  1. Outside: Gotta be a log cabinishy style, which is open to interpretation. Nothing you build can be above 15 meters taller than the ground level or sea level, whichever is higher. Above 2000 meters, i.e.. skybox area, the above does not apply. Inside: Anything you want. Applicable to both: Skyboxes must not be below 2000 meters in altitude. You must adhere to the guidelines for Moderate parcels. No third-party security orbs -- use the Linden Security System in the Linden Home Control Panel if you want added security
  2. Ah. Well, that's going to be an issue. Art just isn't as popular as back in the day, at least the last time I went to every single gallery and museum that popped up in search (about a year and a half ago). Traffic was incredibly low everywhere I went, and I was the only person on each parcel -- even on a place with a very moving and tear-inducing exhibit about lynching. That said, maybe art is popular once again, or will be some day. I hope so.
  3. One of my friends is working on an exhibit where you kick the art around.
  4. It happens every time I get a new system. I can't figure it out. Maybe it's just my perception, and it's longer than six months. Either way, it's annoying to be expected to afford being able to upgrade so much, and to higher-end systems. I've seen some improvement in FPS by disabling a lot of features and wearing older low-complexity avies, but then the graphics look like it's 2010 and my enjoyment level plummets.
  5. Going to places only to find it's just a bunch of avis all sync-dancing to somebody spinning tunes, and no one is talking, let alone talking to you. Places that advertise roleplaying, events, or contests, but when you go to them there's nobody there, and it's just a store. Stores running contest-scams not just to build traffic, but with contests to win the best picture contest of pics where you model their stuff, and then they want to charge you for the stuff you need for the contest. When friends drag me to go shopping in-game at one laggy and poorly organized place after another, instead of joining the 21st century and shopping online via a quick search on the Marketplace. Poetry events that don't put the text in local chat, but rather insist everyone use voice only. Some people have hearing issues. Sex clubs that are anything but sexy. People who don't read profiles. Overly aggressive guys with no communication skills who don't bother to talk in local chat but rather immediately IM me only to say crap like "hey", " hi bb", or "wanna cyber?" Guys who go to escort places and then scream about being so sexy that they've "never had to pay for it, and never will." The ALL CAPPS and exclamation points!!!!!!! from the above guys. Voice chats where no matter what volume level you set it to several people are whispering and several people are shouting. Background noise in voice chats. Yelling at people in RL while your Voice Chat mic is hot. DAMNIT STOP EATING POTATO CHIPS WHILE ON VOICE!!!
  6. The game gets updated too quickly, for no reason but to appease the folks who can afford to buy $2000 systems several times a year. The game is already fantastic enough without the new sparklies. The "enhancements" hamper the rest of us. Such as: Buying a new computer, making sure it meets the specs to run SL before buying it, having it run SL fantastically at first -- then a mere six months later, SL starts to get laggy. By the time you can afford a newer computer, the game is at a crawl. It again works great once you've bought a new computer, installed more memory, or bought a better graphics card. For six months or so. Then it gets all laggy again. Being told to go back to crappy-looking graphics settings and removing all your newer avi stuff to solve the above problem, yet having to pay full price for a computer program who's features no longer work on your system.
  7. Those people need to have a megaprim dropped on their heads. Well, unless they're in Bellesseria. Then ya gotta limit it to a 64x64x64.
  8. Do a search on Art Galleries and Art Museums. My museum is currently closed for the most part, due to relocating to Bellessaria and remodeling there. I did, however, put up the Magritte, which would probably appeal to Avant Garde tastes:
  9. "We're neighbors." That's a very nice statement about Bellessaria -- ALL of Bellessaria, not just a portion of it or some group. I like it. 🙂 It's why Bellessaria works. It's why the Mainland, where that's not usually the sentiment, is dying. I need a "Howdy, neighbor!" flag.
  10. Thanks, Chad. I just learned something new.
  11. Glad you got your dream home! I totally get it about feeling cramped. Sometimes it just doesn't look or feel right. There are plenty of houseboats that have a bit more water around them, or attached to land. It's all personal preferences. If you do tire of it, go ahead and abandon it. Just realize that houseboats are currently the most hard to get. It's all supply and demand. If you do abandon, may e first let folks know on the When was the last time... thread. Maybe include a picture, and a slurl. Speaking of slurls, I'd love to visit your home, but I don't know where it is. You can create a slurl by copying the location in the firestorm address bar and then pasting it in this forum thread.
  12. Right click the floor, select build or create, depending on your viewer. Select the cube, if it's not already highlighted. Left click on the floor. You'll get a wooden cube. Right click it, and select edit, then click on the circle/selector (technically called a radio button) to the left of Stretch. You'll notice some colored notches on the sides of the wooden cube. Left click and hold any notch you like, and move your mouse around a bit. See how the cube gets bigger or smaller? Play around with various notches, to get comfortable using this tool, and to get the cube to a nice flat pancake of a rug. If you mess it up and want to start over again, just right click the cube and select take, then start over. Congratulations: You now have a basic blank canvas for any time you want to make a rug or a sign. You did it! Right click it and select Take Copy. In the future, you can just slap this thing down and play around with stretching it. I'd suggest right clicking it, going to edit, and then in the general tab type "general rug" or something like that, otherwise when you look for it later in your inventory it will just say "object" -- and you might have a gazillion things called object. Next, right click it again, select move, and right click and hold the mouse button on one of the arrow to move the rug around a bit. You can fine tune it by going to the second tab, I think it's called Object (not in SL at the moment, just doing this from memory), and clicking on or click and holding the arrows for the x,y,and z coordinates. The rug will move very slowly, so you can get a precise fit. One thing I'd suggest doing is holding the z axis arrow down, watch the rug disappear under the floor, then click the up arrow for the z access just one click at a time until the rug suddenly reappears. This will place the rug right on the floor. Finally, add the texture. To do so, right click the object and click edit to get in the edit menu if you're not already there, select the texture tab, then click the box that looks like a piece of wood. You'll then have the option to search for your texture. Try different combinations of things, scroll through your photos and textures, if for some reason you can't find the texture -- and if all else fails, upload the texture again but make sure to name it "the darn rug texture!!!!111" or something like that lol. Once you've found the texture, click on it, then OK. Viola, you've made the specific rug you want. Right click/edit it again, go to general, name it "My Star Rug" or something like that. Then click the second tab (Object?) and check off Locked. This will make sure that you can't accidentally remove it. Then right click it and select take copy, so that you'll have a copy in your inventory. Good luck, and happy building! Play around with the build tool, that's the best way to learn.
  13. The Second Life Renaissance: If you build it, they will come.
  14. Hi @KarolinaTalaoc! That's some great info above. Since this is the Linden Home thread, I'd like to let you know some of the advantages of a Linden home. To qualify for a Linden Home, you'll need to go Premium. You'd also need to do that if you buy a parcel (but not if you rent one). With Premium Membership, you'll get a free (well, paid for by your Premium fee) amount of square meters (m2) before you have to worry about tier fees. This allocation is 1024 m2, which you can use any way you choose. The Linden Homes come in two main categories, the Original Four/First Generation Themes (Meadowbrook, Tahoe, Elderglen, and Sahreta Osumai), and the new ones in Bellisseria. You can see the differences and get a ton of information from this Knowledge Base article: Some of the Bellesieria homes have big parcels, 1024 m2, using up your entire land allocation (for more land, you'd have to start paying tier). Some of the Bellesieria homes, and all of the First Generation themes, are only half that amount, 512 m2. Choosing a smaller Linden Home would leave you with an extra 512 to play around with. While you couldn't use the extra 512 m2 to get another Linden Home (as they are one per account -- though you could pay for a second, or even third account, as many folks on this forum have done, to have multiple Linden Homes), you could use it to buy a 512 m2 parcel on the Mainland, and thereby have both a Linden Home experience and a Mainland experience. This might be a nice temporary thing to do, to help you decide which you like better, the Mainland or Linden Homes. Note that the First Generation homes are set to be phased out at some point ( no word yet on when). The graphics and landscaping are nice, but not as stunning as the things Linden is doing with the new Bellisseria continent. That said, if you are looking for privacy above all, that would be the best route to go, as demand for these types of homes is much lower than Bellisseria. On the other hand, if you want to be part of a community, or you're looking for more up-to-date graphics and unique regions to explore, Bellisseria is the way to go. Either way, you won't be locked into your choice. If you don't like your Linden Home, you can abandon it at any time, like any other parcel -- just know that supply and demand might mean you won't have the desired style you want right away. You can check the most recent update of what Bellisseria homes are available here: Good luck, and happy home hunting! 🙂

  19. Wait. Now there's a fury gay black agenda?
  20. Is the flag over 15 meters tall? If so, it's a Covenant Violation. Is the yard sign, placed right up next to the fence/border, over 4 meters tall? If so, it counts as a wall that is a Covenant Violation. Is it out of theme? That would depend on the size of the sign, I suppose. Even if within the normal height limitations, is it gaudy? And it does call to question which political statements are OK, which aren't? Cuz if Linden Labs is going to allow ANYTHING, I've sure got a lot of signs I'd like to put up. Maybe even wear them. I mean, standing two centimeters from the border of this place, on public land, with a giant prim attached to my pelvis, wouldn't be a covenant violation. Not that I'd advocate everyone going to this place to do that. One other way it does violate covenant is that it's out of season -- the election is months away.
