  1. Are sculpty shoes modifiable or are they suppose to just fit when you put them on? Since avatars are all different sizes, prim clothes will tend to need adjustments (sculpties are simply a particular kind of prim so this applies to them also). You need to look at the permissions on an item when you buy it. This is decided by the creator/seller so some sculpty/prim items are modify and some are not. Some use resizer scripts instead or might offer you the option as well as modify. How much of a problem resizer scripts are when used without modify perm, depends on how good you are at editing prims and your shape. For people with a shape that is not too far off what designers tend to use and who are not good at editing prims, resizers might be ok, but most people prefer the control that modify offers, and many people will not buy wearable prim based items (including sculpties) unless it has both copy and modify perms.

  3. Yes Darrius Ciaran, that is what I meant. It's not the delisting in and of itself Phil, although in my view, I do think that for the first three instances an auto-move and warning about delisting if there are further instances would be more customer orientated and would not encourage intentional or lazy mislistings, but I can live without this courtesy. The problem is delisting without providing the information about which specific category the item should be listed in. This is significantly aggravated by having the nerve to claim this is done to educate us because apparently we are too apathetic and lazy to do the job properly otherwise, at best (and are deliberate cheats at worst). This from a company that launched the market place without this basic functionality in the first place!
  4. I think it was probably just that particular pair of boots. The fact that they did not have a foot shaper points to this. Every pair of boots I have ever owned had a foot shaper and I expect you'd need to make a rather large foot to go without it.:matte-motes-big-grin-wink: So far as a resizer script goes, if the boots do nothing when you wear them and left click them, then they probably have no resizer script. They should be modify perm if they have no resizer, and if they both have no resizer and have no modify perm, that's really not acceptable unless they were freebies or limited DEMOs. Most of the recently made boots are sculptie these days, and I doubt that I would buy a pair that is not at least partially constructed from sculpties just because sculpties allow forms and shapes that are just not possible with older style prims, no matter how talented the designer .
  5. De-prioritizing the needed fix, even though not fixing it is creating extra work that ties up those "finite resources" , is ridiculous. The fact is little jobs like this ought to be prioritized before any big job unless the big job involves a show stopper. The category re-sort could be months (or years) away at the speed LL moves (or it could just never eventuate if we are honest), and in the meantime, the failure to complete this little task first is not only frustrating your customers, it is also adding to your team's ongoing workload, slowing down the category re-sort even further, while needlessly chewing up those "finite resources". Fixing this is trivial, and the category fix is months away at best. Priortizing the category sort fix over this fix is a prioritization failure. That would be bad enough, but trotting out this arrogant, high handed and insulting nonsense about "educating us" (punitively) while refusing to supply such basic and obviously necessary information, truely takes the cake. You seem surprised that an organization that behaves like this would get "vicious" complaints. Blaming the customers for this design failure on LL's part, spinning nonesense about needing to punish us to educate us, while refusing to supply the information we need to be "educated" is insultiing and inexcusable, no matter how finite your resources are!
  6. Don't buy the sculpty boots, they make your avatar feet look 10 sizes too big, and that's not girlie. What? @ Cinnamon, if you are looking for boots, you should almost certainly get ones made with sculpties as any other kind are archaic at this point and generally tend to be ugly as all hell. There are many fine sculpty boots that do not make feet look big. In fact I am mystified by the claim that sculptie boots somehow make feet look too big in some way. It makes as much sense as telling you to not buy yellow clothes because you will look too grim and gloomy. If you buy hair, please get copy perm hair. Make a copy in your inventory. Rename the original by tagging "original" to the end of the name if it has modify perm. Otherwise (if there is no "modify permission" on the hair) rez a box and call it the name of the hair with "original" tacked on the end and pop your original hair in it (then take the box back into your inventory). Always work on a copy of your hair rather than the original. You can size the copy you made and delete the scripts when you are happy with it. If you need to resize at any time, simply make another copy from your original (which will still have the scripts in it). Always get copy perm hair and work on a copy when making alterations, keeping your original hair unaltered for generating new copies from. It's unlikely that deleting scripts will alter how your hair moves, as most scripts in hair have nothing to do with hair movement but rather effect the size or texture. So long as you keep the original hair and work on a copy, you can always delete a copy that you have "ruined" and generate a new one from your original anyway. So the important thing is that your hair is "copy" perm (if it does not have copy, I advise you not to buy it), and that you always work on a copy of the hair rather than your original.
  7. I do not know why they are so absurdly, stupidly slow to load, but I just hit the little button to load the profiles in my internet browser. You can literally wait around for minutes otherwise, if the profile ever loads at all.

  9. Retention rates are low enough as it is. The overwhelming majority of new accounts are not griefers. You should AR the culprits and consider another sandbox. Problems with griefers should not be allowed to dictate the way the grid operates. Feel free to buy or rent land though if you wish to build without rubbing shoulders with those nasty unwashed newbies. It's bad enough the Lindens let landowners list in the Destination Guide without explicitly stating when they have their land set up to send new avatars home....especially since that script often causes the avatar on the receiving end to have problems that many new users are not prepared yet to deal with. Secondlife needs to be easier and friendlier for new users given that retention rates are a particular problem, not more exclusionary and difficult as your proposal entails.
  10. I got one last night from a store I had never been to before, never done business with, and which claimed I could unsubscribe by using the group kiosks in their store. I looked for over an hour and cannot find a single subscriber, group joiner, group kiosk or anything else that would let me "unsubscribe". That's a store I will never be doing business with ever. Screw the spam-cows. @ Solar, "unsolicited" requires that the particular contact not be solicited by the person being contacted. Visiting a store is not soliciting for messages to be sent. You can check this for yourself by looking up the definition of "solicit", and if still in doubt the definition of "visit".
  11. The permissions on the box should be trans if you intend the box to be giftable along with it's contents. Otherwise it's not particularly important. When someone owns an item set to sale, they do not have to pay the item to access it or its contents because they already own it. You can change this value to not for sale or whatever, but so far as I can tell, it makes no real difference to anything.
  12. Not getting the updates is not caused by laziness. How can it be when the auto update setting is on by default? People might get updates because they are too lazy to turn the setting off, (or too lazy to hunt for it now that it's not on the log on screen) but they are not getting updates because they are too lazy to not turn take the effort to turn it off.... You might think it's not hidden, but they did not move it to make it easier to find. I do not see the relevance of your comments about having too many preferences on a tab. They moved it to a tab, not away from one. That setting did not move itself. Someone spent their working hours and LL resources moving it even though the only people effected by this change are inconvenienced. People who want the setting on are not effected and derive no benefit whatsoeve from this unnecessary change. The only people effected are those who want it off and now must find it, and then take extra steps every time they update their viewer. @ Serith: It has gone from impossible to miss on viewer-launch (being on the log on screen) to being in a tab, in a drop down menu. It has gone from being in plain view every time you open your viewer, to only visible if you go into a menu and navigate to the correct tab. If you do not like to use the word "hidden" for something that has been made harder to find, then you are welcome to use the word "tidied", or "relocated", or whatever else you prefer. The thread starter obviously had not found it, but that does not mean you have to use the word "hidden" if you prefer not to. I personally do not know anyone who avoids updates for any reason other than that LL are notorious for rolling out poorly performing, bug ridden viewers. That's why I chose to take the effort to turn the setting off, repeatedly (every time I updated in fact, since it always defaults to auto update on when a new update is installed).

Now, the snag with this is, no matter how well behaved I - or my genuine alt - is in SL, ALL it takes is one of those other 6 alts to be a griefer or copybotter, and bingo!....my IP address is banned by LL and I get the message of Doom, as you have done. LL are not and never were RedZone customers, so no worries there... As to having media on and this resulting in LL identifying alts, LL do not need you to have media on to determine your IP; your IP and MAC are communicated to LL's server's as part of the log-in process.
  14. So in order to mitigate the acts of a minority of wrong doers, the overwhelming majority are punished as though they are cheating naughty children. That's not polite, user-friendly, or service orientated, but rather constitutes treating us all like naughty children who cannot help ourselves from putting our hands in the cookie jar. It's also wholly unnecessary. I'm not a cheat and I do not see why I should get a rap across the knuckles because I failed to guess what category someone working for the Lab would have used, when I listed in good faith. If the categories make any sense to begin with, most people will get most products in them most of the time. This could be used to make an algorthim that flags repeat offenders and those people could then be asked to explain and warned of penalties. If they continue then and cannot give a very convincing explanation, then punitive steps could be taken. There is no need to punish everyone. Only and actually punishing deliberate offenders would probably reduce the actual cheats. At the moment cheats are treated as well as the genuine merchants acting in good faith who make an error, and those acting in good faith who make an error, are treated no better than cheats. This favours cheats who prosper from their cheating, while not being treated any worse than someone making a genuine error, and it sure as heck does not make those who make every attempt to follow every rule feel good when they are treated no better than a common cheat.
  15. Auto update with the setting on the log on page was ok, but suddenly hiding the auto update option in the preferences instead was a sucky and frankly rude thing to do. Since the option is on by default, anyone who was not getting auto-updates made the effort to turn it off, and were not getting updates out of preference rather than laziness. Hiding the option so we got forced updates until we found the setting hidden away in preferences it is not the way forward. After all, once everyone finds it again, what will they do next time? Hide the settings on my neighbour's computer (I expect they'd try this if they thought they could).
  16. LL need to accept that there is a vast difference between the highschool hobby style way of doing things, and the way the users they want to attract expect things to be done. LL need to end this notion that end users will put up with being their beta testers, bug reporters, and will work hard to discover what kind of computer they need, what settings to use, and how to get SL to work. They are chasing the crowd who never would have gotten a computer if Windows had not come along working straight out of the box, but they are offering an early Linux "user as own IT specialist" experience. That will never work.
  17. I think different kinds of users need their own songs. I nominate "Fast Times In Tahoe" for the SL drama-romance addicts; you know, the kind who log in, meets and romances a stranger who lives "3000 miles away", and then breaks up after a few mutual mind games, all within approximately 13 hours (rinse and repeat).
  18. Of course if the item is really in the wrong category then it follows that either a machine or person has some other category it thinks the item would better fit. Many merchants would rather that their product just be put in that category instead of delisted. There appears to be no reason for not offering an option box to tick on the listing page, that would trigger recategorization rather than delisting in these kinds of circumstances. If there is enough certainty that the item belongs elsewhere, to merit delisting, then that's enough certainty to simply move the item automatically if merchants opt for this to happen when they list the item. This would be the common sense, polite, service orientated, user friendly way to set up your system.
  19. + 1 with this issue I did not even want the update but it took a while to find the auto-update setting when they hid it in preferences, and by the time I found it, it was too late....
  20. If you cannot log on due to LL's technical errors, you are actually supposed to be credited for the time LL prevented you from logging on. It's in their documentation somewhere. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find that documentation, copy the pertinent text, and clobber billing support with it, until comprehension dawns. I figure you'll have the whole thing sorted by July 2012*. Alternatively you could just pay them. *Warning: this might of course simply get you access for approximately 24 hours, when you might be cut off due to approximately one year and one month's worth of unpaid fees......if this occurs, rinse and repeat and you should be able to get back on for approximately 24 hours, in August 2013, at which point you will probably again have to rinse and repeat and can expect another 24 hours or so access in September 2014.
