Come to think of it, until last night, my avatar had been naked for three weeks and not set foot out of my home.

I log in at least once a week to pay my rent and stare with dread at my inventory for 30 seconds. Does that count? Actually, last night I went dancing at a club I like and had a good time. Otherwise, I'm fairly sick of 'shopping' and would like to explore SL socially a bit more...as my RL becomes more stable this year.

This! I have a gradually expanding circle of people that I'm out to, for safety reasons. Early on however, a couple of people outed me without thinking to people I definitely wouldn't want to know any personal information about me and I was lucky that the fallout was fairly minor.

I get that. The most helpful way to change that is to normalise better introductions by setting an example.

"do you need me to use particular pronouns?" Or "Sorry, I didn't realise. I'll try to remember." Etc. Pretty easy.

I'd expand that beyond gender to apply to any group of shared experience that we identify with. We're all complex, intersectional beings that benefit from seeing and feeling reflections of ourselves in others that overlap or connect with our experiences of the world.

My NYE so far: Catching up with admin correspondence. Doing my accounts. Calculating my projected earnings for January. Sketching out business plans. Getting a bit twitchy. Messaging loved ones before what comes next. Opening wine. Making mental note to message carefully from now on. Feeling soppy. Messaging with reckless affection. Wondering if more wine will sober me up..
