People used to be virtually forced off their parcels when someone would open a Club rendering the SIM almost unlivable because of the lag fest. I believe in being a good neighbor myself, but not everyone does this. Can really suck at times. I actually encountered this exact scenario on a mainland plot back my early days. I owned half of the region which had a prefab store on it, a new club opened up on the other half. The increase in lag was instantaneous for me and at peak times they filled up the region and my customers could not even get into the store. The whole thing got very messy and petty and it nearly put me out of business. The only way I could stay in business was to take control of the traffic. I was running between 30 and 40 bots constantly, manually adding and removing them as my customer numbers increased or decreased. This was difficult to maintain but eventually I managed to drive the club out of business and they abandoned their land. I ended up paying through the nose for the other half sim at auction to stop it happening again. It was a **bleep** thing to do on my part, but it was either them or me...so I chose me. Thank heavens for traffic gaming :-)

It is a new piece of Software that is going to be demo'd at SIGGRAPH in November of this year, SIGGRAPH is a large annual graphics conference To be honest there is not much more info I have found beyond that, although I didn't look for long. I expect there will be allot more reviews of this software come Nov.

And when you consider the implicaitons of this technology combined with 3D printing, in 10 years time anyone with the approproate kit could possibly create a 3D model and print it out with only a mininal skillset.

The question here is HOW are they Identified. We know that some of them use Alt accounts. But where is the proof? Yes, you are right, there are no general methods for identifying Alt-Lindens. In my case he approached me to chat about what I was working on, on the beta grid, and the conversation moved on him recounting a conversation we once had in one of my stores whilst he was using his Linden Av. I remembered the conversation well as I have only encountered Lindens in my stores 3 times in all the years I have been here, I asked him why he was using an alt and he told he was "undercover", followed by a winking smiley face....so I did not enquire any further. In the last 6 months I have seen him on my radar maybe 10 times on the beta grid. On the majority of occasions he is with either one or two other av's, also non Lindens. I am wondering if these are also Linden alts...however it would not be very cool to go up and ask them so I just chill and carry on with my work. I will admit that on the few occasions they have come near me I started rezzing some of my best pieces to try and engage them into conversation and a possible sales pitch.....but alas they just ignore me, other than an occasional "Hi".

Linden Lab sucks. well there is if we go longer..like annually.. it's like 70 usd i think? that's about the only thing i know of.. but really anyone gets that deal... i guess maybe our stripen is a perk if we are older.. they kncks it down pretty far also.. Oh yeah I forgot about that! I DO pay annually, and I DO get the L$500 per week on all my premium accounts. So infact, my current premium accounts all actually make me profit just for keeping them going....so I actually have no reason to complain for once and will just STFU.

  10. Pamela Galli wrote: Is EVE Online a game? I looked at it and did not see any work opportunities. Yeah, it's an MMO set in space. No opportunities to create or import original content though. There is a way to make real USD from EVE but you need high level characters and the ability (in game skills), blueprints and resources to manufacture the high price tag items. There is then a very convoluted process one can go through to convert your game money into real money, however it violates EVE's TOS in the process.

The only alternative to SL at the moment is EVE Online, which is growing like wildfire under a brilliant management team. I pray daily that CCP Games will buy Linden Lab and take SL into the 21st century. My sentiments exactly. I've tried every notable virtual world out there. IMVU is a great alternative platform to sell content but beyond that it sucks. The only other virtual world I have committed to over the years is EVE. 9 years nearly in both EVE and SL. In SL pretty much everyone I have known is gone. In EVE I can name at least 20 people who have been very active for over 7 years and still are now. I think that says allot about the EVE and CCP's ability to retain users when compared to LL.
  12. I see mesh as an alternative rather than a replacement for regular prim/sculpts. When I started creating in mesh I launched new brands so that I could keep my mesh and non mesh content separate. The non mesh still sells very well and after focusing on mesh for 2 years I am now building new content in sculpts and prims as there is still allot of demand for it, especially with prefab buildings as customers want the ability to rip them apart and to customize them. I think there is room for mesh and non mesh content in SL and customers are confirming that with their wallets.
  13. Tiffy Vella wrote: I absolutely agree with you. And, after being in business in RL and SL, I can tell you he's wrong. That's NOT how it usually works. I completely disagree. If you create good content then you are likely to be copybotted multiple times. That is the norm rather than the exception in SL and has to be factored into your business plan if you have one.
  14. Frawmusl wrote: Someone copybotted a copyrighted design.. Interesting. Also intriguing is that I did not know you could copybot sculpts, Did you perhaps leak your sculptmaps in various places? A sculpted prim is no different to any other prim, so it can be ripped off although not the sculpt map itself. To the OP, hundreds if not thousands of us have been ripped off in SL. You need to try using the DMCA process to get the content taken down. Google it, there is a procedure guide in the wiki. In the meantime you could send a very formal notecard to the thief, threaten them with legal action and anything else that is not prosecutable in court. I have scared many a thief into quitting just by being overly aggressive towards them. Also check if the thief has an inworld store. If they do, and it is rented, then you can contact the estate owner, politely tell them about your issue and try and get the thief kicked off of their land. I like it when this happens as it inevitably costs the thief money. If all this fails then you have the DMCA process to fall back upon, although if the thief knows how to "play the game" then the DMCA process is next to useless in 99% of cases. Good luck.

  19. Hi, If you are looking for videos there is a website you may not have heard of called Youtube. This website hosts a selection of videos that would meet your requirements.
  20. I feel your pain Czari. I have been upgrading recently and got a new card and 2 new monitors. The card has 3 ports, one DVI-I which can be used to plug a vga cable in using a DVI adapter, this would run an analogue signal, Another port is DVI-D which is used for running a digital signal and the 3rd port is HDMI. So I went and bought 2 brand new HD digital monitors so I could duel screen and both of them came only with a VGA cable! I was amazed, no cabling or adapters included to connect the digital monitors to digital ports. Dillion is spot on when she said that monitors seem to be out of sync with graphics cards nowadays. I also feel your pain with fitting large graphics cards inside cramped towers. Been there and done that too many times. So on this build I got a Coolermaster case which is just massive. You can run allot of the wiring around the back of the mobo leaving the main chamber less cluttered to give improved airflow. Also makes it allot easier to get the video card in and out as required. Here are some pics of my build :matte-motes-big-grin:
