  1. You'd be amazed at just how shallow, vain and **bleep** retentive the bottom feeders of Second Life can be.
  2. If you're having a flaky router causing issues with dropping packets, relying more heavily on UDP (which doesn't care whether data gets received or not) rather than HTTP which uses TCP (which does care and will retry on dropped packets), disabling HTTP textures will make the problem much worse.

To be fair, a lot of the JIRA bugs are duplicates of other bugs (ie, useless noise), or not fixed because it's a "nice to have" and not something necessary for core functionality, or, and this is the biggest part, because you haven't submitted a patch yet. It's an open source project, so the best way to get stuff you want fixed to get resolved quicker is to propose a solution in code form.
  4. Because the sound is a server-side object, if you don't have it cached, there's nothing to play yet. Newer versions, rather than playing the sound late, will skip it if it's not already cached at the time of the event. In other words, it's working as designed, this is not a bug.
  5. Keep an eye on the Second Life Grid Status or, better yet, subscribe to the Grid Status RSS feed. Plan a second date in case of rain-out. On the grid status page, there's also a Google Calendar letting you know of planned events that may impact availability, doesn't hurt to add that calendar to your Outlook or Google Calendar. Avoid those times.

For a bridge being out (or any other problem with Linden Department of Public Works objects), a support ticket (a.k.a., support case) is the best way to get it fixed. Use Land & Region and then Linden Lab owner Parcel Issues. Michael will also install gaurdrails to keep vehicles out of adjacent properties at the abutter's or road user's request, and will create gaps or remove gaurdrails to allow driveways and private streets to connect.

  8. In the statistics panel (Windows and Linux: ctrl-shift-1), what's your ping and packet loss look like?
  9. Imminent Death of the Grid Predicted! We'll have this story, and tell you if this weekend will be dry tonight on Oklahoma's own News on Six at 10.
  10. Yes, you can. In fact, usually helpful to block so you can deal with the abuse report without the dingbat in your ear.
  11. I usually leave voice turned off. There's a few reasons for this: Vivox software reliability is poor. Vivox server connectivity isn't always reliable. Even when 1 and 2 aren't true, you still have people who leave their mics open, are overamped, and just plain don't care about sound quality polluting the voice channel to the point where it's just unusable pretty much anyplace the public congregates.
  12. That said, it's best to leave the original question in tact so folks know what you were asking, and just accept the answer so people know which one worked for you.
  13. Irene nailed it. The TL;DR version: "Working as designed."
  14. Probably. If it gets posted elsewhere, that'd be prima facia evidence that a violation of the Linden TOS was violated.
  15. The powers that be explicitly want us to choose the viewer that best fits our needs within the context of the terms of service we all agreed to. So, the premise of your question is factually inaccurate.
  16. You wouldn't need to change the network settings in the viewer, your login credentials are cleared anytime your computer's network configuration changes. This can happen when your IP changes, when you connect or disconnect an interface (ie, connecting or disconnecting a wired or wireless network), etc. The "save password" feature is only useful if your network setup never changes (such as desktop computers on stable connections).

  18. Which in itself prevents other people searching for the same topic from finding this thread easily, thus causing an unnecessary duplication of effort for all involved. Boo!
