  1. All the leading "slim" mesh bodies work basically the same, and with a bit of work (adjusting your shape and setting mesh body alpha cuts) can be made to fit into most mesh clothing, though it is true that Maitreya has the biggest choice of clothes designed to fit it out of the box, while Slink has the biggest choice of compatible shoes. Both would be excellent choices. If you want to use texture clothing then you need to make sure it comes with a compatible "applier" for the mesh body you use. Omega appliers are compatible with all the major bodies. As you say, trying to match the mesh body's built-in skin with your existing head skin is not always successful. The alternative is to use a skin package which includes both a classic skin (for your head) and a matching applier for your mesh body. I don't know of any solution to the neck seam problem other than buying a mesh head. Unfortunately though, moving to a mesh body involves having to let go of a lot of our old wardrobe. When I did it about 6 months ago I was reluctant to let go of the old stuff, but when I look back on it now I can't believe I actually used to like that old tat when the modern alternatives are so much better.
  2. I use the free Basically Girl AO with the standing animations disabled to stop her fidgeting so much. It's quite elegant I think. I don't think it comes with any Bento animations, but you can add your own animations to it.
  3. I'm not arguing with Seana or Tazzie, but here is a picture of me wearing a Maitreya-fitted bodysuit with a size M high-waist pencil skirt. With just a little shape adjustment it's a good fit, with no cutting even when dancing. And a lower waist and looser fit would be even more forgiving.
  4. That's always the problem with layering mesh clothes. What I do is wear a rigged mesh outer in one of the traditional sizes, and adjust my shape as necessary. Or maybe, if you are wearing a Slink Physique body, wear an outer fitted for an Hourglass, or some other fuller-figured body.
  5. Lol! Wikipedia calls that the "Scunthorpe problem".
  6. The blotchy skin sounds like you're not wearing the Slink alpha layer, which would cause competition between the Slink skin and the classic skin. After fixing that, then if you still have skin poking through clothes, you will need to adjust your shape and/or set alpha cuts in the Slink HUD.
  7. Most clothing in traditional sizes can be made to fit a normal mesh body, by adjusting your shape and the mesh body alpha cuts. Just as you usually need to do with a classic body. I haven't counted but I think most of the clothes I regularly wear on my Maitreya body were not made specially for it.
  8. You don't need to go anywhere for "these things". You already have a set of components for your system body, and a set of Maitreya Lara mesh body parts which you can wear as well. For stuff like hair and clothes, the SL Marketplace has lots of good stuff at all prices from free to ridiculous. If you need any more help, let us know the details.
  9. You can always buy/rent land, paying according to size and prims (etc.) The Horizons scheme, operated by Linden, is designed as an easy upgrade for premium members.
  10. Thanks Rhonda. It was a normal clothes shop. My transaction history shows that the payment was sent to the store owner. I did get in touch with her, she sent me a screenshot of my transactions in her records which had no record of it, and I replied with a link to a screenshot of the full payment details in my records, but I have heard nothing back.
  11. I have a Caspervend 100 L giftcard for a particular shop and I attached it in order to make a purchase of 99 L, but I accidentally clicked "pay" instead of "giftcard", which is unfortunate but no big deal. The payment was charged to my account, but the item was not delivered, and it turns out that the merchant did not receive the payment, so she understandably would not do a delivery. I'm not going to kick up a stink over 99 L, but it could well have been a much bigger payment. Has anybody else here come across this problem before? Thanks a lot.
  12. I have 27 copies of the main part of my mesh body, each with different skins/appliers/alphas, 12 copies of the hands, 19 of the feet, and 17 shapes. That means that when I change outfit, the right body parts and settings are automatically selected too. It's a lot of work when an update arrives!
  13. If you are wearing mesh body parts with some exposed classic skin, then you will need to use a skin which comes with both an applier compatible with your mesh body (e.g. for Maitreya it must have either a Maitreya or Omega applier, and you must also have the Omega relay for Maitreya) and a skin layer for your classic body. You wear the classic skin and run the applier to cover the mesh parts.
  14. What do you mean a complete avatar? Do you mean a shape and skin and other bits, or a mesh body (which would cost around 3000 L)? It sounds like you are trying to wear the package that you bought. Many things you buy are supplied in boxes/bags, which you must open. Do that by going to an area where you have permission to rez objects (like a public sandbox) dragging the box from your inventory to the ground, then right-click it, select "open", then "copy to inventory". You can then wear the individual items from the package. Re texture modding, if you mean you would like to create custom skins, that is an advanced topic, really a subject for another day. Get used to SL first.
  15. You have several options: (1) Try reducing the size of your feet (right-click, edit appearance). (2) Are you wearing mesh feet? If not, then wear the alpha layer which should be supplied with the shoes. If you are, then maybe you could remove the mesh feet and the alpha layer that hides the original feet. (3) Alternatively, maybe you could resize the shoes. If you have modify permission, edit the shoes and increase their size as needed. Otherwise, some shoes have a resize menu which is activated by simply clicking on them.
  16. It is common for people to hold onto their classic head as the mesh ones tend to be quite similar and not as customisable (though Bento is changing that), so the most popular mesh body packages (for women anyway) don't include a head. Then when you want to use a particular skin you apply both the classic version (which affects the head) and the mesh-body version of the skin.
  17. Basically, mesh bodies are the trend du jour. The most popular option is to buy a set of mesh body parts, excluding the head, which you wear over your classic body, which makes it look far better. You can also buy mesh heads separately (Catwa is one brand) to wear over your classic head. As AnnistynSL said, Mesh Body Addicts is a very good site for advice on mesh bodies. Bento is simply the name given to the extra bones that were added to the SL skeleton last year, which enable more hand gestures and facial expressions and (for fantasy avatars) the addition of extra working limbs (and maybe a male "bone", I don't know! )
  18. Skins and hair (whether mesh or prim) work just as they did before, and you can easily alter your shape by adjusting your appearance settings in the viewer. If you buy a skin make sure it comes with a classic layer rather than mesh-body appliers (a modern trend). If you're thinking in terms of a mesh body, well that makes things a bit more complicated and expensive, and if you're happy with your classic body then don't feel pressured to change. I assume from your name (edit: and the thread subject, lol!), that you have a male avatar, so I can't offer help re designers etc. However, it's easy to find good stuff in the Marketplace.
  19. Details of your entire current inventory are (it appears) stored in the local computer file helpfully identified by Whirley Fizzle. If you were to backup that file on a regular basis and store the backups on your computer, then you could use special tools to analyse the difference between any 2 inventory files. For example you could compare your current inventory against the state of your inventory as it was yesterday or last week. That would show any differences, such as if a folder had been moved into Trash or deleted. And if the analysis is run regularly as an automatic scheduled job on your computer, the tool could send you an email every time, in a nice readable form, detailing the changes it found. That would be helpful information for a possible inventory-loss claim.
  20. Wow, that's great! The whole inventory list seems to be there. I wonder have there been any tools made to analyse it?
  21. Another option, which would not involve work for LL, would be for some viewer program to have a facility to dump all available inventory data to a file of the user's choosing. Then the user can compare inventory files offline all they want, with a variety of tools. It would obviously be useful for identifying disappearances, but also for offline tagging and other analysis. Of course it would not recover your missing inventory, nor constitute any sort of "proof" as it would not record manual deletions, but it would give useful information to enable you to decide whether to pursue a claim.
  22. I often get the "trash overflowing" message, but in my case it's totally justified. I'm in the habit of collecting huge amounts of freebies and deleting most of them. I have noticed things going missing, but never anything major, and can't rule out that it could have been my fault.
  23. What do you mean "go back to premium"? Were you premium before, then went back to basic, and now becoming premium again? I doubt very much if you would get a bonus for a second sign-up. Edit: LittleMe got there first!
  24. That would be because you have not applied a skin to the body.
