  1. Hello TxDave, please check for connection difficulties Your home network Use of a wireless network Your ISP A third-party Internet connection between your ISP and our host. Occasionally with our provider's network Run TraceRoutes on Region Smith sim7713.agni.lindenlab.com Run 3rd party tests at http://www.pingtest.net/ to San Francisco USA to grade your connection. I use a 3rd party programme called Ping Plotter to constantly monitor my connection. ..other times I get in and get logged off within a few minutes Use Statistics Bar to see a detailed list of information about the performance of your computer and the Second Life world. Bandwidth: How much data is being transferred between your computer and the Second Life world. This number varies wildly depending on what bandwidth settings you've used, where you are inworld, what's going on, and whether you're still loading some things (objects/textures/etc) that are in your field of view. If bandwidth is 0kbps, something may be wrong (you may be partially disconnected). Packet Loss: The amount of data being lost as it travels between your computer and the server. Any nonzero packet loss is bad; packetloss above 10% is very bad. Packet loss might be caused by a dying server (in which case everyone in the region would be experiencing it), a bad connection between you and Second Life (possibly a bad router between your ISP and Second Life, or congestion at your ISP), or problems on your local network (wireless networking, or internet security or firewall software on your computer). Ping Sim: How long it takes data to go from your computer to the region you're currently in. This is largely dependent on your connection to the Internet. Does this happen in specific Region ? Does it happen on a specific day of the week or at a specific time of day ? Have you checked for the latest firmware for your router ? What is the Upload speed on your connection ? What are the Bandwidth settings in Preferences > Setup for all the Viewers using the connection at the same time ?
  2. Hello Irene, when you click a SLurl, it tries to open the last Viewer installed From SL Wiki Using Second Life URLs On Windows, a SLurl opens the most recently installed Viewer. There isn't an immediate way to change which Viewer launches SLurls, so if you have the current released Viewer and a Release Candidate, whichever was installed most recently will start. You can change this by reinstalling the Viewer. Re Firefox, see this article Firefox: Options window - Applications panel The Applications panel lets you choose how Firefox handles different types of files, such as PDF documents or MP3 audio clips. To change how Firefox handles a file type in the list, click on its name to select it. The drop-down menu that appears will allow you to choose actions for that type of file: Choose an application: To choose a local or web application to handle a type, select the application from the drop-down menu. If you want a local application that is not in the menu to handle the type, select Use other... from the drop-down menu and point Firefox to its location. As Peewee suggests, use Always Ask and then choose the Viewer you want to open the SLurl. The location of Viewer 1.23 will be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\SecondLife. One of the easiest ways to check which Viewer you are selecting is to look at the icons, Viewer 2 has a black background. If you will have more than one Viewer open at once, please check that Viewer 1.23 has --multiple as a login parameter and Viewer 2 has Allow Multiple Viewers in Preferences > Advanced. Hope this helps, Irene
  3. Hello Ambyer, as Peewee suggested Completely uninstall ALL Viewers, saving any chat logs, if you wish. How do I fully uninstall and reinstall Second Life? Make sure the all Caches, User Settings and content of any Temporary folders are also deleted. Check you have the latest full version of Flash Player (including the player for Firefox/Safari), see Version Test for Adobe Flash Player, and Quicktime and Java. Shutdown your computer. Fully unplug your cable modem, router, and other gear you use to access the Internet for several minutes so that residual memory is cleared. This may purge "stale" settings. Download the latest Official Viewer from here http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php, save the programme to your Desktop and install, using the default settings. Log into Region Smith, see Changing your login location and let your Inventory fully load.

  12. Hello Mikayla, as you have already worked out, this is problem with the Servers checking your Maturity preference. Clear History Preferences > Privacy. Close the Viewer. Clear the Cache from Outside Second Life You can check the Disk Cache location from the login screen Preferences > Setup. Restore to default settings without reinstalling, by moving all of the existing settings files, to a different, temporary directory. The settings files can be found in the following location. Shutdown the computer. Fully unplug your cable modem, router, and other gear you use to access the Internet for several minutes so that residual memory is cleared. This may purge "stale" settings. Try logging into Region Smith, see Changing your login location and reselect your Maturity preference and let your Inventory fully load. Relog to Smith and see if Search will work correctly.

  15. UPDATE from Release Notes/Second Life Release/2.4.0 Known Issues Mac OSX 10.4 Unable to Run Viewers 2.3.0 and 2.4.0 STORM-790 Viewer 2.3 and 2.4 don't run on Mac OSX 10.4 (Tiger) - Intel Macs running OSX 10.4 will be unable to run Second Life Viewers 2.3.0 and 2.4.0. This issue is a side-effect of the fix for the anti-aliasing bug SH-392.
  16. Hello Ivor, plaese try the suggestions in Reducing lag - Second Life Wiki The video is jerky or stuttering, pauses for long periods of time, and everything stops moving, including my avatar. My avatar takes forever to start walking, won't stop walking for several seconds, and chat does not appear for a long time. Close the Viewer. Clear the Cache from Outside Second Life You can check the Disk Cache location, for each Viewer, from the login screen Preferences > Network or Setup. Shutdown your computer. Fully unplug your cable modem, router, and other gear you use to access the Internet for several minutes so that residual memory is cleared. This may purge "stale" settings. Log into Region Smith, see Changing your login location and let your Inventory fully load. When your Inventory has fully loaded. Close the Viewer and relog. Nope my speed is good still faltering when moving. What is packet loss? Packets of data travel across computer networks, including the Internet, home or any corporate network. If one or more of these packets fails to reach its destination, packet loss occurs. These lost or dropped packets can result in performance issues. If your network transport protocol provides for packet recovery, a transmitted packet that is lost will be re-sent. However, it will be re-sent along with every other packet of data that had been sent after it. This causes the overall throughput of the connection to drop. Connection difficulties can lie in any of the following sources. Your home network Use of a wireless network Your ISP A third-party Internet connection between your ISP and our host. Occasionally with our provider's network To check the network connection Run a TraceRoutes on Region Smith sim7551.agni.lindenlab.com Run a 3rd party tests at http://www.pingtest.net/ to San Francisco USA to grade your connection. Other Residents can't effectively help you without knowing these details first, so it's absolutely necessary for you to share. and a screenshot of the the Statistics bar.
  17. Definitely report it on Bug Tracker, please Mention that it is not reproducable on Viewer 2.3. When it happens, before you restart the Viewer, please attach a copy of the SecondLife log, in a text file, to the issue, see Crash Logs
  18. Thank you Paladin for your very knowledgable comments I had looked for an issue on Bug Tracker but didn't find anything. But checking, just now, with the extra info re ATI cards, it looks very much like VWR-23884Hard Hang on Mac which was reported against Viewer Second Life 2.3.0. There's also VWR-23976Turning on RenderDeferred causes complete system crash with ATI graphics cards but that's been reported as related to RenderDeferred. .. Just a quick question .. ..which are managed by Apple system updates If the OS being used is 10.4.11; there've been no updates for quite a while. Will Safari / Flash Player etc be up-to-date if the User doesn't manually check ? Problems with blank Search and the ToS windows have been reported by Mac users too. I wonder what should be suggested as a workaround for those users
  19. Sorry to be such a pain Not a pain at all, Faffenella Pleased you've got something sorted. Viewer 2.0.0 is old though and there's been many updates since then. When you are less 'frazzled' : ) try a later version.
  20. Hmmm, can you try Viewer 1.23 or Viewer 2.2. which can be downloaded from here, http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versions, and see if you can log in with those versions.
  21. Aah, you have an Intel Mac Although the OS is a few years old, it should work with Viewer 2. You might have a corrupt setting; try completely uninstalling ALL Viewers, saving any chat logs, if you wish. How do I fully uninstall and reinstall Second Life? Make sure the all Caches, User Settings and content of any Temporary folders are also deleted. Check that you have the full version of Flash Player (including the player for Firefox/Safari), see Version Test for Adobe Flash Player, and the latest Quicktime and Java. Reboot your computer. Hello Faffenella, if you have PowerPC-based Mac System Support Note: As of Viewer 2, Second Life will be supported on Intel Macs (OSX 10.4 and above) only - PowerPC-based Macs running Viewer 2 will not be supported. Viewer 1.23 will continue to support the PPC platform. To download Viewer 1.23 please go here. If you choose to delete the Viewer 2 please save any chat logs before removing the programme. If you have an Intel Mac, please post your System info Asking for tech help? Be sure to provide your system info! 24. Hello Irene : ) .. quick answer .. Yes, less things to be drawn on your screen. From SL Wiki Skybox .. Skybox heights typically start at 500 m. The "classic clouds" layer is at about 150-225 m Why bother? Performance - What's in the sky is a lot less dense than what's on the ground. When less things need to be rendered, performance improves. From Turn off WindLight rendering there's minor improvement in some cases is to turn off 'Classic Clouds' And from Troubleshooting teleporting Fly Up, then Teleport Your current location may be preventing you from teleporting successfully. Fly to an altitude of 200 meters. Residents can check - Statistics Bar to see the performance of your computer and the Second Life world - Fast Timers results to see what's using your computer power.
  25. Hello Kaiden, if you have a Coalesced Object that you want to rez, please see .You will need to contact Support at http://secondlife.com/support for their help in seperating the items.
