  1. I just loved reading them...even though they're mostly the same. Sort of like reading the police blotters in the newspapers.
  2. Welcome to SL, both of you My first suggestion in finding new friends is to go into the search function at the bottom of the screen and look for groups that share your interests. Once you find it, join...most groups are free to join...then start a conversation. Maybe IM the moderator. I'm sure there are people there who would love to friend you and help you out. Good luck.
  3. I'm sorry that it turned out badly between you and the other owner....instead of changing groups or deleting it or anything, have you two talked it out?! Is there any way it was be fixed? Would avoid a lot of problems.

  5. Here we go again.... Good luck in your research study, but as you'll quickly find out, people on the forums aren't really very inclined to participate in surveys or research papers of any kind. You are more likely to get negative responses and insults than helpful information. You all appear to be new (I could be incorrect, but I'm taking it off your number of posts) so you're really not likely to get any help. My suggestion to all of you is to create a few avatars, go inworld and find this stuff out for yourself before jumping in here and having us be your information. Since there's 4 of you, should be a bit easier to move around the world and find out what you need. I don't really qualify anyway as a subject for your paper anyway, but I thought I'd prepare you for what's to come. Good luck again!!
  6. This conversation reminds me of a piece of the Argument Sketch from Monty Python's Flying Circus.... (Walks down the stairs. Opens door.) M: (Michael Palin) I want to complain. C: (Eric Idle) You want to complain! Look at these shoes. I've only had them three weeks and the heels are worn right through. M: No, I want to complain about... C: If you complain nothing happens, you might as well not bother. M: Oh! C: Oh my back hurts, it's not a very fine day and I'm sick and tired of this office. :matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  7. Hey Techie Peoples.... Can one of you people who are more tech savy on SL than I, help me with a few problems. I've been having issues on the SL Viewer and Firestorm. When I'm in SL, I get horrible lag when chatting. I type something in and most times I see it 10 seconds later. The people I'm chatting with see it right away and a second avatar I have on another computer also sees it right away. Also having problems sitting...I disappear or get surrounded in blue...before sitting down. Also, and I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but when I go into Marketplace I get pop up ads on the right side. Very annoying and screws up my search choices (price low to high). That must be a setting because I get that same problem on my laptop and my desktop. This is all beginning to drive me a bit nuts and sucking the enjoyment out of SL. If you need additional information, let me know. There's a game that someone else was playing on my computer and it kept freezing up and crashing. Not sure if that's part of the issue or not. Thanks so much.....

  9. Ok..I have a really really really stupid question.. And no..it's not "How do you get free lindens". :matte-motes-sunglasses-3: Since November, I have been putting my name in on a website called "free linden lottery". Normally I wouldn't care, but it's up to a pretty high amount. I've wondered if anyone else is doing it and if anyone else has won. With all the talk of phishing scams going on, my spider sense is starting to tingle...and nothing else, thank you... Thanks for the help....
  10. Freya Mokusei wrote: Thanks Tex! Of course this is from the Official Gambling Policy. And contrary to my reply above, it does seem that the system proposed by the OP, as described so far, DOES fall afoul of them, since it uses random number generation to determine a winner. Sorry about that, OP! My understanding was that the language of the official policy was different, and defined a winner as someone who profited financially from the game. This is not the case, and it seems ambiguous enough that any player with a wager can be considered a winner, regardless of whether they specifically win the L$. I could have done that...:matte-motes-sunglasses-3: and if, to make mattes worse..LL has a policy about gambling with non-linden items What if no Linden dollars or other "consideration" are accepted or paid out? If entry is truly "free" (as with a promotional sweepstakes), and the game's operator requires no "consideration" or payment from other players or entrants, then that activity will likely be permitted, assuming compliance with all other applicable laws. If the "payout" involves objects that are more akin to novelty objects that cannot readily be converted into Linden dollars, real-world currency or value, then that activity will likely be permitted. I agree with above..I wouldn't chance it. Might be fun on a 1 to 1 basis, but in a whole RP sim, I think it's against TOS. Good luck either way...
  11. I am far from an expert in this field and have no connection to LL... But I can tell you that according to the TOS: "It is a violation of this policy to wager in games in the Second Life® environment operated on Linden Lab servers if such games: Rely on chance or random number generation to determine a winner,OR Rely on the outcome of real-life organized sporting events, AND provide a payout in Linden Dollars (L$)OR Any real-world currency or thing of value." You would have to decide if it's within the policy of LL. As I said, I'm no expert and I realize this didn't help at all...sorry..:matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  12. I agree..your English is fine. If your friends are only responding to say "Hey, what's up?" then they're not really friends. Have you ever tried searching out your interests? Go into the Search function and put in a topic that interests you..find a group and join it. Then maybe post on the group IM or if it's a club or something, just go there. I'm sure you'll find lots of people there who share your interests and are willing to carry on an intellegent conversation. Never understand why people don't respond to IMs...I'm usually carrying on 3 or 4 conversations at a time in SL Good luck
  13. My pleasure...but since I know little to nothing about how the viewers work or what LL is doing, I attribute everything that is going wrong with my viewer to the new upgrade...:matte-motes-sunglasses-3:
  14. Yes, I had the same issue last night. Tried logging on...my entire friends list was gone. Too two additional log ons to get it to come back up. I"m wondering if the whole SSB issue that is on Firestorm's website has anything to do with this? As people have told me..just be patient. It'll all work itself out.

  16. jwenting wrote: any data they get will by definition be false. It will be utterly unverifiable, which means it's useless. So best they get told that in advance, and maybe someday, somewhere, someone will get the message that "online surveys" are rubbish. Why? How would an on-line survey be different then sending out a mass marketing questionaire or doing telephone research? Not attacking..just questioning...
  17. trixp wrote: Thanks for you constructive response! I have been playing in SL, but only for a few months and not as avidly as many others. I've been able to engage in some decent conversation within the game but I guess I wanted to reach a broader audience. I have played now both as a male and as a female, but to be honest I don't think I play enough to notice any severely different reactions to my avatar. I'm going to try what you've suggested, I really do like the idea of going to the same space as both male and female. Thanks! I see the survey has not been a hot topic, getting put on the hot seat for that little link! As stated, my main motive was to instigate a discussion within the thread. I simply posted the survey for people who would like to participate but wanted to remain anonymous. Of course no one is being forced to participate. Although, I do agree, maybe the way I phrased the question came off as a little bit too "give me answers!". trixp I am glad that you appreciate my suggestion and I should apologize for my actions. As you may or may not be aware of, we get a lot of students coming in and asking for all sorts of answers to questions about our time on SL. And I think it is safe to say that most people on the forums are sick of it..that's why you received the reactions that you have. You could have been nice as pie and even offered hundreds of Lindens for us to participate..and you would have gotten the same kind of responses. My pat answer is always to tell the students to go in and find out for themselves. There is nothing better than getting the data first hand. Since you have been in world for a bit, again, I apologize for jumping down your throat before. If only these students would think ahead of time and start getting involved in SL in September..then by March, they wouldn't need us to give them information for their paper. ' Just my opinion..good luck
  18. hi there... My suggestion is the check the groups out. I'm sure there are plenty of metal clubs out there and I'm SURE there are lots of people who enjyo a good beer. Good luck RedMirina wrote: I'M looking for friends who wants to chat at night, I like metal in real life and drink beer
  19. I'm sorry..it hurts when a good friend leaves SL. I've been through it too. I agree with most of the other posts...need to just move on. They may need some space...when they're ready, they'll come back to you. HUGS
  20. Good day My suggestion, as to most people looking for friends, is to go to the search function and put in one of your interests. There are tons of groups out there for people with just about every interest. Once you find a group you like, join it..then post something in the group chat. You're sure to find someone there to talk to and hopefully blossom into a nice friendship. Good luck
  21. I don't find it that shocking. I was using Phoenix for the longest time and wouldn't have changed if I didn't read something on the forums that it's old and unreliable. People are resistant to change..that's why the firestorm viewer (IMO) has a function to make it look like the Phoenix viewer. People will continue to use it until Phoenix tells them that they can't.
  22. jwenting wrote: submitted a dozen responses, all with totally fake and randomly selected data. Best way to get rid of these idiots, show them how utterly unreliable their "surveys" are. I prefer to not answer them at all rather than mess up their data. They worked hard on this...and even if it's the wrong way to go about getting information, it's better not to answer it at all. Having no data is better than having false data IMHO
  23. Staralien wrote: I am going to put in my two cents at the risk of getting grieved over it. I keep hearing and seeing how people refuse to give a dime to LL, and yet you want to use their service for your own pleasure and gain. One reason I am a premium member, is I bought land, and so had to have the premium membership, but also, I feel it is important to help support a service that without any support from people who use it, would eventually have to shut down. It amazes me how many people seem to think LL owes them something for allowing them to use their services for free. I know it isn't perfect, but what is? For that matter, who of any of us is perfect? As for support, I have always gotten support when I needed it. If people have had bad experiences with support, well that is no different than numerous other companies in the world that have employees who don't do their job. I have certainly worked with a few, and dealt with a few. Maybe I have been fortunate to have gotten a good employee the few times I have needed LL support. I don't have to be a premium member, except for having the little plot of mainland I have. Otherwise, I have a rather large property I use for a rental business and pay fees to someone else who is a premium member so I may do so. I make enough so that I have not had to buy lindens since the very beginning, almost a year and a half ago and can pay my land fees to keep my business going. I also have a furniture business that helps support me in SL and pays my premium membership fees. In any case, it is the premium members that help support Second Life (I am sure they have other ways of bringing in income as well, they would have to I would think) and without premium members, there may not be a Second Life for everyone else to log into. I think it is amazing that they continue to offer the service for free to the majority of users, and yet so many seem so unappreciative, are qucik to put LL down for the least little thing, and act like the "world" is owed to them. The fact that they continue to make improvements should be proof enough that they do indeed care about this virtual world we all enjoy. As long as I am able, I will always be a premium member, not for what LL can do for me, but for what I can do for LL in my small way. No Grief....I probably should have phrased it better. My point to the OP was that you don't have to be a premium member to enjoy SL or make Lindens. I don't do it because I don't want to spend the $10US/month to be one...I don't need the land and am not interested in the premium benefits. The Lindens would be nice, but I could just spend the $10 if I wanted a buy them. IMO, if I had to pay for SL I wouldn't play it. I would have missed out on a lot of stuff, but the option wouldn't even be there. I would have passed on it immediately. My apologies if I offended and I certainly did not mean to get off topic.
  24. As you can tell, Nicole, you're going to get a lot of people who are resistant to taking surveys. We get A LOT of people coming in here asking all sorts of questions about our experiences in SL. And so you know, I don't answer the surveys either. I will make a suggestion, if you haven't already. GO INTO SL!! For your experiment...create two Avatars..male and female. Go to the same places...see how people react to you. Then maybe you can have some kind of background before you just pop in here on your second post and start asking everyone questions. (If you have already done so, accept my apologies. I am unable to see how old Avatars are). I've said this before...I would be more likely to respond to something if the OP said something like "Hi..I'm Nicole and I've been playing SL for a few years now and I found...blah blah blah...what is your opinion on that...." Good luck getting more than a few people responding to your survey.
  25. LukasJavier wrote: but what about getting L$? i dont really want a premium account its just getting some cash lol There are a few ways to get Lindens without being a premium member. Firstly, just buy them. Instead of keeping your credit card info on file, just go out and buy them. We figured out that if you don't need the house and don't care about the premium benefits, you can spend the same $10/month and buy the $300L that LL would give you. Secondly, find a job. Depending on your skill level, you could dance or host or open a shop or build stuff. It's up to you. And you don't have to be a premium member to be in SL. I've been here since 2009 and LL has never gotten a dime from me. Good luck.
