  1. I cycle through the day settings to see how land will look at various parts of the day. I also set to always be midday if I'm building, so that I don't have to try to squint to see in the dark. Playing with what renders and what doesn't is also fun, and ca nbe used for pictures, or to "remove" a tree on another property that is blocking the view of the object you're trying to edit. Also, to my understanding, estate owners CAN set the environment settings that will show to visitors to their land. I don't know this for sure, so if someone would be kind enough to give me a thousand bucks, plus another 200 every month, I'll be glad to check it out. :womanvery-happy:
  2. No, I do not use hotels. No, I will not click your link, given the phishing scams mentioned in another thread. Sorry, better safe than sorry. Which is a contradiction as I began the sentence with the word "sorry". :womanvery-happy: What college offers degrees in finding out who uses hotels in SL? I'm just curious...
  3. Their real demographic is not the general public, regardless of the interests potential customers have. LL targets folks with a given income bracket, who can afford to plunk down a thousand bucks to own a region, and continue to pay 200 bucks out of their disposable income each month to continue playing with their toy. Sometimes being "the low-price leader" is NOT the road to profit; Catering to rich clientel is.
  4. This assumes they are targeting the general public, as opposed to trying to appeal to the higher-end income brackets that can afford to plunk a thousand bucks down for a server. I think they're doing the latter, not the former.
  5. Well, other than what others have stated... 1. Figure out if you want to own land, or rent. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. 2. Figure out what type of place you want live in. A beach home, or a snow-capped mountain? By the sea, or by a road? Secluded, or near activities? 3. Explore the world map, the SL Marketplace, the forums, and your viewer's various search options to find parcels that meet the above two criteria. 4. Get a feel for the prices involved and decide what fits your budget. 5. Check out the surrounding parcels. Do they look nice? Do the profiles of the current owners raise any red flags? 6. Make a purchase decision. 7. Start sending me your weekly rent money, along with decanters of blood taken from your first-born ch...oops, did I say that outloud? :womanvery-happy:
  6. Make sure that: 1. The land group says teh same group name that you want to use. 2. The land has been deeded over to the group so that the group actually owns it. 3. The group has enough meters donated to it to be able to handle having the land deeded over. If this has all been done, click Help, and ask for Live Online Support or whatever from Linden.
  7. Well, sorry to laugh at it. Hope you put your foot down and went after them for the harassment. Only laughing at the irony of a tiny little prim hangover being combated with a mega prim foaming-at-the-mouth diatribe-on-a-sign. Trust me, when the dust settles, and folks ask you about your experiences in SL, this one's gonna be at the top of the list for a good laugh over a mug o' beer...
  8. "When in doubt, roll and shout." Wait. That's ROLE PLAYING games. For VIDEO games it's: When in doubt -- reboot." If that doesn't work, try a different viewer. Also, if you look at the world map, it should confirm for you how many regions the area takes up.
  9. Never heard of you before this. Great free advertising! :womanvery-happy: Please tell me this is just a viral marketing publicity stunt. OMG the sign :smileyvery-happy:
  10. I can't stop laughing every time I see this sign. I mean, this is a joke, right? Y'all are in on it, pulling our legs, right? This can't possibly be serious...
  11. @Pussycat Catnip Sorry, Pussycat, but Dilbert is right. Someone could have had his group active, such as if he runs a club of some sort and they wanted to have the tag over their head. If they create a new object/put a new object down, it's set to the group. I often have to switch my objects' group status when I realize I still had the tag for a given club over my head. Dilbert's no more at fault then say the creator of an object that somebody elese buys and then plops on a given parcel. Talk to the plopper, or the land owner. P.S. Lolzapalooza at the giant sign! :womanvery-happy: This needs to go in the SL History thread under the heading "MoleHill Mountain: Who says you can't make a mountain out of a molehill? Second Life allows you to do just that, with judicious use of the new megaprim options..."
  12. How does your girlfriend even know it's in your inventory in the first place? You both have screen sharing software, so she sees everything that you do? Something about your story is fishy here. Did you take it out, show it to her, she freaked, and then you said, "Um, I don't know what that is or how to use it, let alone how it got in my inventory" ? On the other hand, there are plenty of freebie places that have huge boxes of miscellaneous stuff, and sometimes one of the various items included happens to be something naughty, stuck in with various vehicles, houses, clothing sets, and furniture. Just press delete if it's not something you want -- don't take it out and show it to your girlfriend!
  13. China Dolls - Wa-O-Wa They're from Thailand, but often try to reach a wider audience by singing in Mandarin Chinese. Their music and dance style is American Hip-Hop, and this song in particular has an American Indian theme. So a real hodge-podge of cultures, something a bunch of space aliens might put together if trying to immitate Earthling Music :womanvery-happy:
  14. lolz Great pic. I like this picture almost as much as I like the dead meeroo on a BBQ grill I bought last week :womanvery-happy: I know: I have a sick sense of humor...
  15. Well spoken. And the advertising idea should be sent to Linden, I'll bet they like it.
  16. >>> Paying quarterly my cost is about 90USD a year. The stipend, at 300L/week comes to >>> (((math deleted for brevity))) >>> It really doesn't make much sense NOT to have a premium account. Yep,. And for those of us with higher stipends (due to being older accounts) and paying less per month (due to being on the annual fee plan), you actually can make money (though not a lot) by not even logging in to SL but rather cashing out your Lindens from time to time. And then Govenor Linden comes by and says, "Hey man, you wanna buy some crack, I mean some land?" :womansurprised:
  17. >>> You all must be higher priority residents than I am; I've yet to get that email. I got mine. You must not be a PREMIUM premium! *giggle*
  18. So. Whith these restrictuons, it's not really an added value after all? I don't get it. I just don't get it. If you are a premium, you can own land. if you own land, you can build on your own land. Now, before someone says "Yeah, but you can't fit a huge Megaprim Robotic Death Sentinel on a tiny 512", why would you make something you can't fit on your land? Even if you're mostly a merchant, wouldn't you want to display your objects? So what's the point of going to a sandbox? As to the best way to avoid these griefer folks interfering with your building activities, wouldn't that be solved by controlling the access to your own private sandbox? What am I missing here? The only reason I can see for going to a sandbox is if you need to build, but don't have a premium account. But being a premium is a requirement for using a premium sandbox. Even if you are on an alt account, go back to your main and grant build access to your alt. Like I said, I just don't get it. Now watch after five years of playing this game, I find out that you can get free buckets of sand delivered yo you in RL for the time you spend in SL sandboxes. Or some such great thing about sandboxes that I'm not currently aware of. Though the idea of holding a secret bring-your-own-dancefloor rave party at one of the premium sandboxes does have it's appeal (but is probably a ToS violation *sigh*) I wonder how laggy the premium sandboxes will be if everybody and their brother decides to go there. Also, I'd love to hear from owners of giant sandboxes, so big that they have land left over to rent to stores, who have some concerns about their rental revenues plummeting as their usually high traffic goes elsewhere. Is this the sandbox-owner equivelent of Linden Homes?
  19. I like the idea of a coupon, it encourages you to go to the Marketplace. Maybe even make it so your coupon only works with a merchant you've never bought from before, so it forces you to discover a new gem that you otherwise not have considered. Just playing devil's advocate here, but maybe the free stuff ISN'T such a good idea. How so? Well, I'm sure folks thought getting a free home was "kewl" when Linden Homes came out...but look what it did to the land market. I'd be interested in hearing how furniture manufacturers feel about now being in competition with Linden ("Why should I pay $L500 for a furniture set? I've got one for free for being a premium member. I think I'll spend that $L500 elswhere, like paying the cover charge for Greasy Louie's Naked Jello Wrestling Pit. They're having Furries fighting Vampires tonight!")
  20. Sorry to hear that. There's nothing wrong with being a newb (pronounced "new-bee"). We were all newbs at one point, and all needed help. If anyone ever tells you that they never ever ever bought a shirt, only to wind up with a giant box on their hand, they are lying. What's not ok is to be a noob (pronounced, well, "noob"). That's a pejorative term for a boor. So this sounds like a newb who met their first noob. :womanwink: And yes, meeting noob "number one thousand" will be just as annoying as meeting "noob number one", but hopefully by then you'll see the entertainment value of lol-ing at these people. No, I don't know of any objects that help you keep track of who is "noob number one" and so on, but I'm sure if you build one it will sell! :womanvery-happy:
  21. lol thanks...I guess it's a bit like real life in that regards. I can hear them now: "But it's NOT a giant statue of Bart Simpson mooning everyone! Look at it! LOOK AT IT! Do you see? It's HOMER!" :womansurprised: I think I might put something in stating that just like folks can stop renting from me at any time, I reserve the right to stop renting to them at any time, and then give a few examples of things that would be cause for removal. Stuff like things that don't fit the theme would be discussed, and maybe some help offered getting it up in a skybox so it's not bigging anyone. Stuff like griefing neighbors, though, would be time to get the White Sox Song out ("Na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye...")
  22. An apartment complex would be really cool...I just don't think it would work, as folks want the entire parcel to be theirs, plus there are the privacy issues. I suppose it could work froma role playing standpoint, but even then I'm not so sure there would be a customer base for it, other than new players. In fact, it would be GREAT for new players, as it would cluster them together, giving them social opportunities that they don't have with Linden Homes (those things are like living in a ghost town). It would be fun to try, if you've got the capital to throw into an estate or even on the Mainland...but something just for fun, as it might not make a lot of money.
  23. Not at home so sorry I don't recall the region...something with an "H", the region west of Lemontal...anyhow the entire region is a beautiful park. The continent is only about three regions wide at that point, so it's nice to have that smack dab in the middle. I'd say build what you want for YOU...and if others come, they come, and if they don't, they don't. On the other hand, if you're wondering if there's a way to make money off of a park, I don't know, unless you put it in the middle of your land and offer rentals on the surrounding area (or vice versa, a place hidden in the woods). Alas, all the things we could do if tier wasn't so expensive...
