  3. From a personal standpoint (in case you wanted an actual answer, lol), no, it would not work or be a good idea. I don't like popularity contests even though life often is...or seems...like one giant popularity contest. On a "if it did happen, what should be the criteria" note....these are my criteria Be able to watch chick flicks, and not think they're chick flicks Know how to change a tire, oil, baby diaper, and various home improvement items (all at the same time equals bonus round...TBD) Be eclectic...in all things Wear whatever you want, when you want Look however you want, when you want Not give a carp if others agree with the prior choices (only salmon) Know how to do your own laundry, cook, clean, take care of the yard, butcher a chicken, start a fire 6 different ways, build a rocket, and prepare for disasters of epic proportions (bug out bag , epidemic, natural disaster and zombie protection included) Not be afraid to cuddle Know how to row a boat Play with legos, trains, rc vehicles and bubbles on a regular basis Color, a lot, especially outside the lines Have a great sense of humor, have a dirty sense of humor, have a colorful sense of humor Love animals, all animals, all creatures, without question (exceptions: terrible human beings, and those that make me cry...you can stomp them for me, they deserve it, I'll even let you use my boots, they're way cool and comfy) Play monopoly with me, even though you know I've never lost a game i my life I also demand operation, mouse trap, candyland, connect four, backgammon, uno, hungry hungry hippos, dominoes, ants in the pants, kerplunk, bounce off, cornhole, badmitton, hopscotch, hide and go seek, tag, pac-man, mario kart, marble madness...and any other game I reserve the right to demand later lost my train of thought, I'll have to catch the next one
  4. As much as I would love to say that LL is indeed breaking laws, in some fashion, with regards to not allowing third party "sales"..platforms and methodologies...I can't. They may just barely teeter on the edge of legalities, but I have serious doubts that they actually overstep the line. This might get really confusing...and it's long, and complicated, I may not explain it the best (perhaps someone can clean it up for me and explain it better..I'm having a not fun day)..fair warning. The main reason that I say this, is because SL is wholely owned by Linden Lab(no s), and under no legal obligation to even allow third party anything (viewers, financial capabilities, marketplaces, etc.). Of course sl is a monopoly, right now, all of sl is a monopoly, as there is nothing just like it anywhere in the world, but monopolies aren't illegal in and of themselves, in fact, most aren't. Antitrust laws aren't designed to punish successful companies who happen to corner a market, especially one that literally has no competition. In order to be illegal the company MUST be run on predatory and exclusionary acts that harm companies with similar interests (which doesn't include marketplace alone..it would have to include the whole of sl as a product..so, like opensim for example, and not a marketplace designed for use in opensim..the WHOLE entity matters, not a singular component). Any company could come along and make something just like SL and LL would have no recourse should the other product/company end up dominating over SL (it hasn't happened yet..I won't say it won't happen, but...eh..lots have tried, so..) LL doesn't limit the creation of other products similar to SL. What they limit and disallow is third party creations like the MP-which require explicit use of SL property, and that isn't illegal (anywhere in the world). For it to be illegal, there has to be a legal law in place that disallows it, and there is not. There is no law that says "you have to let people outside of your company provide a product that works within your platform to allow users more choices", because there is no law that says "you have to allow users choices". Unfortunately, antitrust is not what this is. In order to allow the creation, implementation and use of a third party marketplace type solution, LL has to allow a certain amount of access to company (LL's) assets, and that would actually null the legal complaint of monopoly because then that third party solution becomes a partner and/or subsidiary of LL itself..you can't monopolize your own company. If they were under legal obligation to allow third party anything, LL would not have been able to stop people from being able to purchase lindens (money) from third party sellers. It is because disallowing third party sellers/offerings of...(insert whatever, marketplace, money purchasing, etc.) is not a legal requirement of LL, that this was possible. It was fought, and it was fought hard when it first started happening (for many years you could purchase lindens in numerous different places-helpful for people that couldn't use the then existing but somewhat limiting methods). There are also US laws-the very specifics of which I do not remember in their entirety, but it amounts to "fraud prevention" and applies to FAR more than just LL and SL...plus, that's even more complicated) . LL was not found to be breaking antitrust laws then...it most definitely won't fly here (I wish it did). I am not saying I like it any better than anyone else, or that I think LL should keep teetering just on the edge of things. Nor do I think LL makes the wisest decisions (I think all of their decisions surrounding MP are bad, actually, and getting worse and I WISH they'd relinquish control of it to someone that's more prepared..but I digress..). I am simply saying...this is what we have, this is what we have had for years, and there is nothing that is going to change that, or make it illegal, as it stands now.
  5. It's a straight up misunderstanding of how to use filters and an overactive ego of whoever is randomly adding crap to the filter just because. A properly created and implemented filter wouldn't catch words that aren't trademarked or copyrighted at all. Converse is not now, nor has it ever been trademarked or copyrighted, not even when associated with footwear (some consider the latter a grey area, but from a legal standpoint...it's actually not). You can't arbitrarily add words to filters and claim i's for legal purposes...that in and of itself violates copyright and trademark laws
  6. LL refuses to allow third party sites like this. They stopped allowing it when they shut down onrez and took over Slex(which became Xstreet). It won't matter how much we rally, LL will NOT allow this, period. It's been tried several times, LL manages shutting all ideas down before they even get past alpha. LL has big pockets, no one stands a chance at trying to fight this anymore...which is SAD as hell (and makes me angry, I'm sure I'm not alone in that). LL claims it's to reduce potential abuse, potential overcharging of residents, and people skimming off the top but...well...here we are, LL doing exactly what they said they wanted to prevent years ago.
  7. There is a myriad of ways to advertise for free. Charging for one method does not, to me, sound like a punishment, just a piddly revenue stream that probably won't amount to a whole lot of revenue. I'm not a premium member either, so if I had to pay $50L to advertise an event, and I could not afford that amount-or even didn't want to pay it, I would use the free methods available to me both inworld, and out. I find a lot of useful, fun and interesting things to do that way, even just through looking at profiles and doing searches (mostly through searches, inworld and out). Charging residents for advertising, as LL does in different methods already, is a means for them to make money, they always have been. Every single way LL charges us for something, is a means for them to make money. I doubt anyone could reasonably say otherwise, it's a basic tenet of business, really. Don't have to like it...but, you also don't have to use advertising methods that charge. Some of the places in events would stand well on their own without the event listing, as someone else suggested. They may even get more visitors, imo, by avoiding the event calendar until the dust settles, or permanently. They might not too, but I think it's worth a try, and won't cost anyone anything, which may well make it easier for people who really don't have the $L to list multiple events each week. It would be nice if LL could find methods to bring in revenue that didn't come from residents, but I think that's an unrealistic pipe dream, at this point in time. LL doesn't have a good track record in that department.
  8. I don't know if it's still there, I do not use the LL viewer. but if you do, it used to be something in the debug settings.. If you do not have the advanced menu available.. go to Me > Preferences> Advanced Tab > Show Advanced Menu Advanced Menu> Debug Settings> AutoAcceptNewInventory is where it used to be located, as long as you can get the debug popup, you can type in the autoaccept to find it. It's on false by default.
  9. Wtf is it your or anyone else's business why I'm in sl? Sigh. Ahh, so one can only be social in a club, got it. Since you want to know, but didn't ask, I'll answer anyway. I am in sl for all kinds of reasons, and being social is just one of them-I can be social pretty much anywhere, I don't need a club for that. I don't knock people that DO need or even just want clubs for that though. I support and enjoy creators, performers-and I do also include many a Dj in that (I LOVE supporting them, which is why I don't ALWAYS listen tot he radio..see, I can support DJs, musicians performers and even club owners without having to step foot in the club), merchants, sim owners, people that enjoy rp, people that come to sl to socialize, people that come in to learn, people that just come in for fun, people who might struggle with some of these things in rl, people that might struggle socially elsewhere, people that are just bored and need something to do. I come in sl to express and enjoy myself in ways rl doesn't allow for all kinds of reasons and enjoy the things I can, while I can. I come here to make friends, I come here to find friends. I come here to help other people and be helped. I come to sl to enjoy the things that many others can make and do. I come to sl for a lot of things. I'm not going to judge others for what they come to sl for. I'm not going to further address this part, because it's going to result in me saying some really not nice things, that may or may not be deserved...and I'd rather continue to believe you're a better person than your words suggest. So I'm going to believe that you're just pissed off and saying stupid ***** at me, directly, versus an actual problem (event spam-which is what I addressed), because you assumed that my words were a direct attack on you. They weren't a direct attack on you, but he act of spamming-which loads of places do. I apologize you thought it was a direct attack, I thought I was specific in stating it applies to lots of people listing events...apparently, I was not).I get it, you think I don't belong in sl, because you don't understand why people come here. I hope you have a fantastic evening.
  10. Oh good grief. I was a DJ in sl, out of sl elsewhere online, and in rl, for years ( I still DJ in rl, btw.). I am NOT knocking DJs, the hard work they put into things, or how valuable they are...let alone how entertaining, enjoyable, whatever...the actual sets are, in the least, so jump down off that damn horse before you fall, lmao. Read some of the threads associated with the events calendar over the years. Just because other people won't open up and say "yes, your 12 events every single day are getting obnoxious", doesn't mean the people who DO, are necessarily in the wrong. Don't take my word for it, don't even listen to my personal opinion at all...read.the.threads. If you don't want to think like I and countless others (including LL it seems) do, by all means..do whatever and think whatever you like, as you should. It doesn't change the facts, and the facts are that the events calendar has been a bane for a while now, and for whatever reason a drain on LL's resources (according to them, not me), and LL wants to clean it up. They wouldn't NEED to clean it up if people didn't spam it like their lives depended on it. That's not MY opinion, that's just how things are, I suppose. My opinion is that they very well could've prevented a lot of the problems AND allow DJ related event postings at the same time, years ago with proper implementation and monitoring. I'm sure I'm not alone in that. But, what we have here..is a direct result of LL not knowing what to do with one of their products...and people running with it. Now LL wants to fix it, so, good on them for that. I am not antisocial, or necessarily entirely anti-club. I am anti gesturbator and don't mind going to clubs that forbid that crap. It's not the sounds that annoy me, I turn them off. It is the fact that people scream and shout in local, and spam gestures constantly and it hurts my damn eyes to see the text constantly-and it's a PITA to constantly have to make modifications, so I can't enjoy it no matter what. When I worked in clubs, I had a hell of a time back then too now, it's a million times worse. I don't expect others to modify themselves or their enjoyment, I modify my own. So *I* like to listen to these DJs and live singers on my own turf so that I can still enjoy them, can still tip them from a distance-which I always do, and enjoy the experience while appreciating the individual. I'm not telling others what to think, I'm saying, read the complaints if you wan to know why people frown on it...they're all over the forums. General consensus means far more than my individual, or your individual, opinion. It is the general public that uses the events calendar, right? Why not appeal to them s much as possible? If LL didn't see anything wrong with it, they wouldn't be making changes. Although I don't think the charge will actually deter most spammers(it might send a message to some..maybe, but, eh..hard to say), and I think being upset that you don't have yet another free advertising method is a bit over the top..but, that's my opinion and nothing more. LL COULD make a specific category for clubs, and not just night life (LL isn't known for being specific about anything, that's part of their problem, lol)-it might help all involved
  11. If you want to see how the general public- the people you want coming to your "events"- feel about how you're using the events calendar, it would take a few seconds to do a search on the topic, there are lots of threads, and aside form the ones wanting to know how events work, most of them are complaints about how it's being used-hence LL's recent "we've received a lot of complaints"(I think they forgot to check the complaint box about events for the last...lots of years, lol). You'll find most people find the obsessive spamming to the calendar to be ridiculous and obnoxious...regardless of how great the place might be, or the intention of those doing it. There are tools to advertise a specific DJ, host/ess, dancer, etc, especially free, but also not all free, of course...Groups are a wonderful way to do this, and the most commonly used one. If someone wants specific information about a specific person they are far less likely to use the overly spammed events calendar to do that. I have some singers I like, and even DJs, a lot-even though I refuse to go to clubs, I can listen in on their streams whenever it tickles my fancy by using those tools. I use mostly groups, but you also have inworld advertising, profiles, subscribers that don't take up group slots, out of world advertising methods which are most definitely only limited by your imagination, etc.. They are FAR more helpful and are more likely to reach people interested in specific folks. Just because LL doesn't have a specific rule in writing telling you "don't do XYZ", doesn't mean that doing XYZ isn't frowned upon by a lot of people, or won't give the wrong impression. I'm not knocking individuals, or individual places (other than the overly spammy nature, which, frankly, that's ridiculous, that's 12 postings per day if you run 24 hours...come on, that's excessive), but the overall consensus about the events calendar and how it's currently being used (and has been, for, forever) is pretty negative. I'm actually kind of surprised by some of the places that use it for set advertising, because not only do I think it hinders them....lots of others who are far more likely to patronize these places, do too. That's pretty counterproductive, if you ask me, especially for places that generally have a good vibe, atmosphere, reputation, whatever have you without that. I wouldn't want a place I loved and cherished to be lumped in with the likes of most of those other spammy places advertising just as much there every day...your mileage may vary. It just gives off a weird vibe in general, and, for me...nah, it wouldn't sit right. Even when I did DJ if I was ever asked to make an event for all my sets-or if anyone did it for me..I'd actually be miffed, given the bad rep the calendar has had.
  12. They're not events in sl, have never been events in sl, and are one of the biggest contributors to the spewage that has plagued the events thing for years. Between adult clubs and music clubs doing it, they've driven away the vast majority of people that would use the events calendar to find things to do, lol. I didn't say it didn't warrant any advertising, I said it's not an event...because it's not, especially not in this context (which is the important part, but even in rl, a dj's set that happens with regularity, is also not considered an event-it's a set). If people want to consider it a event, or even not but want to advertise it...why should't they have to pay to advertise in one singular place? People have plenty of free ways to advertise things if they'd rather not pay for it-which I totally get. If we want the events calendar used as it is intended, we need to clean up the garbage first. That means weeding out people that will list multiple events a day just for poops and giggles. It actually tends to give people negative opinions about the places before they even give them a chance..it's not a very effective advertising tool for club sets that aren't one-offs.
  13. When I was little, I used to hang out with big country stars at music festivals and concerts-half the time by going places I wasn't supposed to go(being little has its advantages). My parents went to them, and we'd spend a week or weekend camping at one particular place (now closed) where a LOT of music stars performed. Sometimes my parents took me out of school for it, lol. I got to know people like Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, The Oak Ridge Boys, David Allen Coe, Reba, Merle Haggard(who I actually saw again more recently at Riot Fest), Conway, Waylon, Hank Williams...all kinds, really, it would take days to go through them, lmao. Country wasn't even my fav genre, but I LOVED these festivals, so many people, so very exciting and there weren't typically many kids at them. Willie Nelson picked me up one day when I was running around like a barefoot lil fool (different times folks, different times, lol), asked me where my shoes were, sent someone off to go find me shoes and then I sat and listened to him and a few other singers jam for a while. He sent me on my way after that and told me to stop running around barefoot, not stop running around...just stop doing it barefoot. I have a signed bandana of his, and a lot of other memorabilia from that era too. Some of it's worth a pretty penny, but the sentimental value is far greater. I got to play with the globetrotters once...and if you're from Ohio, or maybe even if you're not, you might be familiar with Big Chuck and Lil John-I played with them too, and even got on tv for it. I got a signed picture with Fred Rogers too. He was visiting Idlewild, in PA. It's a theme park and they have Mr Rogers neighborhood of make believe. No one believed me that it was really him, so I made my mom take a polaroid and he signed it (but she still won't give it to me). I lived a weird, wonderful, and pretty exciting life as a kid...it made up for being the really weird kid in school that always got made fun of for pretty much everything.
  14. It's more often than not a requirement that comes from the owner(s)/manager(s), versus individuals coming up with the idea themselves. Any good club/venue won't use the events calendar that way (because it tends to have the opposite effect and annoy the living crap out of people), they use group notices and group chat and things like that-but reserve event listing for an ACTUAL event. Anyone looking through the events can't really (as it stands now) filter things properly to find good events because of the flooding. It's why so many people don't USE the feature anymore, people who think just like OP annoyed everyone away from it (except the people who also use it in the same manner...it's chock full of them, lol) An actual event, is one thing, a "set" at any club in sl, is not an event, never has been, never will be. Most people aren't likely to take issue with even a $50 fee for an event...someone whose venue sets up 4, 6, 10+ events a day may have issue with it...but it's because they're using it wrong-and they're the reason the fee exists now-or will. The cost isn't going to be prohibitive for people that use the events calendar things as intended. Part of the point in changing how they handle things is to remove the idiocy behind thinking you can advertise every set, for every dj/host/dancer(sometimes) combo, completely and utterly for free.
  15. The vast majority of the uses of the events whole...section, has been misused and abused since it came to be. Most people have largely ignored it for quite some time. I don't know a single soul that would dare recommend it to anyone, especially new people. If you're someone that uses the events things correctly, you should be pissed off at the thousands who don't, because it s THEY who are making things worse. Why the hell are clubs using the events thing to advertise a normal set for a club that happens every single (insert whatever, day/week) at the same time, that's NOT an event. Doing stuff like that helps to flood the events and create the very problem they're trying to fix. Advertising every single set, every single day, is an effort to what..bog your sim down so no one can enjoy it anyway? No club needs 10+ events (or even 4+) listed every single day (one per set). That's not using the events calendar right, either, and never has been, it's ne of the things that pisses people off about the events thing. But, there are few places you can advertise much of anything on LL property for free, the fact that events have been up until now is a huge part of the problem.
  16. I would first add the disc to my mountain of AOL discs to be crushed and/or strung up for garden decor purposes. Since it's on the top, I'll probably get around to using it that day. It's not very likely I'd ever watch the disc. I only watch strange discs I trust, or at least ones that come with promises of intrigue, mystery, suspense and comedic gold...sci-fi works too. I trust few people that knock on doors in suits, and trust even fewer that wear blue ones with cult like grins while brandishing shiny things. Save that for the second date, please. When they come back the next day, I would hand them a piece of paper with my required salary, it will be a ridiculous amount, probably in the billions. I'd tell them I'm open to negotiations too, but that I play hardball....at which point I'd show them my hardball uniform (yes, it's a sport). I may or may not answer the door butt nekkid, though. I also may or may not show them whatever creation I've come up with for the lovely disc....I do so love arts and crafts, but strangers are judgy, I'll play that one by ear.
  17. I don't need to behave like a donkey named Jack about ridiculous things either, but good on those that want to, I suppose, whatever tickles their pickle. I like novels, you like forgoing all sentence structure....we're both right as rain Tens of thousands (I suspect closer to hundreds of thousands..but I might be off and I'm not keen on looking it up) of merchants sell on MP. You'd be hard pressed to find even 1% of them that respond to all reviews. That doesn't mean those merchants don't care, that's ridiculous to even suggest, lmao.
  18. That doesn't happen, without A-relisting the item (disallowed listing practice, flag it and LL will remove the item and warn the merchant for doing it-well, they should), which removes all reviews not just bad. There actually are some sellers that do this and get away with it, because people don't follow up and flag them after it happens, or at least not enough people flag them, so people assume the negative review got removed, which isn't the case. There's a seller of a very specific pregnancy related item I wrote a negative review for years ago, which the seller relisted to remove my and other negative reviews. LL still has't gotten around to removing-even though it was relisted(but not actually changed) and has been flagged numerous times. That doesn't happen very often, but I can see that it does sometimes. B-the reviews themselves being flagged by the merchant, then a LL employee looking over the flagged reviews and noting that there is something that breaks the guidelines for it. For example, reviews that rant and rave about stupid crap (I don't like the color, I would rather see XYZ, It would be nice if the seller could change it by doing ABC, other sellers do this that and the other, etc.) but don't actually talk about the problem..those SHOULD be removed. I don't care if I like the merchant or not..those are idiotic reviews and have no place being left there. Reviews that don't even mention the product, its functionality or anything remotely close to an actual product review...those should be removed too. Reviews that rant and rave about the person selling, but not the product..again, removed. Even if the seller is a crappy person, reviews are intended to give an idea about the PRODUCT to future consumers. That's their purpose and if they don't fill that purpose, they don't belong-personal opinions of individual sellers themselves don't matter in this. I buy stuff from someone I actually can't stand all the time, lol. I don't like them as a person, and I take issue with a lot of the things they have said and/or done over the years. But the products they make and/or sell...they stand on their own, and I'm cool with that, especially when I need them for something. I can't imagine leaving a review on anything they sell that amounts to "you're a crappy person". It's just stupid.
  19. I can respect that entirely. I think it kind of goes along with my belief that the responsibility for a good to great experience with any purchase or product doesn't rest entirely on the merchant. I happen to believe that the customer holds the bulk (almost entirety, really) of that responsibility. I think customers that want problems fixed, should seek out the methods to get them fixed and reviews are NOT a good way for that to happen (nor have they ever really been in any capacity, anywhere on the net, anywhere in the world). I can't stand people that ONLY leave negative reviews and then later complain the merchant did nothing. Well, what did those customers do to help themselves? That's right...nothing. Can't expect something for nothing, imo, but that's my view from both a customer and merchant, customer first and foremost, though. I would never leave a negative or even neutral review before first contacting a merchant to see if we can make my experience better. I may just be in the minority on that though. Good reviews I leave all the time, and I don't expect a merchant to do anything when I do (I really do think that expectation that a merchant will do something in return for a good review is asinine...but that's probably offensive to someone, somewhere, lol)
  20. Two things A-The notification system that tells a merchant a review has been left has been mostly nonfunctional for years. It sometimes works, but that's not very common. I'm sure this is in the "to do" bin somewhere at LL, but I doubt it's going to be really addressed or fixed anytime soon. Cut merchants some damn slack..a lot of the problems with the MP are 100% out of their control. B-Why would a merchant need to contact someone after they leave a good review? I mean, what exactly are you expecting, and why? (yes I'm serious, I want specifics) As far as negative reviews are concerned, merchants are under no obligation to contact you after that either but the vast majority of them will, and do. How often do customers contact merchants before leaving a negative review though? I'd be shocked if more than 30% of people who leave negative reviews even contact the merchant first.(and I think I'm being overly generous with the 30%). I have had people leave a negative review MONTHS after they bought something, never once contacting me, and I still have always maintained a high(I think) level of customer service and will still go out of my way to help them and make things right. MOST merchants are the same way...very few don't actually give two craps, most of us care very deeply for what we do, and it's insulting to suggest anything other than that. Why are merchants expected to hunt down customers who leave bad reviews though? Why is the onus on the merchant and not the customer who actually knows what their experience was like? Why are customers not expected to lift a finger to help themselves, but merchants have to bend over backwards to ensure customers have a fantastic experience? Those last two questions may sound catty, but they're not. Customers have certain expectations, as they well should...but merchants aren't allowed to have any because.....well, I don't know, lmao. Thousands and thousands of merchants will keep right on trucking though, because they like, love, may even depend on, what they do. So, again...give merchants some damn slack, the vast majority of them are doing an amazing job. The few that aren't, don't ruin the bunch.
  21. I am going to preface this by saying...I really hope I don't offend you, and I really hope you don't see this as a personal attack, your post just gives me a good jumping off point, and it proves something I mentioned earlier about what people understand and don't understand about the issue many merchants have with the MP and these proposed changes. if I do offend you, I do apologize in advance, I'm not trying to personally offend, but rather address specific points, not people. First 30% is not now, nor has it ever been an industry standard. There is no actual industry for what MP is- because sl itself is pretty damn unique in that regard, but even if there were...30% would be far higher than an industry standard. 15% would be a standard, but for the most part, it actually tends to be more along the 10%-15% range in comparable industries (though, again, hard to compare MP to something that it's not like). You don't understand why people are complaining, because you're not reading the complaints. You're not alone, a lot of people aren't reading them, and part of that is because mine are too lengthy. It's hard to describe an actual problem in only a few words that everyone will "get". I keep telling people to please read all the threads, but seems no one wants to, and that's a huge part of the problem. This is about SO much more than just the fee increase. I see mostly people who are all for it and have no issue saying "I don't mind the fee, I don't know why people are complaining about the fee. The fee is necessary"....and I see very few people who have issues with the new changes saying anything about the fee. Most people don't give two craps about the fee. I don't know why supporters of the changes are putting so much damn emphasis on a friggen fee. But...sigh..that's my problem, not others' problem lol. (the fee is insignificant compared to the problems...hence why I take such issue with people continuing to mention the fee like it's all people should complain about). The other thread(s) talk about fees way more and why they're problematic for some, so those folks can probably offer you better insight on that bit. But, let's pretend for a moment that lots of others do have a problem with the fee. I'll try to explain this better. Since you want to compare it to amazon, google, etc..I'll do that too (not comparable, but I'll roll with it and behave myself). If you were a seller on one of those platforms, and the owners of the platforms decided to make the service they allow you to pay them to use(because they do, as they should) sub-par, not function properly, get worse (than it's ever been), remove your items(or store entirely) without telling you or telling you how to fix it...then when you do figure out something is wrong they then tell you to find the problem item(s) yourself, make a ticket for each and sit and wait for the to decide if they can help you with it (typically not)..and then, to top it off, tell you they want you to pay them more for this.....are you gonna be happy? No No reasonable, intelligent person can see a problem like that and say "gee wiz ma, well by golly, let me pay these folks more because...oooo-weee they did a number on me, but they deserve more money to screw me over more". I mean, that sounds ridiculous, any way you slice it, lol. NO other platform, like the above mentioned, would EVER get away with ***** like this...none. People simply wouldn't have it, and the pitchforks would be out like light'nin bugs on a summer's eve. Those companies would be dragged through the proverbial mud, and, frankly, it would get nasty. (human nature being what it is) You see, it's not JUST the fee, it's not even mostly the fee, it's not the amount, it's not that they want and need to charge more, it's not that people don't want to pay more. People are more than willing to pay these fees..most of us..even if they don't like it, might grumble slightly, they'll pay it. What they want, is the damn service they're paying for to function at a basic level, preferably better, and not constantly have more and more problems. At its base level, MP isn't functioning right (from a merchant standpoint only, individuals can decide if it's functioning right for them as shoppers, but merchants can ALL be plagued by the same problems, even if they may not currently be...we're all in that boat together), even when it's working, that doesn't mean it's working right. There are other things amiss that need addressed before people should be accepting any fee increase. Not because the fee increase isn't deserved, but because the service we have now, isn't worthy, and we should want better. We know better, we should do better, it's not a difficult concept. As for LL making the MP..bwaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaa No LL bought/took(different opinions vary on this, lol) the MP, shut down any possible other, much better., more functional version prior to now, so they could hold all the cards. I mean, good on them for it, it was a smart business move on their part. But the problem is, they don't know how to best run this particular asset of the company, and, it seems, aren't interested in ideas on how to improve it beyond some minor things that have almost no effect, to actually no effect, on the real problems. They help, sure, they improve, sometimes...but they haven't yet fixed a problem. They're making problems, it's really not hard to see that if people would read some of the threads about it. Super easy to find, super easy to read, super easy to see...something ain't right. I promise I'll try to be quiet on this issue now, it's just really frustrating to me that people can't see it's not always about the damn fee...sometimes, it's the friggen service itself. Sigh I know I've been annoying about this issue, but it's one that really chaps my hide, especially after helping quite a few merchants, new and old, figure out wtf they did wrong to get their stuff removed....and it wasn't even them. It's hard to watch people so passionate about creating, and being a merchant, and getting up and running, or perhaps finally doing well....and then BAM...proverbial peniii cacti to the face. I hate seeing people back off creating for stupid reasons. Creation has been sch a massive part of my slife, for over 11 years now. I want to see more creators, more merchants, more people selling on mp, more people buying on sl...not less. I can't do jack all for myself to help my own creation process continue, and it sucks, a lot, and I hate it, and I can't come to terms with it, lol, so I instead try to put my energy into others, and helping them, and getting them going, and...whatever I can, because it's something. It makes me angry to see asshatery like we've seen as of late that threatens the very livelihood of creation, and selling on the MP, I can't apologize for that, it just makes me angry, and very passionate about something I think is super important. Maybe folks on the forums don't see it that way, but I know a hell of a lot of people inworld do, so, at least I know I'm not entirely crazy (just mostly)
  22. You seem to be under the impression that I somewhere in my statement said that sl can't run on mobile devices. I said, nor even implied, any such thing-that would be a stupidly asinine thing to say, because of course it can. However, the mobile device uses we have had/have, had/have limitations and did not run sl in its "full" stae, or entirety- or whatever term you want to use to call it, because it requires specific modifications made first. To take that a bit further, I do not believe LL has the resources, currently, to make such a move, because they're busy doing damage control as it is regarding certain, admittedly all but failed at this point, projects and trying to maintain and increase the current value of the project that is sl. Simply put....they ain't got time for mobile device use development, atm. You are, very much, comparing sneakers to pineapples if you are even attempting to compare what sl is NOW to what avakinlife is NOW. They are not comparable, even if both can be modified and/or changed to be more like the other (I never said otherwise), or run on similar devices. The heavy modification that is needed, is one reason they cannot be compared properly (or truthfully), but the main reason boils down to assets and components which are 100% not comparable between the two. Anyone who has played both can tell that, lmao.
  23. Have you ever actually played avakinlife? I assure you, it is NOTHING like sl, it has requirements (of the system it's being used on) nothing like sl. The content is all specifically optimized and made for that app and that app alone. While yes you can do a lot of things, you can't do remotely half the things it's advertised as (I'm not knocking it-it's a nice app, I know loads who use it, it has its merit and that's noteworthy in and of itself) allowing. Not every aspect of that game is "live" at the same time. Let me explain that part a bit better (and I am NOT debating whether one method is better or the other, it's irrelevant)l). In sl, for the most part, all regions are always up (not including any that might be temporarily down for whatever reason, or only come up seasonally/for events). That means they are always live, and always, to some extent, using resources. A huge portion of the somewhat comparable counterpart in avakinlife, is not. There are areas that are only "up" or "live" specifically when in use, otherwise...think of them as being closed, lol. The mere content of avakinlife is nothing like it is in sl, like, really, really, really not comparable, at all. You're comparing sneakers to pineapples.
  24. I'm honestly not sure why anyone would come to the conclusion that a fee increase, in and of itself, is going to be problematic for most people (whether or not they like it is irrelevant, it's neither mutually inclusive or exclusive with being problematic). I haven't talked with anyone that actually has a problem with the fee-very few commenters have even mentioned it, let alone took issue with it. Every single person I've talked to takes issue with the fact that MP is not functioning, at its base core, properly, and is getting worse, not better. Fees and increased costs are most definitely part of business, and I don't think any business owner, even a hobbyist, would not get that part, or not understand it. The fee coming to fruition before necessary fixes, however, is very problematic, as the problem is only going to get worse, with or without the fee increases...so precisely who does that fee increase help? One would presume it helps LL, but even that wouldn't be correct when the court of public opinion (and in few cases is it actually important, but here..on this..it is) determines that LL, and by trickle down, the MP and merchants selling there, aren't worth the time and effort to figure out. The fee increase isn't going to help LL understand the problem they caused, or are causing. The fee increase isn't going to magically fix the actual problem all by itself. The fee won't magically make any of the issues that people have with the MP at all go away, at all, lol. I absolutely think they should charge appropriate fees, and am surprised they haven't until now. But I don't think they should charge more while giving less, or sub-par products. That doesn't make a lick of business sense no matter how you slice it, lol. That's not a "suck it up buttercup", things change, kind of thing. That's like your ISP throttling you intentionally so as it give you very poor service (while also telling you that you need to not only find the problem, but send them in a detailed help ticket so they can get back to you later and possibly correct it), while raising your rates to do it (not the greatest comparison, but..similar enough). Let's not pretend that LL doesn't make money off the MP, they don't run the MP out of the goodness of their hearts. They do it as a strategic business move...and good on them for it...but we should expect better. The MP has already seen merchants leave, because this latest bout of issues got the response from LL of "find the problem that we caused (but didn't tell you about, so you won't know if it happened to you until you look for it), for us, send us one ticket for each and every item we removed erroneously, and we'll get back to you on possibly fixing it". I'm not sure what part of sections of stores and entire stores were removed recently..because of the word "leg" is difficult for people to understand...but that's a whole hell of a lot of tickets, lol. That's also a whole hell of a lot of responsibility put on the shoulders of merchants that isn't their's to bear (and if we're going to use comparisons to other services, it most definitely isn't in ANY other service even remotely similar to MP, lol) Costs of doing business range from nothing to a whole hell of a lot. Not everyone is cut out for it, and I really don't understand the "don't like it quit" mentality from people who A-don't seem to understand the real problem has little to do with fee increases themselves, but come from a functional point of view and B-aren't willing to admit that perhaps it is LL who has no damn business being in the MP business themselves, lol. MP doesn't, and won't, get better by kissing ass.
  25. I put very little faith in this actually being enforced like this, given that Dakota herself has told people to flag these things in threads since the change was made, particularly quite ornery ones that ended up getting removed because...well, some people got a wee bit too ornery in them (doesn't happen super often in the merchant forums, but it does happen). Even if it is the policy now (I thought it was as well, also because of the same thread and the blog post it refers to), it still has buck all to do with the actual issues at hand (ok maybe just imo, lol) I still wouldn't give this advice to any merchant on the basis that LL can't even keep their own ***** straight and could change things again at a moment's notice if they so chose (which I respect, their mp, their rules)
