Ok, so I was hanging out in one of the adult areas and this guy offered to just give me $4,000L because he said he liked me. I said sure, and he sent me a tp link. The link didn't have any recognizable place name, it looked like a person's last name. My Spidey sense started to tingle, and I told him I had some RL stuff to do and logged off. Could this have been some sort of a scam? Could he have hacked into my account or into my computer or something?

Yes Bobbie...she is safe

because she didnt except a link from someone she didnt know but, still it may not have been a bad link

my partner and I change the words in tp links to personal messages. You can chose to have original address and add to it

or just make your own up. Nice way to have a bit of fun.

Goes along with the old saying...."If something seems too good to be true, it probably is"

Why would this guy give you $4000L? And why would you have to click on a link to get it??

Good move logging off.

What kind of adult place was it?

Did they have escorting there? He may have had a misunderstanding..

It may have been a link to his land or some  place he likes to go for the romance..

From working in the clubs for a few years,it was pretty common to get offers like that a lot..

It's always good to find out thier intentions.

Just curious if there is a way to check the link to make sure it's a slurl or a url?

SLURLs always look like this...

http://SLurl.com/secondlife////?param=value¶m=value...

If you see a hidden link (as we create with that little chain icon in the Post Message editor) you can (on a Mac, and probably on a PC) right click the link and select "Copy Link", then paste into your browser's address bar. Don't hit enter or you'll actually go to the link.

If any one like to drop 4,000 on me because "they like me" I will  taking it to the bank with a "thank you" and a smile..

Why dose every thing have to be a negative in SL these days, " It's a scam", " hacked link.." !

What if the dude has money and bad friend making skills ?

Why not talk to the person, explain you rather not tp away and rather pop a squat and get  to know a little about each other.

Yes the world is full of scammers , but It is also full of sad people with lots of money just looking for friendship!

The only way they know how to get it is to pay for it...sad but true.....

God kills puppies and babies with out remorse.....but if he magic drop you 4k USD just becasue "He like you"  you would not question it!!

The lesson learn here ?

pot is legal in my state.........it's like waking up to a new planet every day!

Thank you for all your responses. What I really would like to know is if it's poosible for this person to get into my account or computer simply from me clicking on a link.

The way most "phishing" schemes work is by presenting you with a page that asks you to enter your Log In name and password.  See this thread for a discussion and examples:

http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Phishing-Scheme-Dont-Click-The-Link/td-p/1750713

It's possible for a web page, if that link had opened your browser, to carry a trojan.  Bu that is a risk any where / any time you are surfing the web.  If your AntiVirus is up to date it should catch it.

The more likely scenario is it would have taken you to a phishing page.

OMG your post on the forum must be an attempt to hackx me!!!

/flees

:D

Yeah...

Some folks are a little too paranoid.

If money just appears in your SL account because somebody decided to pay you - smile and enjoy it.

If people are asking you to click random links that's something entirely different.
