  1. IM me in game if you want. Perhaps having an invitation to initiate conversation will be OK, and help you to eventually be able to do so without an invitation. I've had several friends with social anxiety, so perhaps I'll be more understanding than most. Though I do tend to like it when folks hold up their end of the conversation, but you did say you like to talk a lot once you know someone. I also have what used to be a quiet place out in the middle of nowhere that is now surrounded by some folks from Japan who wanted a few regions to relocate from a Japanese game that came to an end. They're very cutesy and friendly -- even changed their bridge that connects one region to the next into a drawbridge so that my boat could get through. I will forewarn you though that while the outside of my parcel in the region is mostly a beach, the interior of the building has a more adult theme and might not be suitable for a lolita-type of character. But we can hang out at the Japanese place, or at my other spots. At the very least, I think it might be nice for you to meet other fans of Japanese stuff. My schedule in SL varies, though.
  2. Actually, if they did have tides, that would be a real cool feature.
  3. Thanks, the HUD was easy to find due to a link on the page Willow posted. I bought it, as well as some other stuff to support the vendor.
  4. Thank you! I am really diggin' the community spirit the new continent has awakened.
  5. Does the new continent of Bellisaria (where the new Linden Homes are) have any Linden Rez Zones, simillar to the ones on the mainland where folks can rez a car, bike, or boat?
  6. Agreed, a person's appearance in game (or the real world, for that matter) doesn't equate to their personality. I'm sorry to hear that you've met folks that far gone on the anti-mesh mindset that they have to put it in their profile. I just don't get it. Pixel snobery is pixel snobery, regardless of whether you're up in arms over someone else's choice to be a furry, a vampire, a Linden freebie avi, a classic avi, or a mesh avi. Because the bottom line is it's THEIR choice to make, not ours. And it's sad that folks would skip over meeting a cool person just because they have {Insert Prejudice Here}. Note that this happens in the real world, too -- I have friends with kids with Downe's Syndrome, another who's a leader in gaining acceptance for those with cranio-facial issues, and some friends in wheelchairs. So it's sad when the same attitude creeps into a game. But again, that's human nature, as exemplified by Seuss's book.
  7. I'm stuck in someone's sand after going to my mountain retreat and shooting myself out of a cannon. I got blasted a sim and a half away before crashing lol
  8. Oh, it is indeed bigotry. It's not enough for people to be that way in the real world, they feel they've got to do it in a pixalated environment as well. Just ask the furries if there's bigotry in Second Life. It's like the Sneetches story, the Star-Bellies are always going to look down their noses at the Non-Stars. And Linden has done a great job of milking this. First it was oh every object must be a sculpty, then it was flex hair, then flex hair was out because you gotta have mesh hair, mesh this, mesh that. It's only a matter of time before mesh is outdated, and everyone, like Sneetches, will run to trade their real-world cash into Linden-bucks, handing it over to have the latest and greatest thing, all so they can sneer at those that don't have it. But unlike Dr. Seuss's version, the slick dude at the end is right: They'll never learn.
  9. I will frequently wear my classic avis when I'm feeling nostalgic. I used to spend a lot of time tweaking them with various accessories to get a unique look. I'll occasionally get compliments on my classic avis, as a lot of new folks have never even seen a non-mesh avi before. It's sad that folks don't talk in public chat anymore. This used to be a social game, not just a game to isolate one's self with a few friends in IM. I miss what SL used to be. I understand that games evolve over time, but this is one way in which the game has devolved. The way that the pixel snobs have taken over, and their superficial justifications for it, is another way SL has devolved. It's sad enough when people are superficial in real life, but to do that in a game? Maybe Second Life needs to be rebranded as Get A life. As to creeper IM's, those can come from any sort of an avi. If I get a creeper IM from some dude who didn't take the time to get to know me in public chat, having a mesh avi isn't going to get me to drop my panties for him. Likewise, if I'm taking to a sweetie, I don't care if he's got an avi circa 2007. Your words are what's gonna get me naked, not your pixels.
  10. I believe it. SL didn't used to be this way, and I despise the pixel snobs who are ruining it for everyone else. But it is fun to troll them like you guys did. Heck, you didn't even say anything. THEY are the N00bz. I have a friend who was proud of the first object she made, a giant pencil. It looked great. Somehow we got to talking about how I'd made clothes in the old days before you needed third-party programs that cost thousands of dollars and require a PhD in Computer Science to figure out, and the next thing you know she's wearing the pencil as her head. It was funny and cute. She was new, so she wanted to go to some place fun. I took her to a dance club. We didn't have fun -- she got instantly booted, banned, and muted. Then they threaterned to do the same to me when I asked why they didn't even bother talking to her. I gave them a piece of my mind *grin*. This used to be a game for everyone. Sadly it has devolved into a way for snobby people to show off how much money they've spent on their mesh avi, or blown a month's worth of groceries on an "exclusive" and 'rare" piece of "land" that at the end of the day is just glowing embers on their screen.
  11. Even before mesh was a thing, there were still pixel snobs. Don't we have enough of that b.s. in real life to not have to deal with it in a game of pretend bodies? WTF? Back in the old days I used to go around in a deliberately ugly avi and have a blast at all the posh jazz bars. Most folks laughed along with me. Gone are the days when SL was fun like that. Now you have idiot clubs where you can't even get in the door without the owner inspecting you to ensure you're avi fits their standards of snob appeal -- luxury dress, mesh mesh mesh, and you'd better be human and preferably a white one.
  12. Sorry to see it go. That looked pretty. Maybe next time allow a wee bit more notice so folks can check it out.
  13. That was amazing! I was even able to make out two of my properties as you flew over them. It's projects like this that make me wish folks didn't pollute the sky view with constant pictures of giant hearts.
  14. Yeah, once the grid is up again, maybe we should check out each others' profiles and see if we click.
  15. Using the Linden viewer. Suddenly, out of nowhere, music will start playing. On my parcel, not on my parcel. Not from clicking anything, and detecting sound sources via beacons isn't turning anything up. And it's a different stream than parcel stream. Sometimes it's a 50's-style rock and roll stream, sometimes it's Glenn Miller's In The Mood, sometimes it's some weird alternative stuff with a voice over of Presdent Kennedy talking about going into outer pace. If I play with the SL volume switches, including putting master volume at the lowest, I can still here this music. There's nothing else running on my system, and and soon as I quit SL, the music stops. Sometimes it will stop abruptly, but eventaully it will suddenly start again. It seems to loop through various songs, as I'm currently hearing for the umpteenth time a bunch of people clapping and responding "whhhhhooooopppp!" to the singer's boogie-woogie rock and roll. What in the world is doing this?!?!?!?!?
  16. I went there, pretty cool space ship. I left, thought, because I couldn'tfigure out how to get to the area where everyone else was.
  17. Well, if folks are ignoring you at all the "super cool people" dance clubs or whatever (you know, places like RollzEyez, WeB2Kewl4U, and ActLikeURStillInHighSchool), don't help them with their traffic numbers. Find better places to go. Since you're new, you might want to try the Welcome category. My favorite is The Shelter, because you know a place geared for new players has gotta be a nice place if folks who've been playing the game for ten years keep coming back. Also make sure your profile is filled out a bit, so folks get some sense of who they are talking to. And be sure to say more than just "hi", "how r u" or "FUD PLZ!!!" Wait, that last one was The Sims Online. Never mind. Finally, thought it's rhather hit or miss, pull up a map and look for green dots. Those are people in game at the moment. Walk on over to their place, and, if you're lucky, they might be friendly. Don't get discouraged though if they freak out that you dared to walk on the sidewalk adjacent to their property. Some folks are like that lol
  18. I'm having the same problem. Shortly after login my entire system crashes as if the computer has been turned off, and I have to restart the computer again. This problem is localized to SL, as it's not happening with any other programs. I've scanned for viruses and spyware via McAfee, MalwarBytes, Super Anti-Spy, and Spybot. It's a clean system. The problem doesn't seem to be from one particular viewer. I've tried v3, v3 BETA, and Firestorm 4.2.2 to no avail. 19. Come experience the beauty of Samia Bay! A protected Linden Waterway runs through the region, adjacent to what could be your new home! Just look at what could be your view: Tired of sitting around on the beach all day, looking at pretty sunsets sinking into the crystal clear waters? Go for a sail! Just rez your boat on the water part of your parcel, and set sail along the Linden Waterway! How much would you pay for such a lifestyle? A lot? WHY? Abandoned Land has made prices plumet. So instead of trying to decide if you should pay through the nose for a nice place, or take some junky abandonded dump, why not have the best of both worlds: A great parcel, at an Abandoned Land price! We have five parcels for sale. 2048 meters for 2048 Lindens. That's just a buck per slice, as it were, just like Abandonded Land. Why pay more? http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Samia/140/58/26
  20. How to buy land in SL 1. Take out your credit card or Paypal account, and become a member. That's required for owning land. You'll also get a weekly stipend of Lindens. 2. Wait until you have a substantial amount of Lindens from your stipend. Allternately, if yhou can't wait, provide a service, sell an item, or if all else fails get out the credit card again and purchase extra Lindens. 3. If all you want is a 512, you should have the money right away, as land prices are dirt cheap these days. 4. Find land via the forums, in-game searches, or looking for "yellow-land" on the map. 5. Buy the land. YES, the land is yours forever, assuming you pay tier to Linden each month, and Linden never goes out of business. NO, you don't have to pay the seller anything else. You are BUYING the land, not RENTING. Think of tier not as rent, but as if it were property tax that you are paying to the government. If you are a homeowner, you don't pay any rent, but you have to pay the taxes to the government. If you are just renting an apartment or a house, your landlord is paying all the taxes, as it's his or her property and you are just a tenant paying him or her rent. If all else fails, give your money to Rabid Cheetah and see if she has a nice home for you :womanlol: Seriously, this might be right up your alley: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Ziczac/76/145/132 Good luck, and welcome to Second Life!
  21. Try to Mainland Parcels For Sale forum, plenty of spots there, including some I am selling.
  22. Check out the Mainland Parcels For Sale forum, as there are usually plenty of folks there selling land. There will be links there, such as this: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Ziczac/76/145/132 Click one of the links and it will tp you to the land in question. If it suits your needs, right click on the land, click on About Land, then click Buy Land. However, before you do, you shoujld abandon your Linden home. If you first buy the new land, you will temporarily own 1024 of land, and will have a higher monthly tier for that month even if you were only at 1024 for a minute or two. Unlike Linden Homes, you won't get a free house. But the land is yours to do with as you wish. Play around with the terrain tools. Depending on the elivation the land is at you might even be able to push it underwater! Most of the time, though, you can make rolling hills, flat land, or slopes. Enjoy!
