  1. I've just had this odd thing happen... In my cellar is a wall with a doorway. It is simply two linked prims, each with a hollow, textured to give an archway with cell grating. See the picture: I was tidying it up a litte, and changed the alpha mode from blending to masking, because I had noticed the occasional stacking issue and, I thought, to make life easier for rendering. It works visually perfectly with masking, but... ...suddenly, it got returned to my inventory along with a few other bits because my parcel filled up! On investigation, I discovered that using Alpha Masking on a 'complex' prim (one with a hollow) changes it to use (I guess) mesh LI rules. My 2 prim (and 1 LI) doorway had jumped up to 55 LI. I've confirmed this with a newly created cube, set with a transparent face. With no hollow, I can set either Alpha mode and it stays 1 LI. If I make it hollow, it jumps to 4 LI if I use Masking. Weird - I thought Masking was supposed to be simpler to render. I can sort of solve the issue if I change the linked wall to Convex Hull. It comes back down to 1 LI, but then I can't walk through the doorway. Set to prim, it goes back to 55 LI. Oh well, looks like I'm stuck with Blending. Just saying... comments are welcome.
  2. I understand your frustration, but... The information about what you can access is available, although personally I think it is probably not made clear enough without a lot of effort searching for it. That seems to be the SL way very often. See here and the links from it: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Premium-membership/ta-p/1054477#Section_.6.3 With regards to the 'sense' of the age ratings, which is the real reason I'm answering... It's a tough call really. SL's ratings very much do not work IMO, but SL (and us residents) have to be quite careful about our local (and international in SL's case) laws. It's just not feasible for SL to be split according to every RL country's individual and complex laws regarding minors, which under most jurisdictions you are. Realise this: There is content in SL (and on the marketplace) that could, if someone was reported to the UK police for just viewing it once, result in that person being put on the sex offenders' register for life and being imprisoned. Seriously - yeah! I'm not just talking underage stuff either. It's more that our (local and international) laws are screwed up, than SL being at fault here. That game you mentioned will be age-rated according to each country it is published in. SL can't really do that. .................. Anyway, You don't have too long to wait, and you could still get a home if you want one by buying a cheap 512m2 plot in a G sim and not have to pay monthly land rent. That's a perk included in your membership.
  3. ...back to far more relevant matters... What a wonderful sim! I'm sad that it's going, and that I've not been there before. At least I got to see it once though, thanks to the OP. Hopefully it will still be there in a few hours (when I'm back home) for another visit.
  4. Tracer rounds were developed to work around that bug.
  5. Please will you pm me the details too? It sounds like the sort of thing I might buy, or rather not buy now. Frankly, I'm a bit sick of seeing this sort of "buyer beware" extreme attitude displayed by some in SL. Whether it's in the TOS or not, it's despicable behaviour purely taking advantage of the fact that buyers have virtually no protection in SL. I have dealt with many terrific sellers here, but some sellers unfortunately don't fit that category. I sell a little too, and would never stoop to some of the behaviour some sellers exhibit, either in their teams or in actuality.
  6. wait... Are we talking about a pet, or a husband, here? * Have you searched your inventory for a notecard called "Certificate of divorce"? Or, perhaps check your friends to see if your breedable has transferred to one of them who has more available cash. Personally, I'm worth far more but cost a lot less that L$4500, I could offer a fair bit of breeding for L$500 a week, and I've just upgraded my attachment to stupid-looking 2.0. Plus, I don't complain and I can sound almost human too. * is there a difference?
  7. Still no IP replacement replacements, three days after I was assured both by ticket and chat that I would get them back. Ticket reopened... for what good it will likely do. I take it no one else has had anything returned yet? I wonder if we will get them back before the Christmas closure, or at all, for that matter.
  8. Sounds like a canned message to me too. I got a much shorter answer to my ticket, similar to on live chat. Basically my ticket response said "sorry, we're working on it, you'll get them back". Probably you got someone who hadn't read his internal emails for a day or so.
  9. I'm fairly sure that mine were taken again after the blog post about the issue. I have checked my inventory most days to check that my replacements were still there, and they were until yesterday afternoon. Oh well, I just can't be a samurai for the moment. I'll live... well, my enemies will at least.
  10. For what it's worth, I just spoke to support (I managed to stay polite).and I was told that I (and I assume we) should be getting our animations back., hopefully not in the far future. Fingers crossed!
  11. Right now I'm mad! All mine have been taken again. This is outrageous, no matter what some vague terms and conditions say! This is MY paid-for property! Can't wait for live chat to come alive in four hours... since there is nothing even near this in the 'raise a ticket' options. I have done anyway,
  12. I really like the new mouse walk function, once I got it working*. Even though I use a six axis controller, using the mouse to walk around is even easier. Especially easy for me because it's the way I've configured FPS and similar games to work with the mouse since Doom. *Enabling the "single click on land" to walk to the clicked point completely breaks the mouse walk and other things.
  13. Yeah, that'd work nicely. I can do llamas. ...perhaps I should rephrase that last sentance...
  14. Could we have Linden Tigers, or something instead of bears? I have a teddy bear phobia - can't even bear to look at the things in shop windows. I must have been terrorized by one as a child or something. No, seriously, I really hate the things! I'm bearing my soul here...
  15. From Magika's website (link from the owner's profile): Magika hair release 2014-08-17 I remade my store The sculpted hair retirement sale is still going on, but you have to use the teleportal at the landing point to get there. So, looks like it's probably been retired. Why not IM the owner to ask if it is still available? It can't hurt to try.
  16. I think what you are after is... Go to your Settings, click the Social Connect tab. From there, you can choose a background to display behind your profile picture, and other info to show.
  17. ...and the latest version is now 4.6.9.42974. Unfortunately they still haven't fixed the issue with animations in the built-in AO being stopped the first time an attached object plays a facial animation. I've seen another couple of odd, new 'crashes' too: My whole screen turned into a kaleidoscope for a few seconds once, then it lost all particle textures around me until I restarted. Hmm....
  18. It's a long time since I've had an AMD graphics or system board, but I can say this about the nVidia MSI GTX970: It's grrrreat! For the last few days I've been running two instances of Firestorm, one on each of my two monitors attached to the one GTX970 card. Windows maximised but not 'full screen'. The monitors are a 1920x1200 (yes, 16:10 not 16:9) and a 1600x1200. Graphics still set to maximum everything, RenderVolumeLOD (I think) at 6, and 256m view distance. No problems at all with both running at once, unless I go somewhere really busy like Frank's Jazz at rush hour (just a bandwidth issue there really with so many avatars) or some of the stupid huge Gatcha resale markets (millions of ridiculously complex objects make it lag). Even then it still runs. In quieter places, it's a perfectly smooth and high frame rate experience. Of course, if I just run one viewer, it's twice as perfect. I like my new graphics card!
  19. That does sound a bit like I was feeling a few weeks ago. Stuff taking ages to render, if ever, missing textures, poor response to anything I tried to do... I went through everything locally that I could think of, and couldn't find any problems. Having hassled tech support 'till they were no-doubt sick of me, and almost got to the point of giving up on SL, I found out by accident that I had a dieing network card in another PC on my network that only showed up problems on SL traffic (and FTP, how I found out). My PC worked fine doing anything else, even full line-speed downloading. I replaced the card. Now, SL is pretty darn good really. Hope you get things sorted, but as the posts above me say, SL is actually working quite well, even for me.
  20. If I stand naked in my (RL) home, and someone accidentally sees me though a window, I can be prosecuted for indecency. If I stand naked in my (RL) home and someone looks in though a window and sees me, I can have them prosecuted for peeping. No idea if that is really relevant to this thread, but it always amuses me since I walk around naked a lot of the time. You really wanted to know that, didn't you...? Personally I find it quite complimentary if someone is having a good look at me, if I feel anything about it. I'm talking SL and RL now I suppose. I had one drama queen have a go at me for looking at her when I was in a changing room once. Funny thing was I had no idea my crosshairs were anywhere interesting - I really hadn't been looking and must just have clicked somewhere accidentally while actually panning around myself. I wouldn't mind but she wasn't even pretty, lol. Anyway, I use a 3D mouse now - I can look around with that with no crosshairs to give me away
  21. 1. I had some taken from folders that were not in Firestorm's AO sets, although most of the taken ones were but then that's the only place I put them when extracted. 2. Mine weren't stolen, at least not by me and I certainly take Vista Barnes' word on the matter. 3. Likewise, although the only non-Vista one I had was the ""weloveyou-girl" which was taken out of the "OMG Dance with me super Angels" HUD that I bought a while ago. No idea if the HUD creator paid for it properly or not. (I'm assuming they did for the sake of politeness). That was just in a few folders, not in Firestorm's linked AOs. Also likewise, only a subset of the Vista animations were taken. 4. I got an email listing them yesterday morning, that's how I knew what to look for in my inventory.
  22. That sounds a useful feature! Got one or two of those broken links myself... I've noticed that the sound issues seem to be fixed when two viewers are running at once. I used to lose sound in all but the latest-opened viewer, but now I've got sound from two instances simultaneously. Great! Since my shiny new graphics card can easily handle two instances, one on each monitor, that's a useful fix. I did get the hardest crash I have seen in a long time last night. One instance of Firestorm froze up, and even Process Hacker couldn't kill the task. The other instance with my alt still worked, but I had to hit reset to restart my PC and kill the frozen one. Probably just a glitch at my end.
  23. The way I've got around this issue a few times, on things that don't have many reviews and I really think they deserve mine, is to add my comments to an existing review. I only do that if the review I'm commenting on is similar to my own thoughts, so as not to cause offence to the original reviewer or detract from their review. Of course, there has to be an existing review to begin with. Yeah, the review system on the MP isn't very good, but like a lot of things in SL, "it is what it is".
  24. Add the SWORD AO to that list. Notecard sent to Vista Barnes as requested.
  25. What's even more annoying is there isn't even a category in the 'raise a ticket' options anywhere near appropriate for this. Don't LL want to hear about such problems?
