What exactly does SL have over every other platform?
Vanity Fair replied to Bree Giffen's topic in General Discussion Forum
In a word, Second Life has LONGEVITY. After 15 years it is still the most popular and financially successful virtual world out there. And it's because so many people have so much invested in the platform that they stay put, instead of starting over again somewhere else.- 20 replies

I was wondering if I should, in preparation, shut down my existing Linden Home (512 metres squared), for these new 1024 metres squared plots of land. Is there a timeline for this?

Me! ME!!!! I can't wait to upgrade my old Linden Home with one of these!!!

Analog Dog still has many attractive flexi hairstyles, including new releases.

guide ⭐ Are you looking for a job? The newbie guide thread (v0.1)
Vanity Fair replied to Bebe Bunny's topic in Inworld Employment
Thank you! This is fantastic and I will be putting in a link to this informative post from my blog (Google "ryan schultz blog" and you'll find it easily). One piece of advice that I do want to give to those poor newbies who despair of ever being able to move from a classic system avatar to mesh (which is a requirement of many SL public-service type jobs lately like host, DJ, customer service rep, model, escort, etc.), is that there are numerous free or inexpensive options for mesh heads and bodies for both male and female avatars. I have pulled together all the info I have on free and inexpensive mesh heads and bodies into one blogpost, which I update regularly: https://ryanschultz.com/2018/09/24/second-life-steals-deals-and-freebies-free-mesh-heads-and-bodies-for-female-second-life-avatars/ If you are looking for male avatars, your options are fewer but still good: https://ryanschultz.com/2018/10/04/second-life-steals-deals-and-freebies-free-and-inexpensive-mesh-heads-and-bodies-for-male-second-life-avatars/ If the job you are looking for requires a modern, mesh avatar you can actually do that WITHOUT spending a fortune. Really, it's true! You should also know that Altamura is offering free, fully-featured Romeo and Juliet full-body mesh avatars for the cost of only the L$50 Altamura group join fee, plus L$1 to pay the vendor (you get the Linden dollar back). Check my blog for more details including pictures, they are probably your best bet for a quality inexpensive mesh avatar if you are just starting out. But this deal ends Feb. 27th, so act soon!- 23 replies

If you missed the Valentine’s-Day-only Altamura group gifts of the Romeo and Juliet full-body mesh avatars and were cursing your bad luck, well, guess what?? THEY'RE BACK, but only between now and February 27th, 2019!! These are not the usual sort of freebie Altamura full-body (i..e head and body) mesh avatar which I have often blogged about before, which is limited to one skin tone and where you cannot remove the head. These are fully-featured, fully-adjustable, Omega-compatible mesh bodies, with Bento heads and Bento hands! Romeo comes in 4 skin tones and Juliet comes in 8 skin tones. Romeo and Juliet are easily the equivalent of what you would usually spend L$4,899 on at the Altamura store (or L$7,750 if you spring for the standard-issue Maitreya Lara mesh body and a Catwa Bento head, and that’s before you buy skin appliers). All this is yours for just the group join fee of L$50 to join the Altamura Design/Mesh Avatars group, which is less than 1% of the Maitreya/Catwa combination. (You pay the vendor L$1 and it gets refunded immediately.) Needless to say, THIS IS AN ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING DEAL WHICH YOU SHOULD NOT PASS UP. More details here: https://ryanschultz.com/2019/02/22/altamura-romeo-and-juliet-full-body-mesh-avatars-are-again-available-but-only-until-february-27th/

Second Life VS VRChat [Video Infographics]
Vanity Fair replied to lucagrabacr's topic in Machinima Forum
Yes of course you can. If you can create a custom avatar in VRChat it can be pretty much anything you want it to be. There is also a thriving business of people making custom VRChat avatars for other people: https://ryanschultz.com/2018/04/27/vrchat/ -
If you don't have a lot of money to spend, here is my blogpost listing all the free and inexpensive mesh heads and bodies for female avatars, just in case you need it (I try to keep it updated): https://ryanschultz.com/2018/09/24/second-life-steals-deals-and-freebies-free-mesh-heads-and-bodies-for-female-second-life-avatars/

Yesterday evening I lost all my inventory!
Vanity Fair replied to Vanity Fair's question in Inventory
I filed a ticket and someone got back to me. My problem is now fixed! -
I have a serious problem with this alt account. I was trying on a dress and Second Life was being balky so I tried it from my home location and it still didn't work. I signed out, and when I signed back in, ALL OF MY INVENTORY IS GONE! I tired using the missing inventory instruction page on the Firestorm Viewer website, deleting my .gz cache and then trying to reload it, but my inventory is all gone except for the default avatar items. Completely wiped clean! I've never had this happen to me before and I've been using SL for years and years. What do I do now? I tired loading one or two of the default avatars and it looks as through I still have a full head and body alpha on, even though it's not showing in my inventory. HELP!!!!

New approaches to big virtual worlds
Vanity Fair replied to animats's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
Interesting observations, thank you! I can report that Community Garden has been bought out by another virtual world called Somnium Space: https://ryanschultz.com/2018/10/29/somnium-space-acquires-community-garden-announces-refund-program-for-metaworld-investors/ -
The 10th Advent gift under the Christmas tree turns out to be an Altamura Omega full-body skin applier HUD, in all the Altamura skintones! You have a choice of with brows or browless (so you can apply your own Omega eyebrows): What this means is that you can now match your Leila Bento mesh head to literally any Altamura body! In the picture above, I am wearing the Leila head with all the default makeup removed, and with the third Baltic Sea skintone applied. I am wearing the head with the free Altamura Jenny mesh body I had picked up at the Women Only Hunt back in 2017 (not the free version you can pick up now at the Freebie Megastore at London City; that version, unfortunately, does not let you remove the head). Frankly, I was a little surprised that this was not part of the Advent gift on the 8th day. But I now see they are spreading out the gifts over several days. So be sure to drop by and pick up gift #10 to use with your Leila head!

Yes, sorry I forgot to mention that! Here is what the Altamura Leila head looks like with all the default makeup removed, the free LAQ Joline Omega skin applied, and a dollarbie Omega lipstick by Poema added, with a Maitreya Lara body (LAQ body appliers to match the LAQ skintones are L$300 per tone): Looking very good!
