  1. Yep, I've abandoned property several times in my earlier days That, I'm an expert at LOL Thanks!
  2. That would be much easier. I work in a creative environment and several know I'm in SL but still better to do it at home 😉
  3. I have a dumb question since I haven't had a Linden house in like what, 12 years? Once I get my home (fingers crossed!) will I have to actually log in right away or can I log in later on? I'm at work and I'm able to get to the web page easily to claim the house but not sure if I'll be able to actually log onto SL until I arrive home later in the day. I did download Firestorm on my work computer yesterday just in case I have to but obviously would prefer not to have to do this. I'm management but it still probably wouldn't look good LOL
  4. Also a lot of appliers come with their own shapes which are far superior to those supplied with the heads or bodies. If you find an applier you really like, chances are it also comes with the shape. If you look through Flickr at all the top creator names of appliers you can narrow down the shapes you like there and get the demos in world. If a shape comes with it, the demo box will have it but, beware that this one will be highly distorted; don't judge by it. The one you get when you purchase it will be exactly what you saw in the photo. Then, you can tweak it just a bit to make it more of your own look but it will be a much better starter - or of course you can leave it as is. Sometimes I use my own shape that I created, sometimes the ones supplied with the body that I tweaked, sometimes the one with the head or a third party. Depends on what look I'm trying to achieve but nearly always I wind up changing it at least a little to suit my own personal aesthetics.
  5. Yep, this is always possible. Probably will try it out and see how I feel about it. Thanks for this reminder Marianne!
  6. Yea, the being able to rezz the boat appeals to me. While where my main ava lives now is surrounded by water, it isn't Linden water so I can't just up and sail away. And, I can take care of my landscaping addiction there too. The change of living conditions is appealing, just not the proximity to my neighbors. But maybe this isn't so bad since it's pretty rare from what I remember living on mainland, that neighbors are in world at exactly the same time as you on any given hour.
  7. Thought I'd open a new topic for this. One of my alts is anticipating the pending release of the next round of houseboats. Not sure how I feel about them being so close together though, as I'm used to having large plots of land with my neighbors far from me. I kind of like the challenge, of decorating the boat and of course the awesome sweeping views, but keep coming back to my concern of how close they are to each other and thinking I may be happier grabbing an abandoned regular home when the rush starts for the houseboats. Would love to hear your experiences so far living in these communities. Have you found it challenging in any way or has it been a non-issue?
  8. Overall, I'm curious what peoples experiences have been living in the houseboats. My alt is waiting on the next round and I'm not quite sure if that's the way I'd like to go - or if I'd prefer grabbing one of the abandoned regular homes when the houseboats finally get released. I've walked around and the entire finished areas are so beautiful regardless of what kind of home you choose, makes it difficult to pick which one!
  9. The horse was a very happy accident - which is something to look for when creating any kind of art. I wrote about this on my Flickr page w/this photo. Was frustrated with working on another entirely different image and panned my camera around just to break my annoyance and do something else. I had the Windlight set on something other than it's usual view and one of my Teegle horses kept prancing out just out of frame. Grabbed a few shots not doing much in the way of composition - just intuitive shooting more like I'd do in RL if I was "in the moment"
  10. Ken Rockwell is fantastic. I've been following him for years. He's been extremely helpful to me in making making several photographic decisions. Reviews of equipment are spot on
  11. This was taken on my own land, which is a private estate. it's part of a larger group of islands that is ultimately owned and controlled by someone else who prefers the entire area not be overrun with strangers; he likes it quiet and private which I also appreciate so no landmark provided. It's always a work in progress - I am constantly changing it according to mood/season/whatever. Or, maybe I'll do an open house at some point instead for a few days and give the owner fair warning 😋 Anyone interested in visiting, however, feel free to ping me in world. If I'm around and not too involved in other things, you are welcome to come over for a while to wander around.
  12. Ok going to bring this back to landscapes so we don't get too off track I was map hopping one day and landed on this really great southwestern inspired role play sim, AZ Sonora West. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/AZ Sonora West/119/156/28
  13. Years ago, living in south Florida, there was a pasture I used to have to walk by to get home from work (see, not completely city slicker). Filled with cows. One night, a storm was brewing and I saw a small tornado forming in the distance of the pasture. All I kept thinking was "I am going to have to lay myself down in a ditch in that field with those cows if that thing comes my way". And I remembered friends telling me about going in there to pick magic mushrooms and being bum rushed by said cows and falling on their butts into the mud and crap. And I had a fear. So what I'm trying to say is. I love New York 🤣
  14. To be fair I did not get close enough to see if they had udders or balls.
  15. I may be originally from a city but, I do know cows! Yes, in dairy breeds, the females occasionally have horns. Most cows have horns. However, it depends on the breed. Some have been selectively bred not to growhorns, this is known as "polled", and most Black Angus and Jersey cows are polled, as well as some other individuals in some other breeds.
  16. I like you. We can be friends. FYI - on a serious note. I run the Explore Second Life group on Flickr. It was Strawberry Singh's group, however, she handed it over to me since she didn't have time to run it anymore for various reasons (this even before she became a Linden). I'm the only person administering it regularly - extremely taxing to say the least. The other admins are mostly MIA. I could use help so if anyone that posts in this thread would like to help out, even if only now and then, it would be really helpful to me. I am a stickler for rules though and the one about no avatars in the photo is the top of the heap. Please contact me on Flickr or here if interested! Ok now back to your regularly scheduled serene landscape viewing 😊
  17. I love shooting landscapes in SL! Sometimes I set up little scenes on my own land, others are from my travels around the grid. Ideally, for me, landscape pix should not have any distracting peole in them or if they do, they should be very unobtrusive and more "background", not a focal point of the image. I'm a stickler on that. This one is from a sim, Missing Melody. I like cows ❤️ http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Aftershock/165/82/22
  18. This IS incredibly different than how you photograph yourself. It's a more gentle, softer side of you. More soulful. Like he saw into who you are not your facade. Really lovely portrait.
  19. Thanks Nalates. The final image as shown was shot at the highest resolution and settings that my laptop can handle which is really high for a laptop. Typically I do keep the graphics lower as I'm setting up, then switch over to higher ones to tweak lighting. I probably over analyze the images a tad too much sometimes. It seems to be an endemic problem with some of us on these forums 😋
  20. A lot of hair is made for Lelutka and Catwa although the creators do not explicitly say so - or very few anyway. There are only a handful that mention it. So yes, as Scylla said you need to tweak the head shape a bit to get the hair to fit correctly. Most times you can manage to do it without really changing your head appearance too much. Or, if lucky, the hair you have comes in a few sizes in the package or has a HUD to size it up/down. For the most part, most hair will fit Genus heads. I've only ran into a few that really don't fit well and I just avoid them. One I remember is Pritty, just can NOT get it to look right at all so I've stopped even trying. Not like there isn't plenty of other options to be had.
  21. Curves works really well for my RL photos - especially the RGB one. Tones things done quite a bit
  22. I like this a LOT. Genus Strong Face may be to your liking. Even better if you tweak it just a bit. The nose on it is fantastic - very different from most heads. I think it is what sets it apart from all other heads as it has a more unique look and I've found certain skins really accentuate this; Session and Skinnery in particular. Also, Genus has their own basic skin for sale called "March" which is an older looking aged skin and you can turn on "wrinkles" in the HUD to add to it. It's beautiful. Here's the Genus Strong head with the March skin:
  23. Thanks! The lighting in world is my first line of defense. That usually works for the most part but once I start to post edit I always wind up noticing small problems I'd like to fix. I really should be using the PC for it but truly I'm just too lazy to go upstairs to our home office, preferring to be where the tv, kitchen (and cat usually) are lol. So, laptop it is. On this one, I used some tools *barely* because it wasn't too terrible looking. I also had to do a fix on the left ear because some of the fine head hairs were embedded into the ear. I saw that while taking the photo but no matter how I adjusted the ears I couldn't get the hair out of them. Even if I took those ears off and used those that came with the head. I could have easily have swapped out the hair style but I liked it too much and it had the right feel for this picture. Anyway, I used the clone tool for that and I'm more happy than not with the results.
