So I'm minding my own buisness in a location watching some videos people had posted on youtube in someone elses server. This noob comes up and plays this video called "goodnightmoon.exe" then he disappears His name was Unknown and a bunch of random numbers and then Resident can't remember his name now =/ I wish I did. The video starts and we all think its the childrens book but it starts with something from Zelda we all recognized but it got waaaaaaaay worse there were clips of dolls and creepy stuff, Everyone was pretty much like "wtf....." like just made everyone creeped out. So then I realized we had to have just been trolled, I tried searching him. And nothing, no profile, no data. So we watched it a couple more times and people were leaving because it was feaking them out, the horrible sounds and weird images. It wasnt like porn or any "real" gore it was just weird. So I go to my home location and I end up in some place with like Gregorian chanting, I tried to turn media off and nothing I finally muted SL, then my character becomes deformed and the enviro-settings went nuts, my game froze and for some reason my game unmuted itself, I finally did a force close and watched the video (because its the only one named that) the person had other videos but idk it was just really weird and im afraid to even go to bed now. Idk if its some kind of glitch or wtf happened. If anyone else has had this experience or not. =/ heres the video if youve seen it before, please help!

Excuse me? Hey buddy get yourself a decent avatar before you come in here with your trolling stuff, how the hell do I know if people can link viruses and glitches through media? Do I? No. A simple yes or no would have sufficed but your claymation avatar says it all.

dude this is probably the worst post I ever read. the best part is where you describe the guy with a bunch of letters and numbers his name, and then looking at your name. xD

and then the first person that comes along and point out what you're doing is getting youtube hits (which is true), you wanna go and start insulting them. O_o

you're a real piece of work.

If that was all you were asking...   How were you watching the video?  Shared Media (web on a prim) or parcel media?

Generally, the answer would be "Yes they can,  at least with Shared Media, but your antivirus should catch it"  So should whatever precautions YouTube take.

ROFL! That "troll" happens to be a regular poster here, and is generally pretty helpful.

Sorry, but when someone rambles on almost incoherently and then claims to be afraid to go to bed because an avi showed them a skeery video, makes it hard to take seriously.

To answer you though, your system probably can't handle all the resources it takes to hop around to different locations and watch videos, etc. and freaked out. Clear your cache, reboot, and if nothing else goes wonky, you are fine. Also, there are tools that avi's can use to deform you and do weird stuff but it's not actually harmful.

I just love this story

made everyone creeped out ... so we watched it a couple more times ... im afraid to even go to bed now

Which is mad enough even before it switches to

how the hell do I know if people can link viruses and glitches through media?

Oh dear, you completely forgot to mention those in your ramble.  The answer is "by learning how computers and viruses work".  A 'glitch' is an event if anything so you can't "link" to one.

Not, of course, since the story finishes so sadly with

A simple yes or no

Despite the fact that there is no question in the OP.  Disposable account, never-to-be-seen-again avatar?  Lucinda? (Not really mad enough I think)

"...so we watched it a couple more times..."

I fail to understand your complaint, Mr. "Letters and Numbers Resident".  You found it interesting enough to watch re-runs.  You even chose to promote its distribution with a link to it in your post.

If it was truly horrid, why didn't you:

1.  Change the channel, or

2.  Turn off your media player, or

3.  Hit CTRL+Q?

If that video caused that much problem in your computer why oh WHY would you link to it here and ask us to view it also!?

Sheesh.

As for what happened I don't know, all i can say is next time, click their name in local or IM chat and it will bring up their profile. While their profile is open, AR the incident with as much info or detail as you can. Linden Lab can pull up the chat and see what happened and maybe take action.
