  1. Once upon a time, when escorting made money, I believe the stats were that about 80% or so were men playing females to make money. With all the females giving it away for free now, unless you want real roleplay, people don't pay. I'm female and have female and male alts. I know of several clubs that before you can escort there you have to voice verify your gender. That I don't understand since with a voice morpher you can sound like what you want to. I have a friend that's male but has a female avi in most games. He said he'd rather watch a female running around for hours than a male. Others go female because of the clothing options you don't have as a male. In SL you are what your avi is unless you tell me differently.
  2. The lag is built in for editing purposes in case something is said that shouldn't be broadcasted so it can be edited. Best you can do is listen from your stream rather than inworld.
  3. It works and I get between 35 and 40 fps unless I'm involved in metered combat...then the fps drops to 10. I'll be upgrading when I build my new computer. Just waiting on some money to come in.
  4. CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ (2900.2 MHz) Memory: 8192 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 550 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 9.18.0013.3158 OpenGL Version: 4.4.0 My computer specifics. I'm using a GeForce GTX 550 TI, so 2 generation older than the newest release and having no problems signing in on any viewer. I keep up with the various viewers since I'm an admin in an RP sim and need to be able to help players with graphics settings and need to know where what is on the various viewers.

You never mentioned this fact before. The fact that you've had problems with every PC save one points to the problem being on your end not on SL's and not the viewer application. I've lived in 4 different places, had 4 different ISP's over the years I've played in SL. I've never had a problem connecting, even last year when I had to use my netbook for bare essentials I needed to take care of, even though I was only getting 2-4 fps on it. I don't know where you are in the world, but sounds like your ISP may have SL throttled if not blocked. Since you can get on the website, but not the viewer, might I suggest seeing if you can log in on something like Metabolt, a text only client? If you can get in on that, I suspect your ISP has your bandwidth throttled down to where it won't support the dynamic bandwidth SL requires. You might also check your firewall on your modem doesn't have it blocked as well. Just some thoughts.
  6. Once again with the sweeping generalizations. 46,368 people right now would disagree with you. Just because YOU are having problems with YOUR computer and SL doesn't mean SL doesn't run on PCs. I'm having no problems with mine and apparently neither are the other 46K players online at the time of this post. So, quit whining because SL programmers haven't added your brand new shiney. Bottom line is, you seem to think that you are the center of the universe and if your system doesn't run SL, then none are. Hubris, much?
  7. Another way of meeting people is to take classes. Look under search for Education. NCI has a whole series of classes dealing with SL and how to do basics in SL. They also offer a series of building classes that teach the basics as does Builder's Brewer. NCI also has social events. There are places to meet others, it just takes a bit of time and hitting the right places. You should also try Helping Haven. http://helpinghaven.weebly.com/ is their blog. They also offer classes and social events.
  8. What proof do you have that there is a "program" that LL has added to the viewer to block computers? That would require a lot of extra work for no reason. My complaint with LL has always been that they write the viewer for new graphics cards, making older graphics card obsolete in terms of running SL. It's not a matter writing a special program to block hardware so much as they programmers haven't caught up with the newest shiney. Ever wonder why LL only supports 2 graphics cards and not every one out on the shelf? Every graphics card has different requirements. They would never be able to keep up with all the cards out there. That's why they recommend Radeon and GeForce. Why you feel persecuted because they don't support your new shiney is beyond me. Then feeling like you have to come to the SL forums and declare SL is dead because your particular setup with the new shiney doesn't play well with LL YET is sour grapes, plain and simple. You've decided that it's a conspiracy because they haven't updated the viewer and instead are insisting that they've gone to the extra trouble of writing a program to block players from playing would be a bit counterproductive on their part.
  9. Once again, Ice, awfully bitter. A platform doesn't work with your particular configuration, so it's worthless and not worth investing time or money in. Ya know...this really sounds like the fox and the grapes from Aesop's fables. Sour grapes sound familiar? There are over 46 thousand players in SL at the time of this message (1217 AM EDT 10/19/13). At one time, 30K would have and did crash the SL grid. Now 30K online is during the slow times. I remember the big hoopla when the grid finally supported 30K. Since I've been in SL starting in 2007, I'm now on my 5th graphics card, each one more powerful than the last. Programmers have to play catch up, for the most part, these days with the technology. I'm just chalking your attitude and words up to sour grapes....Have fun wherever you decide to play. I'll play in SL until they shut the doors.
  10. The walking and snapping back is referred to as rubberbanding. It's lag. 98% or so of all lag originates with the user's computer, not SL. Graphics cards, processors and internet connections all contribute to the lag. Now that we have SSA, the lag is a bit less. Remember that the 3 servers your avi is on communicate with your computer. Yes 3 servers, 1 your avi was created on, 1 that your inventory is on, the 1 that the sim you are in is on and your computer. It's quite possible that 1 is in California, one is in Texas, 1 is in the Northeast and then your personal computer. If you are in Europe, even longer distances. So...if you lag then snap back, that's when the systems sync up. If you get the logged out message, the didn't sync and you were disconnected.
  11. SL and other Open Sims are unique in the "gaming" world. You have avis wearing skins/clothing/mesh attachments/prim attachments all built by different players as well as textured created by the users. The buildings you see, same thing; prims and textures created by the users. Animation, made my the users. Scripts, written by the useres. Group and private IMs going on communicating with people across different sims; many of those servers So greater than 90% of the content in SL is user generated and there is new content generated every single day. There are very few systems, unless you're going to invest in Cray supercomputers, that can handle that. So, unless you have the resources for that, you are going to have lag, you are going to have functionality problems. The games you are trying to compare SL to are static in that all the textures, prims, avi skins, lands, clothing...everything is pregenerated and loaded into the game server. Nothing is there that the programmers weren't able to plan for. You don't have the individual players balanced between 4 systems. Yes, your avi is on 4 systems that have to work together; one for your avi info, one for your inventory, one for the sim you are in and your personal computer. That adds a great deal more complexity than running WoW off your computer hooked up to the WoW server. My computer specs: CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ (2900.2 MHz) Memory: 8192 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 550 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 9.18.0013.2723 OpenGL Version: 4.3.0 RestrainedLove API: RLV v2.7.0 / RLVa v1.4.8a libcurl Version: libcurl/7.21.1 OpenSSL/1.0.0d zlib/1.2.5 c-ares/1.7.1 J2C Decoder Version: KDU v7.1 Audio Driver Version: FMOD version 3.750000 Qt Webkit Version: 4.7.1 (version number hard-coded) Voice Server Version: Not Connected Settings mode: Firestorm Viewer Skin: Firestorm (Grey) Font Used: Deja Vu (96) Draw distance: 128 Bandwidth: 1000 LOD factor: 2 Render quality: High (5/7) Built with MSVC version 1600 I just bought the graphics card last year, before the new one came out, so was one generation older than the newest shiney. I run anywhere from 10 FPS when I'm in the RP sim I spemd most of my time on and there's fighting going on so lots of scripts between the meter and weapons, up to 40 fps in the quiet sim where I have my shop. Even the low end still allows me to function well within SL. So you can't move around as fast as you would like? Sorry, the SL system dynamics don't allow for the fluidity you may be used to in WoW/Diablo/etc.
  12. Once again, a bit of an exaggeration. SL is dying because you and a few others can't log on. Usual practice for graphics cards, unless you are a developer, is not to get the newest but the one the newest shiney but to get the card that the newest one replaced. You have to be patient and give the coders a chance to update the viewer to accept the graphics card. SL has been trying to fix problems, like bake fail. Isn't it a bit of hubris to say that SL is dying just because there are some that can't play with their new shiney?
  13. 1024 x 1024 is still higher than most textures need. Higher isn't necessarily better and does contribute hugely to lag. In fact, it's probably one of the major contributors to performance degredation.
  14. Once upon a time, I was an SL Mentor, so we had a lot of information given to us. Your avatar requires 4 different computers to work properly. The one your avi info is on, the one with your inventory, the sim server and your home computer. All 4 have to work for you to be in SL properly. When you move from one sim to another, the info on the other 3 has to be transferred to the new sim and disconnected from the old one. If that doesn't work smoothly, you sometimes get disconnected from the old one before you're connected to the new one. Chat lag, you have a group with, say 1000 members. Someone sends an IM to the group chat. SL servers have to see who is online, what sim they are in and send it to them...that's a lot of work as well. Then take into account how many chats are going on at any once time. The mesh deformer project, from what I understand, when they've tried to get it to run, it breaks something else, so not as easy as you might think. I've also heard that too many creators were doing what is being done here in the discussion....add this, take out this, etc. The programmer got fed up and shelved the project. The programmer was then fired for his bad attitude. I'm more inclined to believe the latter based on the various discussion I see here in the forum. SL is NOT, I repeat is NOT a typical MMO game. WoW/Diablo etc use a set of textures that are a set resolution. SL creations are just that. Made using textures from users, some of which aren't made very well. You can have resolutions from 16 up to 2048. For most applications 512 resolution is more than sufficient unless you are dealing with print. The higher the resolution on the textures, the longer it takes to download. For instance, you don't need a texture that is 2048 x 2048 for a ring or a brick wall. If you are using Firefox, not sure where it is on other views, open your develop menu. Then go to Render Metadata and check texture size. If you are lagging in an area, check what the size is on the textures around you. I'm willing to bet you that you'll see a lot of 1024 x 1024 or higher. I'm looking in my work area that I built and the highest is 512 x 512. I hea down to my shop area and same thing; nothing higher thant 512 x 512. SL doesn't regulate the resolution used for textures, but the lower the resolution, the faster it will rendor. There's a lot that goes in to making SL. It's more than your WoW/Diablo etc MMO.
  15. LL can't win for losing as the saying goes. LL gets complaints from older computer users that they have features that older graphics cards can't keep up with then the ones that have the newest and best graphics cards complain because it doesn't work well with SL yet... How many remember the grid closing down on Weds at 8AM SLT, supposedly for 4 hours, for upgrades; 4 hours that became 6 that became 8 and then the grid was unstable all weekend? Now we get rolling restarts spread out over 3 days so the whole grid rarely goes down. As for performance, as others have said, almost everything you see around you is user created and can't be preloaded like WoW, Diablo, etc. That takes a huge hit on your performance. The software is actually totally redone. That's what the V2 fiasco was about, the updated software. They've phased out the old software since none of the original programmers are with LL and the current programmers aren't even sure what some of the coding is for. They were also have problems with it such that every time they tried something new, they had a coding conflict. Prime example is them being unable to get the avi deformer for mesh to work properly. You also have the scripts that people write in SL that work with the LL servers. Some of those are well written. Some are just bad. The server has to deal with those as well. The bad ones can cause massive lag. LL has come long way and is still changing every day. If you still have it in your inventory, take a look at the old hair, skins and clothes. Compare the textures from then and now, the construction techniques, etc. Contact me in world and I'll be happy to show you my original avi on my original account, complete with clothes, skin, shape and hair. If you are jumping into SL expecting a smooth, fast experience like you get in WoW et al, forget it. There is too much content within SL that has been created by the users that you have to access everywhere you go in SL. I'm not blind to the problems, but I remember where SL started.
  16. This is me. The hairstyle may change but pretty much. My business alt, you'll never know what she'll look like..Usually my latest shape I've made.
  17. WoW has become my go to skin. Lots of shades and makeups. She has also just released her first male skin. Very well done, imho.
  18. Second Life Release 3.6.6.280963 is the version with the problem.
  19. They look fine on the screen, but take a look at your saved logs. They aren't showing there. This is in the newest update from SL. I have the show display and avatar names checked, they just aren't showing in the saved logs, only the display name is showing.
  20. Once again, a needed feature is ditched. Unless someone has an idea where to find the fix, when you save your logs, it's only saving the display name. This is a problem in RP sims for the admins since we have to post calls and need the avatar name, not the display name. Some of our players change their display name every week. This change is a logistical nightmare for us since we have to be able to track calls through the avatar name. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I'd welcome them.

  22. For a submissive male, try Open Collar. It's free and will work with any of their collars, if you decide to go that way.
  23. Head size is going to depend on the avi size. A taller avi or one with broader shoulders is going to need a larger head. A good gauge is if you zoom away from the avi, if the head looks like a little ball balanced on the shoulders, you need to make it larger. Don't forget to make the neck thicker and probably a bit shorter so you don't look like a giraffe.
  24. Think of it this way. The shape is the muscles and bones beneath your skin. It supports the skin. The skin provides details to the various parts of your body. It can define muscles in a male. Most complete avis include a shape and at least one skin. There may be more than one offering, for female, different makeups or cleavage detail, and for men, offering muscles and hair options as in facial and body hair. Some providers also include eyes and and clothes, depending on the maker.
  25. Menstuff hunt is free, but there are quite a few gifts in the Menstuff lounge. Men get lucky on this one...the Womenstuff you had to wear the Womenstuff tag to get the gift.
