  1. Today's peeve.... Being giddy about my new book and being told...that's for toddlers... FFS, you really think I don't know that? It's still an awesome book, and I"m glad I get them, and you can shove your holier than thou can read normal books just fine self right into your own lower rear orifice for all I care My new book (and yes, I get these frequently, they're a godsend, I have a whole library, a few I have gotten duplicates, which I send them to a school for special needs children)
  2. As a mostly blind person....I friggen loathe when people use that as an excuse to type in all caps. Seriously, there are few, very few, instances wherein adaptive capabilities do not exist, or can't be used. When you have vision issues, the onus for finding and using them properly is on you, end of. I mean you can always politely ask people who are using conventions that make even adaptations difficult to use (like some kinds of colors, fonts, etc..are just generally difficult, especially on certain backgrounds, lol) but ffs find a way to not textually scream everything, it's annoying af. Sometimes I'm too lazy to use adaptive methods, so I get it, but that doesn't mean textually screaming everything is a good alternative. It's a piss poor excuse too because it's not *actually any easier to see than using capitalization at the beginning of a sentence, if you can't see the a in And, then how the hell can you see the a in AND any better...it's the same damn letter! Those passive aggressive defenders of textual screaming, are often way worse than the actual offenders too. All I want to do when I see that is to tell them to find a rusty spork, climb back on that high horse, sit, and spin, because they're NOT helping the situation any. But I don't, because then I'd get my hand slapped, and banned...and stuff. I'm not an angry person, I promise :D
  3. I don't mean to make light of your peeve (really, because i feel ya, necklaces have always been a PITA for me), but...if you maybe want to feel a wee bit better about it, or just have a laugh at my expense..... I misread the first word of your post as neckfaces. Don't ask why I didn't question that being a thing, I just didn't. I read the whole thing under the premise that you were discussing whatever a neckface is, and the visual of someone's neckface being swallowed up by their various body parts about had me in a fit. I also can't tell you what a neckface looks like, apparently my brain has censored whatever that image is, while simultaneously having me lmao about it, for my protection, or some such nonsense.
  4. Would I be a horrible mother if I said almost these exact words to my kids? Probably, if you ask some people...but, if I'm going to hell, at least I'll have good company
  5. Nods....Water conservation is important!! We do our part as often as possible That may or may not be the direction Lindal was headed in...
  6. I dunno...part of that sounds an awful lot like fun. I won't dismiss the car show part without having a good read over that documentation first!
  7. I've done it twice, respectively. Once in 2006, and again in 2008 (with this av). In both instances it was done because I forgot the login information for both older accounts, which I wasn't really attached to at all to begin with, since I only really did a smidgen of exploring on either. Sl didn't hold a whole lot of appeal to me back then, lol, I had more important things to deal with. Both have since been deleted by LL as far as I know and I have no interest in bringing either back (and, again, still don't remember their info anyway, lmao). I wouldn't do it again though, I have one alt, and even she doesn't log on anymore and hasn't for a long time. If I were to start all over with another account I'm sure I would. It would probably depend more on why I was restarting. But, like I said, I have no interest in making any other avs, haven't done so since 2008. I don't particularly care in most cases. People can do whatever they want. I can only think of one case where I turn into judgy mcjudgerson about someone creating a new av, and it's the circumstances behind why they did so (and what they did on their old av) that makes me judgy, and deservedly so. That person was, is and will always be, an asshat of epic proportion, criminal really. Anyone else..eh, do whatever tickles your pickle, not my business at all I do know loads of people that have multiple avs, some to get away from old crap, some just because they wanted something new, some just for alt's sake, some....who knows. I honestly don't put a whole lot of thought into it. In nearly all cases (minus aforementioned, or if I knew of any other similar circumstances, of which I'm sure there are some)....not my circus, not my monkeys.
  8. Peeves today: The grey cat from a couple roads over or so that keeps taunting my fat cat. It's mostly only because I keep hearing weird noises only to realize it's him pawing on a window. He's behind the vertical blinds, in the lower sill, behind a box, and the noise echos weird from there......And also his owners for letting him be an outdoor kitty, it's not safe uCertify, because their tech team sucks donkey nuts and apparently needed (and needs) to be told, repeatedly, that whatever server is hosting their assets is throwing errors and has been doing so for almost four weeks now. I got an auto-response, yesterday (around 2am, definitely out of their business hours) from an inquiry made two weeks ago. It, obviously, doesn't address the issue, even remotely, and it has a lot of spelling errors too................................. That apparently had to go on its own line, lmao
  9. Here...it means not holy at all elsewhere...use your imagination (we have a creative bunch here, it could mean just about anything, lol)
  10. I'm NHAA. You may pronounce that however you wish, to me, it reads naaaaaaaaaaaaaa, but, with, like, deep emphasis.... from your chesticles. That's not completely accurate everywhere, only here on the forums, I do have holes, they simply have no business on, and want nothing to do with, the forums
  11. I didn't say it was a suggestion, lol. But it was what was mentioned, and it's often used as an icebreaker. In some threads, it actually has been suggested to be used as an icebreaker (something the person is wearing, that is). I'm simply explaining why that may not always be nearly as successful of an icebreaker as some people think. I feel awkward when people try to talk to me about clothes out of the blue, I really do. I hardly think saying "thanks" to what I assume the person thinks is a compliment they are giving me, is rude. Some people seem to think it is, or not replying at all is rude. It's quite the opposite for me. When I say it, I'm trying to be polite and avoid awkwardness, not be rude.
  12. I don't give a rat's left nut about fashion. If someone sends me a message commenting on something I'm wearing (not likely, I make it a point to only change once or twice a year, if even), positive or negative, odds are good they're probably going to get a "thanks" from me , if I comment back at all (which I make a concerted effort at doing, even if it's an hour later when I'm not afk, not building, not otherwise busy, whatever). If someone asks a question about something I'm wearing, which is even less likely, I'll do my best to answer, but that's not necessarily indication that the person on the other end wants to have a conversation about it, either. I most definitely don't want to discuss fashion lol. Fashion isn't my thing, I'm not in sl to play barbies and dress up, I wear clothes because I'm not comfortable wandering around in sl in my pixel birthday suit, and that's pretty much the only reason lol. Context is important and maybe the context some people use to send messages to others isn't of any ACTUAL interest (directly, indirectly, at that very moment) to the person they're sending that message to. I try to converse with people who converse with me, but the assumption that we're all, or even mostly, here for the same thing right out the gate is more than a bit, wrong. It also often leads to "where are all the people, why doesn't anyone want to talk to me" kinds of questions. Even people who might share some interests aren't all in sl for the very same thing at any given moment. I don't use social media the same way lots of others do either, and people who think everyone does bother me...the same way people who think everyone is in sl to always be social or play dress up bother me (not tremendously, but enough). I mostly use sl for creative and exploration purposes, really. My social activities, those unrelated to those two purposes, are mostly reserved for the forums. (ie: I talk mostly to creators and those that want to be inworld, and that's about the end of my social iworld involvement, lol) Sometimes a "thanks" or even non-reply at all, is the best way to end what would likely be an otherwise awkward discussion for at least one of us. It's not usually my flavor of awkward or odd (ie fashion, which I find incredibly boring), so I'll nope myself right out of it on my own terms. If that bothers people, maybe they should find something better to chat me up about.
  13. While there may not be a "legal"(I'm using that in as loose of meaning possible, really) reason not to sell items you received for free, some people may have a moral/ethical dilemma with such. That's most likely where a lot of commentary you'll receive on the matter stems from. ME, personally, I wouldn't sit there, for hours by your own admission, just to get free things with the intent to sell them. For me, and me alone, that would be an unethical (again by my own definition for me and myself and I alone) thing to do, and would make me feel very uneasy, regardless of how much of my own time I willingly volunteered to the venture. Giving items away that I don't need, whether or not the creator had put that caveat in, I might struggle with too (for reasons that mean nothing to anyone except me, lol), but at least if I did, it wouldn't be to profit. I have actually in the past asked creators if they're okay with this. Some laugh at me when I ask, but it's a thing for me so...lol. No one's ever had an issue with it, though I've had some say "just please don't sell it", and i can't see any reason to go against what I find to be a very reasonable request. It's not like I'm depending on those few pennies I might've gotten to feed my rl children.... I wouldn't think that creator shady for making such a request (in a EULA or not). I would, in fact, consider someone who intentionally gets something for free, to then sell it for profit, to be a bit closer to the shady side of things (again, personal compasses playing a large role in that, as judgmental as it sounds). That doesn't make me, you, or anyone else right, wrong, or indifferent, though, lol. Clear as mud isn't it? Creators that offer items with transfer perms are well aware that others may sell those items, even if they're not comfortable with them doing so, they're not stupid and they realize you can. Some probably don't care, some might care a great deal but also realize that at some point you may find someone who has better use for that item so they opt for setting those perms because it's a common practice and they'd rather see their wares get used and not stuffed into an inventory for ages (or thrown away), so they find themselves in their own little pickle, as it were. At any rate if the question is "does a creator actually have recourse should I go against their EULA?" the answer is both yes, and no, it's situationally dependent, entirely. I think the question most people would ask, however is "should people go against a creator's EULA/request, just because they can"-and that's a personal question only individuals can answer.
  14. "So, how ARE people finding SL?" I sneak them in under my trench coat. I suspect the vast majority, as has been the case for well over 16 years now now, find sl via word of mouth from someone else. LL is terrible at advertising, absolutely horrendous, actually. It has long been my belief, and until I see evidence suggesting otherwise, that LL is the main reason more people don't find sl, join, and/or, stay. We, the people (for those of us who are people*), however, are quite the opposite. Some suggest this is by design and intentional on LL's part, because too much growth = more necessary work on their part in order to meet the basic needs of all participants of sl, and that just can't happen, for reasons. I may or may not agree on some levels with those some, but that's probably a discussion better had somewhere else. *I'm not a people, though I am human.
  15. I didn't say that specific post did, it has to do with the TOPIC of this thread, though. My later post refers specifically to your topic, however. No,it's not, maybe to you it is because you wouldn't do it, but it's not nearly as odd as you think. What's odd, to me, and probably other people (as already pointed out, that probably is a definite) that buy fp or make fl stuff, is that your first thing to do was jump to "OMG it's an alt, doing nefarious things". I've been a fp creator, I buy from fp creators...your approach to someone giving you money for your goods is weird af to me. I don't need to, the community standards for here already does that We're not allowed to do it, regardless of who we are, or why we're doing it. You sure are, and you should do so. Your claims have nothing at all do with that protection, though. I am 100% for protecting one's work, at all times. I support that, and I stand by that support of creators. Like claim they know things they don't, or can't, and try to cause trouble for other people after profiting off them, even. Like I said, I've been there, I've had a creator here who also used to sell fp stuff (probably still does, at least I hope so, that person did do fabulous work) go batpoop crazy because I bought several items that they were selling. I was accused of everything in the book....for no real reason, lol. That used to be my favorite fp creator too, I was kind of sad when that ended. I'm a mere peon, not even a cog in the machine, really, so, that person's loss of my sales will have likely meant stuff all to them. It definitely meant way more to me though, as the purchaser, accused of sinister things I didn't do. Making wild claims against people just because you and that person have some kind of tiff between you, won't bode well for either party, honestly. It's more likely to get your own self blacklisted by people who would otherwise purchase your stuff. Hell I own some of your stuff too, not that it should matter, as my opinion definitely does not matter in the grand scheme, and certainly never would matter more than the opinion of another. I wouldn't have ought anything of yours if I didn't think you were a good creator, no one would. I don't think people are going around buying your wares simply to piss you off, that's a bit far fetched lol. I'm just saying things like that tend to backfire and make others who would likely shop for fp stuff avoid you like the plague out of fear that should they buy more than one item, or also be a fp seller themselves...they'll be next on the list (or worse, lumped in with that. eh hem "gang", lol)
  16. So your complaint here...let me get this right....adjusts my screen a bit more..... Your complaint here is that someone dared to go to your store, use their own money, buy your goods, and give you money for them. ..... and that's questionable? I know I'm blind and all, but what the actual puck, am I missing some words on the screen? Help a gal out, someone, anyone, Bueller, Bueller..... Two things first, though 1-Naming and shaming here is never okay, the lindens don't give a rip who you are, how often you come here, or why you're doing it. It's a no-no for us all. That's gonna get your hand slapped, and you already knew that. 2-As someone who, quite extensively, invests money in the FP creations of others, most especially mesh because...well, yeah me and blender are very much NOT bed buddies..I guess I can thank you for giving me a name to never go to again (that wouldn't be the other person, btw, in case you were wondering) Sometimes these alt discussions lend an awful lot of information to the readers. Sometimes it's pure entertainment, and sometimes it's educational. Never before has it left me scratching my head, while simultaneously laughing. I am, however, owed a new screen, and cleanup in aisle four because I have Dr Topper (yes that's not a typo) all over my desk. You're literally doing to someone else what someone has done to me, and I'm NOT a FP creator, but someone who has been accused of not only being, but having, multiple alts. You sure you don't have alts yourself? I'm pretty sure what you've said here, I've read verbatim somewhere else, lol. Wait, maybe you're the alt. Maybe we're all the alts. Oh no, we're all doomed!
  17. My display name in sl is Tari Bravin, has been since we got display names. I was recently accosted by, erm...a person I presume...about both having and being an alt. Why? because there is an av named Tari Bravin. That's happened numerous times, but hasn't happened in some years, until recently. I've had people from the forums do it too, lol. (ETA) A creator here has done it numerous times, because I've bought a lot of their things, and apparently me giving them money is a bad thing, and I'm surely up to no good when I do it. Apparently someone contacted her (clarified: my Tari alt) about something regarding their partner(sl, or rl, I don't know), and when she didn't respond, said person took a short walk off a high cliff into looneyville over it. That av is also me, she's my only alt and was made for creating, testing and to fix ghosting (see: one of my previous posts in this thread, lol) issues LL was (at the time) having difficulties eliminating. She is now, has always been, and will remain, a system av with a severely limited inventory and an AOL email address for any offlines. In fact, she's only ever been present on three regions, ever, in her entire existence. I don't even remember her rez date, but I'm pretty sure it's late 2008-ish. I've been called all kinds of people over the years, most of which I am not even remotely familiar with, so would have no inkling why someone would want to hunt them down. But I suspect it's that whole paranoia of the grey matter infection that can wreak havoc on the human psyche. I can't help but laugh when it comes up, then laugh harder when the topic of alts gets revisited here. Some of y'all are really, really, super, super bad at hunting down alts, especially people that think they're good at it. I'm just saying.....
  18. I understand that, I was explaining where the question (and similar ones people are asking, regarding security, about it) came from. LL doesn't really "vet" any beyond taking a rather shallow look around (for specific things, of course) and then... "ok, you're compliant from what we can see right now", "do you plan to stay compliant? If so, pinky promise you will, and we'll add you to the list". Then they go hands off until or unless you, or your viewer, cause problems for them. Not everyone in sl seems to understand this, some do assume that being on that list means LL put the TPV(and its staff) through some kind of in depth approval process. Or, at least, some people that were chatting in a group about it seem to think that, lol. I fully support LL and their approach. As a TPV exclusive user (can't stand the LL viewer, lol) I understand their approach, accept that all risk falls on my shoulders, and also accept the fact that the whole approval process is as minimal as LL can possibly get away with, by purposeful design. This always has been the way, it ain't changing, and I'm cool with that,, definitely not knocking them, you or our viewer I'm quite certain it will come in handy for a lot of people.
  19. I was mostly curious as to how SL maintains your connection information within the viewer itself if the device through which you're connected changes (ie, go into the about section to see one's system information) If the system changes, that information should change as well. It seemed doubtful it could change so seamlessly without presenting some potential security issues, and without a new login instance that records that information and sends it on to the LL servers. I appreciate you taking the time to respond, thank you. However, this last bit here.... LL doesn't "approve" TPVs, you merely approve yourselves and provided you don't do anything that would otherwise put yourself under a microscope, LL largely stays out of the process. TPVs approve themselves by saying "yes, we agree to follow the rules", and then, doing exactly that, following the rules. There is no rigorous approval process required, nor does LL regularly check for compliance, they only check when there's concern of non-compliance being reported (and they won't put the TPV on the list if they fail to agree to the terms). They're by and large, hands off when it comes to TPVs, whenever possible, lol. (though, they could learn a lot from some of them)
  20. Government phones are available in all states (to qualifying households that follow whatever guidelines are set up by the provider they get it through), that's a federal thing. The things that vary on them are whether or not data is included (the phones are provided by phone providers, like Qlink, Safelink, Assurance, Life Wireless, etc.) and how many minutes and/or texts. It's not really an Obama phone, people just call it that, because they became more widely used and implemented as a policy when he was in office and the name stuck lol. With the phone you get a certain number of texts and/or minutes and possibly some limited data. It's not a lot, but it's plenty for those that truly need it, and a godsend at that (and similar things exists in other places of the world, as well, they just differ a bit). I'm glad things like that do exist. But, often times people confuse that with "OMG they don't pay for phone service....", especially outside of the US, lol. The only reason Trump wants a "trump phone" is so he can slap his name on something else that has nothing to do with him and claim he's doing some good, lol. He didn't institute them and couldn't really even if he wanted to, because that program already exists.
  21. It's ALWAYS worth asking, because of course various discounts for all kinds of things exist all over the world and have for ages. It's worth looking into, no matter where you live. I commented on the idea that we all pay less for internet in the US, and the belief that we have a lot of programs for cheaper internet for people with lower incomes, when we don't really have what people think, or are told, we do.
  22. I have a question, and it's probably a stupid one (and doesn't necessitate exact specifics as I realize that's a bit of a look behind the proverbial curtain, so...cliff's notes perhaps?) How can your service allow users to switch between devices, without logging off, when it would require multiple instances of the same credentials, even if only temporarily? I have always been under the impression that this is, or should be, an impossibility for any client (and I haven't yet found any other client that can, or will, do such, so one could presume it may be some kind of requirement, even if only as another security measure). Like I said, I realize specifics would be a peek behind the curtain and totally not necessary, I just see this as a potentially serious security risk (multiple logged on instances simultaneously of pretty much any services/things increase security risks, sometimes exponentially, and often require numerous prevention methods..like..not doing it) although others may not see it as such. I can see it being problematic and can fully understand why others might consider it to be an unnecessary risk. It might help ease that concern if people understood how multiple instances on multiple devices (which in and of themselves are going to vary widely as far as security is concerned), of the same credentials isn't a risk, perhaps. I do hope it works out wonderfully for all, both end users and the company, I"m certain it's a service people will enjoy
  23. For those that don't know, AT&T are liars (that's not snark towards you, but rather, them). They're some of the people blowing smoke up people's butts about the services available to people with a lower income. They provide internet service in 21 states (or parts of them) in the US. Of those 21 states, not even 1/4 actually offer this program (in the states where available, it's only available in certain parts, not state wide, it's actually very, very limited). AT&T is my phone provider (and I'm not fond of that fact, but, limited choices), and they provide internet service in my state . Access is not available here, and never will be, according to them. You are right, it's always worth asking and looking, and people should, because you never know. I'm just saying the belief that the US pays less for internet is absolute hogwash, because we generally don't, and we often have far inferior service(s) compared to a lot of other countries where things like fiber optic is more prevalent.
  24. They did in fact lower them, not raise them, and have not raised them, in ages. Land is easier to own now than it used to be, and cheaper. Cost of living tends to go up pretty much everywhere in the developed world, even if it may seem stagnate at times. Personal perceptions play a very large role to what one deems "affordable". For instance, people living in a state here with a lower cost of living, that then relocated to a state with a higher cost of living, would, surely, struggle, unless their income actually met that higher cost of living (and quite often, it does not, but, I digress..). Despite what many think about the unemployment rate and job availability in the US right now..there are still PLENTY of areas that struggle with unemployment. Where I live, happens to be one of them, which is something that a LOT of people don't realize is actually still pretty prevalent in all of the areas it has been for years. It is areas that were not struggling as much which have, slightly, improved...not all of us. That's a bit of a red herring, at best, and I'm not going to get into a political tit for tat on why people are falling for that hook line and sinker....Fact is, unemployment isn't up everywhere, or even most of the US, just *some* places (and most of those some are big enough to register on a radar..the rest of us aren't yet blips), and for *some* people, that's enough...apparently, lol. We COULD be in a unique situation, absolutely, the problem is..we aren't, and we most definitely won't be any time soon. In fact, we're pretty damn reliant on a LOT of imports and it's kind of screwing us...well, most of us. I have absolutely no idea where you got this. Yes, we don't pay phone line charges directly without having a phone (but we do still pay for the infrastructure of such), but that's the only accurate part of that statement. We pay out the butt for internet in most places, very few instances can one find decently priced (imo, others' opinions vary on decently priced) internet. While yes there are very, very few instances where one might be able to find something more affordable...there really aren't any "oh, you're poor, we'll charge you less for internet" deals going on here and I think a lot of the people that say there are, are blowing smoke up people's butts on that one. It's been proposed, many, many times, that is offering internet service at a discounted rate for people who fall below the poverty line (because of the myriad of benefits the internet brings) but there isn't a single ISP in my state that does this (and they're all national ISPs so, the same would be true in every state in which they sell). Where I live, the internet sucks, and it's expensive to boot, lol. This isn't even available for most of the US, only 33% of the US has the potential for capability, but not yet all of the infrastructure in place even in those areas (and trust me, we all need it!). It's mostly only available in bigger cities, though even those areas are limited because of other infrastructure problems, lol, (that should tell you something about the kinds of services we can get). There are very large portions of the US where internet capability is even more limited, and you'd be lucky if your dsl can even get online a couple days every week..(and I'm not exaggerating, that's actually true). Loads of places in the US have no internet capability at all. Some of the fees you pay, that we don't, are because you have an infrastructure we don't (and I'm not saying I necessarily agree with your fees either, just saying they do go, in part, to pay for that). If we had a better infrastructure, we'd have to pay for it too. Then there's another wrench to throw into the "better infrastructure=higher costs" plan. We pay a lot more where I live for certain things than others do in other areas, and those others have a much better infrastructure than we do here. You'd think the nicer, the well maintained infrastructure should come at a higher cost because it offers more (read: better) to the end user, and not only requires but actually receives, more maintenance. But, nope, we pay more, for less... (if you're confused, join the club, I hate it too, lol) I meant what I said earlier though, that you really can enjoy yourself in sl on a limited rl budget (or none at all), if you want to put the effort in, and the forums is a really great place to start looking for ideas, I mean, if you want them (and that you goes for anyone). I'm not even going to say "don't have a homestead", because even if you never bring a bit of rl money into sl, you can rent, you can make money, you can buy the things you want to buy, and you can truly enjoy sl. Just like rl, it's going to take some effort, but it's absolutely doable, for anyone, and everyone. I am sure a lot of people in sl understand what it's like to have a limited rl budget, and why they understand doesn't even matter, just that they do. Yet, tons of people are enjoying sl right this very minute, and a whole lot of them don't put money in.
