Boy, that sure gave SL the good old boost, eh? Not!

If people come in here for the first time and see that they have to pay for everything right off the bat, they will get turned off. Your thesis is severly flawed. I bought lots of clothes, a skin, hair, a plot of land, a prefab, furniture, and plants on day one. That used to be the thing to do back when LL demanded a credit card number during account signup. People who are willing to spend a little money on their digital entertainment won't be discouraged by commercial content, and aren't those exactly the people that we want to retain? Differently put: Both Armani and the Red Cross distribute clothing. Who do you think makes more revenue? I bought clothing and other items early on too. Regardless, when one arrives in SL housed in pure and utter ugliness, it is nice to find some quick and free fixes. People who natter on about how freebies are killing SL have not a clue what they are talking about. Kill the freebies, and you give another death blow to SL. It is bad enough as it is.
  3. It appears that even when completed registrations improve by almost 28%, concurrency still declines. What does this say? I came into SL in 2007, which was a bumper year for Second Life. I remember what an exciting place SL used to be. It no longer is an exciting place. What made it exciting? It matters little to LL, so why should I even bother to list them here.

  7. I have the same problem - can not log into Marketplace - can not search for items.

LL support is NOT the place to go for anything involving failed delivery of items on the marketplace, unless one wants to wait forever to only be told to contact the merchant.:matte-motes-nerdy: Wrong. When I had multiple failed deliveries several weeks ago, I submitted a ticket and the stuff was delivered in less than 48 hours. Then you were extremely lucky. LL support gives not a darn what happens in the Marketplace. In fact, it cares little for any of its customers. One month follow up is extraordinary service for LL support, even it your estate sim goes down.

Yes it can be a pain in the butt if you ordered things from 10 different sellers but it's the only way it can be resolved. Actually, this is not the correct process. Including Dakota's write up above. The merchant is NOT responsible for failed deliveries, LL is and I have had faster response from LL support than some merchants. As a merchant, if I have not received the funds, why would contacting me be the correct process? Marketplace Linden is the intermediary in the process, LL is responsible for the delivery. Please try to understand the Marketplace process before commenting and giving misleading information. In the past, I have tried what you defined as the correct process. The scenario I gave was exactly what happened. Unless LL's support has improved by 1 million per cent, and actually takes control of what goes on in SL regarding delivery of items from the Marketplace, then what I said still stands. The factors behind failed delivery are many and varied, and usually LL has no control and/or interest in what goes on in the Marketplace.

The mesh program going through in SL just gives creators more control over the shape of meshes and the appearance of objects. With luck and skill, the mesh objects generated will make SL more efficient and interesting for everybody. Then perhaps, when mesh is in full swing, the retention levels and concurrency levels of SL will improve. But why do I feel that this won't happen?
  12. Azah Tabor wrote: thank you for your post Cinn.. I do agree, in some cases, it is all down to the computer side more than the viewer, but, the main point of my post was actually the comfort zone of alot of the residents. My apologeze for making it sound like I was blaming the viewer for the issues with older computers. When I tried the 2.x viewer, my graphics was only a 512 and the ram was 1gig.. so, was a slow machine. lol.. OK, will say it this way.. for all those that are comfortable with the 1.23 viewer and are not wanting to change to the viewer 2.x, do you want to see the new applications that are being placed within the 2.x also being placed into the 1.23 viewer coding.. Azah Since I fall in the category for those to whom you are directing your question, this is my answer: No. Pretty much all of the bells and whistles that have been added by LL and incorporated into Viewer 2, are things that would do little to enhance my SL experience, so why would I want them incorporated into Viewer 1? I do not feel that I am missing out on anything. I simply do not want, in the future, to be forced to use the Viewer 2 graphical user interface which is a simply awful and an inferior interface. I have tried it 3 times already, and gave it up in complete and utter frustration and disgust each and every time. It has nothing to do with an unwillingness to adjust or change on my part, as I have to adapt to new software all the time in my RL job, it has to do with the fact that the Viewer 2 interface is grossly inferior, and LL should be ashamed of itself for even introducing it into SL.

I like my V1 based viewer, I know how to use it, I like it's features, I enjoy my SL experience using it. So tell me please an actual date when I, as many other of we loyal users of V1 based viewers, will be forced to change to V2 based viewers. I don't mean a "sometime in the future" answer, I mean an actual date of WHEN please. I wish we could just continue on our merry way using viewers like Phoenix, Singularity, Impurdence and such, but no, we have to give them up, so I want to know WHEN in no uncertain terms. Thank you. I don't believe any of the feedback you have been getting, in that never will Viewer 1 be blocked. The way LL operates, it will happen some day, However, LL simply doesn't know the time it will happen, so no date can be given. It will happen though. Viewer 1 won't be blocked on purpose. There will come a time when no one will be able to use the Viewer or its TPV counterparts. It is simply the nature of the beast, when an organization like LL allows some of it programmers to rule the roost. It is no big deal, really. It is just how things work and will work, or won't work, so to speak.
  15. The only big deal I see so far about mesh is that its full incorportation into SL will probably force me to find another virtual world. I did not come to SL spend a fortune on computers and/or computer upgrades to be awed by more bells and whistles.

There's plenty of interest. It's sometimes hard to locate all the related threads now. A separate sub-forum would be a convenient place to put the announcement when the time comes. Perhaps LL will come out with a blog announcement that will dispell all the rumours, and actually lay out what is ahead for we SLers. But who am I kidding? This is LL we are talking about. I am simply holding back on any further purchases of anything in SL, be it land, houses, clothing etc., since it might be simply money down the drain when SL is finally completely torqued for me. I haven't written one of my own blog articles about SL for months now, because Viewer 2, and my experiences with it and if it becomes THE only viewer to use, which I believe it will eventually will come to, simply uninspires me. I am fast losing interest in everything to do with SL. Only those relationships I have formed over the years within SL are of any interest to me. Those I will keep through other means of communication - perhaps in another virtual world that will not become a mesh that SL is becoming.:matte-motes-big-grin-wink:

So, please, make offers considering the inclusion of 395 USD (tier + transfer) unless, of course, you can overnight the transfer (extended support users). IM Syndel Daviau, I'll receive it on e-mail and reply asap. I also have a homestead attached to this sim, if you wish to make offer for both. Tier of the homestead is on 2011-07-26. OBS: NO, I don't want to donate them for transfer cost, thank you. I'd rather have LL put them offline. Sorry to see you go Syndel. I remember selling those two sims to you a little over a year ago. I wish you all the best. Yoki

Why a noob friendly viewer must be unfriendly for me? lmao That reminds me, I wonder how the retention levels are these days with SL. With such a noob friendly viewer, the retention levels should be going through the roof.
  20. Wait until LL finally makes a complete and utter mesh of SL, then that good old reliable Viewer 1.23 will no longer be there.

I was offering evidence that it can, depending on your system and your settings. If you want helpful feedback, post your system specs and some of your settings, maybe we can figure out why your system is having so much trouble with it. Should any of that be necessary if V2 was well designed in the first place? Sheesh, it has been out for 18 months and still drives people crazy!
  22. Eric Castanea wrote: I try every single version, and it's the same every time. Half the FPS as several alternatives, including some TPV V2 based versions. If they can do it, why can't you? I don't understand. Yes, but look at all the bells and whistles you get with LL's V2, and, and, and, look at the great big mesh that is coming! I just wonder what all these "improvements" are doing to the retention rates and concurrency? It has got to be having some sort of big impact. Right?
  23. This is a non sequitur, but after over a year of Viewer "improvements," the concurrency levels remain flat. Once LL realizes that bells and whistles doesn't bring them in, or make them stay, maybe LL will clue in what SL is all about.
  24. Wolfbane Baxton wrote: I've been wandering around the web here and there, but I keep coming across all these secondlife look alikes. Then there is Avination, is there any real difference between Avination and Secondlife? Aside from what they call their currency? SL = L$/ AN = C$? Yes there is one big difference. There is hardly anyone on Avination.
  25. This trick may work. Find an eyebrow in your inventory and wear it. That should clear up the problem in seconds... but don't ask me why if it does.
