  1. Seconding this, any high-traffic music venue as mentioned above is a great place to meet people when you're new. Just don't be afraid to chat out loud, compliment people if you like something they're wearing, etc. Mileage always varies, of course, but show up to a few of them enough times and you'll start seeing the same people, and they'll recognize you, and it all goes from there.
  2. Look up "Orville Redenbacher Rule 34", if you never want to have offspring. I hear monasteries keep the pics on the walls to keep the monks from getting too frisky.
  3. I have it on good account that many of the demons mentioned in a certain Babylonian text take the form of pink elephants (kidding about that, they're actually far nastier), and the only way to get rid of them for good is to quit believing in them. People who disregard the possibility of multitudes of demons being able to crap up their lives tend to have far less trouble with demons, it seems.
  4. If it's b0rked, and you can get me there, I can fix it. As long as it's not some onboard computer module or something, they make those impossible to fix without sending them off somewhere. If you just want it all supercharged and murdered out, that might take a bit. I'll need lots of bologna sandwiches and kool-aid. Also, scripts. If you want custom scripting for a bike, HMU inworld sometime, and we can talk.
  5. A lot of hurt can be avoided by being patient, and just seeing what develops. I do think there's wisdom in not rushing things and actually getting to know people before deciding they're your peeps. I think it was C. S. Lewis who said it but I'm not sure. I'll quote it anyway. "A friend is someone who knows all about you, and still likes you." It's important to remember it goes both ways though, and not everyone who would otherwise make a great friend might enjoy knowing they're being judged for fitness while getting to know someone. Kinda makes one feel like an object, being treated like a car, or other purchased item. I also think a friendship/acquaintance that's more open on one side than the other might tend to get stressed more easily than one that's just left open on both sides. This is why in the majority of cases, even if I end up blocking someone and defriending them, at some point I unblock them and will greet them in passing, and see what happens. That's part of the patience thing. If they bounce back and show any openness towards me in return, I open back up and see what develops again. There are people who despise me, whom I would be open to friendship with, or at least amiable acquaintance. I only ever really close someone off if they spit in my face too many times in a row, so to speak. If I see them later, and they're not spitting at people anymore, I close the umbrella and give them another chance. I'm just really slow to do it, sometimes.
  6. See, the great thing is, once they discover video gaming, you don't have to interact with them at all, and they'll credit you with being the world's best parent. Unless it's a girl, in which case she'll become a teenager and hate you until she has her own kids and needs help and realizes you weren't so bad. As for incarcerated sons, I always thought that was just part of the tribal rite of passage into adulthood, doing something stupid, going to jail, and getting a job to keep out of trouble when they get out. Along with running away from someone else's pregnant teenage daughter.
  7. Heck, I'm a character from someone's stories, and even I can't stay fixated entirely. Even I have a 1st life somewhere. Also, forum games. There would be more engaging and better spam threads overall if there was even just a tiny little section specially for them. I can understand if they tried it, and just wound up doing it this way because maybe SL users are a particular crapfest on forums, it just sucks that the litter gets all over the place instead of having a designated spot. And no, I'm not going to some other forum. Nice try, though.
  8. I have a constant fear a duck is always near.
  9. Peeve: I go out of my way to wait until the only other dot on the mini map is inside their home, where they got their own parcel and all, before daring to rez a prim, turn it into a musical dance floor, and dance on it, so as not to blow anyone away by blasting metal across the entire sim. I rez my prim, start to dance, and THEN a visitor shows up, runs for the quiet zone, and then leaves. -_-; I can't even sneak around and jam out by myself without scaring people. Sigh.
  10. And, of course, an Iron Maiden session is never complete until I play my song. IYKYK. Life down there is just a strange illusion.
  11. I've never had to get that involved with a melee weapon. This all looks a lot like someone taking Aley's old pirate sword script and trying to make it into a working weapon, instead of a theatrical prop (I did this myself years ago, so yeah, looks reeeeally familiar). Lightsabers tend to be made this way, too. When I decided to make melee weapons, I just made them shoot people with invisible bullets, timed to die at close range. As for using a sensor, I'd use that to message the opponent when hit, and tell the meter (if using one) that they've been hit (if it works that way). Pushing is unreliable. And pushing them across the sim is probably a bit unreasonable. As for left clicking and arrow keys, I'm used to that being how you use a sword outside of Mouselook, not in it. Also, the misspellings in the listen section of your draw/sheath script will cause it to malfunction. Hope it helps.
  12. Rowan Knows (most of the time) ®? Hmm, not the same. So, I'll let it slide this time, you're fine. Gotta keep the branding intact, I already had all the t-shirts printed.
  13. I've had mesh appear inside out before being re-rezzed. Dissapearing face by face, until taken back into inventory while texturing. As far as I can tell, it's just the viewer being crabby. I had the right-click-to-see-mesh problem for a while myself, it hardly happens anymore. If I recall it was one of the things that stopped happening so much when I reduced my maximum bandwidth to way lower than my connection speed. Something about that seemed to fix an awful lot of stuff not appearing properly for me. Still can't see some sculpts properly sometimes until I've been on a sim for a few minutes. Off-sim decor looking like a huge green UFO for a few minutes is just a part of my reality.
  14. I know people have done scans and generated (at least rough starting) 3D models that way, but all I've seen so far of AI doing anything with mesh is a box getting collapsed on upload. I'm sure someone somewhere is working on it, though. If they haven't got it working already.
