  1. To DJ properly can be expensive though. You used to be able to use WinAmp, but that program is no longer being supported by it's maker. The best is SAM4 but it's pricey. I'm not sure what other programs are out there.
  2. Another way is hunts. SLHunts website has them listed. FInd one that sounds like what you are after and then find the objects. Do start with one that's free and don't start with the Twisted Hunt. They will also introduce you to some of the stores in SL where you will be doing your shopping. One good deal is WoW skins. It's 250L to join the group but you get a box with the past group gifts in it. For a female, that's 16 or more skins. You also get a free one each month as well as the MM boards and lucky boards. Check out places like Designer's Circle where many inworld designers have their stuff at a discounted price as well. Do decide on what look you want for your avi. Snowpaws has a very different look from Razor or L&B, for instance. Do you want punk, goth, upscale. What you want to look like will decide where you want to shop. Good luck.
  3. Facelights were fine before windlight. Now, their main usefulness is for photographers to eliminate odd shadows. I have render attached lights unchecked so I don't see them even if someone is wearing them. With windlight, those around you probably don't have the same settings as you do. One thng about lights of any kind is to remember that SL only renders 6 light sources at one time. So a facelight "steals" the light from surrounding lights. Nothing worse than seeing someone with a constellation of lights around them and only 6 random ones are actually providing light. You're better off finding a windlight setting that gives you the look you want than using a facelight. As for the male bottom lip, some of that is the avi, some is how the skin is colored. Try different skins and see if that helps the problem. Also play with the lips sliders and see if that helps as well. Facelights, as well as excessive bling, are seen as hallmarks of a new resident, just saying.
  4. If it's the open mouth screaming face, it's a know SL glitch. It's caused by an attachment with an animition, like a weapon for instance. It's a common occurance in RP sims. In fact, just for fun, we've had galleries of pictures of different players with the screaming face. The only fix is to find out what's doing it and take it off then stop all animiations and turn your ao off and back on. That usually fixes it...at least until you put the attachment back on again.
  5. Sounds like Metabolt, a text only client.
  6. WoW and 7 Deadly Skins are good. If you want to try the Wow line check out the Designer's Circle. She has one there that is the shape and a skin for 100L and a demo is available. Places like Designer Circle Collabor88, etc are good places to look for inexpensive deals. You have to find what you like....demos, demos, demos.
  7. You might be better off asking this in the Firestorm viewer group inworld. I believe you can go to the first tab then avi and then recreate bridge but best to check with them in that group. Good luck
  8. Adding a foot alpha should take care of the problem because, as stated, the invisiprims in older shoes no longer works. As for your second problem, since you can only add 5 items at the same attachment point, chances are you have more than 5 items attaching at the same place. Many designers don't seem to get that the default attachment is the right hand so never change the attachment point. It doesn't take long to have 5 mesh items attached. What I do is when I add a new mesh item, I look in my inventory and see where it's attaching. If it's going to the right hand, I change it to a more appropriate place. Pants at the stomach, for instance. With rigged mesh, it will go to the right place regardless of where you attach it. Just take it off right click on it in your inventory then choose attach to. You'll get a list of all the places you can attach. I tend to use places that are mostly unused to attach, like the right thigh for pants, the right pec or right upper arm for a top or jacket. That leaves the more frequently used places open for other items. Hope that helps.
  9. Just remember when texturing inside a hollowed cube that SL sees that surface as one, not 4, so you will have to adjust your texture for that.
  10. The shaper is usually done on a bald cap thing. Look at the icon for it in your inventory. If it is, then just wear a plain bald cap. There should be one in your library. Basically once it's on, you can only replace it with a different one rather than take it off. Same thing with skin, shape and eyes. You can replace them with another item of the same kind but you can't take them off. When you wear, not add, but wear the new one, it will knock off the old one and replace it.
  11. How are you trying to pay? Credit/debit card should go right through. Paypal as well. If they fail, try removing them and then readding them. If you are still having a problem, call the Linden billing phone number listed in the contact support page on the dashboard. I had that problem with my account and it was something on their end.
  12. Male or female is big so we know where to direct you. I can set up a good looking female for less than 500L and that includes clothes. A male is a bit more pricey because there are fewer options for males. If you are less than 30 days old, check out the fabulously free site. http://fabfree.wordpress.com/fabfree-30-days-list/ Good luck.
  13. Try WoW and 7 Deadly Skins. Both have packs with skins and avi and do have demos. Keep in mind that the look of the muscle definition is on the skin. I make shapes and use the WoW and 7 Deadly when I want a normal look rather than the body builder. Redgrave has some good ones as well.
  14. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help in the Slink group or contact SOCS, the support avi. Most of the mods or SOCS will be happy to meet you at the store and help you get the perfect fit for with your avi.
  15. I'm with you on 2K Linden lasting long at collabor88, not to mention the various fashion fairs as well as the annual Hair Fair (coming in July), RFL clothing fair and Shoetopia, all of which support charities (Hair Fair-Wigs for Kids, RFL-Relay for Life, cancer, Shoetopia-Soles for Souls). It's very easy to spend money. 2K Linden is about 10 USD. You spend that much at McDonalds these days. As for the avi. Although it is against SL TOS, if you know where to look, there are people buying up older avis that have a proper first and last name rather than none or Resident. I have spent a decent amount on my various alts and enjoy using them. I actually have some set up for different purposes. Try doing that with your alts. I have one I use when I want to go clubbing. She has lots of dances on her. I have my main that is an admin in an RP sim. I have my business avi. I have one that I use when I get in the mood for doing something naughty :smileywink: SL is a place of endless possibilities. Use your alts to explore something you wouldn't normally do and keep it for that purpose. Enjoy the wide range of activities in SL.
  16. As you upgrade your AO, look for individual poses/animations rather than the whole AO. Then you can choose what you like and put it together. My current AO is a work in progress that I have been working on for the 7 years I've been in SL. I have actually gone to almost all poses or minimal animation since the constant movement makes me nuts. You don't pace or skip around, put your hand up to your head, etc in RL. You tend to change position but are pretty still in RL. If you use static poses, that will eliminate some of the clipping. It's about time for the AO fair so you'll be able to go to one sim and try most of the poses/animations from the leading makers. ALWAYS try the animation/pose first. Don't look at the picture and thing that's good. It might not be good for your avi. There may only be 2 animations you like in the AO.
  17. Another problem might be what you are standing on. If you are standing on mesh or sculpted ground, depending on how it's made, you may sink through it rather than stay on top of it....just a thought.
  18. I think there's a general problem. I couldn't purchase Lindens using my PayPal or my check card on 1/13 but had had no problems 2 days earlier.
  19. Male shapes are not that easy to do, especially since people obviously make the same mistakes. Ice cream cone with the cherry on top look....rolls her eyes. Broad shoulder, narrow waist and tiny head are really bad. Unfortunately, a lot of freebie avis are built on this principle. Also, they try to look more muscular by pumping up the avatar arms, legs and pecs. All that does is make you look like you have fat arms, legs and chest. The avatar is the muscle and bones that support your skin. For muscle detail you HAVE to invest in the skin. The skin is probably the largest expense for any avater. Coca and Wolf as well as Prodigal probably do the best job. Male skins, however, because there aren't as many designers doing them, tend to cost more. But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. WoW and 7 Deadly Skins now have male skins. WoW, if you join the group (300L), has a male skin as the monthly VIP gift group. It's the same skin that's for sale, not a quicky for the gift. Yes, I make shapes. They are realistically proportioned and have gotten many compliments on them. Many of the skins come with a good avi as well. As for clothes, I found some really nice ones on the MP relatively inexpensive. There is also the Menstuff hunt that starts March 1. 50L to join the group, but there are quite a few gifts in the lounge that you can get for free from many of the top designers in SL. For hair, a lot of "male" hair is just bad. Don't be aftaid to look in the "ladies" sections. I have a lot of hair that I can use for male or female. If you don't want to be bothered with hair, look for hair bases. There are quite a few that look like a close crop. You can also find many with designs "cut" into them that can look quite impressive. Males do take a bit more effort to outfit, but are well worth the effort to get a good look.
  20. Notice that I did qualify my statement, that most but not all are playing characters that look different than they do in RL. I've seen some that do and some are in SL for professional reasons. A few years back I saw one of the online colleges have their graduation in SL. I believe everyone had an avi already as some classes were given in SL. They had the robes and everything, which I thought was a rather cool way of doing it since there was no way the graduates from all over the US could get together in RL for that kind of ceremony.
  21. Back to the original reason for this thread. Besides gender there are also those that restrict their RP with people because of their RL age. My various avis, with one exception, look between 19 and 25. I was in an RP sim and the guy that approached me wanted to know my RL age because he didn't want to RP or get involved in any way with anyone over 30 in RL. I'm a bit older than that but use SL to do things I never could do in RL. The whole thing comes down to in SL you are what your avi appears to be whether it's male or female, furry or not, or your age. When you enter SL, you really are RPing. There are very few who look anything close to their SL avatar in RL. So, in the broadest sense, you are something in SL that you aren't in RL.
  22. And actually, now that I think about it, I believe that asking is a violation of the TOS. You are soliciting disclosure of RL information. Just a thought.
  23. There are also the Lush mesh breasts as well and the Vcorp. Both of them run around 1K or so and do have demos. The Vcorp actually have 6 different shapes you can choose from to get the look you want. The Tango appliers will work with both the Lush and the Vcorp. As for whether to get them or not, if you want your avi to be a bit chesty, ie larger than about 60 on the sliders, your better off getting the mesh boobs. The SL avi doesn't have sufficient faces to give a smooth look. Take a look it it in wire frame and you'll see what I mean. You start getting really odd peaks instead of a smooth line above the 60 slider mark. If you're staying with standard sizing, you don't need them unless you just want them. Personal preference.
  24. When the standard sizing came out, I looked at the numbers and then at my avi that I had made. I was just a point or two off from the small. If your avi is in proportion, you should have no trouble with clothes. I do take exception to the description for the sizes, though. I wear a medium size for most of my alts and they look good. As for skins, there are a number of good ones. WoW, League, Izzies, and 7 Deadly Skins are what I usually wear...my preference of course. Slink hands a feet are almost a must. The SL avi has paddles for feet and the hands leave much to be desired. The tangoes/lush/v-corp etc are mesh breasts, usually based on the SL mesh but have more polygons than the SL avi. After about 60 on the sliders you start getting weird peaks in the SL avi. The mesh boobs, if sized correctly, will allow you to go larger without those peaks. I have all three on various avi and have them set at about 70 on the sliders equivalent. If you don't plan on going much above the slider 60, you really don't need them. Don't be afraid to grab up lots of demos and then try them on. Always choose your avi first since the same skin can look totally different on different avis.
  25. For a nice pencil skirt, try Moda. She has curvy option in each size and the skirt colors are on a hud so easy to change the color. That paired with a nice blouse or tank with a blazer will give you the business look you want with a touch of the feminine.
