  1. In the "old days" griefers routinely took the whole of Secondlife down...yet the business, it is not ruined. LL probably do not IP block people often, if at all. I certainly hope they don't do this routinely. The reason for this is that it can cause whole countries to be blocked from accessing Secondlife if barely half a dozen people from that region misbehave, and there is no certainty that the person it is intended to block will actually be blocked at all. They may have spoofed their IP address, or they may have a dynamic IP (most griefers will actually spoof their IP if they intend to have a long career). LL are more likely to ban by MAC, but even this can be spoofed.
  2. Wow, sounds like a real sweetheart. Reminds me of that club owner that went on a sexist swearing rampage when someone found the RedZone unit he swore black and blue he did not have. Coincidently, that chap sounds a lot like the fool Tini describes. Some people appear to flip on a dime, when really, they've just been unmasked. I think it's probably the case that folk like this all look pretty much the same under the thin veneer of respectability they swaddle themselves in most of the time.

LL still needed to make sure everything was separated before they could make a move like they did..that under aged would still have to lie or cheat to enter those areas they are not allowed.. Which all seems rather irrelevant if the point is to prevent them from accessing adult content, since G rated land conjoins M rated land and one can stand in G rated land and not only see content in moderate land, but interact with it, including vendors selling content teens are not supposed to have... Teens do not need to tell a single lie to buy non-G rated content from a vendor situated on an M-rated parcel that conjoins a G-rated parcel. Another hot mess brought to you by the fine folks at the Lab. @Darrius, no such clear barrier exists given the fact that G and M sit side by side all over the mainland and teens can interact with content (including vendors) on M rated land. Of course this problem could and would have been avoided entirely if they'd frogmarched the G rated content off to it's own continent...
  4. Yes, it is your blog!:matte-motes-big-grin-wink:
  5. Darrius Gothly wrote: I also align with Phil in total dismay that this level of incompetence is allowed to persist. Seriously As do I. Particularly since this is a company that "educates" us punitively because in their view we are too lazy and apathetic to learn, or to behave responsibly and competently otherwise. Might I suggest to LL that it stop projecting its internal culture onto its customers? And of course being treated like dirty little cheats at every turn, is insulting and offensive.
  6. Do you wait a few moments and then do a rebake? Is this happening regardless what you are wearing (if you do a char test and put on a tattoo layer and rebake if necessary, does this fix the problem)? Is this a particular tattoo, or all tattoo layers?
  7. Do put a ticket in Pol; even Basic accounts can put a ticket in. Good luck!
  8. Anyone is better off doing this method and if you can follow Robin's tutorial, you're definately up for it. It's simply opening two documents, cutting/pasting and then saving a document. It sounds complicated because directions nearly always do...try explaining how to walk for instance....simple task, but really complicated sounding directions. Please give it a try because you'll need to be able to cut and paste between documents if you intend to keep using Gimp to do fun and interesting stuff, and I promise it is much, much easier than it sounds. Keep this window open while doing the steps. Let me know if you have trouble with any of the steps and I will clarify it. Open eloh's template file just as you usually would. In the layers/paths/channels window (the one where you close the eyes), left click the base layer just as though you were about to close it's eye. OK, that is obviously something that you can do because you did it before you closed a single eye when you went through and closed them all individually. The rest is just as easy....so carry on to step 3! In the main window click "Select" (it's along the top between "Edit" and View"), and then click "Select All". This is to make sure you get the whole layer). Right click anywhere on the image in the main window. A drop down menu will appear, left click "edit" in this drop down menu, and then left click "copy" (just like when you copy text from a text document). Click File now, (top of main window,on the very left hand side, next to edit) and click "New" ; a pop up window will appear. In the pop up window, punch in 1024 and 1024 for height and width and then click "OK". A new main editing window will open. Click on this window to make sure it is active. Now right click in the main area of this window and then click "edit" and then click "paste into" (The layer will now appear in this window). Click "file" at the top of the new window that you pasted the layer into, and click "save as". A box will pop up for you to type in the name of the file. Type in "eloh_base_layer.xcf" without the quotation marks and hit enter. You're done! Repeat the cut and pasting to transfer the extra layers you need later (when you get to that part of Robin's tutorial). Trust me, it is much quicker than turning off every layer, and it is a lot easier than it might sound if you try to make sense of it without following along step by step. So long as you have this window open and just do each step as described, it's really quick and simple. It will take you less time than it took to type this all out. Give it a go and surprise yourself. You can do more than you think. I have every confidence that you can do this!
  9. It sounds like you might need to do a complete uninstall first, and clean up any left over files. If you are unsure about this then hopefully someone will come along to tell you how to do this as I'm a bit unclear on exactly which files you will need to mop up manually and how to find them on various computers/Operating Systems In the meantime, you could post your computer type/OS here so that people can give you specific instructions to help you find the stray files you will need to locate and uninstall so you can do a clean install.
  10. If there is, I do not know it. As a workaround, highlight the layer you want to retain. Select all. Copy or Cut. Close the window and open a new file of the same size (ie 1024/1024 or 512/512). Use "Paste into". Viola! Save the file (with a different name to the original file, for instance append 'base" to the end of the file name) at this point so that you do not need to do this process each time. If you then discover you want one of the other layers as well, simply re-open the original file and repeat the process to paste the layer you want into your "base" file.
  11. You might want to give Pheonix a go. There is a good chance it will run as well or better than 1.23 on your computer, and it includes some of the features you would get in V2, and kind of bridges the gap between 1.23 and V2 in some features (for instance 1.23=no alpha, Pheonix=1 alpha at a time, V2=multiple alpha layers). Pheonix also has some features that have never been in the standard LL viewers. Personally, I love the temp uploads!
  12. That is how some designers continue to do it. Other designers use a single script in the root prim for resizing. Better still, many use a single, deletable script in the root prim and include copy perms.
  13. Wow! Ridiculous. I'm pleased you've tracked down the problem so you can at least choose to get rid of the adult rating while you wait on the ticket. I hope you get a good outcome from your ticket. Good luck! I googled p38 and apparently it refers to such "adult" material as an inland revenue related employer's statement, an airfighter (funnily enough....I'm sure you knew that one), a class of mitogen-activated protein kinases, and a can/tin opener. Heedy stuff indeed. You can see why under18s need to be protected from knowledge or can/tin openers surely? And I think we can all accept that minors need protecting from the terrible fact that people work and pay taxes...
  14. An alpha layer makes bits of your avatar invisible. Even if you are not using V2, it is possible that your viewer is compatable with alpha layers. Pheonix for example is compatable with alpha layers. Try one on and see. You can wear multiple alpha layers using V2...I'm not sure if this is true of Pheonix though. I'm going to log in now and find out. You can only wear a single alpha layer at a time in Pheonix though.... Alpha layers in shoes replace the old invis-prim method. Not only does it reduce unnecessary prims, but you do not get that halo effect that sometimes happens with the old invis-prims and there are no resizing issues (because alpha layers are textures) There is a very good chance that your view is compatable with alpha layers, but even if it is not, I would keep the layer because it's likely that you'll eventually be using a viewer that is compatable with alpha layers.
  15. I do not know to be honest, but the indication is that the problem is on line 41. I suggest you take out the last bracket and see if it will compile while waiting for someone more knowledgable to get back to you, as it might be as simple as having one too many brackets.
  16. Scripts are in things to make them do stuff. The most common use of a script in hair is to provide a means of resizing the hair without enabling modify permissions, but there are other uses as well (for instance changing the color of hair or hair accessories, making hair accessories visible or invisible, or even moving a section of hair so that an avatar appears to chew on it). Prims are the basic building blocks of just about everything you see in Secondlife. If hair is scripted, then it is also made from prims (the other option is "system hair" but system hair is really ugly and virtually no one uses it anymore, so even if your hair is not scripted, it's probably still made from prims). If you sit on a chair, it's made from prims. If you see a house....it's made from prims. A lot of your clothes are made from prims (the ones that are 3d objects rather than "painted" on). In fact all of your clothes are either "texture" and look painted onto your avatar, or are made from prims. Any item that looks like a box in your inventory, is a prim.
  17. There is much the designers of the market place do not understand......oh so very much! But you are quite right, they should certainly have included a "wish list" function. I think LL want you to do your socializing and chit-chatting on Facebook, which is apparently the best place to keep up with Secondlife goings-on also (weird huh?). Just do not try to make a profile for your avatar on Facebook, because while LL are keen on the idea, it violates Facebook's TOS and Facebook will delete it if they find it... According to Rodvik, you can get LL to do just about anything, provided you raise Chulthu, so top of my wish list is a "Raise Chulthu" function being added to lsl.
  18. P-38 triggers adult, but a string including "69" does not? That would not surprise me. My mother always told me to mind my Ps (along with my Qs), but she never mentioned needing to mind my 6s or 9s..... I agree with Darrius' assessment of this rude and inappropriate treatment. It's not as though LL are willing to own up to what triggers the adult rating, because we merchants, who evidently need educating (by punitive means) are not allowed to know in case we try to cheat....being the filthy scum LL knows us all to be...
  19. Sorry, added to my post while you were posting yours. I would strip out all the key words (so as not to complicate matters) and then use trial and elimination in the main text/description to see what could be triggering it. Honestly, it could be something as innocent as "dogfight"..... You're certainly not the first person to have issues with LL's silly automated-nannying.
  20. Perhaps no part.....check your keywords too. The only way to be certain is to remove text and see how that effects the auto rating...You can remove one word at a time, or remove the lot (cutting and pasting it to notepad first) then add back a sentence at a time until you trigger the auto rating. Maybe start by removing "fokker" and see if the auto rating does not change. One possibly lame explanation is that since people sometimes try to get around these things, words that are spelled differently but could be pronounced as though they are swear words, might trigger the auto setting... Good luck figuring it out.
  21. I hope so too Mayalily. LL will probably never delete inactive accounts because they cite the number of existing accounts as a measure of their success. From memory I think there are about 20 million accounts, but well under 1 million regular users... You can even get an account back if you cancel it, although if you leave it too long the inventory will have been purged; also I think they charge you a fee for re-activation, although I am not entirely certain about that. Just a thought Pol, have you checked that your drivers are all up to date for your video card, and that none have become corrupted?
  22. Mayalily wrote: 2) A wish list button added to the Marketplace Website Shopping page (kind of what eBay has where one can store more items, then move them to checkout as desired.) X-Street had that I believe, then LL bought X-Street and made the marketplace....and now we have the delivery-problem causing cart instead..... I have no idea why LL left such a social and income-generating feature out of their marketplace, especially since they had the existing X-Street to work from as a model. A lot of people miss that feature.
  23. Hi, you should be able to detach everything before your inventory loads, by doing a char test. This will dump everything you are wearing and replace it with a library avatar even if your inventory has not finished loading. If you can partially log but then crash, soon afterwards, your account definately still exists and is not banned. Accounts are not deleted for inactivity on Secondlife. Anyone can start a ticket (premium accounts can also access live help during its hours of operation, although basic accounts cannot access live help).
  24. Darrius meant me (and I meant Ciaran...).:smileyvery-happy: I apologize for triggering this chain of misattribution.
  25. Spectran wrote: Better graphics over time-- can it compete with PS3 and Xbox360? Can it compete with film Not on my computer and probably not on yours either, at least not anytime in the next decade or so in all liklihood. Better interactivity-- how easy or possible is it to go jetboarding, skiing, snowboarding, parachuting, flying a kite, adventure gaming, imagining anything, interacting with the environment in any which way? Fairly easy. Usually a matter of "left click". Of course creating the content in the first place is a little more challenging. Vehicles please! Or at least the ability to run, fer Christ's sake. Am I missing something here? There should be the ability to purchase your avatar a vehicle, be it a flying saucer, truck, scuba gear, jet pack, cheetah, snail, or portal gun, all with different speeds. It seems you are missing something. Perhaps your preferences are not set up right if you cannot run (or perhaps you are in basic viewer and it does not offer this option...?) There are many cars. You can probably pick up dozens on them free on the market place. Try searching on the maket place. Better sound synthesis-- when there's a song playing, I don't want to suddenly hear it. I want to slowly hear it more as I get closer to it, just like it is in 'real life'. Same with voices. Music is streamed; you can either hear it on a particular parcel or not. Anyone who can hear it is equally close to the source as everyone else who can hear it. Better customization over time-- customize the flash of light that happens when you warp to new worlds. Customize the way your voice sounds. Customize the censorship. Customize the desires. Customize everything! Warp? You mean TP? I'm not sure what flash of light you mean, but I'm sure you can customize it anyway. You can customize your voice using the in-world tools or using external software. I think censorship customization is best achieved by not looking at and TPing away from anything that distrubs you. Only you can customize your desires. Earn your magic-- maybe you shouldn't even let these people fly to begin with. Make it a game. Do you realize how much you could be selling? !00 Lindens per angel wing~! Okay, maybe we should fly to begin with, just as in a dream. But can you imagine how much more is possible, and what secrets to behold? Only when you won sacred dragonfire can you see what lays behind the curtain! Make it perfectly accessible for people to create a video game in each world! How about the Sims version 900000000000000000! If you want to set up your land so there is no flying, then you can. Wings are something else, being simply decorative (although someone could script wings if they wanted to). There are many ways to play games in SL from combat games, to sailing races, to breedables, etc.... Make a complete synthesis with the genius of the computer! Can you Skype people you know at second life while driving down the street? What's their cyber-cell #? Can I watch true cinema at the cyber-through theatre? Can I completely interact the virtues of my PC with the the Cyberian outback? Certainly possible! You can skype people in Secondlife if they choose to skype with you. I'm not interested in Skype myself, but many people use skype in SL. You can watch movies etc in SL and there's no reason not to watch them in an SL theatre. Infinite programming possibilities Progmaming is limited by such things as accessing in-world memory and the functions offered by lsl, but there are some limited work arounds (by using external servers that communicate with objects within SL). And I'm sure I could think of a bagillion more. Can you? In good conscience, what would you suggest? Honestly, I think you have vastly underestimated what is already, here and now, possible in SL.
