  1. I tend to disagree; the Lindens routinely ignore abuse reports lately. Not sure if they're understaffed or just stopped caring about holding up their end of the TOS.
  2. When asking a question, don't edit your question to be blank later. That's just poor form.

What should I fix it? Quit changing networks. This is by design to avoid your machine from logging in a stranger as you in case it gets stolen (which will invariably result in a network change).
  4. Seems like this opens the door for fitted clothing, rejecting the whole sizing concept outright.
  5. Penny Patton wrote: What I mean by Philip not understanding immersion is that SL is full of immersion breaking choices made by Linden Lab. The typing sound and animation that play as you type are one of those immersion breakers, they're a reminder of that divide between you and the world you're interacting with. That was partly what I meant by customs and idioms. Not really a combo breaker so much as just part of life in Agni. Penny Patton wrote: I'd also cite the camera placement (which is far too high, like you're an outside observer looking down into this separate world, rather than immersing you in it), the undeveloped sound tools and general lack of sound in Linden environments, and the lack of tools allowing content creators to make interactive experiences (something which, thankfully, seems to be changing). Yeah, the bizarre flycam placement and the overly-favoring of the third-person perspective is definitely hard to get used to, making games like Half Life more immersive, since first person doesn't break the experience like it does in SL.
  6. Penny Patton wrote: There's a fe AO HUDs that let you replace the typing animation with something else. I replaced mine with talking gestures and a friend made a script for me that lets my avatar speak simlish instead of playing the typing sound. I find this to be a lot better. Hopefully, this animation is not the same as your speech gesture when you're on your mic. Really annoying to think someone's typing when it turns out they're talking and you're not on voice. Penny Patton wrote: Philip Linden used to use the word "immersion" a lot in speeches about SL, but I'm not sure he ever quire understood what the word actually meant. How so? SL has developed it's own idioms and customs.
  7. Still, you're expecting persistence on a grid where no such expectation is reasonable.
  8. You're probably hosed; you're supposed to keep your account information up to date.
  9. Ariel Vuissent wrote: AO = Animation Overrider. They affect the way you move - stand, sit, walk, etc. Head to a popular place with a good amount of long-term residents and watch them. Observe how they move. Then observe how you move. Most long-term residents have animation overriders, which gives them smooth movement and more defined body language. Though this has more to do with the animations used and not the AO itself. And server-side AOs don't tend to work in no-script zones. If your viewer has one, it's best to use the AO built into that and just shop for animations; this gives you more flexibility than a prepackaged AO, reduces script load and tends to be less hairy all around. Ariel Vuissent wrote: With no AO, the movements are jerky and stilted. [...] Your walk is very quick and stilted. It's because you have no AO. This tends to be more of an issue for female avatars than male avatars, as the default animations are more masculine than feminine. They also seem to favor males in the normal range of human size. Ariel Vuissent wrote: Your avatar is probably looking everywhere every time you move your mouse, for instance. That hasn't anything to do with the AO, and more to do with viewer settings. That said, being able to look and point by mouse is rather handy in terms of body language.
  10. You can disable typing animations in the preferences, though I would generally advise against this as knowing when someone's trying to say something is an important body language cue in SL.
  11. This is known behavior with Aditi, the Lindens occasionally reimage Aditi from a snapshot of Agni.
  12. Does Viewer 3 suffer from this problem as well? Poorly chosen camera-control shortcuts interfere with some desktop environments (particularly on Linux).

  14. Aren't. Also, I'm guessing you didn't have the proper drivers on Linux if that's the case.
  15. I think the lesson to be learned here is "be less stupid." You are exclusively responsible for the security of your account.
  16. Pretty sure all Classifieds sales are final.
  17. You have Lighting and Shadows disabled.
  18. W7 and Vista aren't incompatible with second life, though Windows in general won't get you the best performance on your hardware in SL.
  19. Sounds like you might need to ask your doctor if First Life is right for you.
  20. Yes, they are local. Your operating system's file permissions would apply, so if everyone logs in as the same user, everyone who uses that computer will have access to your chat logs. Always set a password to your login on your computer and make sure you lock your screen or log out when you're not at it.
  21. In theory, any ping should work. In practice, how long can you think ahead to compensate for that when you're moving? Some activities, like combat, operating vehicles, or safely walking near highways and railways, becomes impossible or exceedingly difficult.
