewer, released new creation tools and revamped regions (5%) The last is hopeful and by my estimate just a 5% chance of becoming so. It's the minimum SL needs to stay relevant. No Man's Sky took some 6 years to develop into a playable state. Star Citizen will take longer. The good news for LL is, no one's about to release a procedurally generated metaverse anytime soon.
  8. To many around the Internet, Star Citizen is a scam. But I've had a good time with the alpha, it is the ultimate space fantasy. This is a summary of their recent citizencon with insights into their technology. Metaverses can adopt aspects of their procedural planet generation, and the server architecture too. With a central server holding details of every object in the 'verse and relaying it to the player's instance. It's nothing ground breaking, but good to see actual progress in the MMO space.
  9. You're unlikley to find the exact look you want. @VaelFaye's suggestion is the standard method of building outfits, shop around different stores until your costume is complete.
  10. Attaching fingernails and nipples will be a new experience for many men and not a development I'm thrilled about! I like my easy-mode male bodies. The shape of Kario Fit seems similar to Legacy Athletic, I wouldn't go through the trauma of changing bodies just for that. But I'll be buying it for Kario Flex and the RP characters it could make. Aesthetic is dated now, with so little support I've been unable to use it for years.
  11. I appreciate their ban on 'romantic content', it's the right move for a child centric game. Fortnite is often described as a multiverse and I can't see why, unless I'm missing something it's just a battle royale game with the occasional concert. FFIV is closer to being a metaverse with their ERP escorting scene. When Roblox's current generation have matured, there probably will be an 'adult zone' to accommodate them. Around the same time we'll see a combination of erotic trends, like wireless headsets, haptic wearables, Internet toys, ASMR and virtual escorting taken to a new level.
  12. These characters were from a Fallout roleplaying sim. He was a pacifist Hubologist, who sometimes joined combat missions under disguise. There's something fun about roleplaying combat with a doberman at your side.
  13. It's liked a buffed Gianni, I'll likely try one out. Those hips are severe, it's one issue I couldn't deal with on Gianni.
  14. A glimpse into the professional world of Slap fighting (It's taken more seriously in Poland). Trigger warnings apply.
  15. A drama around Google Earth? It's got to be a fun watch. The Haunting of Hill House was remarkably well written, it's horror perfection. So I was excited for Midnight Mass, it felt like a Stephen King adaption with the small town setting, wide range of characters and even an odd priest. All well and good. From the seven hour runtime, over two hours are sermons and hymns. I can't imagine any show with this length of sermons outside of Evangelical TV. So it's taking a horror trope and exploring it through a congregation's perspective. The sense of isolation and suspense this show needed never materialized. It's a shame since Mike Flanagan did such a fantastic job on Hill House. By the end this show needed more John Carpenter and less SK. Seeing the priest(actor) reminded me I need to finish Tell Me Your Secrets, it's been good so far.
  16. When parked on my skybox(About 90% of my SL), I'll zoom out and set to 0m. 200m is enough to see the entire sim, or cam across sims. I can't say I've ever needed to go higher. Being out on roleplaying sims, will usually use 128m. Shopping is 64m or less to rez what's closest. Setting crazy high distances is stressing your hardware for no reason, SL can be running for long hours so consider limiting it to 60fps and reducing the draw distance so your cache is working less too.
  17. The *decade* of Linux gaming is here. I no longer game, so it's not going to change much for me. And I haven't had much success with Proton in the past, so I'm skeptical about their 100% compatibility claims. But Valve's devices will bring Linux a step closer to mass market appeal.
  18. Gabe is the best thing to happen to Linux, since Linus himself. The 2020s will be good for Valve, and Linux too courtesy of the Arch-based SteamOS. The Steam Deck, the VR headset codenamed Deckard and the rumored Steam Console(this time built by Valve). All running on SteamOS. Linux gamers make up around 5% of the marketshare now, once millions of these units are in the wild, it'll boost that figure to the point Linux gaming will need to be taken seriously. Epic and Battleeye have already acknowledged this by releasing their anticheat software for Linux. A real win would be a Linux release of the Epic client and GOG(which has supposedly been under development for a decade). Valve really pushed Linux gaming forwards during the 2010s until it seemed they had abandoned SteamOS, but it's back with a vengeance and the 2020s will bring Linux gaming closer to parity with Windows.
  19. This pixel art and the soundtrack go so well together. The gameplay hasn't fared so well, they should have stuck to making a feature length pixel art movie with that crazy concept.
  20. Incredible to see wildfire smoke spreading across states.
  21. Succession is finally returning this month. For whoever hasn't watched it, feel ashamed, then watch seasons 1 and 2.
  22. For those who've been following the 'Facebook is bad for girls' revelations, the actual whistleblower will attend a hearing tomorrow. Far be it for me to defend Facebook, but people have always had insecurities. Before social media, we were blaming a rise in anorexia and bulimia on teenage magazines and fashion models. Decades later it's still the same issue with the blame thrown onto a topical target. Will pointing fingers at Facebook help the children? I doubt it. Is there a responsibility on media giants to engineer public opinion? It already happens, but for their own ends.
  23. If I was banning things from SL to protect the younger residents, smoking wouldn't even reach my top 20 activities of concern.
