When you block someone, can they still see your avatar inworld?

Question

So I know the rest of the deal with blocking,  like if they can see you online or not, how they may be unblocked, dadada the rest of that.. But I can't find any info on if they'll be able to see my avatar inworld or not! Will they be able to?

I ask because of course this guy took interest in me while I was stripping, and now he won't leave me alone. I can't go back to my favourite club or even let him find out I'm online at all without him begging me to go back to his house with him, sending me emojis nonstop, etc... But as bad as I want to be left alone and go back to my favourite club, I really don't want to hurt his feelings... So you can see how being invisible would be ideal ^^''

Sorry...yes, if you block someone, YOU cannot see THEM (except as a silhouette), but THEY can see YOU.  They can also interact physically with you...for example, they can bump into you.  And they can send you money.  But they cannot send you IMs or local chat messages, or offer you gifts.  You will also not hear voice, attached sound effects, or gestures from them, or see any particle effects from their objects or attachments.

If YOU send THEM an IM or offer them inventory, they will automatically be unblocked.  If they DO send you money, don't send it back.  Just go buy something cute!

The fact is that you're being harassed. He is hurting your feelings to the point of driving you out of your favorite spot and making you block him.

Let him know you're not interested, and want him to stop. Just because you strip doesn't mean you want to bang whatever random dude asks for it.

If he feels hurt by that, assuming you don't go nuclear on him, that's not your responsibility.

Necro-posting, but it's in connection with the recent spate of scammers trying to get people to click on a link purporting to be to Firestorm 8, or 9, or anything more recent than 7.1.9.74745 (which is the current version as of today, 2 Sep 2024).

TL;DR version  - someone posted that scam with a link (that in NO way was a legit Firestorm URL) and devs called them out for it. I chimed in with something to the effect of "Recommend report and mute".

This person then proceeded to VERY quickly spam me with 166 payments of L$50 (totalling L$8300). I can't think of ANY reason why they would do this except in some kind of effort to set me up for a claim of fraud against them. So contrary to your advice, Lindal, if someone sends you money out of the clear blue sky, even if you've blocked them - perhaps PARTICULARLY if you've blocked them, as I did in this case - I STRONGLY recommend immediately returning the money so as to reduce the likelihood of a successful fraud claim against you by the scammer.

This also makes me think that the scammer had in fact hacked someone's account.

oh please, stop with the necro posting of a 14 year old thread.

The answer of suspect l$ has come up many times since then, advice from governance at recent meetings was to AR the sender for fraud>l$ to cover yourself, and leave the l$ untouched.

Governance will remove it from your account if it's illegally gotten l$, otherwise wait a week and enjoy your windfall.

Dear Belinda:

I'm extremely sorry that my posting something both connected to the point of the 4-year-old (not 14-year-old) post and to a current situation inconvenienced you so dreadfully. Had I but known this would be the case, I would certainly have placed your personal comfort and easily-distressed nature ahead of an advisory generally to whomever else might read my words and possibly find them useful. The whole 15 seconds that it must've taken you to read my post and compose your tastefully-worded reply are a greatly-appreciated sacrifice upon the altar of the general good. I salute you for so womanfully enduring this egregious assault upon your person.

This missive leaves me with the same heartfelt sincerity I feel sure your missive left you.

Rhiannon.

Hi @Rhiannon Tamerlane!

I think in this case, the issue is not that you are necro-posting.  When you add a "related" post - that is another "question" - to a "question" post, then it will be easy to lose track due to sorting.  It will probably be easier to understand and follow your post if it were in its own thread.

My understanding is, you are not asking or commenting in relation to the Original Post title / question of whether someone can SEE you after they are blocked, but you are posting on the general concern that someone can PAY you after they are blocked.

This is good information, and good to know. Thanks!

Personally, I think if this is still possible (to pay someone who has blocked you), it is worthy of a Canny / Feedback / Feature request.

Thanks again for your contribution to the Forums - and sorry if you received extra "grief" from us Forumites for "Necro-posting".

Yours,

Love

This is true. A large payment of $L from a stranger (or a known enemy) can be an attempt to frame you for money laundering. If you suspect this, rather than returning the L$, write a support ticket to LL. Attach your transaction log. Ask them to determine if the payments are legitimate. If LL determines they are not, then they'll take the money out of your account, but you won't get into further trouble.

The scenario I had in mind was the one where a jerk that you have muted sends you a minimum payment, usually just 1 L$, as a way of "poking" you.

You can also send the L$ to Governor Linden, which has been the advice given by some Lindens on this forum.

Problem is, someone can send you money all day, every day, for years.  You've met people in SL that are capable of this, don't deny it!  😂

But seriously, after 100's or 1000's of little $1L gifts, reporting all that or sending it all to Governor Lindon could get tedious.  Well, maybe you could add it to your weekly to-do list, the part right before cleaning the toilet.
