  1. You're not the only one. Who only knows how many other people are also effected.
  2. That avatar does not have any hair with it. You need to go into your inventory and find the hair you were wearing before. Right click it and wear and you'll have your hair back on. As to the items you bought, the advert states that there are two shapes with the package and that one of these shapes has copy/mod perms. I am guessing you liked the face at least and it is the body you do not like so much. What you need to do is find the copy/mod version of the shape in your inventory. Now right click it and select copy. Right click and select paste. Rename one of the shapes by appending the word "edited" to the end of its title. Leave the original in your inventory and always work on the copy. That way if you make a mistake you can always make a new copy of the original to start over with. Keep the original unaltered. Now simply wear the shape you changed the title of. Go into the appearance menu and use the sliders to modify the shape (make it taller or whatever you like....if you ruin the shape with your editing, just throw it in the trash and generate a new editing copy from your clean original). Good luck.
  3. Actually if your media preferences are not set up to prevent it you will stream media automatically and that comes from outside of LL's servers. As does media on a prim.
  4. Release notes will be posted on the Commerce Forum after the release has been completed. Wow, how nice.
  5. I can pay using my US dollar balance. You might need a verified payment method to incur an ongoing charge though (like premium subscription). LL have been tinkering with the payment methods for months. If you have a verified pay pal account, it might be currently possible to use that to get payment info on file. So long as you have valid payment info on file, you should be able to pay LL using the US dollar balance on your account.
  6. Karen, you can lock prims in place using your edit menu. This is a good idea for things like houses.
  7. If you do not want to see an archtypical "spooky kid' at a well designed haunted/horror house, then maybe you should choose to stay away from such locations. If you do not want to see a child warrior character fighting it out on a gritty but non-sexual combat sim, maybe you should stay away from such areas. If you do not want to see a child avatar in a non-sexual store with zero sexual content, located on mature or adult rated land, maybe you should stay away from such places. Presumably you have the control over your own behaviour that you apparently would like to exert over other peoples'. I suggest you make use of the control you do have rather than wishing for control over others that you do not have.
  8. It took longer than the offer is available for me to set up a payment method when I went premium. The thing about existing premium members is that provably, they can pay and are willing to do so. Why not offer members who are renewing a premium subscription, the option to upgrade another account for two say thirds the usual price, the discount ongoing so long as both accounts are continuously premium? This kind of upsell would be economic for LL as any one person will probably not double their support needs if they have two premium accounts (nor triple their needs if they have three premium accounts), and there is plenty of land around for-sale/abandoned using up server space in any case. Upselling extra premium accounts to existing premium members would likely have very low overheads. Most account holders will probably not use any more support despite having more accounts "premium" (someone renewing a premium subscription probably has lower support needs than a new user who has not yet learned the ropes), stipend costs LL nothing, and there is so much free land around that LL would not need to increase server space to support the additional tier. By only offering this to account holders who are renewing a premium account, it would off-set offers only made to new accounts/newly upgraded accounts (it would act as a loyalty bonus for those inclined to spend more while renewing their subscription, while also adding to LL's revenue). Best of all much (possibly all) of the discount would probably be offset by the fact that any one owner of two or more accounts, is unlikely to double their support needs, and there is enough surplus mainland to support the additional tier.

Unemployment's high right now so you can probably commission it relatively inexpensively on Amazon's Mechanical Turk or bribe a friend who codes with beer and doritos. Aha, that's all nice and well in pie in sky world. In reality, the kind of user LL is courting either finds what they want, or they take their time (and money) elsewhere. There are many entertainment offerings on the internet competing for their attention and they do not need to waste their limited leisure and relaxation time on offerings that require they find out what "forking code" means, or commission someone to tailor end-user access tools, particularly since for most such people, these activities are anything but relaxing and how they wish to spend their limited leisure time. What part of out "out-of-box user" goes over your head?

Real User: Hi Bot: I'm a bot, I am doing "X", my owner is "Y". Please eject me from your land if you prefer me not to be here and IM my owner "Y" to be added to my no-go list. That makes sense. In fact, all bots should be required to respond with such a message, or have a text like this in their profile. This could also be done with a busy mode message, so this doesn't really require an elaborate chatbot. Would it be fair to assume that bots who are not clearly identifiable as bots and don't state their owner and purpose are probably up to no good? Should it be possible to AR these rogue bots? Sorry, I did not see your reply earlier. I think it would definatly be a good idea if LL operated a non-bot list so that owners could ban bots from a parcel if they prefer not to have any around. And I do think that if someone is going to send bots off their own parcel, that they should list an account people can IM and get a response from in the profile (or using the busy message as you suggest). I'm not sure all bots not identifying their owner's active/responsive account (and stating their purpose) are up to no good. They might just have thoughtless or self-absorbed owners.

    Alts

I love alts. I'd go out of business if all my customers only had one avatar to buy stuff for.
  12. Well, if I had a bunch of bots, I'd want them to chat information about what they are and what they are doing to land owners etc if contacted in IM. 13. Sure, the first 512 of tier is included in your premium membership. But if the whole thing bothers you so much, you can forego the membership, use your 10 dollars per month to buy lindens, and rent from someone else. 10 dollars worth of lindens per month should keep you in a rented home and leave you lindens to spend.

It's called "fork the code and make your own UI" and preferably "submit a patch back to the Lindens." The viewer's open source: If you're complaining that it sucks, and not doing anything about it, you're part of your own problem. Which of these chooses are easily accessible to people who cannot fork the code, make their own UI or submit a patch back to the lindens? You know the kind of average internet user that LL has realised SL's continued viability relies on?
  15. Ishtara Rothschild wrote: Soda is the German word for natron or baking soda, so it always looks quite strange to me when someone refers to a drink as soda. Baking soda is bicarbonate soda, which is commonly used to carbonate water. All soft drinks (or soda pops, sodas, pops, cokes....lol) are carbonated. Soda water was an early popular carbonated drink, so it makes sense the soda might be used to refer to flavoured variations. The pop no doubt refers to the action of the carbon bubbles (the bubbles form and pop). Older references I have seen in print refer to "soda pop" so both soda and pop are probably localized derivatives of soda pop. I believe I heard somewhere that soft drink references the absence of alcohol. Another name I do not recall being mentioned in this thread yet is "fizzy drink" which again refers to action of the carbon.

Lipsticks are the most problematic because there can be a lot of variation as to how far the skin creator brings their lipstick line out on the skin (you can end up with the skin lipstick showing around the edges of the make up lipstick). Some lipstick make up layers avoid having a hard line and fade toward their edges, so that if you put them on a skin with a compatable lip color, the makeup blends into the skin lipstick at the edges. Eye make up is less of an issue although there can be conflict between lashes drawn onto the skin.
  17. Ishtara Rothschild wrote: If we choose an appearance that is bound to disturb others on some level, isn't that a form of griefing? But imagine somebody who wears a colostomy bag in RL. This person has a realistic prim ostomy pouch custom-made for himself in SL and wears this attachment at a nude beach. Is that really so different from abovementioned SA goon who posed as giant walking... . Or probably even worse. Of course this person's intentions would be different, but then again, I can also imagine a griefer wearing such an attachment. I have to admit that I would ban this hypothetical person, immersionist or not. In terms of being a griefer, absolutely it's different. Griefing is all about intent. Doing something that is bound to upset someone is not griefing in itself. Simply calling yourself a christian, atheist, buddist, or muslim or "..." is bound to upset someone in any sizeable and international audience, but it's not griefing. Is the avatar with the colostomy bag different in terms of whether or not this goes beyond what you personally choose to discomfort yourself to tolerate? Apparently not and that's ok. Choosing to exclude some things that discomfort you from your own sim is not necessarily intolerant. Just as people have a right to wear what they want within the TOS land owners have a right to exclude things that make them feel icky. It's generally people who automatically assume someone must be to blame every time their ick-response is triggered and that it definately is not them, who are intolerant.
  18. Mayalily wrote: Oh, thanks for letting me know that. I thought I was being a pain in the neck when I was homeless because my avatar would always be moved somewhere else (to a different sim) when I logged back on. I thought that might be the case. So, I was wondering what was up with that? I assumed I was a pain in the neck on their sim as they always moved my avatar to a whole other location. I think sometimes you cannot log into a place unless itis set as your home location. If you log out from such a place then you will be re-routed elsewhere if you try to log into last location. I think the thing I love most about renting is it's a private place to work on creative things, even including working on the shape of your avatar without distraction, and there is no big commitment as it's a week to week basis. So, you could even rent for one week to try it, and then if you don't like it, you can be homeless again, and not be out much money at all just for trying for one week. I love having my own place too. I love that it's my little slice of the grid to do with as I please, small and insignificant as it is..:matte-motes-grin:
  19. Someone's contribution is not measurable by whether or not they have a home. Whether someone pays 100 lindens a week to large estate owner for a little house, or chooses to spend that money donating to the tier for a favoured sim, or spends it on a rent-paying merchant's creations, 100 lindens is still 100 lindens. Theavatar renting a home could as easily be a "leech" who has not put any of their own cash into SL rather than vice versa. Both or neither might have put money into the SL.
  20. Ok, I was trying to list some new items the other day and did not know which category. I tried to use the 'browse' thing in the category select pop up box, but of course it was not working. For some reason I thought the miscellaneous category was a junk-all category and that an item would not be delisted from there for being in the wrong category (thought I had read that somewhere....must have been wishful thinking on my part....lol). But clearly I got that wrong because the whole batch of items was removed (which was a ltitle less silly than the time a freebie item was delisted for wrong category while the full priced version of the same item was left where it was). So I have been searching for other similar items and they seem to be split between "food and drink" and "birthday". For a birthday cake, I honestly cannot work out which is the more appropriate category. So where would others suggest I list a birthday cake? Birthday or food and drink? It's definately food and drink, yet it's definately for a birthday too. It really would be so much better if the removal notice specified this information.
  21. Mayalily wrote:. Some sim owner's don't like dead bots hanging around, as they need to be sim maintenance, etc. So when we are homeless, we are considered a pain in the neck. Huh? I understand most of your post, but homeless avatars do not use anymore resources than any other kind of avatar visiting a sim. I once read the cutest story about someone who when they were new, was always trying to hide their avatar before they logged off so that it would not get molested while they were gone. This was not necessary because when you log off, your avatar de rezzes and ceases to exist in-world until you log back in again.
  22. You'd probably be ok if it came down to a legal ruling, although getting there might bankrupt you in the meantime and of course there is scope for localized legal variation and judicial idiocy to impact the outcome.
  23. I'm fairly certain someone else posted what sounded like a similar or same problem within the last few weeks. Like me, none of the usual measures (re-syncing, resetting out the box) seemed to help, and the issue resolved itself after a time (it might even have been around 24 hours, although I'm going from memory here). Not sure if you read or posted in that thread, but it was fairly recently if you are interested in looking for it.
  24. I'd love to have separate categories or a filter to exclude demos or to exclude non demos. Search by price 'low to high' returns both, but if you only want demos the freebie results waste time and push demos you want to look at back in page order (which unnecessarily minimizes product exposure for merchants appearing further back in search results). Vice versa when someone wants a freebie or dollarbie rather than a demo.
  25. I disagree with the things under 25 lindens. I think 10 is a reasonable cut off. At 10 a commission is paid to LL even if only the single item is sold. As a customer, I do not expect to have go delving among freebies to pick up a single color eye shadow or lipstick layer that costs 20 lindens. That's not a freebie or promo price, but a reasonable amount to pay for a full working, full priced product of this nature. Anything from 10 lindens and upwards is a full priced item for some product ranges. Customers should not have to trawl amongst the over abundance of demo items just to find a full priced eye shadow tattoo layer on the basis that this would be a give away price for entirely unrelated product types. 10 lindens might be a give away price for a scripted, textured, sculpty creation with animations (as an example), but for a single texture eye make up tattoo layer, that's a full priced product. It's at the budget end of the range, but by no means a give away price for an item of this kind.
