  1. I am posting this here mostly because I think it is pretty interesting to mesh makers AND could possibly have some ties to Sansar (I know not - I am not there) since we know so little about mesh uploading at the moment. New code is coming out in Opensim which is going to require actual physics models for uploading (clapping). This will break a lot of old content including ANY content made with planes physics. Now happily I have always used cube physics because -- as I remember -- Drongel showed me how. He may also have mentioned alternatives but four years ago any method that would work was fine with me. I personally think it would be a good thing if physics models were required in SL. I see a lot of items that were probably uploaded with 'lowest" setting. I should NOT be able to walk through a dresser. Anyway, just some news from the hinterlands. PS. The devs by the way had the advice to "just reupload". Yeah, right. OK if it is said dresser. Not so good for houses and other more complex items. On the positive side having to have an actual physics mesh would cut down on the folks uploading mesh that they have not made (yes, I know that is against the TOS but we know it happens).
  2. It seems like there could be a lot of possibilities after nine years . Did you try choosing a new avatar from the library? Avatar > Choose Avatar (in Firestorm). I think there is a button on the side in the Linden viewer and sure it is obvious in the menu. You could also go to Avatar Health and Reset your avatar to the default. Good luck. Sure there will be other suggestions.
  3. I can't help you with your mesh software issues but as I long time blogger I CAN say that VERY FEW designers are designing for TMP -- meaning that when I see it in a group of mesh body styles I am surprised. It was one of the very first brands with a mesh body and had plenty of issues at the outset -- you may know that. So it could easily be that it is NOT you . I personally don't know anyone using that body, so unless you have a real reason to design for it, one of the more popular bodies might be a place to spend your time. And of course you may already have the other bodies covered - LOL. Good luck solving your problems. You might want to contact TMP for more info.
  4. Likely you know all this: Face numbers are determined by the number of materials. So if you have a six sided cube, you wanted a different inworld material on you would select each face in your 3D program and assign a separate material to that face. You can have up to eight materials on one mesh object. Faces are numbered 0-5 in SL with -1 being "all faces". If you can change the faces manually in world then you should be able to change them with a script. Perhaps it is your script?
  5. This was to the OP: I have been in many many non-profit events and they have all (for a general booth - not a sponsor) been in the $1000 to $2500 range. Some monthly venues are in that same range - some less. The profits in the non-profit events are generally lower (judging by my sales and what other retailers have told me) than the monthlies (ones listed in Serephim). Folks typically do those events in part because they want to help the charity. And to Trinity: The SOS event you speak of turned OUT to be free, but in the beginning for quite awhile it was $3000 AND every item needed to be in vendors. That did not work for me (and apparently lots of other creators) since they changed that ^^. I didn't hear about the change until almost opening when a friend told me she had joined and I commented about ALL the vendors (which I hate). I then found out about the revised system.
  6. Anaiya Ahren wrote: Here is an application form to one of these big commercial events I guess some events don't need more merchants and are over booked in which case they've probably no good reason to share information about their business model with events that do have room to accept applicants. Also, it's very possible they're charging differrent merchants different rates for various reasons and it might be prudent to be discrete about that. It makes a lot of sense that if X merchant always increases attendence at an event that you'd encourage them to participate and consider any discount you give to get them there to be an advertising cost. I doubt seriously that many (or any) event organizers are charging less to some than others. Folks talk and compare and that would be a VERY bad practice as word would could get around quickly. Most events have the cost on the sign up form when you fill that out. So anyone getting to the form (often private I agree) will see the costs. Other venues you buy your spot via buying prims or kiosks themselves and they are all out there for anyone to see. I have also filled in at the last minute and wasn't given any discount . So again, supposition is a dangerous thing.
  7. I said zero to several thousand lindens. I stick by that . Not all venues pay for the teir totally in this manner. Some venues are only open a short time. Some venue owners apparently ENJOY the process of being an event coordinator and do it for fun. NOT ALL certainly as I have done the math and seen the profit on some. Several venues have LEVELS of payment (some for placement by the entrance, some for larger areas) and those of course go for more money. My statement was for a "general" booth -- which in your later example is $3500. Some of my favorite and very popular venues (I wasn't in them, just blogging then - actually in a couple now that I think on it) were free for merchants. Some have very expensive costs due to large LARGE areas given (home and garden) so there is a big range. PS. I went back and looked at some of the places that I knew had open registration forms and they were still there and still in the low thousands range. Not going to link to them. Folks can do their own homework.

I may have used the wrong word there (English is not my main lagnuage after all) but what I meant with "flashy" was the kind of items that look great on a picture and at first sight but once you take it home and rez it, it turns out to be so laggy and/or poor LOD you just can't use it. (And just to make this absolutely clear: I see nothing wrong with such gacha collectables. They are fun to collect, some of them are real works of art on their own and .. why not? SL is supposed to be fun. The problems only arise when people start to confuse these things with the rugged, solid, low lag components you need to build an effective complete scene in SL.) OK. Yes Flashy is the wrong word for that LOL. Flashy "to me" means attention getting ala Las Vegas showgirls, bright neon light, high saturated colors etc. Well one good thing about venues is that most let you see the items up close and personal. You can check the LODs yourself and the land impact etc. (this is not gachas in most cases, but most of the other venues going on). Wearables most often (and sometimes mandetorily) have demos which of course everyone SHOULD try before purchasing. And who would have guessed English wasn't your first language! *wink*. These items are all 1 or 2 land impact and you can see them from the entrance point (quite aways across the sim) on LOD2 (not that birdcage - just no way for me anyway). One thing good about the big venues is that it encourages designers to make good LODS (or at least I haven't seen too many AWFUL ones ). I really wonder about folks buying things from the Marketplace without checking out the demo. I have demos of most things at my inworld shop and link to that from the Marketplace as personally "I" always want to see something inworld if at all possible.
  9. Beethros is indeed correct. Oddly you don't actually have to OWN land to get billed for it. That wasn't how it was long ago but has been that way for several years. Also if you downgrade from premium and give up your 512 lot you will be billed $5 for that last month. So you need to get rid of your land AT LEAST a month before you downgrade. The payment is on your billing cycle, not monthly and you don't actually SEE that if you are on a 512 "free" lot Tricky.
  10. If your mesh is very dense or has modeling issues (too many vertices - unoptimized or even bad topology) then this can definitely happen. The fact that a single piece can upload but not the joined model certainly hints at this as a possibility for the problem. You might want to post a screenshot of your model to give folks more to go on. And just in case this is a chain made from a sculpt turned into mesh via software, that is a "deadly" process LOL. I tried some in Opensim and even with my very hefty computer it took forever and when they did get inworld they were VERY bad for the sim. There were actually some jewelry meshes that were crashing sims continuously. I just deleted all of mine and called it a bad experiment. Also, folks with computers that are borderline for SL usage seem to have sometimes have issues with uploading.
  11. Actually to be more precise it is not "this month" it is "your billing cycle" which begins on the first day that you bought mainland. Hence it is very easy to get charged for land you are not using (and yes, you do pay on the previous month's holdings) since most older folks do not remember when they first bought land if they have stopped owning land and then bought land again . It can be messy. You will also pay $5 US for a 512 lot if you give up premium status. This UNLESS you give up your land a month (your billing cycle time) before you give up your premium status. So planning WAY ahead is a good thing. This has happened to a few friends of mine. I doubt it has changed. Also note that one called billing to find out how this all worked and got completely wrong answers . Sooooooo --- Good luck to us all. I rent now. Cheaper and easier. Just general info for folks since it is very confusing. I agree. PS. And yes, I concur you do need to lower your tier charge in your backend account page on the web. Someone I know got stuck with this too. That was not the case LONG ago, but has been valid for many years. So be sure and do that if you aren't buying another sim.
  12. That better quality at the same LI is true in some situations but not in all. As I mentioned in my post, there are certainly creators that could up the LOD settings with no land impact increase. BUT at the same time --- and I have done extensive tests on my objects, it is not always the case. So we will have to agree to disagree. It likely depends on what you are making, how it is made. .
  13. The only real way to get a perfect match is to buy a skin that comes with the applier for your mesh. You can try and get a close match from the body to head but this will never happen perfectly as the texture for the head was not made to coordinate with the body. Be sure and TEST the APPLIERS before you buy. There is no real way to keep your old (favorite skin) and get the body to match. If you are really attached to your face skin then finding a nice color change collar necklace would be your best bet. Good luck
  14. Just wanted to mention that some sims do not allow folks to take photos for commercial use -- just in case that was your aim. So be sure an read the info in the land tab if you plan to sell (or sometimes even give away) anything you make with photos taken on those sims. There was a big deal about this a few years ago and there is a machinima and photo policy (part of the terms of service) that you might want to reread. If it is just for your use, then I suspect you should be fine. Good luck. I have made surrounds inworld just by taking several photos and then editing them in graphics software. No tricks but it takes awhile to get the photos correctly aligned for sure.
  15. I have said my piece on this a few times, but want to go along with Rolig's 1.25 is too low statement - my reasoning being that going with the lowest common denominator is not the fairest or wisest choice IMHO. I am not the best mesh maker on the grid, but after four years of about 6 hours a day I am getting fairly proficient; every day I learn a little more. There are indeed some top selling mesh makers that have horrible LODs; I concur. Not only are they horrible, they COULD EASILY be better without increasing the land impact (I have checked that "more" tab *wink* so I am puzzled why they don't make things better). I can only assume that they always go with the defaults on the uploader -- which works fairly well with large builds and not so much with smaller things. But all that said, people do have a choice how they design. I have chosen to aim for very good viewing at LOD2. Oftentimes things look good at LOD 1.25. BUT, I am not going to choose higher land impact over LOD1 viewing greatness. I personally feel that is unfair to the folks that actually have purchased good computers so that they can enjoy Second Life as it can be experienced. Those folks would then be penalized with high land impact. Since I am doing venues now, I am perhaps a bit in the overkill camp LOD wise as I don't want my "lamp" to fall apart even at an unreasonably long distance -- since folks will be seeing it from across the event area. At the same time, I am not featuring products with faulty LODs on my blog. And to the designers to choose to produce for LOD4 setting folks? Well there obviously is a market there. I ran on LOD4 for many many years before turning down my setting. My point is that there are many individual answers about LOD choice and if a creator decides to make things for LOD3 or 4 folks KNOWINGLY -- then that is their choice. We do have freedom in our virtual world. But whether one uses the uploader or makes their own LODs, TESTING is the most important final step. The beta grid is your friend. Keep trying models or settings until you are happy with the results. Don't just assume things will be good by letting the defaults on the uploader rule. And if you are a consumer, buy from the folks whose products look good to you at whatever LOD setting you choose. It's a easy as that. We do have inworld stores still - LOL. We each have our own answer about designing with LODs in mind. There isn't only ONE correct answer.
  16. I wrote about this topic in another thread earlier in the week or maybe weekend saying that it hasn't affected me. In some ways that was completely true THEN as I did go to the marketplace and check one of my top sellers and it was still on page one. Today after three days of almost not there sales (honestly the worst day I can remember in YEARS) I went and that item was on about page five. The demo which usually shows up high in the rankings was absent. I have a couple of theories on this. The folks moving to the top of the listings could be doing a better job with search terms OR they could be manipulating by cleverness (hey, that's why they call them exploits ). Potential customers were not searching for my items by type (surround, camera etc) but were perusing the Marketplace STORE by looking up the company or my avatar name. This would be likely if they liked items they saw in an event venue. In the time before -- when things were still normal from my outlook -- there were venues going on (several actually) where folks could pick up a landmark with store name and then later come by or look on the marketplace. Hence the change POSSIBLY as there are NO venues going on for me right now. It will be interesting to see if things pick up as this month's venues begin. That would be a pretty clear indicator on the effect of the search changes.
  17. From what Drongle said about the number of materials in your house, I am wondering if you made it originally from prims and then exported a copy with the viewer. Those huge lists of materials show up then automatically when you import the file into Blender. This is of course a VERY good reason not to do that - LOL. If indeed it is that issue, you can make NEW materials for the faces (so exterior, interior, window moldings etc.) and AFTER reassigning the materials to what you actually need you can delete all the material-01-03 (or whatever but something that looks similar to that in the materials pane) by highlighting and using the minus sign over on the side of the materials list. Note (just in case I guessed correctly and if not then of course completely disregard) that exporting prims to make a house is not the best idea. It was used often when mesh was new but not only is it very inefficient, it comes with some issues. It is still a very good feature IMHO in order to get the general shape and size of something if fitting into an area is important. Good luck! I hope it works out for you. You will likely be much smarter by the time you get this working . Edit: Drongle has made many great threads on physics models and there are of course different ways, hopefully he knows the URL to one of those threads. In the meantime, here is a photo from the other day of a physics model for a doorway. It is made up of three cubes (two became trapezoids but still cube shapes). It worked perfectly. Note that the edges of the physics model don't touch each other.
  18. I can see you aren't a shopper (or a blogger) as those events mentioned are very well known -- although one is quite new. I agree that there are lots of event venues these days, but they fill a place in SL retail and are quite popular. I enjoy being in four venues and I don't consider myself a flashy designer at all. There are some excellent craftsmen in the venues and some not so great -- just like inworld and on the Marketplace. And the answer to the OP question is "free to several thousands of lindens for periods from a week (maybe less but I don't know of one) to almost a month". So there is a very wide variety. From the published information that I have noted on the web, the average price is around $2500 for 2 - 3 weeks. Again, this is just an average. I haven't found any lag at the events since the jellydolls have come out for most viewers. I do have a hefty machine, but there are plenty of ways to navigate the events and as someone said, going a week after opening is a good plan if you don't HAVE to be the FIRST one there - LOL.
  19. This is just the forum with other users, nothing official. You need to put in a support ticket using "Marketplace" as the category. They may or may not be able to help. Good luck.
  20. Just a general note on Win10. It may or may not help if it is that graphics card issue. You can get Win10 to run MUCH like Win7 by turning off all the defaults. There are TONS of things running in the background in Win10 UNLESS you opt out. I did this for security reasons as Win10 is kinda like the NSA in that reguard *wink* and while I have nothing to hide, I just don't like the idea. You can look up Win10 Security settings in Google and you will find a big list of things you can turn off. I actually turned off everything but the microphone and I am a very happy camper. Again if it is an issue with the card and SL that is one thing. If it is an issue with incompatibility with Win10 "default" software settings -- then turning things off might get you inworld. So you may want to try that; it is easy enough to turn things back on if it want. And you will likely be better off with a 1.23 style viewer like Singularity as that takes less power than hefty Firestorm or even the Linden viewer. Good luck.
  21. Well I am glad it sort of worked out. And yes, it would probably be good to have a "new" alt for the beta grid. My gal is doing fine though. Alpha layers will NOT show up on her but by going into adjust shape mode, she gets them back. That's been going on for over a month, but not a big deal. And yes, Chin I was thinking that that test has been around for about five years now and it would be very easy to forget you took it -- or if you have several avatars forget WHO took it . I saw more people over there this morning so maybe some other folks read this thread and got things worked out - LOL. That would be good.
  22. While I can understand that this is very problematic for folks who have lost ALL (or most) of their sales, I am kinda with Pamela on this. I could never see how the Marketplace gave any kind of relevant search (this looking for products to buy -- not complaining on my listings). I figure that for the "big stuff" folks have seen the items inworld and have looked them up on the Marketplace. Same with instore sales. I went back over my recent transactions and I am making the same amount that I have made for quite awhile. BUT, this is summer so that means I am a little above the curve perhaps. The INTERESTING thing in this conversation is that a third of my income is from VENUES now and I just started doing those this Spring. So doing the "math" that would mean that my total income would have been down a third if I wasn't doing the venues. I think it is very important NOT to count on one revenue stream -- Marketplace, instore, venues etc. and to cover your bases as much as you can. Hopefully LL will get this worked out. If not, I actually preferred Second Life PRE Marketplace. Maybe this will give folks some incentive to market in other ways.
  23. They are synced automatically and have been for some while. I lost a lot of inventory (never came back) and had tons of stuff show up on Agni in my folders that "really wasn't there" . So since then (a couple of months ago maybe, I have my alt over there. A VERY GOOD PLAN!!!!!! It may indeed be fixed now but I don't want that mess again. Took me a week to get things straightened out in my main grid inventory . https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Mesh/Aditi-Agni-inventory-losses-WARNING-Updated/td-p/3040269 I cannot verify that things are working correctly over there now as my alt has so little it would be hard to notice ^^. I CAN say it has been VERY quiet (read "empty") over on the beta grid the last few months.
  24. Payment info came into effect with Mesh (five years ago), so yes, that is a part of the process. AND I am thinking that a brand new alt might not be able to get on Aditi and upload mesh right away. Seems like I read that somewhere, sometime but since it wasn't important to me, I just kinda skipped over. Anyway an old alt with payment info should do it for you.
  25. All those links have been broken for four years and yes FRUSTRATING. If you can get to your new avatars Aditi account page, you "should" be able to access the mesh upload test from there. That is the only way I could find. This MIGHT get you to the test after you do the log in. At least its a start. Found it in my cookies. I never clean them out JUST for this reason . https://id.aditi.lindenlab.com/openid/login?return_to=https%3A%2F%2Fsecondlife.aditi.lindenlab.com%2Fauth%2Foid_return.php%3Fredirect%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fsecondlife.aditi.lindenlab.com%252Fmy%252Faccount%252Fip%252Ftutorial.php%253F Good luck. It is an adventure to get things working there. I am guessing that is planned .
