I can't seem to find lasting friends in-world and I would really like to have people to hang with and talk to on the regular. Come talk to me like....nao! Welcome to SL. I don't know if anyone suggested it but there are lots of ways to meet people here inworld. One way I always recommend is to check the groups. What are you interested in? There should be a group out there to whet your appetite. When you're in...contact the moderator or send a group IM. There should be some people in there willing to chat and share interests with you. Don't be shy..just jump right in (be polite, of course) and just do it!:matte-motes-sunglasses-1: Good luck

  3. With all the advice about new viewers, thought I'd start with Firestorm. The issue that I'm having is with chat. When I go into the IMs, it shows previous conversations. I would like those not to show when I log in. Does anyone know how to fix that? Thanks
  4. OW!!! OW!! OW!!! Another aneurysm!! http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/awesome-survey-you-def-want-to-do/m-p/1751233#M84963 :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:
  5. Thanks Pussycat... Based on your statement, I'm trying Firestorm. And although it's taking a bit of getting used to...considering it and Phoenix are made by the same company, I'm likin' it! Thanks for the advise.
  6. OMG...U R so Awesom..I luv this. Were R U? Add me gurly.....LOL LOL LOL!! Hold on...I think I just had an an aneurysm.... OW!! MY BRAIN HURTS!!! :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:
  7. Wanda Wizenheim wrote: Hi friends, I am really new to SL so excuse any newbie-ness! I am consistently amazed by the beautiful landscapes I come across in my flights, and would like to hear your personal thoughts on what these spaces mean to you--in terms of happiness, art, peace, fun, etc. Basically, I'm interested in learning about your most favorite place(s) in Second Life. If you're up for a short interview, please let me know! Thank you. -WW I wouldn't say "interview" right now. With the amount of students asking residents for their opinions for their term papers, it will turn people off....
  8. Jerry00Devou wrote: I just want to try a third party viewer, what do you advice me ? Personally, I like Phoenix. I think the controls are easy to use and it's pretty user friendly for the most part. Someone did mention in an earlier post that it's old technology. I hear good things about Firestorm too.
  9. Ftwist wrote: Thank you for taking the time to reply Tex. What scenarios do you play out? Things you can't do normally because it is frowned upon? Would you be able to enlighten me to the "RL Reprecussions" you may have faced if you did these things in RL? IM me inworld sometime. Too much to chat about here in the forums.
  10. Ftwist wrote: How has SL affected your life? Has it been for the better or for the worse? Have you made friends in SL while losing friends in 'the real world'? We tell each other our stories here and try to offer advice Sorry to be a pain in the a** but this is the third student working on a paper that's contacted us in the past few days. Would really be nice if you all got together, set up a website and pulled your answers from there... And I apologize for being snippy..just tired of answering these questions. OK..now that I've had a chance to calm down and breathe.... SL has affected my life by being able to play out senerios and RP that I could never do in SL. I believe it has been for the better, as it gets fantasies out in the "open" without any kind of RL reprecussions. I have also made a lot of friends here that I keep in touch with through email/FB. Haven't lost any real friends. I am not on constantly..only in the evenings. I still communicate and have wonderful relationships with my wife and son. Sorry about before and I hope that helps.
  11. ChaosKriz wrote: Im new to sl and its kinda boring with out friends I tend to get along with Punk people goth people rocker people I get along with girls more but Guy or Girl is fine to me. Hi there...welcome to SL My suggestion to you would be to look into the groups inworld. Since you mentioned Punk and Goth, look for groups that have that in their description. I'm sure you can find tons of people to hang out with. Good luck
  12. SweetFurry wrote: SL hails itself as a social media networking kind of place - i guess not much different to say facebook twitter or the like cept its a little more indepth than just text on a screen ... so why can we not have a search for friends by email so we can get together within SL -> just like facebook can search for your friends by email makes things so much faster and easier Mostly because people want their privacy. I don't give out my email address to anyone except my close SL friends..don't need someone I just met stalking me to find out my personal information...or visa versa.
  13. Beggar bots..that is terrible In my day, we did our beggin' in person..not from some new fangled machine thingie.... *hikes my pants up past my waist and storms off* :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:
  14. Wonderings wrote: Wow, thank you everyone! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that has trouble at first. You're all loads of help. I'm going to try the Phoenix viewer Good idea. I like Phoenix...much better than the SL viewer. Haven't used Firestorm though.
  15. I do hope this is a legitimate research paper, although I don't know what you could get out of this if it wasn't...people's names..spam them inworld??? Being a former marketing major (too many lifetimes ago to remember)..here are my answers to your questions. 1. How long have you been playing second life? I started my first account in February 2008...my second in November 2009. 2. How often do you play second life? I am inworld almost every weekday(not as much on the weekends)...usually for about 3-4 hours per day. 3. Why did you begin playing second life? Initially, I found out about it from an adult website that I was a member of. I thought it would be fun to expand on that fetish in a fantasy world. 4. What do you gain from second life that you can’t get from reality? Mostly the ability to act out fantasies that I would be unable to do in real life and to find likeminded people..which I have had the good fortune to do.
  16. Welcome to SL, Wonder... Yes..the world can seem like a big scary place...there's so many things to do and see. Don't let it overwhelm you. I've been here since 2009 and it can take a while to get your feet wet. I agree with the rest of the suggestions...join some groups (and post IMs or send messages saying hello), check the newbie hubs and the tutorials. Another suggestion is when you're out and about, check out people's profiles...some have links to some really neat places. Don't just hit dance clubs or strip joints..there's no one to meet there. Good luck. If you're desperate for help ( :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:), you can send me an IM.
  17. Sephina Frostbite wrote: Are you new looking for a friend? Need help with learning the basics of SL? Bored and need some one to talk to.. Well IM me. I am always up for meeting new people and I am newbie friendly. I have been sl for more then 2 years. Just stop by and say Hi. Well done, Sephina. It's nice to have someone to go to when you're new..and especially someone who has been around a while and not looking for anything in return. :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:
  18. Finally had the time to play with some of the new avatars...they're really pretty neat. It doesn't appear as if you need anything special to make them work properly..played with a few of the cars and seems to move pretty smoothly. If you're looking for a change of pace, it's not a bad way to spend some time. Just to let you know....
  19. Chrina wrote: I'm not able to use the search function in the game. I've tried it on both my accounts and cannot get it to work. Tried support, but they were useless even to then giving me a random message that had nothing to do with what we were talking about. When I go to the search function, all it shows is a grey box. My computer is WAY advanced (usually people blame it on the computer) it's a MSI GT70 gaming laptop. Everything should be up to date. The only thing I can think of is maybe there's something in the preferences that not allowing you to search. Check the settings in there.
  20. SeraphinaNoir wrote: I'm pretty new to SL and I am having a hard time making friends. I'm not n00bish in anyway, so worry not about your reputation and being labeled as a n00b-lover. I'm just bored and thus far the only place that's been sort of entertaining is that bloodlines place. No, you can't bite me, claw me, or whatever. I'm still not sure how the whole SL soul thing works and I'm not about to give it way for a slice of pie. Maybe a cupcake or a really tasty muffin though....*drools* Anyways, I'm 25, from the states, and on SL in the evenings mainly. I love to role play, shop, watch movies, hang around, be silly, have deep conversations, flirt, dance, etc.... Care to play with me? :smileyvery-happy: hi Seraphina...welcome to SL. Since you mentioned all those fun things you like to do, I would suggest checking for them through the groups. There's lots of people here who are interested in the same things you are and that should give you an opportunity to meet more of them. Good luck
  21. Argus Collingwood wrote: Agreed Caity... it would be so easy for them to send at the very least a reason to you and Bella why your photos were removed. But I still want my kudo credit..lol YOU...YOU...YOU.... It's all about YOU isn't it, Argus??? *heavy sigh!!* :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:
  22. Great post..the story of Thanksgiving in seven paragraphs. But..you forgot the two most important parts...Turkey (although you mentioned a feast) and FOOTBALL!!! :matte-motes-sunglasses-1: Happy Turkey Day to all who celebrate and Happy Thursday to those who don't...
  23. Linden Lab wrote: Hello all, Just a note that potential winning entries are reviewed and winners are determined based on adherence to the guidelines and rules of the contest. Thank you! Oh my gosh...they do exist.. Maybe there is a Santa Claus and Easter Bunny after all....(now, watch my account get mysteriously deleted :matte-motes-sunglasses-1:)
  24. unfortunately, I suppose, we need to take what the Lindens do with a grain of salt... just go on with our lives in SL and forget that they even exist.
  25. I don't know if it still exists, but there used to be Free Apartments in SL. I had one for a while..the problem is that the owners will often just convert the land to something else to make money on it. Go into a search and see what you can find. Sometimes schools will offer housing if you join their group and become a student or things like that. Good luck
