I can understand that except for the part where you both told them you wee alts right away so they didn't waste their time. Seems to me that's more like spying than RPing. Perseph eventually revealed she was not new. But I never did...I just ran away as quickly as possible so as not to take up too much time that should go to new residents (this was after someone there, not a mentor, kept talking to me and tried to friend me).

So what is the point of using an alt and then revealing that you are the alt? Why not just us taligurl? I can't speak for Bill, but I remember you didn't understand why myself and Perseph would need to have a new alt to visit the Welcome center. Some people just like to play a bit with identities and names -- it's just for fun, and usually not nefarious. At the welcome center we wanted to replicate, as much as possible, being an actual new resident....it was a fantasy...and fantasies can give insights...which is part of the fun. *I believe she revealed her original avatar because pressure is being levied against her...accusations of deception. Also, she mentioned she became aware that not everyone knew who she was.

The other side of that coin are those seeming to promote the idea that there are unscrupulous Alts lurking in every controversial thread. Though it isn't something I watch for, I feel it is overblown and dramatized in its frequency and importance but can lead to that same sort of mistrust and suspicion regardless whether it is valid or not. lol too true

I'm the same...I remember patterns...even from interactions with people years ago. But their names? Often not. I even forget the names of people in my day-today-life.

No, it's cumulative/repeated warnings that can result in a ban (from the forum)....as well as anything especially toxic.

I think they may have changed that -- you can be banned from the forum for a period of time but not be banned from inworld. People have questioned when/if this changed.

haha, seriously, I had to put a piece of tape over the on/off-switch on my new alienware PC...the button is a little alien head. Skeeered. LOL

This guy knows what he's talking about. He seems highly intelligent and well versed on many subjects. I suspect he's extremely handsome, too. I disagree on so many things with this guy, but he is makes the most fun jokes sometimes. I like him.

I've seen the most egregious posts remain without censure. I've seen warnings/bannings for very mild posts. The moderators can't read everything (I'd like them to maintain their sanity! haha). So what often gets censured are the posts where a person(s) doesn't like another person, and they report the post. If you have a report-happy enemy here, or a group of people that don't particularly like you, you are in trouble.

Well, I think some post here in a more objective manner, a bit more detached from their feelings (not necessarily in a bad way). And so they discuss in a more abstract way. For others the forum is more like a family where trust is important, where posters are more involved with their feelings, and issues of liking or not liking others are more in the forefront. Likely if someone posted the most amazing and wonderful thought in the world it would not be liked if the person reading it considered you an enemy. Conversely, I've seen some of the most ridiculous comments in the world be liked by others if they consider that person a forum friend. I think most navigate between these two scenarios, depending upon the day and mood, although I see some staying stuck in one or the other mindsets described above.

well you know all people have a rhythm to their speech...we don't usually pay conscious attention to it...but every person has a 'sound'...even with writing. They pause in certain places...emphasize parts of sentences...slow down here...speed up there..

Trouble maker! BTW we have chatted in world, mostly about your business. You graced our club once when I was there. Funny, I remember tuning into you a bit when I first noticed you on the forum...and having that feeling....that I'd met you.

oh man, there is this great dance thing at whole brain health then world music...from a great DJ...and synced dancing... haha I wish i could be in 2 places at once....tried that with an alt once and forgot the alt was on and she sat after class was over for 4 hours..

Yeah I've had that happen but I consider it a gift...I like to know who the petty people are so I can ignore them. I mean heaven forbid I would actually become friends with them inworld! And, if they boycott I really wouldn't want my pretty lil things on their land anyway, so when they threaten to never buy my stuff again (as has happened) I tell them that I do understand though, just wanting to eliminate the hassle.

Can't you go to the welcome hub as a regular resident? If I were a mentor I'd be wondering why someone has to create a brand new alt to check out the Hub. well for me it was just a bit of roleplay and fun, pretending I was a new resident entering the world. ahhhh...the good old days.
