  1. I try to send nonsense IM's every now and then to most my friends, or initiate talk but even with my fairly small friends list sometimes longer periods of silence occur. Not always a bad thing, and with some its perfectly fine, do not always need to talk much to stay friends (like in rl). I did loose some friends I did care about but just never had much contact with, tat is sad in a way but also OK. Its not like we can not get back in touch if occasion arises. And it work both ways, the friends I "lost" was two way silence. I do try not to just accept any friendship request or give out to many and keep the list manageable.
  2. I do the same, buy cloths and items that I love, that fit to my style, and pimp/tweak them (or sometimes not) all to fit my taste and for my entertainment. But you can not deny we also like to show it off and let others see, judge and enjoy the attention. Why else do we post out pictures here on the forum, flickr, or do a blog?
  3. Nope, I typed I draw the line if someone gets hurt by it. In the case of Marvel not having any business in SL and thus not get its business hurt by someone selling ***** in SL I dont care about it. I'm not advertising for it, i'm not buying it, I just don't care about it. And I'm just saying I'm not holier than the pope. I pay for everything I use for my business, but at my private home PC i surely have software that I might not have the license for. I pay for my movies and series (Netflix, Apple TV, and other services) but if there's a series I really want to see and its in no way available in this country due to rights, I do download it. And theres more examples like that. Does that make me a hypocrite and have double standards? Probably yeah. Do I feel bad about it? Nope not really.
  4. That's not what I typed. But besides that yeah, I am probably a bit hypocrite, also have double standards here and there, and I have a lot more of those general human traits.
  5. I think this is a fine line to be drawn. And like I said before, its not that I completely disagree, I just thought the statement was way to black and white. Myself, I draw the line when its hurting someone. In the case of Marvel (owned by Disney), who does not make anything in SL themselves I still know it is copyright theft, or even a form of copybot (since they probably copy the mesh model from a game or so) but it does not bother me to much. When someone does it with items that are already being created and sold in SL, I do mind. They are hurting someones business. I would not buy from them and report them. Thats my point of view, not the 100% correct one, but I like grey areas
  6. I agree if you break the law and get caught you pay the consequences. I just don't agree on the whole "stealing is stealing and its all exactly the same" black and white mindset. Many people break the law without even knowing it. Are they the same as someone who breaks in a house and steals something? I have had someone break in my company, over 50k euro's damage and stolen wares. If I would have the guy who did that in my hands I would probably be arrested for breaking some laws after being done with him. Though when I saw someone using a photo I made on their website that they did not ask or pay for, I did not even bother to mention it. Both stole from me, but its not the same. For example, the banners many people use for their marketplace link, like Drake or Syn. Are you 100% sure the font you used is free to use for commercial purposes? Or maybe the free photo editor or filter you used to create it in or make your product pictures in, is it also free when used for business ends? Maybe the little flowers in her banner, are they copied from a picture on the internet? All the files from your marketplace shop, maybe you archived them on your PC using the free Winrar or Winzip tool. But oh my, that's not allowed to be used commercial purposes either! You have to buy the license! Your in world store, that lovely radio stream your playing, did you also check the license model of that? All some random examples that might not apply to you, but happens all the time. And Drake's copyrighted profile picture, could say its not being used in a commercial way, but each post you make with it you also use to advertise your marketplace link in your signature? I could not care less, but maybe strictly to the letter of the law that could be seen as breaking copyright?
  7. Yeah! I mean most singers that are featured by PMJ are good, but Haley is just awesome
  8. Copybot is like taking a book, make exact photocopies of it and sell those copies. That's not exactly the same as me writing an entire book, thinking the entire story up myself, but the story takes place in the Marvel universe, and that's copyrighted so not allowed. Noone is justifying it. We are just saying we (and probably the victim of the deed, Marvel) do not care about some level of "stealing" enough to make an issue out of it. Just like I don't care if someone crosses a street while light is on red, or turns on his radio while working in a public place. No one is saying its not a breach of law, its just one of such a low importance and impact that we can live with it perfectly fine. But your views and mine are too far a part to ever come to a mutual opinion I guess, so lets agree to disagree
  9. When you are at work and listening to (internet) radio loud enough for others to hear, you are breaking the law because you are not allowed to play music in a public area without paying rights. If you make a screenshot of someones work, avatar or just in general of SL and post it online you probably are infringing some copyright here or there. There's many gradations in breaking the law willingly or unwillingly. If I speed with my car 5 kmh/mph too fast I am breaking the law, I would not call it the same level of bad than someone robbing a bank for example. In this specific case this is a nice article about the reasons why Marvel in this example does take down SL content but why they really do not care about this little stuff besides the need to act on it for the way how copyright/trademark law works.
  10. Because in general opinion when its done with materials from very rich corporations on such a small scale that it does not really harm or even bother them, is not really that bad. Of course strictly seen its illegal. But so was taping music from the radio in my young years, copying a video tape or downloading MP3 music, streaming a movie that was not out yet and so on. And yeah, I did those too. If someone makes content in SL and someone else copies that and starts selling it too, I would not buy it and feel its a bad thing to do. If someone makes a copy of a Spiderman outfit and sells it in SL, I don't care a bit about it really. Its not like Marvel has their own business in SL and misses out on the money now.
  11. I buy things I like (you really don't need most things you ever by in rl of sl) with money I have, with or for friends to have fun. Fully agree with Lancewae, most of the deocrating and dressing up is fun and relaxing. Would not really call it artistic in my case, but it sure fuels some creative needs.

Do others also see it? Could be a viewer side glitch. Could try different graphic setting, or emptying cache files?
