To each their own,i personally would never be without private land where i can go and its mine,so to speak,in the sense i can keep others out. My lover and i relish the privacy and we have for three years now,to us our island is SL

I rent a homestead ,i have my shop 3500ft up and the land itself is private with security orbs that eject anyone who ventures down. I did used to rent land elsewhere for the shop but it was a waste of money, but i did it mainly because we wanted to keep our home private,then we decided to put the shop 3500 ft up and have privacy too down below. It has worked out well

I agree 100%,for any skin to look it's best a face light is needed,but if one has atmosperic shaders checked then those with a facelight on look too bright and the quality of the skin drops to zero because it is over bright I make it point to have big boards in my skin shop showing the difference with atmosphereic shaders checked and unchecked when one wears a facelight.,and instructions for new bees on how to chang that I remember when i was new to secondlife and had a face light on,i looked good to me but this one girl kept saying i looked awful bright,i had'nt a clue why i looked bright to her,now i do. As for mesh,personally i could care less

I find this to be common with new bees,i get a lot in my shop and i have intercepted when i see them making a mistake ,this is the reason i find a radar so important,i can tell the age of an avy as happened the other day, I saw a 0 day old avy buy 2 shapes,i knew right away they prob. did'nt understand the difference between shapes/skin.makeup so i went to the shop and asked her if she knew the difference regarding skins/shapes,she said she had'nt a clue,so i returned her money and helped her buy what she really wanted. I also have a board at the shop entrance explaining the difference between skins/shapes and in our private change room i have many boards set up with info to help new bees I think the big problem with those who don't understans the relationship between skins and shapes is they see the lovely face and think if they buy the skin they will look like that,but they would have to buy the shape also. I include a shape with every skin so there is no room for disappointment, I explain that that a shape is like it says,your body shape,it determines your facial features eg,size of nose ,eyes,lips,shape of face etc and body build A skin covers your shape and comes in many shades of light to dark,and also a skin is the face makeup eg. lip color ,eye makeup,blush,

Thanks for the info,i really do rely on that radar,it is a tool i use constantly,i can help my customers if they make wrong choices and i mainly mean new bees. As i gave in a previous example because it shows the value of the radar. I saw a new bee teleport in,i saw her buy 2 shapes very quickly,given her age and being new i knew she had nt a clue about skins and shapes,so i went to the shop and asked her if she understood about skins/shapes/makeup,she said she did 'nt have a clue,so i gave her back the money she spent on the shapes and made sure she bought what she really wanted, and took her to our private change room where i have assembled a lot of basic info. on boards especially for those new to secondlife For some reason i get a lot of new bees at my store,not sure why,maybe most people shop the marketplace and new bees don't know about it and would sooner explore SL. If i had to give the number one reason i used the Phoenix and now the firestorm ,it is the radar I'll go back to Phoenix for the time being as i need a reliable radar,shame though because i got Firestorm set up the way i like it and was ready to make the switch.

It was never troublesome with the Phoenix radar, i have had the shop up there for almost a year and the phoenix radar showed the correct distance 100% of the time,so it is possible to have the radar show an accurate distance As for being " troublesome" being 3500ft up i have not experience one bit of " troublesome " the whole time it's been up there,the firestorm radar showing an inacurate distance is the very first issue i have ever had. If the Phoenix radar is capable of being accurate then there is something in the firestorm radar that is'nt the same as the Phoenix radar,i have used that radar constantly (Phoenix) i keep it on my screen and i see people teleporting in every day and every time Phoenix shows a correct height reading.

I apologize for my previous rants, just my ignorance showing,i took another look at firestorm and watched that video and i must say it has all i need. The radar is good, much like the one on phoenix,shows age and distance and one can double click on an avy's name and the camera will go there,but i do miss the typing icon in the radar that showed when someone is typing. I like the fact i can undock all the docked windows and move them and i can use the silver blue skin much like Phoenix. All in all i think i will be using it from now on,it will take some time to get used to it but i like it The only thing i find with the radar is it's bit unreliable at times,i was on my work platform about 300ft above my shop which is about 3500 ft above our island,i saw a visitor arrive and the radar said 3000+ ft away. that would be on the island,i went down there and it said the person was 50ft or so away, i flew around but could nt find them and went back up to the platform,and the distance then was correct about 300ft Earlier i was on our island with my partner and i told her to go to the shop so i could see if the distance registered, .i forget what it was but it definately was 'nt distance to the shop Hopefully this will be corrected, maybe there is some setting i don;t know about

Can't see a " near me "option in debug in firestorm,,,,,,does'nt have it I don't see any radar in Firestorm either( Do you mean the people option? )

For me first and formost it's the radar, yes there are other radars.i have mysti tool,but it only shows those close by,Phoenix radar shows anyone anywhere no matter how high up they are,my shop is 3500ft up so i can see when anyone is there. When i am out shopping and my partner and i get separated,all i have to do is use the "teleport to " option The radar is the no 1 reason i use Phoenix,i would feel blind without it now because i rely on it so much, As a shop owner i have been able to realize certain things very fast with the radar.like when a newbee came in my shop, she was just a few days old,i saw here purchase 2 shapes ,this did not make sense to me with her being so new,so i went to the shop and asked her if she realized what shapes are,she said she did nt have a clue and just thought she was buying a skin like in the picture. I use the radar for the age of avatars because for some reason we get about 70% newbees in the store,many i have had to help them unpack items,i also have a change room full of instructions for new bees So at a glance i can tell an avy's age and watch to see if what they are doing,(especially with skins ) and if i feel they are making a mistake i can ask them certain things.so many are so thankful for the help I had an avy come a couple of days ago,i clicked on her profile on the radar and saw she looked like a new bee,she had new bee hair and new bee clothes,her age was a couple of hundred days old,how she looked and her age did 'nt make sense, she bought one of our avys and i went down to give her ,her free one and she wore the package,i asked her if she knew how to unpack and she said " no" she had joined long ago but never been on SL,so i gave her lessons on the basics, For these reasons i find the radar indispensable,,especially to help new bees if i think they are making a mistake in a purchase as in skins and shapes,when one is new to SL skins/shapes/makeup are hard to understand

I'll stay with Phoenix as long as i can,the one thing i like about Phoenix,other than it simple layout is the Radar , i can see when ayone enteres or leaves my region, i can see where they are ,their age and other things it has to offer If firestorm had a radar i would use it, as a builder and creator i love the way i can just manually move the inventory. or build in Phoenix I'll stay with it to the bitter end,i have firestorm and used it a bit but not as keen on it as Phoenix

More land is being dumped because its not needed, With the 2D website to set up a shop and pay no tier,land is not needed, If LL closed the marketplace right now and aside from the huge outcry, land would be snapped up fast ,land sales would sky rocket. Why would anyone pay 295 US for an estate,(i know the mainland is cheaper but its so laggy there i would never set up a shop ),when they can open a shop on the marketplace rent free and only pay the " sales tax " to LL on each sale And if you dont think the marketplace is flooded with merchants with shops ,try searching skins,you will have to wade through 6000 pages and dresses 13,000pages I have a homestead,rent is reasonable,much better than 295US a month,i use it as a home and have my shop 3000 ft up so i have the best of both worlds,a shop and a private island I check my visitors list every day and although visitors are low because of our terrible search,i would say 70% of my visitors are new bees,we get a an awful lots of 0 day olds,i wish LL would give new bees some money when they join,we would do good.,i think we get a lot of new bees because they have just joined a 3D world and want to explore it,probably later they will visit the marketplace but for now they want to do what they joined for,see Secondlife Of course there are many reasons land is in the decline but i think the biggest reason is land is not needed anymore for a shop,evryone is moving their shops onto a 2D website away from the 3D world that SL is

I have nt read all the post and i'm sure somone has probably mentioned this but ,who needs land with the marketplace,who needs a shop with the marketplace. I think there is a huge amount of people that have and are giving up paying tier when they can sell on the marketplace for free. I looked on there yesterday just for fun,searched skins to see how many pages would come up,there was 5909 pages I searched dresses,there were 30,000 pages,so its obvious thats where everyone wants to sell and not need land I am one of those who will keep my shop on SL although the marketplace has killed SL in world shopping. Can't blame LL, its the residents who all flocked there,LL loves it cos just like a government they tax every sale which they can t do inworld For LL secondlife is all about making money, Which of course is their right,they own the thing and can do anything they like with it. But SL is a 3d world with shops and lovely creations everywhere,but people complain how tedious it is to shop inworld ,waiting for things to rez so thats why they shop on the marketplace,maybe that is so,but that is part of the 3d world experience I for one will not sell on the marketplace,the way is see it,its worse than selling in world,i sell skins,dresses etc,my dresses will be somewhere in 30,000 pages,who searches through that many pages,thats just as bad as inworld search,

Probably a dose of SL reallity should be taken into account when opening a business on SL First you have to have something to sell,so you have to create a lot of things to sell and also be prepared to spend a huge amount of time creating stock. Then you need to have a shop somewhere,you can get a full island,or a homestead or you can rent a shop in a mall etc.that will be your biggest expense Now the reality of an SL business,forget search,search is hopeless. Next is classifieds,they do work but to be noticed you have to pay lots of lindens,one paticularshop pays !000US dollars a week to be first place on classifieds,. I paid for one for a few weeks and it did bring in the business,i paid about 60US a week but that can get expensive if you don't at least break even Then there is the marketplace,many prefer to shop there so inworld shopping has greatly suffered. I had a product called searchbot,it is supposed to check search every hour the keywords you specify,all it ever came back with was "parcel not found in search",i got so tired of seeing that i got rid of it. I am told that on July 27 search is changing,all i can hope is i fair better in that one than this one,right now search for me is almost non existant,i sent a ticket to LL about not showing in search and they were'nt interested at all,they make no money from merchants on search,they make a ton of money from merchants in classifieds,so why should they care about search. I suppose i sound negative but this is my reality on SL,i have a huge shop,skins,avatars dresses lots of hair but unless i want to spend a lot of money getting people there with no gurantee they will buy i get very few visitors a day

You are right about some people equating price to quality,but thats a fools game to think like that,i have taken demos at other skin places to compare quality to mine,so many times i shake my head when i put their shape on,some people have a strange perception of the female body,then i put the skin on and shake my head again and wonder how they can ask the price they do for what they are selling. Some skins shops put lovely air brushed pictures showing the skin,looks nice but you never look like that when you buy it What you see on my displays is exactly what you will get,no surprises,I include a shape with all my skins,so if they use the shape with the skin they get exactly what they saw on the display.

All our fashions are very reasonable,we have always had prices on the lower scale Our skins we sell at a third of most high end skin shops,i say high end only referring to the price and not nec. the quality I have always believed skins are way overpriced on sl, we sell ours at a reasonable affordable price,and when someone buys a complete avatrar they can choose another and get it for free,,,,,,,,,on the skin side,buy a set of 8 skins and get a 2ns set free of your choice free. I don't sell on the marketplace,i have some items i put there long ago but in the thousands upon thousands of item on the MP i get lost in it so i don't reallyy care for the MP,,,,all its done is mess up inworld business.

i have had a problem but i really don t think its Phoenix,it happens when i am right in the middle of typing something i just go poof, In an instant i'm gone,but i noticed when i crash like that i can re log right away,i never get that "region is in the process of logging out " message. Becuase this always happens when i'm typing i just attributed it to something being wrong with my keyboard,i have a laptop so i can't just replace it When i crash any other way i have to wait a minute before i re log

The one big difference is lag,every time i go to the mainland the lag is terrible,iwould never buy mainland myself

Sorry i did nt respond back to your post, i have no idea how many pages the search bot searches,all i can say is i bought from one of the posters I got rid of it because i found it too depressing to see the same every day "parcel not found in seach",i can always tell when i drop in search,i will have a small rush he hee two visitors at once then nothing for hours. I sometimes wonder just how important keywords are,i searched "hair" because i have lots in my store ,to see if i came up,which i did 'nt But on the first page of search and this is every day with no change,there is a shop that has 3 ads, that shop is spit up in 11 pieces and those 3 shops on the first page are all the same shop,just chopped up pieces side by side,and all they have for a keyword is hair and nothing else Also the same group that owns that store has another hair store and that store shows twice on the first page when searching hair,so 2 stores take up 5 spots on the first page of search when searching hair,and they are locked there,with just hair as a keyword,i have hair too but it does' nt get me in search, i ll give you my keywords here and let me know what you think,everything i have down is in the store,i am not keyword stuffing adorable skins, shapes, avatars, hair, skin, amacci, A&A hair, jeans, bikini, shoes, boots, stiletto, SLC clothes, male hair, male clothes, top, eyes, tartan, satin, neko boots, neko, dresses, dress, hair, skin, shapes, shorts, skin I have looked at other shops that show well in search and their keywords are 'nt much different than mine,my boost is 0 I tried support but i might as well bang my head against the wall for all they want to help I am on a full sim, those 3 shops on the front page of search are 400sqm each well not 3 shops but same shop split up

You could also give a bad review of this merchant in your picks to warn others, I had an experience a year and a half ago with a bad vendor so i put a bad review in my picks Any time anyone brings up the vendors name in search your review will show also

Wish i knew,i have been trying everything to improve mine,i have search bot and it always says the same,"parcel not found in search" it might find one of my keywords ( 1 of 7 i have for searchbot) but next search i'm out again,i would say i am out of search 90% of the time I get " crawled " ok but does'nt help me I put a couple of tickets in about it but LL is not interested one bit in helping me,they gave me absolutely silly suggestions and when i told them it did nt work they just closed the case I have spim spammer,that does'nt seem to help either at least for me,i have lots of hair in my shop,i have been open since december,if i type hair in search i won't find myself,but i do find a shop thats been open 3 weeks now and its is small 400sqm,.mine is a full region,that shop is locked on the first page,it has one keyword "hair" and search deems that small shop more important to be on the first page of search than me and it does 'nt deem me important enough to be in search at all I don't know what the answer is,i guess LL is more interested in making us pay for a classified ad,and i think they really don't care about in world merchants now they have that marketplace which has and is killing inworld businesses

A great many people cannot afford a full 15000 prim island so the homestead is the perfect alternative,i have had a homestead for 3 years now and the prim allowance although a bit restrictive is workable. During the big homestead debacle a while ago many had to give up their homesteads cos the price was raised,although not as much as LL threatened originally,and many could only afford the original price. So to answer your Question,it is strictly the price of a homestead compared to a full prim island that people buy/rent homesteads. And many turn a homestead into a profitable venture,some rent parts of the land,many open a shop I have a huge shop on mine,it looks more like a mall than a shop

I have been making skins but using full perm lips from other vendors but they put restrictions on them that if i wanted to take my skins into another world ( to sell ),i could not,does anyone know where i can get a basic lip texture,i am assuming there are some or do people just draw their own lip on a template. The type i mean would be a basic bare lip probably not colored
