Blocking 2.0.1 Logins Today Posted by Esbee Linden on Aug 30, 2010 11:07:04 PM One of the notable changes in 2.1.1 is that we’ve defaulted HTTP Textures to ON for all users. HTTP Textures is a feature that allows us to transmit textures from SL over HTTP instead of UDP. This should make textures load much faster. In the event you have any issues with HTTP Textures, you can turn it back off by enabling the Develop menu in your Viewer (CTRL-ALT-Q), then clicking Develop > ‘HTTP Textures’ to deselect it. Try turning off HTTP Textures and / or try adjusting your bandwidth setting Preferences > Setup and see if that helps. ..streaming music stops first most of the times Reducing lag You might need to turn your bandwidth settings down in the Preferences window if your computer is receiving more network data than it can handle.

Make sure your computer meets all of the Minimum System Requirements. It's best to exceed them in order to prevent bottlenecks, since the minimum system requirements are the minimum hardware required to run Second Life at all. If you're using wireless networking, you should try troubleshooting with a direct wired connection; we allow, but do not support the use of wirless network connections.

  9. How can I let Linden Lab know about a trademark use that I observed that doesn't comply with the guidelines in the Second Life Brand Center? Because Linden Lab's trademarks are valuable for you and for us as symbols of our products and services, you may want to let us know if you spot uses of our trademarks that you believe are unauthorized. When we grant special permission to use our trademarks, we generally require inclusion of a notice that the use is with our permission. If this notice doesn't accompany a use that's inconsistent with our guidelines in the Second Life Brand Center, the use may be unauthorized. To let us know about it, please send email to tm-report@lindenlab.com. Please provide: Which Linden Lab trademark(s) you observed; and A brief description of the use, including: the location of the use (with a URL, an in-world region name and coordinates, or if possible, an image or screen capture); Any information you have about the person making the use; and Any other information that you believe to be relevant.

  19. Hello Kain, from Voice FAQ: Getting Technical Is this Peer-to-peer VOIP? Peer-to-Peer (P2P) for one-on-one conversations Client/Server for in-world and group conversations As you say, this is probably a router issue; please contact your ISP for their help and advice. From Vivox Troubleshoot FAQ My voice chats keep getting dropped, what can I do? Dropped calls can often be due to home router firmware bugs. Upgrading the firmware of the router and/or rebooting the router sometimes fixes the problem. VoIP protocols don't function correctly in networks that include some types of NAT transversal or firewall components. The result is that calls can have one-way audtio or fail. One-way audio usually results from a double NAT issue or an unfriendly NAT transversal being used on the network. VoIP itself presents a problem for NAT because the normal protocols it uses deal with the signaling and establishing of the connection. Check that you have the latest firmware for your router. Try unplugging the router for one minute and then plug it back in. Before you log in, Clear the Cache from Outside Second Life You can check the Disk Cache location from the login screen Preferences > Setup or Network. Log into Region Voice Echo Canyon, see Changing your login location, let your Inventory fully load and test your voice.
  20. Thank you very much, Stella Hope you can, very quickly, get your connection sorted with your ISP.
  21. Hello Stella, this sounds like a connection issue. Try unplugging your modems and routers for a full minute, then plug them back in and log into Second Life. Before you log in, Clear the Cache from Outside Second Life You can check the Disk Cache location from the login screen Preferences > Setup or Network. Log into Region Pooley or Aqua, see Changing your login location and let your Inventory fully load. Reducing lag While you're logged into Second Life, you're connecting to several different parts of the Second Life servers (for the region you're in, your inventory, your cash balance, etc.) It's possible to get disconnected from some parts of Second Life and not others. When this happens, you need to close and restart Second Life to get reconnected. If this happens consistently after a certain period of time (like a few minutes), it's likely there's other software on your computer (firewall or internet security software) that's disconnecting Second Life. If you're using wireless, you may want to try a wired connection. Try opening the Statistics bar and seeing what your Ping Sim and Packet Loss values are. The ping values are the time (in milliseconds) it takes to reach the server from your computer. If this number is high, it could indicate a problem with your network or internet connection. If Packet Loss is a nonzero number, your network or ISP may be having issues. Check your network connection How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? What is packet loss? Packets of data travel across computer networks, including the Internet, home or any corporate network. If one or more of these packets fails to reach its destination, packet loss occurs. These lost or dropped packets can result in performance issues. If your network transport protocol provides for packet recovery, a transmitted packet that is lost will be re-sent. However, it will be re-sent along with every other packet of data that had been sent after it. This causes the overall throughput of the connection to drop. Connection difficulties can lie in any of the following sources:Your home network Use of a wireless network Your ISP A third-party Internet connection between your ISP and our host. Occasionally with our provider's network. Contact your ISP to see if there are any restrictions or throttling of your connection. Use a 3rd party programme to monitor the network latency and to check whether there's any packet loss.
  22. Hello Leaon, when you created the new Role, what Role Name and Title did you give it ? (see Creating New Roles and Create your own group and group tags) What options do the new Role Members get when they click on My Active Title ? You could try deleting the Role and recreating it.
  23. Hello Tarnok, try the suggestions in this SL Wiki KB article Fixing avatar appearance - Check your graphics card to make sure it's supported and the drivers are up-to-date. Learn more. - Move the Second Life Viewer onto your primary monitor, or change your primary monitor in your computer's display control panel. Sometimes having the Viewer on your secondary monitor can mess up graphics. Go to Character Test again, Test Male, so you have the Default Avatar. Close the Viewer and shut down your computer. Unplug your modems and routers for a full minute, then plug them back in. Before you log in, Clear the Cache from Outside Second Life You can check the Disk Cache location from the login screen Preferences > Setup. Log into Region Pooley, see Changing your login location and let your Inventory fully load. When your Inventory has loaded, wearing some clothing, without prim attachments. Force a couple of rebakes, wait a few minutes, then log off. Relog at Pooley, does your Avatar look right now ? If you still have problems, post the details the computer you are using, see How do I find my system information? Also see, Reducing lag and How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? Hope this helps
