Doux and Magika offer different sizes and can often be good fits. Forehead aside, fit issues can come down to ear placement. I hate when hair is clipping through my ears! I’m not 100% on board with third party ears but I have a few pairs from Swallow for certain situations. The latest have an excellent skin matching hud for many major brands, and they let me finetune ear position for those behind-the-ear looks.

Alternate opinion: I see no problem with this and I dearly hope it wouldn't be considered a violation. There is a BIG difference between "You shouldnt violate the covenant" and "You must be this good at decorating to live in Bellisseria."

Trends in SL must be driven on some level by bloggers, photo takers, influencers, whatever you want to call them. And I think they are the exact demographic not likely to care about glitches and issues, to be comfortable with workarounds, because the shape of the mesh and how it looks in their photos trumps everything else. I'm sure a good number of early adopters were creators themselves, from which flowed a plethora of skin and makeup options admittedly too beautiful to be denied. Unfortunately I think it's also the root of a support culture / fandom where known issues are brushed aside with unsatisfying workarounds. It doesn't all come down to users not being savvy enough to make it work. Maybe that's too negative, I dunno what the forum policies are really. I'm really not trying to drag the brand, just my observations on the rise of Genus over the last year.

No doubt! I've said before it's only because I love the Genus heads that I can get so worked up about certain issues! I am still ready to go back at the drop of a hat / update.

I dunno, or it means you're not that into Catwa so you have no reason to keep track? I don't wear Genus anymore so I didn't know they had a branded BOM applier, not sure where I would have heard—maybe a missed redelivery, group I'm not in, discord? BTW Catwa has had similar since BOM went live, and its now included on the HUD (among many enhancements starting with updates to 4.0 in August.) Personallyt, I assume I will have to check myself for updates to any product I'm interested in. I don't think Catwa (or Genus) is particularly good or bad in that regard.

Well said on the pros and cons. I can only add one negative, which is that, imho, Genus has yet to prove they are capable of addressing known issues with robust, well-tested updates. Soon enough it will be a year since the last significant update and there are still issues with eyes, with simple blinking, with animations looping jerkily, or randomly stopping and so on. The same list of things to be addressed has been pinned on discord for far too long. I gave up.

I see it used more in lingerie. Moon Elixir / MUSE for example do a lot of perky fits. They make one eye-grabbing push-up dress as well. Va va voom! For the more fully clothed, Tetra sometimes includes natural and perky variants.

Putting the cost aside, I simply can't wrap my head around what "witty" means to LL in the context of these new names. I guess we'll see but I am reminded of a quote from The Simpsons: "We need a name that's witty at first, but that seems less funny each time you hear it." Rideout would make a great last name. I took it from Thomas Pynchon's Against the Day. Now that's cachet!

Living with 1440p and higher monitors, as I imagine many designers do, its probably easy to forget that many of us aren't there. Clean and minimal huds that can also be resized and retain functionality are always welcome, agreed. That said, upgrading your monitor is a pure joy. Such a key part of how we see this world.

Go a couple thousand meters above sky level and look again. Even 1000m may be enough.

I wonder what the story is with case sensitivity and old names. I often see people with a lowercase first name / last name combination. Was it possible for jane Doe and Jane Doe to coexist at some point? Or are they one and the same with the presentation depending on the initial registration? Is it possible to "correct" such a name with these upcoming changes? I think a lower case first name would tweak me more than Resident, at least Resident is hidden. If I were missy Rideout I'd be looking forward to name changes for that reason alone. What's in a name? Apparently a whole heck of a lot.

And I can see it being a big deal to couples, if the process makes it easy to have matching names. My partner has an old name but I know he would happily change to something new, We have been cautiously looking forward to that since they were announced.

Indeed. My feelings on last names were formed (festered? lol) over the last almost 10 years, not in the last couple. The fact that we notice those 1-2 people in a crowd is a perfect example of the imagined cachet of a last name. Not that I want one to bring myself to some exalted status, far from it. I wish they never got rid of them, and I wish the return was for everyone free of charge.

And even if one has a readable display name there are always those who, for whatever reason, don't use display names at all. So I can be referred to by my preferred name even in Firestorm Support or talking to some old curmudgeon who refuses to acknowledge that display names exist. (Which is a thing, and if you have a last name of course you don't know it's totally a thing!)

Avatar age is the most visible form of -- yes, artificial, silly and meaningless -- status in-world. Last names have always been the dividing line between old and new. That won't change of course because everyone will know we didn't earn them! TONGUE FIRMLY IN CHEEK. It's really not that important and I'm not hurt over it. But I will pay.

Exactly, you have one, so of course you can't see any difference. For others it represents something more. Speaking only for myself, to me it represents becoming a fully fledged citizen of the grid after many years as a member of the "Resident" underclass. Which of course sounds crazy to you, from the lofty position of already having a grand old name! Let's say you had to pay $50 USD or become TarinaSewell Resident, would you pony up? No? Well you are a more evolved person than I. I want my vanity plate.
