I was wondering if someone there can show me how to get started, get everything together, and most importantly, find a job! lol Hi bob... Welcome to SL. It seems like a big old world out there but it's not too difficult to get started. It can be a slow process though, so don't be discouraged. Another way to find people and employment is to check the groups in SL. Just go into the search function at the bottom and type in something that you find interesting...there's lots of groups for lots of things here. Once in there, join the group and see if someone there can push you in the right direction. Good luck....

    Hello

Mylie Foxclaw wrote: heya I'm Mylie. I'd like to have more friends. Everyone seems to be poofing away lately and SL is boring without friends. I like: taking pics, shop, hunt for freebies/sale, play greedy, go to clubs, be a brat and much more. I tend to be a bit shy around people at first but once I get to know people better I would not be so quiet. Hi Mylie... If you haven't done so already, the groups in SL are a good place to meet people. Look up in search for your interest, find a group that fits and send out a group message...or maybe IM someone directly...works for me. Good luck!! Oh...that that is my 100th post..who'd of thunk it??
  3. Argus Collingwood wrote: I will certainly not be entering any more of these since there appears to be a lot of strange stuff happening. We would like some transparency please. Silly question...I know that you can only Kudos once per contest, but do you only get one for the entire day? Also, is it possible that the contest ended? That would explain why the photo is no longer there.
  4. Argus Collingwood wrote: I kudoed a photo and now it is gone.. I want at the very least, my kudo back. I'm waiting..... Probably went with the photo...I'll give you one of mine, I have a few to spare....:matte-motes-sunglasses-1:
  5. Theresa Tennyson wrote: Yes, that's how you show up in SL. All the default avatars are availabe to everyone and are in the Library (under "Clothing" if I remember right.) The "human" ones come with skins that can never become "nude." AO's only come with the avatars that need them to work. Could you go to the welcome hub (if that's the name of the landing point for new avatars) and find them somewhere? I don't ever remember seeing a bus anywhere in my library....
  6. Hey all Just for the hell of it, I went into create a new AV and noticed that SL gives you more options than just creating a human avatar...they have Robots, Vehicles, Vampires and Animals....HOLY CRAP! :matte-motes-sunglasses-1: My question is, when you create one is that how you actually show up in SL? (Yes, I know that sounds stupid...was just wondering). Also, can we older avatars find those skins and shapes? Do they also come with AOs? Would love some of those for myself...or for my "girls"? Thanks....
  7. Did finally watch the video...entertaining. I am impressed that she could construct something that complex....the only thing I ever get when I construct anything is a build up in my stress levels....:matte-motes-sunglasses-1: Got called a geek again with a different topic on the same show. I think the solution is simple...watch the show by myself..
  8. Revlyn Zackerly wrote: This was part of the reason why I disappeared from SL for a while. Some of my friends seemed to have left and being the introvert that I am, I had a tough time making new ones. When I first joined, the places I hung out in had more than a 100 people in them. And now those same places have around 20. That is a problem with SL...people come and go constantly (or so it seems). Most of the people I used to hang out with when I started have disppeared. The place is always changing...you have to just get out and try new things to meet new folks.
  9. Dillon Levenque wrote: While there has been a video shown since your post, featuring a woman who just makes you want to reach out and grab her, I still suspect you enjoyed the comment you quoted. When a female says to a male, "You are SUCH a xxxxx", where xxxxx can be practically anything not positively offensive, the intended response is a large increase of sappiness on the part of the male. You know: goofy smile, warm feeling, that sort of thing. I'd bet it worked. First, let me thank you for telling me how awful that video was...that's 16 minutes of my life saved... Well, after the explaination I shook my head and told her it was her fault for asking in the first place. She's often called me a geek and I don't care..and I suspect, she doesn't either.
  10. RedMirina wrote: Hi I want to make friends here but I Don't have any idea how to, is difficult at the beginning. hi there...welcome to the world. One of the easiest ways (besides the forums) to make friends is to check the various groups out there. Go into search and type in what interests you, then when you find a group that matches, join it..almost all of them are free. Then start a group message or IM someone who's on line. People are usually very nice as long as you are polite to them. Start off by saying "Hi..I saw your name in XYZ group.." and go from there. Good luck!!
  11. Hey there.... Try the groups...see if you can find something that interests you and meet people through there. Good luck

  13. It's easy enough to have something like the BBC say that Nerds and Geeks are cool, but try saying that to non-nerdy types. For example: I was watching an episode of Big Bang Theory last night with my wife (who is not geeky, by the way) and they mentioned the Tardis. She had no idea what it was and asked me about it. As soon as I went through the briefest explaination of what it was, she exhaled deeply and said "You are SUCH a geek.". So, it's easy for us to say these sort of things, but we have to convince the rest of the world that we're not all weird outcasts of society.
  14. Sephina Frostbite wrote: I recently read that post and I have to agree. Its even less then what it was just a few years ago when I started playing. I wish SL would become poplar again. I am trying to get the word out but alas people are getting rid of unnecessary spending. *********************************************************************************************************************************** Unfortunately, when you get media-blitz advertising for things like a new DS system or Call of Duty; SL hasn't got a chance. Then again, how do you advertise something like this on television?? I found out about it through a BDSM website.
  15. ZandriaLo wrote: I completely understand what you're talking about. They either ignore me or act like I'm an idiot for saying hello. I'm like, everyone talks about how friendly people are and how everyone wants to make friends. We've all had that problem, which is why I don't do the club thing anymore. The only people who usually say hello are the girls working there and they tend to ignore you if you're not tipping.
  16. ZandriaLo wrote: So obvs by the subject name I'm new here. I guess like a lot of people I'm having a hard time figuring everything out and I feel like an idiot because everyone talks about how easy it is to make friends here, but I seem to be having trouble. I know it's ridiculous to feel shy and nervous when it's a virtual world, but I'm like this in real life and I'm still afraid of rejection so it takes a lot for me to get up the courage to talk to people. Any advice on making friends for a newbie? And if you wanna be friends, lemme know Hi Zandria... First welcome to SL. It may seem like a big scary world out there, but it's really not. My suggestion is to go into search and find things that you're interested in...is it music? dancing? There are plenty of groups out there and lots of people in the groups...go out and look for them. When you find the group, send out a message or contact the moderator. Dont' be shy..no one is going to bite your head off for trying to say hello. Be polite and you'll be fine. Good luck!!!
  17. QtJanellB wrote: I went to a mall, and I apparently accepted a notification then my avatar started dancing (and does not look good)..I tried to teleport to make it stop but it didn't. I have Firestorm and SL..any thoughts..I look like a fool. There are items that will stop animations. I have a RED ROSE STOP AMINIATIONS item in my inventory. when I start dancing like a fool, I use it.
  18. I do it occasionally... But I guess I shouldn't complain...I only have 4000 in my inventory (compared to the 20 or 30 THOUSAND) everyone else seems to have...:matte-motes-sunglasses-1:
  19. purplesponge wrote: As the title says, i have no idea what i'm doing, have no friends, and all i can do is walk around (oh and i learnt how to fly) please someone help!! Welcome to the world, Purple What is it that you like to do?? Are you into Books? Movies? Music? Check the groups in world. There are lots of different groups for lots of different acitivities. You can join, then maybe say hello in the group chat...or IM the moderator; see if there is anything going on. It's a great way to meet people who have similar interests. Good Luck!!
  20. Ok....now provided I did that right (which is no guarentee) how can you delete old posts?
  21. Alazarin Mondrian wrote: That's quite a shopping list. Gambling & banking aren't coming back to SL for the forseeable future. Gambling, because there's RL legislation that gets in the way and as for banking, two words: Ginko Financial. We do have memories, y'know. Wow..I always wondered why there were no banks in SL. I've been here (in various AVs) since 2008, so I never heard about this. Thanks for the information...very interesting.
  22. Quinn Morani wrote: Do you mean on your forum profile page under "Recent Posts"? I agree that it would be very helpful to see just a list of the threads I had responded to, rather than the individual posts I have made to those threads. That would make it so much easier to navigate back to the conversations I'm participating in to check for replies. If someone else knows of a good way to do this, I want the answer too! Yes....my apologies for not being clear. That is exactly what I meant
  23. This may seem a silly question, but I was wondering about posts on the forum. Every time you reply to a thread, it adds another post to your list of recent posts. I don't respond that much, but at the moment I have 4 pages of stuff. Does anyone know if there is a way to combine them together or to delete older posts? Would make it a lot easier to keep track of. I apologize if this isn't the right forum to post this. Thank you
  24. Phoenix has a button that says "Search" on the bottom...they type what you're looking for. Also, don't forget about Marketplace. I know Leia mentioned that, but when you find something you like, there is usually a link to the actual store somewhere in the ad.
