do you get an actual error message?

Open the viewer - Don't try to log in.  Go to Help - About and copy and paste the details here

I have exact same problem, no error message.  I had the same issue in the Summer where version 5_1_5_515811 would crash me out of login connecting to the region.  My solution was to remove that version and install the earlier version 5_1_5_511732 and it worked.  Now SL has a mandatory update, that you must install, which I did 6_0_0_520636.  And now can't connect as before, it is the same issue, every time it is in the login process, it gets to the message of "connecting to region" and it crashes.  For help, here is my About details of my system:

Well, have some good news that enabled me to get in, might want to try it.

So, went into preferences graphics card tab and reduced the quality/speed from High to Mid, which also brought avatar complexity down from 300000 to 200000.  After making this single change, I am able to login fine now.  So, sounds like an issue with my Graphics card that SL Viewer cannot handle at higher settings.

Here is an image of my current settings.

That's what I would have guessed from the information that you posted.  You are using the Intel chip on your motherboard as your GPU and it is just not up to the task, especially with Advanced Lighting enabled.  Dropping your maximum quality and complexity, getting rid of Advanced Lighting, and reducing your draw distance have taken a lot of the load off of that chip.

Your system appears to be a laptop with dual graphics cards.
You have an AMD graphics card on that system too.  You'll likely get much better performance if you set the viewer to use the AMD graphics card.
12.100.14.1300 is an AMD driver.
The way the viewer system information displays the graphics driver version is a bit bugged on systems with dual graphics cards.
Currently the viewer is using the integrated Intel graphics, Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 & Intel driver version 9.18.10.3204.

Is this a Dell laptop?
Can you give the Make & exact model  number of the laptop?

You don't tell the SL viewer, you tell your PC.  I'm not sure about this because my PC doesn't have dual graphics...but right click your desktop and see if there's an option to open Display Settings, or maybe there is an option for "AMD control panel" or similar.

not sure how all sysems work, my windows (10) makes it easy, just rightclick on the desktop shortcut button and select the card you want to use

AMD has a control panel for the video card. You need to find it and set your laptop to Performance rather than Power Saving.

Most control video panels... well... AMD and NVIDIA, allow you to set app profiles. Google how to setup a game profile for your video card. Set up a profile for SL.
