  1. Thank you LoveAngeL for the feedback. I guess I will just have to keep both email accounts active to receive any important emails.
  2. Recently, I changed my Internet email address. I have used my Second Life Dashboard to update my contact details to the new email address and I can confirm that the software acknowledges it, because my offline IMs are sent to the new address. However, when I carry out transactions on the Marketplace, all emails regarding these transactions are sent to my old email account. In an attempt to get to the root of the problem, I went to the "My account" settings in the Marketplace software and found that the displayed email address is incorrectly shown as my old email address. In the "My account" section of the Marketplace software there is a hyperlink that enables you to update your email address. When I follow this hyperlink, it leads to my Dashboard, where my email is displayed correctly. Strangely, it seems that the Marketplace software won't acknowledge that the Second Life dashboard has updated my email account. To try and solve this problem I tried to use the hyperlink from the Marketplace software to update my email but when I do this, the Marketplace software still displays the wrong email address. Apart from raising a ticket (which I don't really wish to do for such a petty error) is there anything else I could try?
  3. Try searching "Parent & Kids" on the Second Life Marketplace. There are HUDs that allow you to carry your child (or be carried by an adult) and do a lot more besides. Warning, some of the HUDs must be bought by the child only and not the parent - read the merchant listing carefully before you purchase. Good luck.
  4. That's a nice idea to be positive rather than come onto the these boards to moan.
  5. Yes, I have often seen my avatar do wierd things and, when I apologise to people around me, they tell me that nothing abnormal is happening at their end. Sometimes we exchange screen shots and the image that I see on my screen is so very different to that what those around me see. I just put it down to lag at my end. Usually the problem lasts only for that login.
  6. Try searching for "Skin shape grandma"
  7. First of all, just be patient. The software for the marketplace is often unreliable and it may take anything from a few minutes up to an hour for the item to arrive. If after a few hours, the item has not arrived, just go to the Marketplace site and click on "My Account" under "My Marketplace" at the very top of the screen. You can see here if you have been billed or not by going to "Order History" on the left hand side of the screen. If you haven't been billed, it will explain that the money has been refunded and a payment of zero will be shown. The on screen notes will leave you in doubt of whether you have been billed or not. If you have not been billed, you may want to make a second attempt at buying the product. If you have been billed, simply send the merchant a notecard inworld. (A notecard is more reliable than an instant message, as instant messages are often capped for merchants who receive a lot of correspondence.) Make sure that your notecard is polite and contains details of the failed transaction. Most merchants will be very willing to resend the item. Please give them a day or two to reply - don't expect an answer within minutes. You must remember that merchants are no different to you and do not sit by their computers at all hours of the day. One final word, to reduce the chances of the problem occurring again, remember not to buy multiple items at the same time, as this may increase the chance of causing the software to fail. It's safer to buy one object at a time.

Finally, when the matter has been resolved, don't forget to write a few words of praise in the "Review" of the item. This will help the merchant greatly and can be an appropriate way of saying thank you for their efforts.
  9. If you were paying thousands of Lindens each week for a plot of land, how would you feel if your neighbour was squatting for free?
  10. By far, the easiest and more cost effective way of gaining money is for your "human" to buy it for you. By doing an hour of overtime your "human" will have earnt ten-hundred times more than your "avatar" can possibly dream of. Of course, there are other reasons to want a job - personally, my avatar works for a sense of personal worth and to help with inworld conversations. If you are coming onto Second Life to make a small fortune, don't bother as you can earn substantially more by mowing lawns, washing cars or doing some other menial work in real life.
  11. You have produced some VERY comprehensive notes. The inclusion of photographs makes the instructions easier to follow. Well done.
  12. Sometimes, when you use control+alt+t the screen can become swamped in a red haze of emitted particles. If this is the case, go into edit mode by right clicking on any object and selecting "edit" then minimise the edit window, then draw a lasso on your screen using the left mouse button in the vague direction of the fart emitter until you highlight it. Finally take it into your inventory.
  13. I have this cat too. In fact, I bought several of them! The maker has made two basic versions; one sitting cat and one laying cat. I found that the laying cat "balls" badly but the sitting cat does not. In the end, I packed the laying cat at away in my inventory and left the sitting cat out inworld. If you really love this cat as much as I do, you may want to consider buying the sitting version instead - perhaps that may assist. It "solved" the problem for me.
  14. If the box is there for you and you alone, have you thought of wearing it as a HUD on your screen? That way, you could view it all the time whilst keeping your avatar clear of clutter.
  15. Cheaper still, look in the "library" section of your inventory. There are many free (but basic) avatar sets there that can be used at no charge.
  16. I agree. I access Second Life on a small laptop. If I chat using IMs, it is an additional window cluttering my screen and blocking my view of my environment. That is why I prefer using local chat.
  17. Do a vast number of people really make a lot of real money through the renting of land? Some users that I have spoken to need to rent at least half their plots before they even break even - I have rarely seen a sim of theirs fully rented. One friend of mine rented plots out at cost price, simply as a service to his friends. I, once, worked with a friend to try and rent plots. Despite offering low value rentals, we failed to attract sufficient avatars to even recover our initial investment. I am guessing that many landlords adopt the role simply for the enjoyment factor of being a landlord, others struggle to make even a small profit. I am guessing that there are only a handful of landlords who find this a profitable source of investment.
  18. If this is a copiable item, you can simply rez another version (one that you have not changed the texture on.) Other than that, I do not know of any way to revert to the original texture (apart from writing to the merchant and requesting a replacement or a copy of the texture.) In all honesty, it would be petty and time-wasting to contact a merchant because (if you look at this from their point of view) they may be rightly reluctant to assist. You may like to know that I have changed the texture of a non-copiable item and then on second thoughts, decided that my edit was not as good as I thought. My solution was to browse the internet using Google images and find a satisfactory alternative and upload that to my inventory as a placement.
  19. I'm sorry but this is something that you will have to "take on the chin" and move on. Being a horse breeder, there are often times when I have to transfer expensive horses and bundles to others. If I am next to someone and no one is near, the best method is to rez the item on the ground and set it to zero Lindens. Then they can buy it and take it. At other times, I simply IM the user first of all and tell them know that I intend to pass an item and then I wait till I get a confirmation that they are ready to receive it before I transfer.
  20. I sympathise with your friend - the sim must be an unbearable place to live now. I spent many happy months at one sim until a club opened up nearby and then the lag increased so dramatically - I was unable to rez even a simple prim. Sadly I lost a lot of inventory when I tried to pick up my items and leave, on the day of my departure, as I was unable to pick up a prim containing many inventory pieces. Therefore, I can sympathise with your friend if they are adjacent to three clubs - the lag must be dreadful. If they do decide to move, all I can suggest is that they choose the time of their departure as carefully as possible to avoid times of high traffic (and high lag) as it would be awful for the same problem to occur to them.
  21. Don't worry - try again. You right-clicked rather than left-clicked. It's an easy mistake to make! Locate the garlic necklace in your inventory and select "wear" Next, left-click on the necklace and a blue menu will appear. Finally, select "activate" to remove your details from the database.
  22. Have you tried going to "Merchant Home" and then to "Magic Box Status" - weirdly the link leads back to the old XStreet software but don't let that put you off. Finally, you need to locate the name of your magicbox on the left hand side (near the bottom of the screen, under the heading of "Registered severs") and then click on "Remove" in order to delete the redundant magicBox - it could be that the software is trying to communicate with your old magicbox and so is getting confused that it is no longer present inworld.
  23. Speaking as a man, I can confirm that not all men find that "big is beautiful" - I get fed up with the number of grossly "top heavy" females I see on Second Life and I wonder who it is that finds this size so attractive! Likewise, there appear to be a similar number of men with overtly larger than normal private areas - sometimes to the point of being utterly ridiculous.
  24. If it is a folder that you have created, you may want to use the "search" to find it. Often, in my haste, I have accidentally picked up and dragged a folder of mine into a second folder. It's so easy to click fractionally longer than you intended and then to drop your folder into a second miscellaneous folder by accident! I know, I have done it many times.
  25. I love the colours in the sky behind. It looks really imposing and dramatic!
