Women's expectations: Unrealistic
Akane Nacht replied to Paul Hexem's topic in General Discussion Forum
So... if I'm not physically present it's roleplaying? like if i am in a zoom meeting then I am roleplaying work? neat! Akane is my avatar and chat handle and I go to virtual music clubs. Akane the Witch of the Woods doesn't go to clubs. She goes to taverns, gets roaring drunk with the woodsman and makes fun of elves. -

I always answer. I'm not shy. I promise never to think you a pervert should you IM me. 😊 -
Women's expectations: Unrealistic
Akane Nacht replied to Paul Hexem's topic in General Discussion Forum
Well sure. Actually I posed my question thinking of what sort of interaction are they aiming for - dating and romance, making a friend, just passing time, something else? And what might be standing in the way of such wants. If the assumption is it's all about dating, then as others have pointed out, SL has some flaws when used as a dating platform. I made most of my friends while roleplaying, so we had a common interest. I find it hard to make connections in random settings like music clubs, as I have no idea what the other person wants. Perhaps it would be easier if we just had colour coded labels for our intentions 🙃 -

If that were true it would apply equally to women posting here, so you wouldn't be able to trust a thing we say 😉 -
Women's expectations: Unrealistic

The only kind of creepy behaviour I dislike is when they (thus far always male avies) invade my home. Obviously they are up to no good. As for IMs... creepy, crazy, ranty - I don't mind. I used to hang out at the Gor Hub so nothing fazes me. Much better than being boring! Maybe cos nice people tend to be shy and obnoxious ones aren't? I'll ask my question again with more detail: what do (nice polite) men want in SL? for example, in a music club or casual hangout place. -

Because we ourselves do not know! 😭 But seriously, enough about women, what do men want in SL? All these years I assumed they are happy just to tinker with things, chat about food and look at bewbies. -

What would an SL achievement system look like?
Akane Nacht replied to Arwyn Quandry's topic in General Discussion Forum
The achievement I'm still addicted to after all these years is collecting free gifts. I'll go anywhere and do anything for a nice freebie -
I sometimes set myself quests, like ride along as much of the mainland highway as I can and stop at anything interesting, or search everything owned by Linden Dept of Public works and visit it (found some odd little places) or open the map, pick some random corner of mainland and teleport to it. I especially like finding really old things. In short, SL archeology.

Why doesn't SL water have waves and swells?
Akane Nacht replied to RangiUtu's topic in General Discussion Forum
What platform is that? I've seen somewhat responsive water in games (like you can run through it and make ripples) but not any that had any physical resistance to suspend and rock a boat for example. I read that as silty - which is something that would make it look more realistic flowing into a lake/sea. I wonder if anyone has made animated river muck? 🤔 -

I dunno if it's (analogous to) a basic need or not, but I do agree a home is the one thing I'd want as a bare bones paid membership - even before weekly spending money. I've been homeless in SL many times, but it's not for lack of wanting a home, I just couldn't justify the cost. And I almost always found a temporary or shared home in the interim. New players may have their hands full with other things initially, but I recall that as soon as I got the hang of things, I wanted a home.

No qualified therapist worthy of the title would ply his trade in SL. There's no knowing who's on the other side of the screen.

Yup. And been shoulder to cry on for others who experienced it. As you said, it takes time to feel better. Do something nice for yourself, whatever that is for you.

same. I thought, where was this 10 years ago? Then realised it was limited quantity and didn't consider it further. I do wish there was some little loyalty reward for old timers.. we've sure spent enough over the years. Wishful thinking..

The only places I paid close attention to local chat was roleplay sims, obviously so I could follow the story. Lately though, it seems like many people are just standing silently in costume, sometimes not even on the sim proper but in the landing area, presumably in IM or on Discord. There's definitely been a change in the last decade.

Not quite the same but I have a powerful nostalgic reaction to snowy scenes in SL. In RL I live in a place with no snow, but I grew up in a place with long winters. Experiencing it in SL is somehow more vivid than just looking at photos or videos. I don't actually enjoy the cold so it's a plus I can only see it and not feel it!
