  1. This article on the Microsoft site Understanding Windows Firewall gives you information about Displaying a notification when Windows Firewall blocks a program. Or, if you want to play a multiplayer network game with friends overthe Internet, you can add the game as an exception so that the firewallwill allow the game information to reach your computer. To add a program to the exceptions list 1. Click Start and then click Control Panel. 2. In the control panel, click Security Center, and then click Windows Firewall. 3. On the Exceptions tab, under Programs and Services, select the check box for the program or service that you want to allow, and then click OK. If you can turn on notifications for any other internet security programmes then you can see what is blocking your access to Second Life.

  3. Hello Cheetah, can you watch the video(s) through the Quicktime programme ? see Test the movie outside of Second Life Qie Niangao had a suggestion on this similar Question Re: Why is video streaming on one computer, not another You'll probably end up uninstalling Quicktime altogether andreinstalling it, but one thing you can try first is to empty theQuicktime cache. You can do that from the Advanced tab of theQuicktime Control Panel, or in the Quicktime Player's "QuicktimePreferences". Which OS do you have ? Re: Windows 7 and SL Video Ihave the latest version of Quicktime and the latest drivers for myvideo card. I've found out it's my Antivirus. I have Kaspersky InternetSecurity 2010 (version 9.0.0.736(a)) and I found that if I disable it,video works perfectly. But if I leave it on, all I get is a big Q andblue dots running back and forth (the loading/connecting screen).Quicktime works fine for, like, Apple's trailer site. Seems Kasperskyis blocking URL connection for Quicktime video. See also this Question Windows 7 and Quicktime Have you checked for any network connection issues, see How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? and Make sure you have enough bandwidth Have you tried completely uninstalling the Second Life Viewer, saving chat logs if you wish. How do I fully uninstall and reinstall Second Life? Make sure the Second Life Cache, User Settings and content of any Windows Temporary folders are also deleted. Uninstall the Quicktime programme and reboot your computer. Download and install the latest version of Quicktine for your OS. Reboot your computer again. 5. Hello Teddi, please see the replies on this Question hovering attachments in regular SLviewer?? It's an Emerald Viewer feature of Secondary Attachment Points If you have not yet noticed, you can attach items to duplicate attachment points. If you choose to do this, keep in mind that *Linden Lab's officialviewer will not display these items correctly*. (Either they will notappear, or *they will not be in the correct location*).
  6. 8. Hello Kellylee, this is a known issue, if the original notecard was created using a Viewer released before Second Life 1.23.5 (136262) Oct 14 2009 12:08:26 (Second Life Release). Workaround: Try copy and pasting the information into a New Note. 9. Hello Richelieu, I apologise for replying in English. If you Save a log of Local Chat on your computer, see Preferences > Communication > Logging Options, it is possible the file is very large and writing to the file is causing these delays. Close the Viewer, then using the Path in Logging options to find the file, move it to another part of your Hard Disk to save the information. Restart the Viewer and a new Local Chat log will be created. You can check your network connection here How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? and see a detailed list of information about the performance of your computer and the Second Life world from the Statistics Bar Hope this helps
  10. Your graphics card combines the textures from all your clothing/skin layers and uploads a combined, "Baked" image to the Region server. This baked image is downloaded to other Avatars to be decoded by their graphics card and displayed on their screen. If there's your image in their Cache, this can be used until the new baked image is downloaded. EDIT: Sindy Tsure posted a great link to the offical article Re: Why I appears always to everyone with wrong clothes, or as a cloud or gray? .. edit: also, if you want to get your geek on, the process that's notworking for you is called 'baking'. Kelley Linden wrote up a goodarticle a few years back on how that process all works: https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/features/blog/2006/09/18/getting-technical-baked-avatar-textures.
  11. Hello Evangeline, try the suggestions in this article in Second Life Wiki Knowledge Base article Fixing avatar appearance. Also, move the Second Life Viewer onto your primary monitor, or change your primary monitor in your computer's display control panel. Sometimes having the Viewer on your secondary monitor can mess up graphics. If the problem still persists: Go to Edit > Preferences. Click Graphics tab and check Custom to show additional options. Uncheck Hardware Skinning. Click OK" button to confirm, and see if that resolves the issue. You may also need to restart the Viewer. Right click on your Avatar and select Detach All Access and wear a default avatar Step 1: Display Advanced menu The Advanced menu contains useful but entirely optional settings for Second Life Residents. See this article for details on how to make the Advanced menu appear. Step 2: Choose Test Male or Test Female Go to Advanced > Character > Character Tests. Choose either Test Male or Test Female. Close the Viewer and shutdown your computer. Before you log into Second Life Clear the Cache from Outside Second Life You can check the Disk Cache location from the login screen Edit > Preferences > Network. Try unplugging your modems and routers for a full minute, then plug them back in and log into Second Life. Log into Region Pooley or Aqua, see Changing your login location and let your Inventory fully load. While you are still at Pooley or Aqua, wear your usual clothes, attachments and HUDs. See Reducing lag Make sure your computer meets all of the Minimum System Requirements. It's best to exceed them in order to prevent bottlenecks, since the minimum system requirements are the minimum hardware required to run Second Life at all. A slower processor, older video card, or low memory can contribute to low framerates. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Take a look at the graphics settings in the Preferences window if you haven't already. Try moving the Quality and Performance slider to Low. Check to see if your hard drive light is showing a lot of activity. If it is, then your system may be running low on memory and using hard drive swap space instead, which is significantly slower. Hope some of these suggestions help
  12. Hello Dakota, try shutting down your computer. Unplug your modems and routers for one full minute, then plug them back in. Start your computer and check the voice recording is working before you start Second Life. Before you log in, Clear the Cache from Outside Second Life You can check the Disk Cache location from the login screen Edit > Preferences > Network Check Preferences > Voice Chat > Device Settings to make sure you are seeing the green bars in the Input Level Log into Region Voice Echo Canyon, see Changing your login location and let your Inventory fully load. There were some Voice issues reported earlier this week on SL Grid Status If you report this to Support at https://support.secondlife.com they can escalate to Engineering if it's a Grid-wide issue. Hope this helps

  18. Hello Faubio, see this article in SL Wiki KB Linkability Rules
  19. The official advice is SL Wiki KB Linden Lab Official:Someone in Second Life who I don't like keeps Instant Messaging me and following me around. What can I do? First, you should let them know their behavior is unwelcome and should stop. If making your intentions clear doesn't work: Note:If you IM with; Pay L$ to; or Give inventory to someone you've muted, they'll be unmuted, and chat history will inform you what's happened. If they continue to track you, check to see if they're on your Friends list: Click the Friends button at the bottom of the screen. If you find their name on the list, select it and click Remove. If trouble continues, file an abuse report by selecting Help > Report Abuse. Include sufficient details about what's going on. It will be investigated and your identity will be kept anonymous.
  20. Hello Kristina, see these articles in SL Wiki KB Something that's attached to me keeps animating me and producing errors. How do I make it stop? and Something happened and now I'm bouncing all over the world like it's a trampoline. What do I do now? Hope this helps
  21. Hello Charlotte, please see Reducing lag and How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? Make sure your computer meets all of the Minimum System Requirements. It's best to exceed them in order to prevent bottlenecks, since theminimum system requirements are the minimum hardware required to runSecond Life at all. A slower processor, older video card, or low memorycan contribute to low framerates. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Take a look at the graphics settings in the Preferences window if you haven't already. Try moving the Quality and Performance slider to Low. Check to see if your hard drive light is showing a lot ofactivity. If it is, then your system may be running low on memory andusing hard drive swap space instead, which is significantly slower. You might need to turn your bandwidth settings down in the Preferences window if your computer is receiving more network data than it can handle. Make sure your Internet connection meets Second Life's minimum system requirements. If you're using wireless networking, you should trytroubleshooting with a direct wired connection; we allow, but do notsupport the use of wirless network connections. Try opening the Statistics bar and seeing what your Ping Sim and Packet Lossvalues are. The ping values are the time (in milliseconds) it takes toreach the server from your computer. If this number is high, it couldindicate a problem with your network or internet connection. If Packet Loss is a nonzero number, your network or ISP may be having issues. What is packet loss? Packets of data travel across computer networks, including the Internet, home or any corporate network. If one or more of these packets fails to reach its destination, packet loss occurs. These lost or dropped packets can result in performance issues. If your network transport protocol provides for packet recovery, a transmitted packet that is lost will be re-sent. However, it will be re-sent along with every other packet of data that had been sent after it. This causes the overall throughput of the connection to drop. Typical causes of packet loss.High packet loss results in "lag".Connection difficulties can lie in any of the following sources: Your home network Use of a wireless network Your ISP A third-party Internet connection between your ISP and our host. Occasionally with our provider's network. Hope this helps

  25. If the Avatars have one single name then yes, they are sharing one Account and one password, which looking at ToS doesn't seem to be against the rules, but it's quite clearly entirely at their own risk. Personally, I think that if this sharing was mentioned, then any request for LL Support would be rejected.
