  1. The problem, Love, is when someone says something that is actually hateful. As for example "humorously" suggesting everyone here or online has a "mental health issue." That's trolling, for sure, but it's also a direct challenge and attempt to undercut the central premise of the OP, which is that we have to stop stigmatizing mental health issues, and not use them as an insult to dismiss viewpoints we don't agree with. That particular post was an almost exact example of what the OP was posting about. And you can't just be silent. Education means challenging that sort of viewpoint.
  2. I'd like to see @Persephone Emerald try again. Getting important and worthwhile threads shut down by trolling is becoming endemic here. I think we have to push back.
  3. What a really wonderful shot! Pretty much everything about it! It was obviously a day for gorgeous portraits. Also really really lovely!
  4. I've seen some early concept drawings for these, and they look promising. Nah. You're right. Given the suburban or quasi-suburban aesthetic and layout that currently dominates Belli, they likely WILL be hideous McMansions, complete with 4 or 6 car garages, and steel gates to keep out the riffraff (like me!)
  5. Not an LL Fangirl, as such, and I'm not going to try to convince people here who are disappointed in this that they shouldn't be. From their perspective, I've no doubt they're right. Certainly, this isn't a thing I'm going to find worthwhile myself. But I DO love your positivity and excitement about this. It has actually, literally, made me smile. Now, that's just MEAN. Some of us are very nice people. And have other . . . talents. I don't think LL "got the math wrong" on this. They've been sitting on it and, I presume, analyzing this long enough that I'm sure they know what they're doing. My sense is that this is designed to be a niche product. If lots of people jump onboard, then I'm sure they'll be pleased, but I think that this is supposed to appeal to a particular kind of user. They may well not want a rush to sign on to this, for various reasons, including platform capacity. I don't think that this is intended as a mainstream product -- and if so, they've succeeded.
  6. Phil, dahling, you know I love you, but . . . Not "may" be a scam, but "will" be a scam. Of course there are people who try to scam creators, and others. Just as there will always be people who are nasty. But I'm not going to live my life on the assumption that the existence of nasty people means I should treat everyone as potentially obnoxious. Similarly, I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt where there is some doubt. Obviously, if the person has done it before, or there is other evidence that it's a con, then yes. And I'll continue to maintain that it's quite possibly in the best interests of a business to interpret generously, rather than harshly. Saving a buck or so by refusing a refund to scammer is false economy if one is also pissing off an actual loyal customer, and quite possibly becoming the subject of complaints via word-of-mouth.
  7. I can't even remember the last time I saw a Linden or a Mole inworld. My theory is that they see me approaching on radar and dive for the nearest hole. 😔 Although a memory of Minerva Linden still haunts my nightmares on occasion.
  8. I've done that! But then, I'm an idiot. I think it also was in the context of vendors set out in a confusing manner. Another thing that has occasionally happened is where a partial refund was (I thought) supposed to be sent (for group membership, or whatever), and it didn't apply to the item I bought. As Claire and Sparkle noted, it certainly is possible to buy something by accident. I have, although I've never requested a refund for it. Two issues with the CasparVend system I've had are 1) the "pay" popup not loading properly after I've specified the gift recipient (the popup will specify the item, but not include an actual pay button), and 2) the system timing out because of lag, RL interruptions, or whatever -- you've only got 45 seconds, I think, to pay. I think that if, for whatever reason, you pay after the 45 seconds, you end up buying it for yourself instead. On a number of occasions, I've restarted the process because something glitched, or lagged, or intervened in the process. I'm not of Phil's view that everyone who messes up is scam artist, but given the nature of the system, the "copy" perms of most items, and the (relatively) small sums that are usually involved, I think it's fair not to offer refunds except in obvious cases of duplicate buying (which, again, can happen: I've done it and I couldn't even tell you how). Or, you can take the "generous" route, and assume that they are not scamming you, but made an innocent mistake. I don't remember this issue ever arising for me when I ran a bookstore, but I think that was before CasparVend, and it hasn't arisen either with the pics I now sell -- but if it did, I'd probably give them the benefit of the doubt and refund. I'd rather be "scammed" out of a dollar or so, than assume someone is "scamming" me. And if it is an innocent mistake -- as I said, they happen, as I can bear witness -- you have earned some goodwill from a once and (hopefully) future customer. So it might actually be good business sense to refund.
  9. I'm with Persephone. That was excellent -- really well researched, packed with the direct citation and quotation from primary sources and contemporary documents, as well as actual case studies. AND entertaining. I learned a lot -- thanks for posting!
  10. And the Texas Republican Party has voted to add a repeal of the 1965 Voting Rights Act to their platform. (Along with a host of other jaw-dropping measures.) So, there's that.
  11. Any sign yet that the southern states will start complying?
  12. lol, well . . . I sent him something in case he wanted to pursue an "explosive" resolution to his problem. So to speak. 😉
  13. Weird look Drake! And the werewolf thing is a bit bizarre too! 😉
  14. Well, I am sure -- at least I hope -- that responsible and caring fathers outnumber the deadbeat ones. YMMV as they say.
  15. And complain to the landlord. Wow, that's ugly. Aren't you clever! (/me makes a note for future reference.)
  16. Now that's pretty entertaining. The weird thing about Hinterland Who's Who is that it was notoriously dull. I mean, killingly dull. I'm surprised, upon reflection, that the CBC wasn't charged with child abuse for showing these to kids -- it must have blunted innumerable young intellects and imaginations. And they continued making and running them for fifty years. Ever wondered why Canada is kind of boring? Now you know.
  17. I'm not generally into conspiracy theories, but, given the complete lack of regulation here, pretty much anything is possible. Although I can think, really, of only a handful of makers who have a large enough share of the clothing market to make that worthwhile. Still . . . I'm not saying it's aliens, but . . . (But then I also believe that JFK was shot by the CIA, but is now living on a tropical island paradise with Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe, who are actually the same person!) I'd be tempted to say that it's simply an issue of too many bodies now available, and the time and effort it takes to rig for them all. But to drop the most popular one doesn't make a great deal of sense to me, unless there's something else at play. I remember when this started happening to Slink Physique. I really hope we don't find ourselves in the situation where there is only one well-supported slim body available -- and that, a vastly overpriced and overly-complex one.
  18. I'm quite sure you know this, but for those who don't -- "Hinterland Who's Who" was a staple of Canadian television for decades. My generation grew up on these, sandwiched between Mr. Dressup and The Friendly Giant. This is a beautiful parody that is also uncannily close to the style and language of the actual episodes.
  19. Really? People are dropping Maitreya? I haven't seen that, but I'll take your word for it. They're nuts if they are; it's still by FAR the most popular body.
  20. I highly recommend phosgene gas. Gets rid of all pests, and has the additional benefit of ridding you of annoying neighbours too. (Not directed at you, Rolig! I am just not a fan of highly toxic contributions to the ecosystem. )
