  1. if your skin came with a bald base, it probably has the eyebrows on it and you can change the color by editing that.
  2. If you want to help, there are several organizations. SL Help Desk group, Helping Hands, Mental Mentors is still active and actually trains you to be a mentor to new residents. The majority of MM were SL mentors. In fact, that was a requirement to be a member back in the day.
  3. Once upon a time, on an alt, I was a SL mentor. Mentors were at the initial help island to help new residents with any questions. There was also a freebie store with items donated to get a new resident started. LL then allowed private orientation hubs as well as the standard so that new residents could chose where they went through orientation, including many in languages other than English. There were people there to help as well. Then LL decided not to give the creators of these alternate orientation sites a break and they disappeared. LL also decided to disban the mentor program. LL pared down the orientation, but still gave a good set of instructions on how to do things. Now, however, it's a disaster. You come in as a new resident to a room with doors marked with different interests that you might be coming to SL with. There is absolutely no instruction on how to do anything, just the doors; no idea how to edit your avi, how to walk, how to fly, how to talk in open chat, nothing. Once you walk through the door of your choice, you are randomly dropped into a sim or a location that fits into the topic you choose. A friend chose adult and ended up in a sex sim. Many new residents would see that, log out, and never log in again. If LL is wanting to retain new registrations, an overhaul of how new residents are introduced to SL needs to be done, especially if SL is listed on Steam. Instructions need to return. There are several mentor groups in SL that are made up of former SL mentors that would be more than happy to be available again. The help islands, though they were a bit clunky, at least gave the new resident an introduction to SL and how to do things as well as a central point for some items to help them get started. Anyone have any opinions or other suggestions?
  4. I have 2 shapes..my everyday and then the one with no butt to wear with system skirts so they don't look weird. Everything else about the 2 avis is the same. I have numerous different skins on my different avis. Bobbie is using Red Queen and CStar for the most part. The Red Queen, I have 4 different lines of skins for the makeup. However, I've been wearing the same skin lately and using MOCK tattoo layer makeups to change the makeup rather than changing the skin. The makeup is a lot cheaper than skins. I also prefer a darker lip than most skin makers do so I can add the darker color I like.
  5. try Body Doubles for the avi. The skin is pretty generic. I'd suggest LAQ or estyle.
  6. I'm looking for a skin that has more detailed leg and arm muscles. I'm trying to put together an av that looks like she could take down a bad guy with some muscle detail. All the ones I've seen are more feminine with not a lot of arm or leg muscle detail. Any suggestions? THanks
  7. Look for neko aos. You should find what you are looking for in one of them
  8. Glad you adjusted the shoulders. That gets rid of the "ice cream cone with a cherry on top" look. As far as I'm concerned, that's the main halmark of a new male resident and something that is easily fixed. I only offer my opinion if asked for.
  9. I forgot, please, please edit your shape so you don't look like an ice cream cone. A realisting male shape is more straight up and down, not maxed out at the shoulders and near minimum at the waist..as I said, that makes you look like an ice cream cone with your head as the cherry on top.
  10. Cstar also has older male skins in their discount section. These were limited skins that only 100 were available. Some people have decided to sell theirs. So you will be one of only 100 that have that skin and they are less than 1000L
  11. Once upon a time, there was a group called SL Mentors. We manned Help Island where new residents arrived. We were able to point them to quality places to fix up their avatar for little or no cost. We also suggest new resident friendly places, like NCI, for classes on what you needed to know in SL. LL, in their infinite wisdom, decided to disband this group as well as eliminate the private welcome centers that had been set up, including ones in German, Japanese, Italian, just to name a few, and did nothing to fill that void. I currently, at my own expense, maintain a folder with good clothing, a decent skin, and landmarks to new resident friendly places that I hand out to new residents that I meet. It includes instruction notecards on how to rez a box to open it up and retrieve the contents, how to change your clothing, including covering the different layers and their symbols, how to cease being a cloud, etc. These are for female residents, unfortunately, since I haven't been able to find decent male stuff. I would love to see retention numbers from when the mentors were functioning compared with now.
  12. Check out Abrinamations. I believe they have an AO for use with an kimono. Falln might as well since they sell a large selection of kimonos.
  13. More inventory will slow you down. First it has to load. Then, as you move from sim to sim, you have to be reconnected with it. I would suggest going through your inventory. If you don't wear it either delete it or you can rez a box and put the items in the box. Name the box hair, tops, buildings, whatever. Then you only have one inventory item with stuff in it that you can retrieve later. Also, go through and delete duplicate calling cards and landmarks as well as landmarks you don't use. Same with your objects folder. With copy items, when you open them a copy of the original box remains in your objects folder. Drop those in a prim to save as well, again labled with what they are. You can always retrieve it later that way if you need it. If you have room on your land, leave the box rezzed out rather than in your inventory. Stuff rezzed on your land is saved differently than stuff in your inventory. That way you have a backup of your stuff outside of your inventory. I've done that with my textures collection and buildings I've collected over the years.
  14. Try joining the Greatest Love Hunt group. Lots of friendly people there. It's not just about their hunt. Lots of cool convos and sharing of deals we find on the grid.
  15. As others have said, it's more than likely you hit a phantom prim that went through the base of the structure. When you stepped on it, there was nothing there and you just kept going. As for large structures/sims in the sky, take a trip to Insilco. I believe it's 3000+ meters up.
  16. There is currently a grid-wide hunt going on, Make Him Over. Do a search for it. As you follow the hunt, you will get lots of decent gifts and see a lot of the shops in SL for men.
  17. Check out Lapointe and Bastchild. They have a free shop of items they have retired. Lots of nice stuff.
  18. Check out Grendel's Children. The avis there are nicely made and very inexpensive.
  19. The eyes, I'm not sure what you are doing. To change the color you usually have to put on a different pair. Look in you library or just put eyes in the search for your inventory. You have a lot of free ones there. You can buy them and pay anywhere from 10L to 300L or more, depending on what you want. As for bald, most hair comes with a bald cap. Just put that on and you are bald. Also, some skins come with the bald option as well.
  20. There are also numerous hunts going on as well as lucky chairs and Midnight Mania boards that will get you better quality stuff.
  21. Don't forget MM boards and lucky chairs for high quality stuff to finish off your avi. There are also a boatload of hunts going on right now and will be right through the end of December that you can trick out your avi in style and not spend a RL penny.
  22. Check out Emo-tions hair, among others. Many creators are starting to create hair with hats already on.
