  2. You seem convinced that the official viewers can't possibly have any of the same issues any other viewer can. I assure you, you're 100% mistaken. Nothing is 100% absolute. Even the official viewers have had their problems, including hackers. You really should let go of the whole CDS and sort of junk. It's lived it's life. It was a good life, but now it's over. Let it rest in peace. Usually I'm the wordy one getting told to cram it cuz I talk too much But I think you've got me beat.
  3. Innula Zenovka wrote: Nude photos are, I am sorry to say, automatically adult content: According to the KB Article The Adult designation applies to Second Life regions that host, conduct, or display content that is sexually explicit, intensely violent, or depicts illicit drug use. A region must be designated Adult if it hosts, advertises, or publicly promotes: Representations of intensely violent acts, for example depicting death, torture, dismemberment or other severe bodily harm, whether or not photo-realistic (meaning that images either are or cannot be distinguished from a photograph). Photo-realistic nudity. Expressly sexually themed content, spaces or activities, whether or not photo-realistic. We broadly define what is "sexually themed" to include any sexually oriented activities and conduct. So while nude images of avatars are usually ok, because no one is normally going to mistake an image of an avatar, no matter how "photorealistic" the skin is said to be, for a real photograph, actual photos of nude people are Adult content. I seem to remember someone complaining in the old forums that parts of her art collection -- copies of photographs that were on display in major galleries in RL -- had been returned shortly after the Adult Content policy was introduced. Certainly nude photos, if they are, in fact, photos, should be on A land. I remember that and I'm pretty sure that person was on PG/G land, or the gallery was. I know a couple of other art spots got closed, or moved, when the changes took place for the same reason. To avoid having the items removed.
  4. Usually bans for profile misuse are done because someone reported it. LL hardly has the time, or desire, to actually police them on their own. So, most likely, someone AR'd the profile. I doubt most people AR profiles, but I've seen people do it for all kinds of reasons. I don't have the time, or desire, to police profiles either. Though, I do profile perv, a lot, I can say I've never once reported one However I have to say that just because some, even 99% if that's what you want to think(though I believe the % is a huge miscalculation), people break TOS in their profiles, does not make it ok for everyone else to do it, lol. That's got to be one of the stupidest reasons to do something. "everyone else did it" didn't fly with my parents growing up, doesn't fly with my kids, and flies even less with grown adults who know better..imo anyway.
  5. Sometimes, even the most well intentioned people can send on messages that very well may not be 100% truth. It happens. Always wise to inform others about safety and such. But sometimes those messages cause more trouble than they're worth. The whole game of telephone comes to mind. Person A has trouble with a viewer(or just their system, and they assume it's the viewer) and tells B C and D. By the time Mr. F finds out it's become some mixed up fable about a viewer letting hackers and trojans and all kinds of other nasty business into someone's system. Then someone's brother's cousin's dog's neighbor's left toe lost everything because of it, too. Most likely...not true, but the original message probably had merit, before it get terribly distorted. I've seen all kinds of notecards and other messages that, in a round about way, do the same thing that one was intended to do. Most times they cause unwanted drama, though-because they're not 100% truth.

  7. Pussycat Catnap wrote: I would say it was very goo advice. Its poor form in SL to have RL info in there. Kind of makes people around you uncomfortable about what they're expected to do and say. And it opens you up to stalking issues. I disagree. In my opinion it's poor form to decide for others what is right, and what is wrong, whenever we fancy doing so. Sure some people may overshare, and may put things in there that set them up for potential trouble. But, it's their decision, and it's their SL(though I don't mind advising people that too much rl info, can be a bad thing, that's different than saying "don't share any"). You-general-don't want to do the same, by all means, don't. I don't tell others they can't live a completely second life here, and must absolutely attach to their avatar at all times and bring rl into sl. I don't see why others should be able to suggest I leave any and all rl behind just because it's what they opt to do, lol. I enjoy my sl the way it is. I like that others can do the same. I like that options exist. I say whatever tickles your pickle. I like having my rl pic. If that makes someone uncomfy, I suggest they stop looking at it. I'm sure there are far more worthy things to be annoyed by then a pic of lil ole me

(so maybe sim was the wrong word) as far as the name goes ill look into changing the name. and as for a 3rd part as to what am i offering. the group is to help players who are looking to make lindens. we help them make lindens and in return they help the group reach our goals. Reading this, I think I might know what you're working towards, but I also might be way off base too. First I need to ask though, and I guess it will help me better offer advice, and maybe others too. How do you intend to help others earn lindens? I ask this because if you can't answer it, then I think you might be thinking a little too big for your britches. Not that it's a bad thing, but you might be thinking way too large, despite wanting to start off small. So, what are your goals? What is it you want to help people do? I know, earn lindens, but please clarify that. Are you looking to help people find places to earn lindens? So offering an informational group/place/whatever? Are you looking to find things, products, to help your group members earn lindens? In this case, you'll need land to rez these items. They DO exist, but they certainly won't make anyone rich and they will cost you(the group?) money. Are you looking for companies or merchants to join with you on this endeavor? What is it really that you're aiming to do? Other than "help people make money" because it's a very vague statement. So what are your basic ideals? I'm not asking you to give away some super secret or your entire operation or something. But the folks here are really informative, great at giving advice and helping people find what they need, or don't in some cases. So the more clear you can make things, the more help people can give. If you're simply looking to promote a group, and nothing more, I suggest making sure it's visible in your profile(and tell other members to do the same-if they want). You could put it in your picks, and have others do the same. You could find groups that allow advertising and advertise it there. Look in search for related terms to your group, and you'll likely find advertising groups(some may not be free to join) where you're allowed to distribute your group name, and invite people to join you. You might find a sim that has good traffic and has adboards or some other form of advertising where you can promote your group. It really will be a lot of leg work on your part, but I'm sure you're not afraid of that. I don't think there is a spot on the forums for it, but you could have your group host an event somewhere. Events can be advertised on the forums, as well as under events in-world. That might help a lot. If you don't have land, you could rent a spot. I've seen some cheap ones. Some rent by the hour, some by the day, some by the week, or more. I can think of all sorts of things I personally would do with this kind of idea, but I've no clue if they're really along the wavelength of your ideas.
  9. I ask for either. For me, it's about what's most convenient for the person contacting me. I'm a pretty flexible person, for the most part, or I try to be anyway. But, I had to giggle at the postcard thing. Mostly because I have been having one heck of a time contacting, and staying in contact with a program we use with part of our homeschool curriculum. I told them in no certain terms today if they can't manage a phone call during normal hours, or contact me electronically like normal people, they need to switch to US mail, or we're dropping their program. They've been driving me nuts with both recorded and non-recorded calls at absurd hours, including non-school days. The fact that they know our/my schedule, and I am available at just about every time OTHER than the ones they choose to call, just makes it ten times worse. So.. I'm dealing with that irl too, and it can be just as annoying there, lol.
  10. My rl pic is me and hubby, aside from the fact that my rl tab pretty much lets you know who that is, I don't share any other rl info with folks I don't know. But I would never advise anyone not to. I would warn them about possibilities of sharing too much extremely personal infomation, though. I would tell them to do what they are comfortable with. I would also tell them it's never wise to judge others based on what they do, or do not share. You just never know, without getting to know the person and such judgments are typically quite unfair. I don't judge anyone for what they don't share. I think it's a very personal decision each should make for their own self. I try very hard not to judge folks based on what they put in their profile, but I will agree that sometimes it's very difficult not to. Though I can get over my own opinions pretty easily. One of my best friends in SL has a profile I still to this day can't stop laughing about. First impressions speak volumes sometimes. So for folks who do want to share, I recommend doing so wisely. Make sure it's something you feel comfortable sharing, something you believe paints you in whatever light you'd like to be painted in. And then... don't worry about what anyone else thinks. If you like it, if you're comfortable, that's all that matters. I got a nasty Pm once here after another thread about sharing rl pics, and how it bothers some people that people put rl pics at all in their profile. Something about bragging, ugly pic, "nice relationship, good luck with that lasting" and all sorts of other garbage. I laughed, told them to enjoy their sl and have a good day. Moral of that story.. someone is always available to judge, no matter how silly their judgment, or what it's about. Some people just have to have an opinion about everything and have no qualms sharing it. Be prepared for that, and even more importantly, be prepared to brush it off. Some are a bit more harsh than others about sharing their thoughts.
  11. Nothing you can do, but pay it. If it's gotten tot he point of being deleted, you have been in debt for a while. LL doesn't much care why you can't pay. It's not their business to care. Harsh as that might sound, it's true. Your 100's of dollars are no more valuable than any other person's, so throwing that around really won't help you any, lol. How much you've spent in SL doesn't matter if you can't pay your debts(I'm not sure why it would, it's not like LL bases their decisions on loyalty or amount spent, lol, it's a blanket policy). If you want to keep your account, pay the money, otherwise, you're going to lose it. Sucks, yes, but that's how life is sometimes. Same thing happens in rl when we can't pay our debts too, and it often sucks even worse then.
  12. theif519 wrote: I don't know, perhaps the whole point of Second Life is to live that new, second life, without any connection to your real life, but I've seen more empty profiles than real ones. Is there an unspoken rule against it? What am I supposed to place as my profile picture? I still have a default avatar too, since I just started yesterday... err, two days ago since it's 2:30 in the morning. Also, I've noticed that there's both a First Life picture and a Second Life picture in the the profile. If people use their Second Life avatar in the first life one, what do they put in their second life one? Perhaps it's different for others, since on SL Viewer i didn't notice the 2nd life one, but on Phoenix Firestorm there's the option for it. So, why is it that there's an abundant lack of real pictures? Is it to keep the guise of roleplay, or, which is most likely, wanting to keep their private life private, which I do understand, but on IMVU there were tons of real life ones compared to here, why is SL different? Because SL is not IMVU, would be the short answer, best not to compare the two-or any other environment for that matter. The long answer would be that for some people SL is exactly that, a second life. Some people do completely separate themselves from their avatar-and are of course free to do so. Some people only separate certain things, or certain areas, but still feel somewhat connected to their avatar. Some people, like myself, don't separate the two very much, if at all. For me my av is simply an extension of me. It's still me. But up until about a year ago, I didn't have any rl pics either. Mostly because I just didn't want to, lol. No real reason other than that. Some people don't like sharing their rl info, even in picture form. That's not uncommon at all. You can put whatever you want into either pic section, providing you follow TOS of course. It's up to each indidivual to decide what, if anything, to put, and where. If you're comfortable and desire to, you can share your rl pictures, but there's no reason to feel you have to share any pics at all, sl or rl.
  13. As long as before flagging people are actually checking to see that improper keywords are being used, I say flag all you want. I too find it extremely annoying. But please be cautious and always double check before doing so. It's a royal PITA to be a merchant and get items flagged for keyword spam that aren't actually keyword spam. Even if it's just a few steps to put the listing back up, it's a pain. That happened to me twice during the whole madstyle fiasco LL so brilliantly came up with. An item I sell which has mad in it's name kept coming up in the search for madstyle. I did NOT use that keyword, it didn't fit that style, at all. I wouldn't, I don't use quick fill and I am very careful which keywords I use, and don't use. Yet my item kept coming up, and got flagged and removed twice during that little debacle. Not my fault, at all. But I did get scathing messages from people pissed off about merchants spamming keywords including me, lol. Had they bothered to check, they'd see my keywords were fine, the search was borked. I posted about it back during that issue too. It's happened to one other product too. I can't even tell you how many times I've checked others' listings when looking for something, that seemed not to fit the category, and saw that they too did not actually use that keyword at all. Sometimes it's a case of the word being in the listing somewhere, or the merchant's name, it seems. Sometimes, there's no rhyme or reason to it. Just please before flagging always double check you're doing so for the right reasons LL may say they don't remove on the first flag, but it's really hard to believe them sometimes. I'm not convinced they do actually check the listings to make sure they actually violate any rules each and every time. Sometimes I think they just remove, and refuse to look into it.(and we've seen lots of people complain about that right here on the forums)

It might be because there, at one time, were mulitple free scripts doing exactly what the OP described(and if I can find one, I'll happily post a link to it, I haven't really looked in a while, but I will now). There are a lot of free scripts out there, of all sorts, they werne't made free because someone decided they personally were worthy of it. They're usually made free because someone decides the script, or it's functions anyway, are worthy of being free to anone looking for them. At least, the few free scripts I've written were done so for that purpose
  15. I can think of a couple reasons for it. Not having the actual demo, or item rezzed in-world somewhere. Not everyone can see that it's mesh unless they buy the demo. I've been to quite a few stores that sell mesh and have either their mesh area very well marked or have the word mesh on the actual ad picture. These places don't all have the items rezzed. A lot, most of them have the demos though. But it still helps to guide people, imo. But I'm one of those people that liks signs telling me what is what and where it is. Mesh is newer than sculpty, but you'll still often find some ads with the words sculpt, sculpted, sculpty and stuff on them. Like if a pair of pants for instance comes with sculpt cuffs, a lot of times the ad/vendor pic says so. When sculpts first came about, you saw the same thing. You'd see ad pics and ads specifying the item was sculpt and not regular prims. So seems reasonable mesh would do the same. I've seen some mesh and sculpty that look an awful lot alike in picture form. Heck even some non prim clothes looks the same in some pics I've seen. If the ad, or the ad/vendor pic, doesn't specify which one it is and I can't see it in person, I'm not as likely to buy. I'd prefer knowing beforehand what it's made of. This sorta goes hand in hand with the not having an item rezzed somewhere thing I think.
  16. Deja Letov wrote: I do agree, I don't see why merchants would get upset at customers. It' s not anyone's fault, I see no reason to get upset at anyone. However, at only missing negative communication...think about it, when did you ever try to contact a merchant multiple times over positive things? Only the negative stuff is going to show because that's mainly what people are trying to get in touch with them over. And it could be that they haven't logged in for days, if your messages cap on monday and offline to email fails...it will stay that way until you login again. So if someone is offline for 3 or 4 days, and they can the first day, they also miss everything on day 2,3 and 4. I'm not saying this happened exactly, I'm just playing devils advocate. I tend to sign on at least once a day, usually, so it hasn't been a huge issue to me. I also hired an assistant with an offline/online indicator so I run into this less. But there was a period of time, when I was missing several notecards and IMs from people. I know it's hard to believe, and when youre the person wanting answers it's frustrating as hell but I'd try not to get too upset because you just don't know what's going on and as crazy as it seems it just might be true. I completely understand what you're saying. Actually under normal circumstances I wouldn't be upset at all after not receiving communication back from someone, even if it's important. Especially since I know there is the cap, always a chance offlines don't get sent. Of course the biggest reason of all would be that people have real lives, those always come first. Not everyone will be online all the time, or even every day. I completely understand that. There have been times I've been away a few days, few weeks, even a few months. So when that's the case, that a person hasn't been online, I might wonder where they are/what's up, but I wouldn't worry, or get upset. I might worry about them, but not about whatever issue it is I have. When they are online, especially daily, that's when I start to wonder what's really up. Repeatedly ignoring communication, and we've got a problem. Well I have a problem. I actually wasn't frustrated at all until I finally got the chance to speak with them. But that frustration wasn't with the lack of communication so much as it was the actual communication once it came(the other point of my original rant, lol). They kind of blended together I think, unintentionally as they really are two separate issues. I probably am the only odd ball that would im someome more than once to send praise, not that I have just wouldn't put it past me, haha. I'd probably piss someone off doing it too, lol. But I'm also the odd ball that will happily wait months or however long needed for you to fix something, if you need me to in most cases. As long as I don't feel you're intentionally ignoring me. I do take issue with that-just a personal beef of mine I'll have to get over. We've all got them, eh?
  17. I think the most spontaneous thing I have ever done would be going to spend time with hubby for the very first time. Definitely not my style, not necessarily because I am a planner, but it's just not like me. My kids went to my mother's house, and I went to the train station. Some odd hours later I saw hubby for the first time in person. We'd seen photos, cammed, and everything else under the sun, but we'd never met face to face. We'd met online quite some years before and been the best of friends for what seemed like an eternity (if you really want to read the rest of that story, it's in a thread in the relationships forum, I won't bore y'all with that too ) We in fact both got lost in the train station because it was huge. He had been there before but I hadn't and neither of us had any clue where I was. We were on our cells talking and then I saw him emerge from a hallway, and our eyes met. Yeah totally one of those sappy mushy moments. I won't pretend I didn't cry, either I can't express the rest of the feelings, thoughts, and everything else of that day-and of course the rest of my trip that followed. All I can say is other than the births of my children, that was the best day of my life...so far(as hubby says).
  18. Trinity Yazimoto wrote: notecards are included in the 25 ims/items allowance that SL should normally send to our mailbox if we choosed this option. Over 25, whatever is nc or not, they are not sent anymore to your mailbox neither in your inventory. "When a Resident is offline, up to 25 messages will be stored and delivered at the next login. This limit includes inventory offers, group notices, group invitation and IMs. All messages above this limit will becapped and not delivered." (sl wiki). so since notecards are inventory offers, i guess they are capped aswell, if you reach the 25 messages or whatever else sent to you when you are offline. And well, depending the resident, SL seems to put a different meaning to "25", since some can recieve more and some others less. The cap is terrible it always has been and it's been a thorn in the side of people for a very long time-as long as I can remember anyway. Notecards aren't included in items that would be sent to your email box, because they're actual inventory offers, so they couldn't be sent out of world (not the way LL has things set up) but they are definitely included in the cap limit. It's awful, or can be anyway. I too wish there were a way to have them sent, or their contents sent, in an email. I should say, I wish there were a way that LL would implement. I am sure some of the geniuses here could figure it out. They're pretty smart cookies around here. I know some people who seem to get past that 25cap too, and others who don't seem to ever meet 25 but still cap. For the most part I think I cap right around 25 usually. It's hard to tell sometimes though. I wish LL would raise the limit higher. 25 isn't nearly enough. Even with the IM to email option on, that cap limit-since it's not just messages but really everything, is too low.
  19. Ciaran Laval wrote: Tari Landar wrote: Ok, so I know that the whole "send IMs to email" doesn't always send them all, everything has it's faults and it's not 100% guaranteed to always work, though I think the fail rate is significantly low. But I have to say, what kind of creator, that wants to be taken seriously, lets their IMs cap and does NOT select this option? That's actually an honest question, I would really love to know why some people don't choose to let things go to email. . How do you know they don't receive offline IM's? I'm assuming some creators state this, if they then state how you can contact them, as long as that's reasonable, I don't see the problem. Yes I know because they've openly stated it. I wouldn't assume someone does or doesn't, though. I might ask, but I definitely wouldn't assume, or presume to know, without knowing. You are right that there isn't really a "problem" when they state how to get a hold of them. There is a problem when you do that and they still fail to communicate but that's a different issue. But also there are a lot of merchants who don't specify what/how/when to get a hold of them, and that's just as difficult on the customer as it is the merchant when something goes wrong. But, I guess that's a different issue too, lol.
  20. Amethyst Jetaime wrote: I know you are frustrated and I admit that the merchants you referred to didn't handle this issue properly. However IM's going to email are no guarantee of good service. I have had just as many problems with merchants who are set up that way as those that aren't. In fact I recently had a horrific encounter with a very well known merchant that is set up as you are but took over six weeks to even reply and who never solved the issue. Despite the fact that you label this thread a rant, and you say your aren't snarky but are (example: "... I have to say, what kind of creator, that wants to be taken seriously, lets their IMs cap and does NOT select this option?") , I will tell you why I don't have IM's go to my email. I take extra care to deliver a first rate quality product with well thought out detailed instructions and trouble shooting information. As a result I don't have many calls for support. I have business hours M-F when clients and customers can IM me, or they can send me a notecard anytime which i will respond to generally in 24 hours. I actually prefer notecards. The support questions I generally get are not simple. I get more information on notecards, which allows me to reply on the same card with a complete well thought out answer, which a lot of time needs to be lengthy, and return it. The customer then has a record of my answer for future reference. If the support requires more, I set up a mutually convenient appointment time for us to meet so I can resolve the situation. One of my businesses I recognize requires more support, due to its nature, which would result in my IM's getting capped.. I have a staff of well trained CSR's that will respond in the support group during a wide variety of hours around the clock. The majority of time the problem is user error and they can easily explain how to correct it. If they are unable to resolve a problem then they pass it to me or my partner in this business and we take care of it, again usually within 24 hours. The information that comes with the product and my profile explain to the customer to contact my CSR's through the group for the fastest results. My method works for me and my customers. I have been told by them many times that I provide top notch service. I have never had anyone complain to me about not being able to get the support they need. My method also is more than reasonable. In RL where the amount of money involved is far greater, you can't contact a business owner 24/7. You can't buy something at a store and call them when they are closed and speak to anyone. Ninety five percent of the time you aren't even given the opportunity to leave a message. You get a message to call back during business hours. The beauty of SL is that you can run your business as you please and let the market decide if you have made the right choices. You choose to let your IM's go to email, I don't. That doesn't make me a bad business owner, as you imply in your posts. If it did, I wouldn't be doing business in SL successfully for six years now. You're right, it doesn't make you a bad business owner. It does make some a bad business owner though, well contributes to it anyway. People who proclaim good customer service, but don't/can't offer it because they choose to not partake in options available to them, I do question their sincerity and dedication to their own business. Do I question the dedication of them all? No, but I do question the choice. Hence trying to understand why people don't choose this option. I do want to know what kind of merchant would opt out, and why. Not necessarily because they're all bad. They very well may have a valid reason. Until you posted, I haven't seen a single one. You have a great setup, and it seems to work fantastic for you. But yours isn't as typical a case as I am sure we all wish. How many merchants who don't select the IM to email option do far less than you? I'm not normally a betting person but I can take an educated guess that it's a higher number than it should be. This is why I am trying to understand why some merchants, like yourself, opt out of this. I can see why you opt out of it. Your customers can still reach you. You have both yourself, and in the other business case you have CSRs. So there isn't really ever going to be days on end when a customer cannot get a hold of you and you'll reply with "didn't get your multiple messages and/ior notecards". That's not the case for all merchant though. Which is why I like reading other merchant's opinions and experience with it. I admitted thus far I had a pretty ignorant understanding on it. I can give you an example actually. I was away for a month in Aug/Sept. I couldn't really log into SL unless absolutely necessary-as I'd have to find a computer to actually log on, lol. I also made my absence well known. Now, of course I would cap in that time frame, lol. But because I opt in to the email option, when there was a communication from someone while I was gone I was able to fix it. I wouldn't have seen her message had I not gotten it in my email, because it had capped inworld long before then. Now I know it's also possible that it may not have ever made it to my inbox either, but it did. I wouldn't have been able to fix her problem for almost 3 weeks if it hadn't been for that option, and try as I might to communicate that back, that would not sit well with me. So I found a way to address her issue as quick as I could. So, that's one instance where it helped me, and a customer, just recently.

I think you didnt got my meaning either, maybe prob because my non perfect english. (sorry again). No, actually I can't see that. At least not from any of the answers, except yours. I'm trying to understand how you got what you did from what I said, or how I could have possibly worded it any other way. But it really does seem pretty clear to me, so I don't understand. Since no one else thought it was the same way you did, I am inclined to believe it's simply a misunderstanding because of the language barrier, and nothing more. Your english isn't really that bad, I just think you're misunderstanding some of what I said because of a poor translator, or poor translation. Sorry, I wish things translated the same in all languages, but they don't, lol. Your problem with what I said would make more sense if I had put it the way you seem to think I did. But, again, that's not how I put it, worded it, or meant it. Others may think that way about people who put IMS CAP in profiles, I am not one of those people and nothing I said says otherwise. I said the exact opposite in fact. I said it's something that DOES happen, and I know it happens. It also happens to me. So why would I ever say something like that?

Trinity Yazimoto wrote: yes lol, sorry this is a topic that get me really upset because when someone says that ims capped (or every else items not delivery) is pure lie or because of ignorance about sending our ims in emails this mean that all pp that have the ims capped sentence on their profile are lier or ignorant. And of course, i dont agree with that...Its nice from pp to come here and try to give us lessons telling us "hey ! do you know you can send ims to your emails ?" but thanks, we know already this. and again, we cant be responsable of SL failure. I know some pp doesnt have ims and items capped and even when its over the sl limit. i guess so this pp has more recieving allowance than me. The capped issue is far from being the only one failure in SL. But we are not responsable for this. and all we can do is just complain about it. Btw, of course, this is not an excuse for bad customers support. But despite the capped issue, a merchant can still have a great custom support, at the only condition indeed, he/she's aware of the customer request. Merchants with bad customers support skills are existing indeed, just like in rl. But the prob is really more wide than the capped items issue. Anyway, you wont change them, but you still can avoid them and put them in your "never purchase from" list. Its what i do. Merchants are rl persons, if they behave bad in rl, i guess they do it also in sl. I dont know any fix for this except stoping purchasing from them. :smileywink: OK again, you didn't actually read anything I said. I did not in any way shape or form say that anyone saying their ims capped is lying. Not once did I say that. I don't know where you keep getting that from. No one was coming here to "give you lessons" on anything. Why do you seem to think that's what I was doing? Although, not everyone in sl knows about this option. So your assumption that everyone already knows, is wrong. Some people actually don't know about it. But that's neither here nor there, I wasn't posting to inform people of that. I DID say that I don't believe some people when they say they got absolutely none of the communications sent-when it happens over several days, while they are online, after getting an "accepted" message when they accept the notecard I send. Yes, I don't believe those people, lol. Also, it's possible for someone to build their own selves a reputation for always claiming "I didn't get the IM/NC", etc.. if it happens often enough, it's entirely possible someone may not believe them too. Not because it's impossible, but there does come a time when something is less likely, less probable, over time, sometimes. Again, I AM a merchant, you seem to be replying as if I am not and have absolutely no experience or clue what it's like. I shouldn't have to statew it repeatedly but somehow I feel the need to, to explain. I am NOT coming from a customer point of view only, I am coming from both a merchant and a customer point of view. My opinion doesn't change based on which title I'm wearing-customer or merchant. It remains the same, regardless. You really should read what I wrote, you still seem to think I said the exact opposite of everything I said, lol, and I don't know why. Oh well I don't think I can make it any clearer or explain it any better, lol. I'm still interested in reading others' opinions on the actual topics though. Never know when you can learn something.

Do you think we are stupid and ignorant enough to not do it .? Of course, we know and of course we do. We even answer from our mailbox if we cant log right away to answer sm1 when we get this IMs in our mailbox. BUT WE CANT ANSWER TO SOMETHING WE DONT RECIEVE. OMG I can't explain why but that made me giggle.
  24. Trinity Yazimoto wrote: hey ! Are you kidding ? Kidding about what? Did you really read what was written? SL cap every ims or group notices after 25 sent. this mean that if you have a total of 25 ims AND group notices sent to you after you logged off, you wont recieve anything in your email box.http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Instant_Message. (When a Resident is offline, up to 25 messages will be stored and delivered at the next login. This limit includes inventory offers, group notices, group invitation and IMs. All messages above this limit will becapped and not delivered.) .This mean also, that after 25 nc sent when offline, we cant get anymore. This is the official SL version. Because, in my case, some days, my ims and group notices get capped right away after i get offline. And i ALWAYS have the same message when i log about ims too much numerous and got capped. So yeah i dont get even the 25 promised ones... even for this SL is not able to work good. (But weirdly and also gladly, this doesnt include all the notifications i get from differents objects in my store, like my subscribe o matic, gifts, lucky board, counter, clever info sign vendors etc....since i get all notifications from them in my mailbox. What allow me to guess what is happening in my inwolrd store even if im not online.) What did that rant have to do with anything? I didn't say that messages don't cap. I said, in fact multiple times, that they DO. The limit is extremely low, and has been for as long as I've been here. I hate it too. That's why I'm glad we have an option. One, apparently, some people don't use. Do you honnestly think that we, merchants, do not settle our ims to drop in our mailbox ? Do you think we are stupid and ignorant enough to not do it .? Of course, we know and of course we do. We even answer from our mailbox if we cant log right away to answer sm1 when we get this IMs in our mailbox. BUT WE CANT ANSWER TO SOMETHING WE DONT RECIEVE. Stop yelling like a loon, no need for that lol. You're replying to another merchant btw. If you had read you would see that, indeed some merchants do not have ims sent to their email. Hence my confusion as to WHY they make this choice. I've spoken to three in the last two weeks who don't use that option. There are also others who have posted and said as much, they've seen them too. So clearly there are merchants who do not take advantage of that option. I never said it was stupid or ignorant not to, but it is a choice I don't understand. Don't put words into my posts that weren't there to begin with, Actually even some of the nc that are sent to me or whatever other items are ate by SL.I (before reaching to the 25) This is why, i ask in my profile to pp, to drop a nc in the clever info shop sign i have in my store, that is like an inworld mailbox and where im sure i will get the nc. After this, if pp still want to send me ims or send nc, its up to them, but i wont be responsible for something im not guilty and i dont have any way to fix. (Also note that i even disabled notice from almost all groups i have on my list in order to not fill my 25 emails allowance... and even with this... i dont reach, i never reach the 25 ims and group notices or whatever sent items, but my ims are still capped after lets say 5 or 6 emails) n my case, im connected to my mailbox, wherever i am, almost everyday. I do it from my rl work pc, from my phone, or whatever. i have also a sl client on my phone for logging in sl from it and answer pp if needed. I was like you at first, i always thought that merchants that was writing in their profile that their IMs are capped were somewhat pretentious.... Now im wearing same shoes as them, i see it in a different way. How is this like me? Really, where did I say anything like this? I don't think that whatsoever. Not even close. Again, to reiterate, I said that IMs do cap, easily. It happens to me all the time too. I never once said they were anything of the sort. I am a merchant. Now. if you know the fix for empeach SL to cap and eat almost everything that is sent to me when im offline, please tell me... i'll be more than happy to know and i can promise i will right away use your fix ! :smileyhappy: ps to Darius : ive indeed saw in your mp you have an item that is made to be able to read nc from mailbox, but i guess nc need to be dropped in an inworld mailbox and not directly to my profile. Ill contact you later to have some more info about it. Be carefull lol, if you are offline and my im is capped i wont have any indulgence hehehhehehehe.... just teasing :smileywink: I don't know what you're ranting and raving about up there as most had nothing at all to do with what I was asking about, but go back and actually read my post please. Some of your points make absolutely no sense. I've answered them above in bold. I'm going to guess there's some language barrier because you seem to have read everything I said as the exact opposite, lol. I AM a merchant, and have been for over 4 years here now. Your assumption that I am somehow putting down merchants for their desire for IM or NC, stating that IMs cap, or anything you've mentioned, is really way way off base, lol. I didn't say ANY of that. I am frustrated with the ones who have poor customer service, but the thread was really two fold. One fold is my frustration with people who just generally communicate badly. The second fold would be my desire to understand why some people do not use the IM to email option.
  25. Yes it was totally a two part rant, lol. One part dealing with people who simply have poor communication skills in general, both customer service related and generally speaking.I did say I was admittedly frustrated, in fact I still am, but less so. It's not really an angry frustration either, if that helps put perspective on it. I've been accused of being "too nice" as a merchant whilst someone watches a customer lash out at me, both in rl and sl. Maybe I just have a weirdly thick skin, but I do, in probably 99.5% of cases feel that "the customer is always right..even if they aren't yet a customer..and even moreso if they're not right". That is, very clearly, just my own issue. But it's not one I plan on fixing anytime soon. I don't consider it a character flaw of mine. In fact, I'm pretty proud of it to be honest. My rl businesses before I sold them off would have never made it where they still are today if I'd taken a "brush 'em all off" attitude. So, I just can't do it, even in sl, even though my store is bitty and really just more of a hobby than anything right now because I haven't gotten back into creating after being gone for a few months. But I do have to accept that not everyone does things my way lol. I was also trying to understand why some people don't opt in for the one option we do have. Despite it's faults, and the fact that nothing is 100%, so there can and likely will be some failure rate, it's still an option available to everyone. Especially if you cap every single day. I just honestly don't understand it, and even after reading replies, I still don't. It's extremely easy to change your email related to sl, so, that doesn't make sense to me either(I've had to do it myself when I opened my store). You can have an sl only email, so your offlines and other sl related stuff, go there. I DO understand spam, and how much people loathe it(don't we all? lol) So that's why I'd say to use a different email address for sl than you'd use for all your other stuff, if you're worried about spam. It's not like email addresses cost money these days Hmm, anyway, I appreciate all the feedback. I do love reading how others deal with things, or how they think. I like hearing other opinions. I'm probably in my own boat on that one too, lol. But I do appreciate it and try my hardest to see things from all sides and not get frustrated with people over silly things. Sometimes I do anyway though, lol. That's why I'm trying to understand why not using that option makes sense to some. I was hoping there'd be people here who don't use it and could shed some light. I could use an education on the matter because where I stand now(admittedly ignorant as to the reasoning) it's got me scratching my head.
